She's about to.....#41 Brug Addicts Chat

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Samigal, sorry you lost yourt blooms, but now that you have found the cuplprit, you can treat the problem, and hopefully have more soon. They are very pretty blooms.
Anjl, glad to see you posting again. Hope this means you are feeling better with every day. Make sure you have someone help you in the garden, so you don't pull any more muscles. Your brugs should be ok, maybe they are just going through a little dormant stage? Mine have done the same thing, drop all the big leaves, and have a bunch of tiny leaves all up and down the stalk, but the stalk is still nice and green. So I will leave it be, and see what happens. Looks like we are all learning together.

You may have to spray them with something to keep the worms off.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey everyone! Linda Kay are you going outside to look at your car every 30 minutes? LOL, I would! ☺ Pegi, Cody may be right. I tried the Neem oil on all my plants with no success, still had the bugs, but good old liquid Seven got rid of them. Different things work for different people I guess. I have learned also that even if the big leaves fall off, as long as the trunk is healthy new ones will grow back. I lost all my leaves once in the greenhouse but they grew back. Pegi that is a beautiful first bloom!!! Bless your heart, you have a wise crack husband too then? Jerry never misses a chance either!

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday. I have really gotten a new appreciation of God's wonders by sewing seed this year. I never have before, and to see that wet dirt and hard bit of nothing turn into a plant is truly amazing. I am like a little kid with my seedlings. It brought new life into my gardening experience.

We're having a lazy day here, I cooked all day yesterday and don't plan on it today. Jerry will just have to eat Chicken Fried Steak sandwiches if he wants to eat, haha!
Love you all! {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Anjil. Folks leave their brugs in the ground in zone colder than me. They never dig em up or cover them. They loose their leave sand go dormant and in the sprign when it warms up they do a quick trim if the plants need it and let em go. Your a whole zone warmer so yoru should be ok.

Linda.. I will gladly trade my old jalopy for your new car. Don't ya want an od classic that has personality and ago on it instead of your sports car? ;) LOL Glad ya got somethgin ya really wanted and when ya get over being afraid of it, hope ya enjoy it to the max.

Pegi.. Awwwwwww feel bad for ya, but it apretty bloom. I stil tryign to figure out what smart enugh to pull the leave soff mine and make a nest out of them. When I looked the othr day, sur eenough another small pile of leaves. I wonderign of it oen of the lizards in the green house since it so cold.

Karen. Don't ya just love watchign that miracle. Think that part of why I such a seed hog. I love watchign them sprout. Watchign them seeds and some of them harder than rocks and how they will, when conditions are met will open up and put out that tiny new root to explore the surounding and bring ya some green on such cold dreary days.

it always amazes me of watchign the videos i slow motion of seed germination that been speeded up. So cool to watch. Good luck with the babies. ya little seed sprouter you. LOL : )

Hey all..... hope your day was as good as mine!!

DD came over with DGS to celebrate her birthday.... Spent lots of time playing with my beautiful angels, then stopped at my local store to buy some lottery scratchers (my new habit since I gotta sit on my bottom most of the time!) won $1,000 !! Yippeee!! This will make up for the $1600 we just spent on a new range for my kitchen remodel! I am soooo excited! LOL! I hardly ever win on those dumb things ^_^ LOL!

{{hugs}} to all!

Congrats Anjil on your win. You never here of folks winning on them things unless it the big time winners. : )

Thans for the coffee Linda am out and too cold and too chicken to brave the elements this morning.

Wil all ya Texas and Ca. folks that all nice and warm fuzzy send some of it this way and fast. Give 113f and high humidity anyday. This 11F is torture for a sun loving gal.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Hope there's coffee left.. I'm not an early riser since I'm not working... I felt guilty at first, but hey, I've gotten up with the chickens for 20 years to find my place in the rat race line, so I'm being gentle with myself.. lol Thx for the java, LK.. CONGRATS AnjL! Woohoo! I've won $3 and free tickets on those scratch tickets... but $1,000??! NICE! Have fun spending... I buy them for stocking stuffers at Christmas. Debra and I have decided the 2 hour drive between us is NOT that long and we will visit often. LK, Debra has millions of seeds, all kinds and colors.. she made cute little shower caddy planters with germinating seeds for Peg, Don and Pattie and me... Debra and Peg are lovely sweet fun ladies and I encourage everyone to meet fellow DG'ers when possible. We did have a great time, Deb was so sweet to invite me... I really needed an adventure (diversion,lol).. OX to Deb and Peg. I told Deb she was my personal "Calgon".. (took me away!) I was only gone for a day and a half, but it felt like a weeks vacation! Course between Peg, Debra and Don, I came home with lots of interesting plants, seeds and cuttings.. everything is watered, buried or waiting till it's time to plant. I've decided to construct a hoop house of sorts for starting some annual (+etc) plants this spring.. (no, Peg, I STILL haven't talked to the people about the BIG metal tube GH - kick me, would ya? dynamite?) The time is NOW. I need to check on basement plants and do the grocery thing today. Cody, take care, hon, only have 1 back. (seed pack envelope is headed your way) I've used eucalyptus oil rubbed on sore muscles/joints, it works for a while, then I rub on some more. (good for my sinus's, too). I use it in my "recipe" formula. Ya'll have a wonderful day!

Coushatta, LA

Good Morning everyone. Thanks Karen it's nice to know i have good friends like you and Bonnie that really means alot to me.Also thanks for our little chat.I hope you all have a great day.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Afternoon gals, trying to get myself going, but I know I have to check on my brug. Rain is forcast, but not depending on it so better give my baby a big drink. Debra, the brug that bloomed for me is one I got last July from Joyce in Lodi. The ones I rooted are still holding their own. I think it will be a long time before I can realize some blooms from them. Some didn't make it, but as long as I got some I will be happy, at least for a while.

Good job on the $1,000 winner AnjL. I'd be doing a happy dance too. That would come in handy for the new flooring in the kitchen. I don't buy any tickets so how can I win. LOL

Watching Price is Right this AM and young gal won a Dell laptop plus $10,000 in the game she played. I think I've got the money spent and I have a Dell laptop on my wish list.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

LOL pegi, me too...
hope you are feeling better, Cody..
Anjil I am very happy for you just think it is a great way to start your new year off!
Linda Kay, I have alot is all I can say... too many to put on my HAVE list.. I will send you a package to put in your area.. Debra

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Pegi, I bet you have blooms on those babies before the end of the summer.. there I said it.. SUMMER ;) Debra, I heard 60 degrees here tomorrow.. it'll feel almost like summer.. I'll be outside getting dirty! Ella, hope you are above freezing down there tomorrow. Cody, the seed pak left today.. have fun.. I sure am having fun starting seeds.. Deb, the "basket o seedlings" are doing fine, I watered and wrapped up in a clear bread bag.. will transplant that MG tomorrow.. and start a few more seeds.. no sign of sprouts on the easter egg plant or the lily seeds.. I wait....and plant other seeds..

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Debra,i'm a lot better now.How about you?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, that would be nice. I have some seeds that I have ready to plant this year, but will alway welcome more. I will get the postage back to you.
Linda Kay

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Bonnie,i'm looking forward to get them.Out of all of the brug seeds i am trying to germinate only one has sprout.:-(

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Ya got one, Cody! ;) There'll be more..I have 9 brug seeds in some stage or technique of trying to germinate.. nothing yet... I wait. There's a lot of waiting... I think it CAN take weeks.. maybe months..Guess I'll try a few more. Maybe some marigolds or something I know will emerge quickly.. lol I planted 3 seeds of my Antique Lace Cross.. I'm going to gather some sand while I'm outside tomorrow and make a special mix.. and bring my mini greenhouse upstairs... move over hibiscus.. I'm starting the seed incubator...

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Ladybugs! {{{{HUGS}}}} I've been busy today building a website for a friend, so although I was glued to the computer I didn't have time to stop by.

Cody Bonnie always sends magic seeds, I swear! She sent me some hyacinth bean seeds once that sprouted and grew over 1 inch tall overnight! LOL! Everything else in the flat took over a week, I was amazed. Loved talking to you and hope the baby is feeling better tonight ☺ You are a good friend, and we're so glad to have you here!

Well Anjl, what can I say girl??? GOODGOOBELDYGOO! $1,000 smackaroos, woo hoo! My hubby used to occasionally win $500 or so, but no telling how much he spent. He always bought the $5.00 and $10.00 ones too, said they were the only ones you can win on, but I finally broke him of that ☺

Bonnieboo, did you get to play in the dirt today? I so tired of the weather...I wish Spring had already sprung....Well, I'm tired out and need to hit the sack. Love you all!

Coushatta, LA

Well at first i had my seeds on the hot water heater thinking that the heat would help.Well i only ended up with one sprouting. Now they are under a light i think the hot water heater done better alease one sprouted.

Good night Karen,love ya

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Goodmorning all. Already had coffee and breakfast. Getting ready to go outside and play with the plants. It promises to be a gorgeous day.

I planted six brug seeds and they all sprouted in eleven days. I had a seventh one that unfortunately the tip broke off of and ruined it. :( I just put them on top of the soil and barely dusted them with soil. Another bruggist said they didn't need heat to germinate, they need light. I just put those babies in the guestroom under the florescent lights for 12hrs a day and bingo! they germinated. They were from a 2007 harvest. They also get the recipe.

My Egg Tree seeds are fast germinators too. But the fastest has to be the morning glory. They literally sprout in under 48 hrs with just light, no heat. The Desert Rose is another fast germinator for me. I have other plants I just sowed on Sat. They haven't germinated yet. They may take a few weeks. Brug seeds, so I'm told, can take months to germinate. So don't throw them out.

I love checking those babies every morning and evening in anticipation of seeing something popping up through the soil.

I have some more sowing to do so I have some seedlings for the spring RU. I'm excited about the RU. And it's so close to home. More DGers, more plants, more food, more laughs, more good memories.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I was snoozing in this a.m., LK.. you know, I'm a "lady of leisure" these days.. lol Thx for the coffee... I've got a big ol pot of cream of wheat, crispy fried bacon and poppy seed muffins.. dig in. First seed to show it's little leaves for me is hardy red hibiscus... "Old Timey".. a bonus pack from our brave, banned from DG, Wolfie (we are allowed to mention his name?). Wanted to tell ya'll to, I got a message from sibhskylvr, Mike that he's suffered a loss of one of his beloved Huskies, but he's trying to get back into the swing of things. If you see this Mike, heart-felt condolences to you. We all know what it's like to lose a beloved animal family member. Okay, Ladies, I'm off this puter and into seeds, plants and dirt! Karen, you lil worker bee, what a dear. Hope yer bout done on your friends website... we like hearing about your seedlings.. and I don't have "magic seeds"... I've read, poppy seeds are magic seeds ;) I don't have a poppy on the property.. lol But, I'm glad you had such quick germination. (can't remember now what drug they get from poppies).. I do take Mexican Yam Root as a natural hormone replacement. Honey & cinnamon (read about honey and cinnamon in something Pegi had written THX, PEGI!) for a whole list of aches and ailments. I also take fruit pectin for arthritis.. okay, enough... I'm rambling. Seize the day my friends!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Thx Jeanne! Nice to see you! Thanks for confirming on the brug seed germination time... so, MORE patience IS necessary... (ARG!) lol Oh, good... the easter egg plant... my seeds may have been old... still hoping.. yep, I need to plant something that comes up quick... it'll occupy my "need to see new green" while I'm w-a-i-t-i-n-g. Where is your round-up, Jeanne? I think TX has a couple DG RU's. The Midwest group is planning theirs, we're deciding on a date. You will have a blast.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Okay, I'm up....sigh....hated to crawl out of the bed this morning but it is gonna be *74 here today and I can't miss that! Bonnie, poppies produce morphine (heroin)...That's why the Dorothy and crew passed out and fell asleep in the field of poppies when they first got to the Emerald City, LOL! Ummmm...cream of wheat with butter and sugar and crispy bacon. Thanks for breakfast!

I miss Wolfie....he was such a dear really. Mike, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, I myself lost a beloved little Boston a few months ago and I am still grieved. May God ease your heart my friend.

Jeanne! How are you dear? I'll bet we could have a competition on who checks their seeds more, LOL! I am almost OCD about it. Sometimes stare at the flats and talk to the dirt. And hurrah for you on the Brug seed germination! Mine have been in dirt, under lights and on heat for weeks and nary a peep. You and I will both have lots of nice seedlings for the RU, I can't wait! Are you bringing your daughter and Maddie again? I hope so!

Where's our Cody this morning? Her little boy hasn't been feeling well this week with a cold, bless his heart. I remember those "sick baby" days like it was yesterday. Hope he is feeling better Cody.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Bonnie it is May 16th starting at 9am till...done. Are you gonna come stay with me? ☺

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

OOOOH...Breakfast at "B's" sounds delish!!! Hi ALL!!! I've turned into a bit of a lurker (bad girl!) but had to comment when it came to the food-UMMMMM! Where do you find fruit pectin? I've been using Osteo Bi-Flex for my arthritis but, every now and then, still have a bit of trouble :(
Sorry about your job situation B but it sounds like you're happier right now---it would be wonderful to get a job at a nursery!

Mike---I am so sorry to hear that you've 'lost' one of your beloved babies. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers...

LK---when the weather gets a bit nicer I will be sending you a "thank-you" pkg for the PP cacti that you sent me last year. I've got one piece that has the beginnings of bloom buds (in the basement)---YIPPEE!!!

...how many more days til Spring...anyone???????

Jan - who, someday, WILL retire and move 'south' --- closer to "B" and nicer weather :)

(Jan) So Milw, WI(Zone 5b)

darkmoon/Karen: I grew several NOID brugs from seed last year - this year/summer they should bloom for me :) I planted the seeds and had some baby brugs germinate after a couple of weeks. I gave up, after a month+, and just put the potted, non-germing seeds aside and several of them germinated thru neglect! Soooo---keep up the hope :)

Jan

Hey JanLynn, Glad to see you posting! I have not seen you in a long time. I will be waiting for the package for sure!
Karen, how is your new little puppy doing on the runner? Do you still have him?
Bonnie, tell us more about the natural items. Like the Mexican Yam Root? Never heard of that one. I have heard of black cohosh.
