Pegi, sounds like a double to me, can't wait for the pic! I'm excited for you.. I think it's very refreshing to get excited about something so beautiful, and we helped it's beauty to be possible! I doubt you will have the dropping problem once spring is officially here. Oh, what color is it? Maya has a new bloom for me, I'll try to get a pic of it... and I have some dried seed pods pulled off her, I'll open them and see if there is anything worth saving.. If any of you HBA's would like to try some seeds, I'd be happy to send for postage.. BUT- there is a chance you would get some all white seedlings.. (cause Maya is variegated) the white seedlings will die, but you could get something interesting... she was open pollinated by moths. I had pink, white, yellow and orange brugs blooming at the same time, maybe a double pink, too.
Found some interesting variegated tomato plant seeds... anybody grow them before? Mite war is officially on, they've decided to attack my biggest plumeria...(that makes me very angry) wonder about setting off a bug bomb down there??? Said that as kind of a joke, but now I'm wondering what the ingredients in the bomb are... anybody ever try it? Doubt I will, but it's worth checking the package.
Debra, what kind of seeds did you get from Africa?? Daisies? (haha) Sounds very interesting. I once traded some red blooming cypress vine seeds for iochroma seed from a man in Poland. I couldn't get the iochroma to germinate but he also sent me some baby water iris and I divided them last year. It's fun to get things from other countries, so Debra what did you get from Africa?? How cool!
No worries bout forgetting my birthday, I've decided I won't have a birthday anymore, the number is getting too high! (Lovely Birthday table pic, LK) I've forgotten my nephew's b-day and my mom's anniversary this month so the year is off to a normal start on that subject.. (bout the only thing normal about it this year)..
Cody, glad you are feeling better and eating more normally.. no fun being sick... I've learned our dear Karen (the one from Texas;) isn't feeling well the last couple of days... Karen feel better! We miss you..... I got the great marble caper marbles and gems out, big red bowling ball w/sparkles all cleaned off and ready for marble and glass gem gluing... I'm still calling it my hottey ball, oops misspelled that one word;). (like I need another project, but I can have as many projects going as I want) gotta have something to busy myself while I do all this waiting that gardening entails ;) I was going to design different kinds of flowers on it, but now I'm leaning toward something more abstract/wild & crazy.. something that really grabs your attention in the garden. Everyone (you lurkers, too) enjoy your day!
She's about to.....#41 Brug Addicts Chat
Thanks Bonnie,no it's no fun what so ever.
Karen i hope you feel better soon.
Ah! Breath-taking, Pegi!! Pink, it's Pink! I love pink, too. Nice form and gorgeous soft color! Came up from the "greenhouse" for some liquid refreshment... glad I checked in! I moved a few brugs around, I was knocking off leaves just passing by to get to the hibiscus in back.. (sigh)...waiting for May....... Just lovely, Pegi! Thx for posting!
I love the pink too. That is a beaut of a blossom. I know how exciting it is. I was on brug blossom watch over Christmas with my first brug, a cherub. When they started opening it was almost as exciting as watching my grandbaby being born....I said almost not as.
Bonnie, I would love to have a Maya seed. The Maya cutting you sent didn't make it. I was heart broken. I have six seedlings now of a Rubilene x Peanut . I like growing stuff from seed. BTW how is the egg tree germination going. I think you said one finally germinated?
Sorry to hear about the sick ladies. It is that time of year. I got a URI from my grandbaby Maddie. Killer sore throat and mucous. YUK. I just pray it doesn't get any worse for her or me. Everyone stay inside and warm. Except you Ca and FL folk. ^_^
Good to see that beautiful exquiste double pink bloom! Karen feel better soon, girl! jeanne my rubilenexpeanuts have not germinated yet.. Bonnie... I use the bug bomb in the can u set off and run from.. it seems to be fine down here.. Luvs to you all.. Debra
Debra, I planted mine on 12/04 and they germinated 12/15. All but one. The one took another week to germinate. I barely put any soil on top of them and kept them under lights 12 hrs a day. They don't need heat to germinate. I've been told they do better without heat. They absolutely need light.
jeanne I have the three seedlings from the first batch of seeds i got from brenda.. the others are still incubating i guess..
Bonnie i have three weird MGS from africa and two other viney things I have no clue what they will do LOL
I've just got the one seedling, Jeanne, no others brave enough to show, I guess.. Maybe I should feel lucky I got one.. lol If ya have some extra "good" seed (couldn't have been me..;) I'd love to try again. I'll see what I have in those dried Maya pods and keep some good seeds for you. Debra your African seeds sound like a lot of fun.. and some viney things..? Great, I love vines, too.. hope we get to see their blooms this summer. That's good for me Deb if you've bug-bombed, I'll try it on a nice day so I can open the garage door to air it out.. someone said 60 on Saturday... (we'll go to the beach ;) Here's Maya, dark bloom opened Tues, middle one Wed and the light one, today..
Bucket of roots... mostly from the tree size cutting of Pink Beauty and the smaller one is a Peach Versi.. (the 2 culprits that started the whole mite thing down there) They have been in the bucket since Debra came to visit at the end of Oct/first of Nov.. I have just added a bit more water to the bucket every couple of weeks - no airstone.. no peroxide.. there are even some leaves growing from the tips, despite the mites..
Jeanne, I wanted to tell you, I lost the cutting I kept from Maya, too.. well, it looks bad, but I'm still in denial.., (I'll pitch it in spring after I've looked for roots with a magnifying glass;) I might try some air-layering on her when it's closer to spring..and she's got some new shoots popped up from the roots.. can't wait to see her back to normal.. she was repotted last spring and didn't really bloom like she had in the past.. I think she was just pouting but I want her to give a 1000 bloom flush again.
Hope that all made sense... I'm going nite-nite.
Bonnie,i got them today thank you so much. Thanks a million
Lost my last post so have to start over again. AuntB your blooms are so pretty and so many more starting. I guess we have to take some disappointments along the way along with our great surprises. My plumeria aren't getting their usual attention so better take better care of them too.
Thx, Pegi..That's right.. we have many more surprises than disappointments so it's all good. A learning experience.. I think my plumies are doing okay.. some are just now losing a leaf or 2.. cept the big one :( found those mites..I'd hoped it would bloom down there..too chilly I guess it's been staying at 60-70 maybe a little cooler when it's 0 out at night.. but I'm watching it and removed the darn webs w/mites with a cotton swab dipped in alchol before I neemed it.. (I'm spose to be doing some seed research) - hope everyone is having a great Friday..
Hi everyone, came home to three new brugs waiting for me today! Heloise, Kaitlyn, and Dola! YAY! cuttings of more hibiscus now rooting I took those last week, cut some more star jasmine since they were readdy to cut, got 8 count them 8 cuttings started tonight from my Cestrum aurantiacum ( orange jessime), got 6 good cuttings from the avacado planted, and 8 more cuttings from the Pink geraniums. After a day like today, that felt good! all three of my IOCHROMA purple queens are in full flush with purple trumpets now, and the Bignonia Tangerine is about to bloom! My bulbs are looking so good will have a great display soon! Bonnie those bulbs are awsome, that you gave me.. wait until you see them bloom!
Morning everyone.
Debra, what a wonderful job you are doing with your cuttings. Good job!
Congrats on all the blooms.
I have no blooms or buds here, but hope to soon, when I get them all planted back outside. The ones I have purposely left in pots in the weather are doing fine. We have had sevceral days of 29 degrees, and so far they are all good. They are showing no signs of frost bite.
LK
Hey girls, how's it going? I am feeling alot better now....I have missed ya'll! Cody thanks alot for checking on me hon ☺ I have indeed been very busy.
I've still been busy with my seeds and seedlings....Hubby says I need to raise a cash crop now to pay for my gardening habit, LOL! Only one more month here until the last frost, March 1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone say hip hip hooray??? Love you all and hope you are having the most wonderful day ever! Your friend, Karen ☺
Another great web site to put in my favorites so I can look at everything BocaBob has to offer when I have extra time to browse.
Hip Hip Hooray!! I know all of you are looking forward to last frost and spring time planting. Haven't had any time for anything else since my brug bloomed. I just go out and admired it from time to time. There is another one starting to appear and in a couple days I hope I have another beauty to look at. How obsessed can one person get over a plant? Discovered I had a small bottle of Neem, now how did I forget I bought that. Cleaning out my "stuff" from time to time I discover real treasures. Now, back to cleaning out more stuff and putting it where it belongs.
Hi everyone...I have been missing for sometime and I am not even going to try to catch up.
See where a lot of you have been sick, and hope you are all mending and getting well.
Warm but extremely windy today.
No brugs in bloom darn it. I have been lax on my watering but getting ready to go out now.
Wanted to say Hi to everyone and will try to stay up.
We lost phone service so yesterday and just got it back. I have had some catching up to do. Glad most folks seem to be feeling better.
Bonnie, you do want me to send you some egg tree seeds? If so, I will put them out in Monday's mail. Maya does sound like a finicky gal. All my cuttings are doing great. I noticed there are three that have buds including the cherub again.
I've been sticking the pots outside and in the sun to see who likes the sun and who doesn't. So far, peach versi, noid yellow, mem, and day dreams like the sun. The others tend to wilt. So I will keep moving them around so I can find the perfect place for them. Then the ones I give to family will know where best to put them too.
It is a gorgeous day today. I just potted Grandpa Ott mg. One of the Texas Star hibiscus seeds germinated. The others are still cooking I guess. I'm waiting on MG tree, Origami Red columbine to germinate. The red petunias germinated too. Those seeds are the tiniest and the seedlings are so tiny you almost need a magnifying glass.
Here is grandbaby Maddie and me today at her first birthday party. She's growing up so fast.
Aw....lookit Miss Maddie! What a baby doll she is Jeanne! Tell me your secret for getting a Star Of Texas hibs to germinate????? I've had some planted and on a heat mat for probably 4-5 weeks and not a peep? I am about to give up.
I planted four Texas Star and only one has germinated. I just have them on a table under the florescent lights and in a window. I'm kind of surprised that it did germinate considering that it's cool by the window and we haven't had that much sun until yesterday. It took 13 days to germinate. They are in little pots inside a baggie that is partially closed. I don't know what the secret is. Everything I'm doing, I'm doing by the seat of my pants. I'm just blessed that everything seems to be responding so far. Maybe it has to do with the depth the seed is placed in the pot. If I don't get germination on the rest in a few weeks I'll try another batch. Hang in there Karen. They may surprise you yet.
Yea, Maddie is my baby doll. She's such a trip.
You are very welcome Karen.Glad you are feeling a lot better.
Hey Karen, how you feeling?
Happy Birthday to the precious little Maddie. Give her hugs from us!
LK
I will do that tomorrow LK.
Jeanne, you have a precious grandbaby their.
Thanks, I think so too. Although........when she doesn't get her way......ummmm stand back. She has a temper like her momma. Most of the time though she is a happy little camper. She goes out with me into the yard and helps with the plants. I hope to make her into a great gardener.
Hello everyone, long time no see! Sorry. I have loved reading and feeling your excitement over the Brug. blooms and so many plants that I've never heard of. So sorry some of you have been sick, and I do pray that you all will continue to feel better. Bonnie, so sorry about your job loss, but just remember..God never closes a door without opening another. I'm praying you will find happiness no matter what you do, or where you go. My sunroom now looks like a mini jungle because my precious babies have gotten big. If they didn't sometimes drop some of their leaves, I think they would have grown me out of the room. I have had my share of bugs and finally found something to get rid of them. It is Bayer Advanced Rose and Flower Insect Killer. Jeanne, Maddie is so pretty and did anyone ever tell you that she favors you? She does to me. Debra I have never heard of most of your plants but I'm looking forward to seeing their blooms.
Stay happy, well and safe everyone...and love to all.
Faye
Faye, thanks for the heads up on the insect killer. I have been pretty fortunate so far. My brugs are pest free. Only the mandevillia vine and egg trre have had pests. So far Safer has kept them under control, but only after several applications.
No one has ever said Maddie looks like me. She looks a lot like her mother who does resemble me somewhat. She has almost navy blue eyes like her daddy. I have plain old hazel, which means no color at all most of the time.
I've just been over on the glad/lily co-op thread. I have been trying to color co-ordinate lilies for a rock wall. I just don't know when to quit. But I love flowers!
Jeanne,i know what you mean.My son has a temper.I wish i could say that he helps me with my plants.Instead he wants to dig them up.HE HE HE.
OMG! Maddie is adorable! I also got to spend some of the day with my lil grandson (he turned a yr old on 12/18) he is just starting to walk and it is just so cute to see him take three steps and then 'boom'! down he goes and he just cracks up laughing when he falls!
I should learn from him! LOL! when life makes you go boom, just bust out laughing! teehee!
spent most of the day pulling weeds (again! grrr!) thought that I would have the cement poured in this area and not have to pull weeds this year....but I guess life went 'boom' and once again I am pulling weeds to get ready for a patio! lol!
here is my before pix from this morning .....
I am putting in a patio in front of the 'gym' that we have converted into a studio for my son when he comes home from the hospital. This was supposed to be done last fall :(
Had a work party of girlfriends that were going to come over and help this weekend, but they had to cancel at the last minute today. so with the help of my dear wonderful stepson! (he did most of the work! lol!) this is how far we got today.
We are using the cement that we broke up in the front yard to make the patio....will plant blue star creeper between the stones once they are all laid in place....
got ALOT done today, just moving that pile of the cement pieces was a chore!
Anjl, David is a cutie. Rosy cheeks. Does he have brown eyes? My hubby's name is David. I'm sure you know it means "beloved". Maddie has been walking for six weeks now, but still falls down when she gets going too fast. When she gets tired she looks like a drunken old sailor reeling and flailing hands trying to get balance. She is the comic relief in our house.
Getting a space ready to redo is hard work. Either pulling weeds, shoveling, relocating objects. Ugh. I have been working beds over with gypsum to break down the clay so I can plant. Clay is hard to work with. I have to extend a patio on the side of the house. Leveling is the hardest for me. Good luck with the project. Don't over do and just keep the finished project in your mind for motivation. Even doing an hours work a day will get you there eventually.
Have a good day all. We are getting ready for a Super Bowl party.
Good Morning Ladies! ((Faye! Joyce!)) GREAT to hear from you, did you feel me thinking bout you? I'm enjoying some home time and feel fortunate to have and take time to explore some options.. Joyce, I'm watching for Budah Belly Plant sprouts.... nothing yet.. Annmarie!! your new area is coming along beautifully! What a project! I'm anxious to see the finished pics, but I bet you are, too! Karen, I'll sure check out BocaBob's website.. thanks for sharing the info, how interesting!
Those baby pics!!! How undescribe-abley precious! I have to say more beautiful than any brug bloom.. thanks for sharing your babies.. Jeanne, you are a beautiful woman, look at that pretty face and happy smile! And Hot Pink Party hats... I love it! ;) Thanks, I will try again, please send the egg tree seeds, I had one more sprout (moved them to a dimmer spot)..... at the same time the sprouted one went caput... I sprinkled some things with cinnamon to combat damp mold/fungus, maybe I've kept them too wet.. I'll get some Maya seeds out to you this week.. thank you! Is the Bayer Insect stuff granular or liquid?
I've been busy all weekend.. I potted up over half by baby brugs and have been cleaning and organizing for a cool seed starting surface in the basement... I'll move my mini Big Lots greenhouse upstairs for germinating seeds that need heat.. I've gotten 2 hibiscus manihot to germinate.. (just noticed the 2nd one emerging this a.m.-right beside the seedling) and 1 red hardy hibiscus (not rose of sharon) I've not given up on them yet.. planted 1/14.. Maya's blooms are all three coloured ;) up and made it all bruggy-smelling down there last night, it's like the 3 are hanging on.. encouraging the other buds to hurry up so they can be a several bloom flush.. I need to snap a pic, I moved the babies' closer to the light and the blooms are hanging just above them ... ahhhh it's February!! then March, then April... THEN May! Only 3 months to go before I can move the jungle outside. Seize the day my friends..(you lurkers, too ;)
Does anyone know what thread it was, that I posted a picture of myself from the San Antonio zoo visit? It was last June that I went there with my son and grandkids, and I can't find that picture.
Thanks for any help.
LK
AuntB the Bayer bug killer I use is liquid. It has really saved my Brugs.

Debra!
Yoooo oHoooooo........'tis I, the old lady from NJ. I bet you all thought I died but I didn't.
I have no idea where the time has gone. I am so sorry to have ignored this list for so long, but with the holidays and this brutal cold weather, I have tried to keep busy keeping the greenhouse humidity up and praying I do not loose the plants I have in it. The temperature has fluctuated so much this year I either have it too hot or too cold. I can not seem to get a happy medium. I hope you are all well. My brug (only have one left. the old one I thought I killed) is doing fine. I can not believe it had new leave on it but darn if the meeley bug did not find it. It is in the house, and several of my older plants inside had them. I am clean again now, but for how long I have no idea. I need to read my Dmail and see who I owe a reply. I saw a robin this morning and our temperature today is 60. It was in the 20s yesterday and windy. We are expecting snow tonight. Crazy weather. Hugs to you all.
