She's About To.............#38 - Brug Addicts Chat

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Jeanne when they go to the town Christmas carnival in Steel Magnolias they are buying Nacogtoches Meat Pies from the meat pie stand ^_^

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm over on e-bay trying to find a winter flag for the house. Keep talking or eating or bubbling, I'll be right back.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

You mean Nacogdoches in Texas or Natchitoches as in La? Probably Natchitoches since that's where the pies are from huh?

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Nite all, I'm puckered out....I doubt I will see you again until the kids go home. Tomorrow will be a cooking blitz...From dawn until midnight. Happy Thanksgiving to those I love. Again, welcome Cody. {{{{Hugs}}}}}

Yes Jeanne, Natchitoches as in La. That was where they filmed, that's where the famous pies come from, and that's what they were buying and eating at the fair... ☺ Try the recipe sometime, it's authentic, from an old 90 year old woman that lives there!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, you mentioned making toffee, but you did not post the recipe. You know if you mention food here, you have to give us the recipe please???
Good night everyone.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Karen, you spelled it so close to Nacogdoches I was just wondering.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Linda: Here ya go.. Moms' famous English Toffee:

You will need a double boiler, but I just use a pan in a pan of water..a candy thermometer...a long handled wooden spoon..
cookie sheet ( greased) I use butter.. a pan for toasting almonds...
1/2 lb butter
1 1/2 c sugar
1 tblspoon white corn syrup
3 tblspoons water
1/2 cup chopped almonds
3 large hershey milk chocklate bars or 1/2 bag choc chips

cook all but nuts in double boiler until 300 degrees, add nuts
pour onto greased cookie sheet

break choc candy bars and add to top of mixture, smooth around with spoon until melted evenly..
sprinkle with toasted almonds.. ( I crush mine with a rolling pin after toasting in oven)

stick pan in freezer until cooled
break in pan by twisting the pan and it will break and fall out..
store in baking paper in tight covered container to keep from hardening.

MINE NEVER LASTS LONG ENOUGH TO GET HARD.. LOL

Good Night Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cody

Morning all. My kitchen's a wreck, I'm a wreck and guess who decided he wants deviled eggs and spinach squares. Grrrr. Back to the grocery store I go. It will take forever to get through the checkout now.

I will talk to ya'll later. Happy Thanksgiving!! Peg

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Good morning all. Been up since 6am. Got all my plants out and sheets folded. Have two casseroles done. Now I have to vacumn (yuck). I am also going to do catalog ordering for Christmas. Time has gotten away from me and I want gifts to get where they're going on time.

I hope everyone is feeling better today. It's beautiful here. It's 62 and warmer in the sun. We are supposed to go up to 75. I can open the windows and let in fresh air.

I'm still thinking about toffee, but have added deviled eggs. I may have to make a batch. Won't catch me near a grocery store today no matter what. I will just make do if I need something. I hate the grocery store even on a ggod day.

Good Day Everyone! Busy in the kitchen!

(Cathy), MO

Just popping in to say hi and Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I also had to share! I stripped my brugs of most of their leaves and took them indoors weeks ago. But...one of them decided it wasn't done and set a bud. It opened last weekend! The whole house smelled so good!!! Yummy.

My kids are coming tomorrow so I am taking off early this afternoon to go clean and cook. Sending hugs to all

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

This is blooming today. My last peace rose of this year. My favorite rose.

I'm here, and they did another ct scan on my heart just to be sure it's NOT what he thought it was. A part of my heart not getting enough blood. He said it might be my big ----s making it look like that! We had a big laugh! Didn't wait for the results!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Beautiful rose taters, I have a love & peace rose too, but DH decided to cut roses back now, sure hope they all come back. He gets the clippers in his hand and goes a little wacko.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

your roses will come back. They are very tough plants. I have always cut mine back anytime accept the dead of winter . I try not to go out in the dead of winter. Mine have always come back. Especially the zone your in. You could prune and shape year round.. I did when I lived in Florida.

I was admitted to the hospital on fri night, and left against docs orders today cause I couldnt fathom hospital turkey! :( I am out for turkey day, but will probably be back on friday. blood pressure was 87/39 when I left...so doc is really mad at me for leaving. :( will go back friday to see if I have to stay, or if he will let me stay home instead. white blood count is REALLY high.... and they dont know why yet.

just wanted to drop in and say hi to you all.... DH and I are gonna pack atlas gloves tomorrow (he will do most of the work, I get to supervise by laying on the couch! lol!) and then I will finish up my ornaments. DH will mail the ornaments priority mail on Friday....s o I hope I'm not holding anyone up ther :( also gonna mail out the gloves for the co-op for me on fri. then I ge tto go to sis in laws house and lay on the couch and eat real turkey and real pie :o) and dressing etc, best part is I dont have to do any of the work! teehee!

If I get to come back home again on friday, I'll make sure I post on here. I didnt have time to read up on all the posts here.... it would take me a week to catch up! lol!

I hope you all have a great gobble gooble day and gobble down lots.!!

Linda Kay, I hope you are healing well after your surgery, sending prayers your way and to any of my other bruggie friends who need them :o)

The roses are beautiful! I only have two and I'm not a very good rose Mom, I prune them anytime I have time and they just keep blooming.

I've got the coffee this morning, ladies, and home-made cinnamon/caramel rolls, since I was up finishing the rolls for Thanksgiving! Help yourself.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! And special thoughts go to Louise and Todd moving this weekend. (HUGS) Peg
