Best/ Worse/ ? did you learn today #81visit with friends...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy best not take any chances with the weather even though it's not bad right now, at the end of your work day it could be..just not worth taking chances...

I can't believe I'm seeing sunshine and blue sky..going to lunch shortly, will be nice driving and not worrying about ice/snow and blowing..I'm sure we'll all start to see more of that sunshine of February approaches..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Yay, I want to see some sunshine! And warmth! I'd rather have the ice than the tornadoes, but I'd rather have snow than the ice. Anything but a tornado, anything.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Good afternoon all...in the twenties last night.....got a small bit of snow around 6 this morning....is very windy but it is from the south and beginning to warm....is suppose to reach the high thirties or low forties by afternoon.

Betty,I know how you feel regarding the swaps .......with illness, mine and others, and other goings on I am not progressing as quickly as I would like....and it seems I keep getting new projects with deadlines, no matter how hard I try not to! As you can see by the date today, if I am lucky I will get my 7 Item Swap sent to my buddy right on the final shipping day....:( Keep hoping I will get a swap finished and posted early one day....Is that possible???

I do hope Jesse contacts the agencies we gave her.....they specialize in situations such as hers and can be a great help if she will allow it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha know the feeling but the 7 mystery Item swap was just too challenging not to join..mine is done, needed curing time (am I telling too much) someone is sure to be lurking lol and try to gather who I may have..anyway I am so hoping that tomorrow or Thursday at the latest it will be in transit..omg I thought I had missed that deadline, maybe I'm still ok..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Sharan, what a cozy nook!!
All the handmade quilts I had when I first married, I didn't realize the value! I don't have a one, now!
Ice is hanging from the trees here. 32* all day, intermittant rain. Not to bad! I want sunshine!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I think we have a couple of more days Betty.....will get mine finished and have been pushing Laura......may have to see if there is anything I can do to help with hers, she has really had her hands full lately.

Speaking of which, I need to pick her up and run some errands, talk to everyone later.

Snow has melted and we are back to rain so it is safe to be on the road again (well, as safe as it ever is around here).

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Audrey.

Betty, I meant to tell you the quilt across the end of the daybed, near the phone is a "scrap" quilt. It was made by my grandmother around 1920.

Major ice here, and trees are crashing all around. huge limbs all over my yard, where tops of old trees have broken and crashed. Sounds like a warzone.

Not pretty.

More coming, Audrey, so take care.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Laura rescheduled, so I am back for a bit.

Sharran, that is what I remember about our ice storm in the 90's.....Lots of snow, then all the ice....I would step outside at night at the lake....it would be deadly quiet except for breaking trees that did sound just like heavy gunfire.....was a very weird sound......that was a really awful week around here. I was so glad mom was visiting my brother in Alaska, at least I didn't have to worry about her....just had to bring all of her stuff over and put it in my freezer because there was no power at her house for over five days.

Glenview, IL

Hi everyone!!
Yep, Kim should be arriving to Stacey there pretty shortly!!
She was lot of fun to meet.and I am really glad we decided to get together.
Betty, Kim lives very close to Cracker Barrel!! So when she gets home, I will take a drive up Milwaukee and
visit her. That will be neat.

Oh see thats almost what the the ladies bottle cap was!! wow. I have one with a sun in it, for Bahamama party.

Deborah, Your doing Great...Since i dodn't chew gum,(can't 'because of teeth) i have a lot of tootsie pops. Although, I have now even cut down on those. I stoppped with the jolly ranchers last week. So i am glad you are still cuttiing way down.

Liz, LOL, I am telling on you..Betty, no she hasn't stopped.

Well, I have been "looking" for a job. Have a few that I applied or will be applying for...
Aw shux, nothing happening. So i probably do a good search for an hour or two...just got to see what out there, who knows maybe something will appeal to me.

Geesh, yesterday I went to bed pretty early. Was beating myself up. First I almost caught fire in the fire place!! Singed my hair and everything. Then i almost fell down the stairs. tripped over a piece of lugage and then the finally was slammed my hand into the new, higher butcher block...rushing to the other room! Yikes that still hurts. So thought better save myself and go to bed.

Well, I am sorry to hear of Jesse. I sure hope and pray she makes some calls. Hugs Jesse and lots of prayers. Got to make those calls.

Betty, You bet I can and Liz can attest to your driving!! With a big smile, I can honostly say, that you are a good driver...I sure hope I will be going on that trip too. Brought it up to Steve, so far he isn't liking the idea...says it depends on whats goin on. But at least he has the notion that I want to go..I even actually have most of the money too! It's my cigerrett money!

Well, i have to get ready to pick up the kids in a bit...Today besided looking for a job, also laundry, and reading...a nice casual day.

I am really very glad to see you all posting. I have missed some of you and hearing the Stories.

Shar, I hope you are doing good in ice storm. Hope it doesn't last long.
Liz.hahah, you had me laughing about the dogs.

Jeannine, yow you sure have your hands full with all the pups. LOL, good luck with walking them!

See you all in a bit...And Betty, How are you feeling? Much Better I hope, still resting after work.
bye for now.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

If this weren't all around me the ice might be pretty

Thumbnail by Sharran
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Limbs are down all around, both front and back, and still breaking with the weight of the ice.

Thumbnail by Sharran
Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Shar, that's terrible..I do hope you won't lose any of your trees...now that first photo, wouldn't it be lovely to paint..

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

It is prettier without the limbs all across the yard, yes. There is a tree down across the street just across my neighbor's driveway...also several around in yards on the block, so I am fortunate to just have the downed branches.

But they are still falling, so there is no end, I think.

Thumbnail by Sharran
Victoria Harbour, ON

It's amazing isn't it Shar with all that destruction that the little green plants that I see in the photo will survive...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Betty, that would be a beautiful picture to paint-----and look so nice in my living room. LOL Just a teeny hint. LOL

Please be safe all!! That is bad.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Marion, lol, what's the next swap...looking at the arch it game me a thought of a tuscany picutre I painted with similar arch..shucks, I don't think no matter how organized we are that we could ever accomplish even a speck of what we want to do...

Shar, went back and looked at the quilt on the daybed...looks as though it could almost be a tied quilt...are any of your tied? what a great use for the cabinet..didn't you purchase it at a sale last year or was that another one...

well 5 more minutes and I'm off..going to make one more attempt for this doctor visit, if not, going to call girlfriend Rita whose Aunt Rita makes medicine...got to be better than the medical care I'm getting right now..lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I actually think the older we get the more we see we want to do Betty. Of course, being single allows more time to undertake things and thus adds to the list of UFO--unfinished objects.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

No, Betty, they are all hand quilted, don't have any tied.

I like that Marion: UFO!!!
I have a bunch of those.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, the tops are out of all my big trees. We have underground utility lines here, so no danger in that respect. Terribly worrisome, though.

The picture would be a good painting. That might be my next one, not sure I want to remember it though.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You got that right Marion, being alone does afford one extra time to get mega things done (or not)..lol..one can just suit themselves right?

Just incase I don't stay up past 6:30 think I'll post...

Best of today...you guys all cheered me up, barely thought of my not feeling well...and, went in the cupboard in search of the old quilt Aunt Muriel gave me...going to display it somewhere..colors are pale, not just because of age but material itself..not done on cotton, quite interesting, almost like a thick gauze, have to ask her about it...

Worse of today..not getting a Dr.'s appt.
When I left work I went to the Barrie Medical Walk in clinic, walk in is te correct word, omg I would NOT be exaggerating if I said there were at least 30 sick people sitting coughing/hacking and looking like death warmed over..just another me..but, wasn't going to sit another 5 or 6 hours and got knows catch what??? so home I came...

What did I learn today...don't have to win the lottery, passed that beautiful church I so wanted to buy...SOLD now proudly is displayed..a friend of Greg's is the realtor so I'll have to find out what the plans for it is...

Know Cathy was here again today, pathways all shovelled, left me a note saying she put ginger ale in the refrigerator for me to drink ...sure is nice to have thoughtful people in your life...I am wondering though if she brought along some catnip, my goodness Missy is jumping up and down, chasing her tail, annoying Sailor and Riley..of course she's the kitty the girls who paint here called me at work to tell me to come home because my kitty was taking 'convulsions' when all it was is her mamma bought her too many catnip filled toys..all put away for her safety..boy was I drugging her up..lol...

Bath is poured, I've a few projects that when listening about your UFO's that I decided no more procrastinating...one was actually yours Shar..a memory book for Aunt Bett's stories...need the wording for the insert..this one was for a wedding so wording not appropriate...with Paul dropping in the office tomorrow for only a few hours then off to the city for the rest of the week I'll have time to finish about 3 projects I have sitting here that I don't seem to take time on the weekends so think hard as to the wording...

Do hope the storms are moving out of your area..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

On my way home looked at all the damage along our roadsides..hope I can remember my camera so I can take photo's...

Shar..wording has to fit in a square 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 so it can either be one word (like this wedding album) the more words smaller the characters..

We'll coughing like the dickens here so off I go...

Victoria Harbour, ON

ooops forgot the photo

Betty..."My Side of the Mountain"...

Please, doesn't matter that it will be small.
Thank you, my friend.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Sharran, I wish I could take credit for the UFO but unfortunately another on the quilting thread came up with the idea. Isn't a good name though? I, too, loved the picture of your quilts and hope to have a cupboard like that to display some of mine. Looks like my grandmother's old pie safe.

So glad your utilities are underground, at least you might keep power. Our are also so when Ike went through last August we keep our power but the water had the same effect on the tree limbs. One fell and destroyed a covered swing set I had in the front. I still cry to think about that.

Betty, take care and everyone be safe and warm.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL - I make DH do all the dog chores!! Not really. We take turns. He gets up with them mon-fri at 6:15. Lets them out then lays on the sofa with all 3 slugs for almost 30 mins and falls back asleep. He then feeds them and gets ready for work. I get them on Sat morning so DH can sleep in and then he does it again on Sun morning so I can sleep in. We both feed them. But don't feel sorry for him getting most of the dog duty! I have ALL of doctor duties: kids, vets and cars. So it balances out (wink, wink!).

No dog run in the back yard. I couldn't leave a dog outside - just have always had inside dogs. Now kids....that's a different story! LOL

Well, I've got to get the house cleaned up. I'm having a Tastefully Simple party at my house Thursday night and will be deciding then if I want to become a consultant with them. I really love their products and will probably never be able to lose weight if I sell it. If anyone wants anything, just let me know and I can add it to my party and have it shipped directly to you. You can check out the products at www.tastefullysimple.com.

Well, off to clean!! Night all!

Hugs,
Jeannine

PS - Here's my latest wallhanging. This is Hobbes our old Golden Retriever. I had a pattern made from a photo of her.

Hey Betty, so glad to hear your feeling a little better. Please don't over do it by working too hard please?
LK

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Well, took the day off work and burned a sick day that I don't have, that was my last one until April, for icy roads, it still hasn't froze which is fine with me! Had a very lazy day and didn't do anything except clean seeds, embroider, and chat. Oh I cooked a killer dinner too! It's supposed to rain, which it's been pouring off and on for about 4 hours now, then about midnight it's supposed to turn to freezing rain (in 1 1/2 hours), then it's supposed to snow at about 2 or 3 am. Someone must have lit a fire under this storms a**, it is moving very fast, no ice here, just looks like it's going to snow after the rain instead of icing. Dave went to work and the roads are supposed to be the slickest tomorrow morning around 6am, which is when he gets off work. Supposedly roads will be clearing after that, and by 11am completely clear. I'm very worried about him and that drive. My workday has been delayed for 2 hours again, so I don't go in until 10am, I'll have to leave at 9am, but I think it'll be ok then, I hope...

I'm going to bed, I'll chat tomorrow sometime!

Waving hi to everyone!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All; I get cold when I read your posts....many of you are having your usual winters that I am not used to. My empathetic side is winning out...and I shiver to hear what you are going through. I wish you all had pictures of yourselves on your posts... as I am now starting to develop my own (in my mind) for you. :) They are all wonderful! :) Betty - I wish I had paid more attention when Grandma would show off her quilts because I distinctly remember her explaining the patterns to my Mom, however being the selfish kid I was...I did not pay attention and now do not know what they would be called. Grandma and Mom died in the same year...2004. I truly believe that Grandma (who was in a nursing home and non-responsive) "knew" that Mom wouldn't make it through the year....and passed away in March. Mom finally succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer that November at 64.....right after Thanksgiving. This is the same cancer that took Michael Landon, and that Patrick Swayze is now battling. I have 5-6 quilts in the closet and possibly more but don't know any stories behind them or the patterns but love the patches of material from my old clothes which I treasure finding. Betty - I hope you are taking it easy and getting well. Marion - you are in my "zone"...I am a beginner in Baton Rouge....any advice, plant tips you can send me are greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get started but DH says I have to wait till March. You would all love DH...before I "Got Into" this whole planting thing...I used to call him the "little old lady of gardening". He loves plants but has a much cheaper approach :) ) I was the one to buy the tropicals and use them as annuals...perhaps as I "mature" as a gardener....that will slow down. DH didn't seem to want annuals at all but warmed up to my enthusiasm as the season progressed. Do any of you have some quick family recipe's that kids enjoy? I have had to work late a lot lately and would love some 30 minute type recipes that picky teens might actually eat...... Love to you all; Mary (Baton Rouge, LA)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Only have a few seconds before it's off in winter wonderland...yuk..but I'll have all morning in between finishing 2 projects I'm bringing to work with me so I'll catch up then...

OMG Liz, love the bottlecaps, not so sure I'd have the patience to do them but you my friend have done a fantastic job in creating different designs..soooo creative...

With all that complaining DH was doing with regards to making a tin man, he made 2...just goes to show you how proud he is of his workmanship...I'll tell you, what the firemen wouldn't give to have one of those for their draw...must keep the photo and see if I ever could create something similar..tell you what, he just made browny points with 'mom'...thanks for sharing...

Liz, not going to harp, but today is the day to start 'no smoking'....want an update...

Showing on the weather channel the big storm crossing USA and also hitting our area...Toronto is getting it at the moment (boy am I glad we moved our office to Barrie) but they say by mid afternoon we will have it..right now it's -6 and they are hoping it will not drop above -4 or the possibility of freezing rain will be high...

How is it Carol in your area? getting any of these storms...

Thinking of all of you, know you are being affected in one way or the other..do hope you are safe..

talk later

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
HI Liz,
Those tin men a great!..
and your necklaces too..you must have a lot of patience to do such intricate work.

Betty..I am with my Grandaughter..I came early today..snow wasn't too bad here.
Just took my time on the roads at 6 am. not too many people out at that time of day in my area.
Glad you are feeling a bit better.

Jeannine ...Nice wall hanging to remember your old "pal"

Sharon..oh my..what a shame having your trees downed by the ice storm.
Hope your Magnolia survives.

Cheers,
Carol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Dark, dreary rainy day here today. I won't complain as I had a wonderful view of the lake this morning and so angry it wouldn't show up great in a picture. Tried. It was very foggy and I could see the blue heron feeding along the edge. Had a very mystical look about the entire view. Having started the day with such a nice scene on the lake, I won't complain about the rain.

How did everyone survive the weather last night?

Mary, Oh I would love to give you some tips but I am learning all over again. I just moved here 3 years ago from Gainesville, Fl and although it is the same type conditions, I still find I need different plants. Dealing with a lot of shade in this yard also. We will learn together, how is that.

Need to get busy. Have a safe day all.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, November is much too far away, come on girl, you did promise me it would be start of Jan/09...don't make me come with hands on hip to watch your every move...and yes, JUDY IN THE BACK, not a good passenger...hey we'd have to blind fold her or keep her drugged if she comes along to Texas..lol

Carol, you be extra cautious because I think today you are schedule to get more than this area...snowing heavily..got an e-mail from Paul saying that he's not 100% but is coming in for 1/2 day then off to the city for the next 1 1/2...yuk...if he's carrying another germ and I catch it, well, I just won't be a happy camper! He is needed at work though but not at our expense..

The girls are running late, bad roads..we drove in today in my car sooo I'm excited, going to take Suzanne to the mall and pick up the Christmas Quilt for her, one or two for me..lol...treating myself and her so that we get our spirits up..

Marion, what a beautiful sight to start your day, when I lived on the lake we had many herons come visit early in the morning..it was so calming to watch.. I painted a dimentional one last year remember and put it near my pond so I can at least pretend I'm back on the lake..that stained glass one that's sitting under my bed (lol) I'm doing into a water feature so I'll have myself some herons this year..not like you but pretend is fine..who knows maybe they will attrack some real ones though not wanted, my poor fishies if they make this winter would be their meal...

Mary, I was raised by my grandmother so spent a lot of time sewing and doing quilting bees and learned so much BUT if we could only learn to take up one hobby instead of 30 maybe we could accomplish a cupboard full of quilts just like Shar's...(Don't tell anyone, maybe I'll look at the sales at the quilt store from time to time and pick some up, fold them up and who'll tell that behind glass they aren't treasures...could always tea dye some lol) Mary, sorry about your loss, to have them die so close to each other must have been overwhelming..sure do miss my grandma...she was young at heart even though she was 99, go anywhere, do anything..sure wish I'd paid more attention to a lot of things as well...

Stacey how did your visit with Kim go? you both are a pair that could get into so much mischief... just wanted to let you know, have my Mapquest Road Atlas book out here on my desk, come talk about the trip, tell me it's a go....

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!

Hope that Kim made it safely to Staceys. She was so excited to go on this trip.
And Kim, I am glad the snow held out till today! Hope you having a great visit.

Oh Shar, how are you doing today?? My as pretty as the ice pictures are. Yow! I hope the worst is over.

hahaha, LIZ...couldn't help it. OH MY GOSH, the tin men came out so cute!! Now is DH making some for the craft show?
Wow, you have made quite the bit of bottle caps! They are great.

Hi Mary, I think it's wonderful you have the quilts.
Betty, sounds good that you are going shopping..LOL nothing like a little pick me up.

This morning I treated myself to McDonalds breafast!! LOL, Was nice to take an actual ride.
Snowing since last night. but the sun finally made it's way to smile!

Have a good day everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy am so treating myself..you know when I had a DH alll my energy and treats were geared to him, amazing how many times I can now buy ME/ME/ME something (without changing the price tags...so laughing)

Feeling better today, still can't talk without hacking but headache almost gone ..you must be telling from my upbeat attitude..

I've got Shar's project here with me, I'm hoping Paul get's in and leaves shortly thereafter so I can take the entire desk to lay out my project..would love to include it in the other 3 or 4 things I'm mailing out before Friday..

Don't think my SWAP 2009 partner comes to post or view this thread..so I'll tell you all, I have to go somewhere that has gift bags for every holiday in 2009 and for every change of season and a birthday bag so I can finally send it off...it was packed and ready to ship but it was at Christmas time and I just hated the thought that everything was just helter skelter in a box so now I'm going to organize it, bag each..then it will be up to her if she wishes to keep the gifts unopened until that event comes along...you know me, I can't get out of the post office without opening it so she'll have far more patience than I if she does...

Then there is my Mystery Swap which is ready to go ..

Jeannine's puppies (lol)

If you read this and feel somewhat left out, please don't I'm sure your turn is right around the corner IF you've not yet received a 'pressie'...so lots to post..better not spend ALL my allowance in the quilt shop, needs big bucks for postage..lol

Judy, you must have driven the kids to school right? it's nice to enjoy a breakfast out..you know I don't mind McDonald's pancake breakfast, in fact when I travel it's much what I eat early morning to keep me until I can find a Cracker Barrel..have to take out the Cracker Barrel and count how many there are from here to Texas...

Victoria Harbour, ON

I

IS

SO

BORED!!!!!!!
