wow Cody! Those look great! Do you have them in a greenhouse? Lookin good!

Coushatta, LA

Yea,Karen they are in my greenhouse.Thank you. That is one thing about brugs they are hard to deal with in the winter.I did have more then that and i lost them as cuttings.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Bonnie, I think the trick to germinating brugs is light not heat. And as you say, patience. I've just been truly blessed with quick germination. If you would like some fresher egg tree seeds(Nov 08) I'll send you some. I am going to germinate some more for the RU. It's in Jacksonville which is 20 miles NE of me.

Karen, I talk to ALL my plants everyday. Each night I put them to bed and tell them I'll see them in the a.m. Then in the a.m. I tell them to get up and greet the day and grow. I check on them several times to see if there is any new development. Truly sad isn't it? We might could tie in a competition. I don't know if Alicia and Maddie will be at the RU yet. It's early for them to plan. Not me, I am there in spirit already.

I have all but five brug cuttings outside now. I needed the space for the seedlings. They have gotten so big. They like it better outside I do believe. Tonight will be their first night outside the workshop ever. It's only going to be 55° for a low. I just pray that nothing gets them. They'll have to go back in the workshop tomorrow evening.

I also took all my GH plants out today to enjoy a stretch and some fresh air. They too will go back in tomorrow.

Cody, the cuttings look good. Take care of them. I'm hoping to have a few for the RU. Don't know which ones yet though. I have several spoken for already. I know I will have at least one seedling.

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Jeanne,i will take care of them.

My oh my, it was.. 65 today!! So ya know where I've been all day.. just got cleaned up and ready for some rest.. no new seeds planted, but lots of outside time! I noticed green out there... !!! My variegated coral bells and a variegated iris.. both in pots waiting for a permanent spot or a bigger pot this spring.. And love the pics Cody! They are doing great, look at the color! Thanks for letting us see.. Hmm... Janlynn..?... Janlynn... Oh, now I remember! ;) Never did get back with you girl! Happy New Year.. So very nice to see you here.. are you ready for the spring thaw up there?? Come around more often.. tomorrow's breakfast is maple/brown sugar oatmeal and wholewheat toast.. don't press me on how early.. Thanks Jan.. Jeanne, that's funny, I'm wanting to get a dozen or so going, so I can share at the spring RU here, too! Funny.. They are different and I think people would like them and find them interesting to grow. How long do the EE trees/plants usually take to sprout? I would love to try some fresh, but maybe we should wait a few more days.. and, I'll keep the brug seeds in bright light and be patient.. you all know how it is, right? I mean I only check on them 1X a day.. lol Jeanne, it's okay.. you just check all you want.. and when the brugs start arguing, that's when I stop talking to mine.. :) LK, I'll find a link about the Wild Mexican Yam Root.. I read it in a chiropractic magazine.. to me, it's a lot more "user friendly" alternative to prescription hormones. Seems I sent that link to someone.. brb

evening all... what a day.. whew.. glad to be home.. came home to a nice surprise from someone a box full of cuttings and I havn't a clue as to what they are so will have to dmail that person to see what they are,, challenges! if I can get them to root I will be in heaven cuz they are red! My Iochromas are about to... took a cobbler tray ( after Joe and I ate the blackberry cobbler) filled it with a paper egg carton cutin half wide wise, and filled it with soil and planted my giant ruffly marigolds.. can't wait to see them pop up.. my salvias are popped up, the mGS are going nutz, Maya is really bushing out.. Bonnie, got the package yesterday, thanks so much! One of the girls at work brought some home made shepard pie for me to eat so I have to get that recipe.. it was delicious.. LindaKay will send you a package this next week with where to plant and why LOL.. Cestrums are budding again and Gardenias are still budding.. hope to post pics soon.. Love you all.. Debra

Great on the pkg, Debra, I was just thinking about you, just moments ago. Wanted you to tell Joe I was disappointed I didn't get to meet Debrashusband when I was down there... Lady, you are a rooting fairy, those cuttings will do fine for you, what fun.. LK, Wild Mexican Yam Root.. found to also help with migraines and blood sugar.. I take a capsule a day, I took another one at night for a week when I first got them. Health food store $12 for 60 or 90. Lots of info on the web.. Jan, I'm sorry... I buy the liquid fruit pectin (Certo brand or I've bought Ball on sale) for making jellies, snip the corner of the pouch and stir in a couple-3 tsp in cranberry juice. I did it morning and nite for about a week, then and now just in the morning.. (it will be a year this spring) it takes about 3 or 4 weeks to notice. I also take the triple flex.. I lost some weight, too.. the most relief I've noticed over-all is since I haven't been "tied" to the chair at work for 8 or nine hours a day, 5 days a week... so now, I know I have to do something where I can be more active than an office job.. Oh, don't get me wrong, I take breaks to sit down here or there nowadays, but not like it's day in-day out thing when I was working. I'm not saying pectin or yam root cure anything, they work for me, more natural, healthier (and cheaper) than prescription meds with side affects worse than the ailment. Ladies, and Lurkers.. ;) Such a lovely day, the sun and breeze against my face,... the dirt and sand under my fingernails..... ahh, I'll sleep sound tonight. Sweet dreams!

Here's the article I read that got me researching.. it's Discorea Villosa-Wild Mexican Yam Root - good for more than "power surges"... okay hot flashes, least I got something hot, bsides peppers ;).

Morning everybody!

Whew. It a mini heat wave here. Actually wakign up to 30F this mornign instead of single digets. keep that warm air blowing this way Texas folks. head I gona get to 60 today well, by pm anyways.

Cody.. great pics of your brugs. : ) I hopign when I go out will find some of my still alive. They made it trough the last roudn of singel digets outside fine, but this cold snap came to close on top of that one and been longer so am scared to go out and look. Just hope I don't find mush. If I do wil probably have a good cry.

I stil lhaven't figure dout what makign a nest with my brug leaves. After I took all them ones out, and went and watered th ebrugs before the ice storm, darn critter whatver it is had gotten four more leaves and had them all piled up to make a bed. It driving me crazy, I wanna see what doing this so bad and then again am afraid to for fear it something nasty.

Got so much to do today sicne can finalyl get outside. Can't wait til noon gets here and it a bit warmer.

What's a egg tree ya all are growing. ?

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

My egg tree seeds germinated in less than a week. They germinated in the end of Nov. and are now about 7 in high but growing faster now.

I don't know how to hyperlink star but in the plant files the easter egg tree is listed. Mine were called golden egg trees because the egg (fruit) turns from white to a deep gold. I think they are both one in the same.

Tomorrow is going to be a rainy colder day so it will be a good day to sow more for the RU.

Mu mgs are going nuts too. They are blooming like crazy. The Grandpa Ott I sowed last Sat germinated Mon. I have been impressed with mgs. This is my first experience with them.. I like them.

Good luck on the job interview on Monday AnjL. California is going broke and I've seen some of the results. So many services are being cut and us seniors seem to be getting hit the hardest. Or, maybe I just feel like they are picking on us "oldies but goodies".

Had such a hard time getting on the Internet this evening, but so glad I finally made it. Got some much needed rain, haven't check on my brug so hope my last big bud didn't fall off. Got a hair cut and perm so that put me in a better mood on this dreary day.

Have a nice weekend all.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Hey everyone! Been missin all of you! Will and I have been busy here travelling around and checkin out the fun things to do here. Was really cold here last week with nights in the 20's so all the plants came in. Hugs to you all!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

welcome back Louise! I'm certain your travelling was much more fun than my hospital visits! lol! glad you've been able to see some of the sites there!

Went to visit my son yesterday and he told me he has been lifting weights..... took his shirt off and did a body builder pose and asked me to take a pix.... he is so proud of his new physique! LOLOL! he is doing much much better and hopefully will be coming home soon. we actually carried on quite a conversation yesterday and he had none of the previous confusion....nor did he ask me to repeat myself, not once! so definitely on the road to recovery....as long as he keeps taking his medication (crossing fingers here!)

also had a nice visit with my grandson and daughter. grandson is such a delight to be around, learning more and more cute lil antics every day! lol!

hope you all have a wonderful day!

I'm so glad to hear your son is doing so well. Had my daughter and her BF from KC here this weekend.. my little friend, JaVae, she's 2, came by to visit today so it's been a lovely weekend. Lavender?... Lavender... OH, hehe, Hi Louise, I miss you on the thread! I've been thinking of you often, hoping you and Will are getting settled in.. and your plants.. :) 20 degrees in FL?? That's just not right, Louise..It's been very cold, in the single digits at night here, except last Monday, day temp was almost 65 degrees! Hope you didn't have to lug too many.. see anything really cool or note worthy on your excursion? Jeanne, 1 egg tree seed has emerged.. Hope I'm making sense, it's late. Tomorrow is a brand new day!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Morning everyone!!!

I was put in the hospital friday evening because i had the bug and running a 103.3 fever.I got out yesterday.I'm a little better today.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Glad to hear you are better RoseGirl. I have been very lucky that I haven't been sick with anything for a long time, and I want it to stay that way. Praying you get well very soon.

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Pegi.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Aw, Cody, sorry you are so sick. I wanted tot check the thread earlier, but my DD was on the computer... I'm glad you are home, try to rest as much as you can. I think not being out in public everyday, has helped me, so far. I do use the anti bacterial wipes on the grocery cart, hope that helps not contracting something that way.. Hope you feel better, Cody. High fever can be life-threatening. Poor girl, I'm making chicken noodle soup for you..I got your seed envelope back... I put another stamp on it and it is back on its way down to you. We're having snow this evening.. nothing heavy but it's really cold out there. Debra, hope you're okay, I think I remember seeing ice down your way earlier today on the weather radar. I'm getting a few seeds germinating and that is sure helping me combat the winter blues.. (no bruggies popped up yet, but I'm being patient).. have my books and catalogs out and a pot of tea to feel cozy. AnjL, how did it go with the interview today?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

My brug blossom is getting longer and longer, just hope I don't loose it. Went to thrift store today, we now are calling it the knic-knac store, and I heard a lot of dishes being broken so of course I had to check it out. Young gal was taking dishes off the shelves and throwing them into a barrel. I asked her what she was doing and she said they weren't any good. Sure looked good to me and would make some lovely pieces for mosaic work. I just don't understand some things people do. Also went dumpster diving and the carpet store had thrown out so many carpet samples. Van is full of them now and I have to figure out what I'm going to do with them. I had a busy day and was glad to get home.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Gosh, Pegi, they broke that ceramic for mosaicing? lol Did you ask if you could have it? I would have.. :) I made a mosaic bowling ball a few years ago.. I felt kind of strange breaking good plates like that. But I sure like my bowling ball. I'm rootin' ;) for your brug bloom... I know it seems like it's taking forever... kinda like me with the brug seeds.. Patience is a virtue, indeed. Nice haul at the carpet "store". I'd use some to set my plant stands on on my vinyl floor.. so there's no little indentations on the vinyl when the plants go outside, or on the floor in the basement where my walkway is through the plants..

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

AuntB I'm sure the girls weren't going to use the broken plates for mosaics. I wish I could have stuck around to see if they dumped the plates in the dumpster. How can plates, cutps and saucers be no good unless they are chipped and none of these were. I just don't understand what goes through their heads at time. I had two blue mixing bowls in my hand and asked if she was marking them down if she could mark these down and she said no. I decided I really didn't need any more bowls so put them back. Happy about the carpet though. Some had binding around them, I even thought of using some to make a scratching post for cats. Even the plastic boards the carpet is attached to could be used. I'm suppose to be getting rid of things not gathering up more. ^_^

My brug bloom is so strange looking. If I'm lucky I'm going to take a picture of it tomorrow. I'm always worried about it being too heavy and falling off the plant.

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Bonnie,i feel alot better today snice i got some rest.I think i have two more seeds sprouting that will be three so far.Bonnie a friend told me this but i stuck my soil in the micowave to kill everything that was in it.I put just enough water in it to wet it and put it in their for 7 to 10 mins. Then put your seeds in it and put your lid on top.I used those cheat plastic micowave bowls with lids.

Hello everyone. I am back home, and so glad to be here. I brought my dad back from Michigan, and we got stuuck in the Dallas airport. Our flights got re-scheduled 3 different times. I was trying to fly into San Antonio, but they had bad fog, and no flights were going. So finally at 2:00 we got out of there. We got home by 6:30 last night, and so tired.
Rosegirl, so sorry to hjear you were in the hospital, but glad to hear your doing better. Please take care.
Glad to hear the brugs are still growing. My cuttings are doing very well, and waiting for new homes. I am going to have to pot them pretty soon. But not this week, We have freezing rain for the next 2 nights, so I need to protect them.
Take care.

Teehee, I went shopping yesterday... got some new dirt! Woohoo! (doesn't take diamonds or designer clothes to make me smile) lol Those rooted brug babies will be getting new homes soon. And a shop light for seed starting! I was given a Wallybucks gift card at Christmas...spent it all on ME. I found some last years tulip and daffodil bulbs for 50 cents a pkg, I'm going to force them for blooms inside (to help off set cabin fever symptoms I feel starting to set in).. got some Envy Zinnia seed, the bright green bloom ones. Cody, so glad you are feeling better everyday. That is a brilliant idea about nuking growing mediums for sterilization! THX! You should be getting the seed envelope this week..LK, welcome home, airports aren't fun when you're stuck in them, there's no place like home (click-click). Now what is this about a birthday for Miss Karen? I thought Karen's b-day was in June... I'm probably confused..

Coushatta, LA

Thank you Bonnie, you are very welcome.

Karen i hope you got some sleep last night.Hope you didn't stay up all night. You have done a good job.

LOL well I got some weird seeds from Africa yesterday! sheesh what am I thinking?? Cody, you hang in there and keep going strong.. Your Brugs are gonna be awsome! I read about the plate smashing up there , Pegi< and I love that it bothered you and that you got those carpets.. Wish I had been with ya to get some too! I wouold have them under all my big planters for sure! ( but afraid they would get ruined) well I have a movie to watch, cya later!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So what kind of seeds did you get from Africa? How did you get them?
If you got the carpet samples for free, why not make a nice path to the garden with them? LOL
Good night all

Oops, posted about my brug on the wrong thread. One flower inside another, that's a double, right? I look at it from a distance so I don't knock off the blooms somehow. Should be ready to take a picture of soon. It seems I'm the only one around here that is getting excited about it. Such losers!!!!

Debra it won't be so bad if some of the carpet gets ruined because I have so much. My biggest problem right now is where to put it until I get around to using it. Hubby said if I didn't get it out of the van he was going to toss it all in the front yard, well had a slightly heated talk about it and of course he didn't toss it in the yard. That would be extra work for him and he stays away from as much work as possible. LOL
