2ND VICTORIAN SANTA WORKSHOP..TODAY IS THE DAY!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Anjl, sweetie, you are in my prayers. You can battle this cancer once again. (((Hug)))

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Anjl, I sure hate it that you got such awful news. I got some yesterday, too. My cardiologist's nurse called me and said my tests were a little abnormal. She wants me to see him next week, don't wait till my appt on the 9th. He'll discuss with me ways to deal with it. Scarey! I don't want open heart surgery! Or by pass surgery! But I guess it beats the alternative!
I'll be saying a few Words for you!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Anjl, and Audrey, Great big (((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))) for you both, as well as prayers! Please take care, and do as the doc suggest, but please keep us posted here. We worry about each and everyone of our "Sister" friends we have here on DG.
God Bless
Linda Kay

santas are beautiful!

anjl prayers to you.

audrey, prayers for you to

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

You all inspired me and I went back to the drawing board last night. The velvet santa that I hated got taken apart. I cut 2-3 inches off the width of the sleeves and body. This kept the bulk down. Gathered the fur cuff of the sleeve just around the hand. Put on a belt. Now I am working on some kind of hat. The stocking cap thing didn't work but I may use a tam or other puffie hat on top of his head. I am going to stuff tissue paper up under the robe of both of mine to give them some shape. Then it is diamon dust, snow and all the other finishing touches.
Not like you gals, two will be enough for me, but glad I went back to this last one and didn't let it get the best of me.
I'll post picture after I finish it tonight.

See that Janice, knew you could do it....looking forward to seeing your santa...how are the cards coming along..

and lots of love. (((((((Audrey)))))))

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well dropping to say maybe I will be able to start my Santa now the "bug" seems to have flown.

1Anjil sending prayers and a huge hug for you at this time. Well always for that fact. We are here for you.

Beautiful Santas everyone. I can hardly wait now to get mine going.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Good morning Marion, so glad to see you posting, and glad to hear you feeling better! Post your pictures when you can.
LK

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I certainly will--first I have to finish my daughter's birthday cake. Then I am going to start my Santa. Can hardly wait.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Betty you would be so proud of me. I finally finished both of my Santas. I still think I like the first one out of velour best, but the second one out of velvet is pretty good, too. What do you think?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

My second one is up on the Viewing Thread! This is green velvet for the gown, a vest from a semi sheer fabric with flocked evergreens and gold deciduous trees. And a separate hat from the same fur trimmed velvet as the gown. This is the expensive Velvet and is much easier to work with, for me, than the stretchy craft velvet. We have some leather left from one of Laura's Ren. Fair projects and used that to make his toy bag.
Now I have to decide what to do for #3.....?

Victoria Harbour, ON

And Janice you were just about ready to give up..now look at how handsome he is..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

All of the Santa's are so nice. They all show our individual designs, and talents. Way to go!
LK

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

OMG! They just get better and better! Trisha, Phyllis and Janice are putting me to shame. On their 3rd and 4th santas before I can even get the first one done! LOL!

Trishia, your last one is so rich and elegant. Janice, your charm belts really add to the look. Either one would make a lovely gift. Phyllis, you are a santa making machine! Every one of them are a work of art.

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Trisha I have been waiting for you to show the Santa with that green velvet and the one with the evergreen trees. I loved that material and i love it even more on your Santa. The vest really shows off the pattern.
How did you get the skirt to flare out so well. Mine wants to drop in folds and while that looks good with the velour it doesn't with the velvet.
THAT'S what I wanted my santa to look like!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sometime Janice it's the drape of the material...I have to agree with Fleurs...all are very impressive...glad I don't have one, can now incorporate YOUR designs..lol

My big workshop is tomorrow..with all the storms lets home I get to teach it..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm worrying where I'm gonna get the rounds and the dowells. I know Lowe's has the dowels, but not the rounds. I need a stapler to attach the "arms". I have all kinds of ideas in my head, just have to find the stuff to put them together with! All the Santas are beautiful!

Victoria Harbour, ON

wouldn't it be easier Audrey if I just sent them to you..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Of course, but I don't have the money right now.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Janice the flair in the skirt is due to the fact that the Fur I used is a ver heavy fabric normally used to make Coats. I cut a strip twice as wide as i need and turn it under and stitch it with the robe fabric sandwiched in the middle......makes it very thick and stiff.....like hoop skirts back in the day. If I wanted to get that fullness and not use the heavy trim I would probably Just make him a "half slip" out of quilt batting to go underneath.

Audrey I couldn't find the rounds here anywhere so I bought a couple of the Large Wooden Heart Shapes at Michaels. On one I used the Stapler to put the wire on for the arms...If you don't have stapler I just drilled a small hole through the dowel for the second one, crossed the wire in front, gave it one twist and a good dab of hot glue.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Great idea! I could do that! We don't have a Michaels here, and W*M is trying to cut out everything that makes me happy! I'm still thinking, though! I wont give up!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Audrey, how about trying the $$$ store for round wooden trivet??

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

OK, I'll try that!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I was looking around our shop and it dawned on me that as full as the skirts are the base doesn't have to be round., or even wood for that matter just a 6" piece of 2" x 6 " lumber would be wide enough and heavy enough to work....

We were at a Trade Show in Las Vegas and one booth had a helmet display for kids. They took clay flower pots, put tape over the hole in the bottom and filled them 3/4 full of plaster and put a large dowel in the plaster with leaves on it and a large ball on top to sit the "Helmet Flowers" on. Wouldn't the dowel in a container of plaster work for the Santa's??

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Hello everyone! Just returned from doing some errands and happen to notice that WalMart carries the rounds for $1.12. Also have a sizes of dowels. Might check there Audrey.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I think I might just check my walmart..still need more...did you find them in the craft section?

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, I found them there with all manner of shapes and sizes --atleast at this one there was. Funny thing was, I was looking for something else--nope didn't find that!! Wouldn't you know it!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I didn't think about WalMart......it is about 10 miles from here......usually hit JoAnn's and Michaels because they are so much closer....Guess I need to make a trip out to Wally World...a lot less work than making the bases!

But of course Marion, one can never find any thing when actually LOOKING for it.....the rest of the time it is all you see.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I know!! I was trying not to have to go across town to Michaels but guess I will be doing it after all. I really am desparate for these items. Please no questions as I will have to plea the 5th. Okay? LOL

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

You think you are desperate for items....I just ordered 12, yes 12 more Santa faces from Betty and that is just for the ones I would like to make for family members on Bill's side of the family....doesn't count any of my relatives!!!

But I have to say I am having fun making them and Bill even likes them a lot...never thought that would happen!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol...you know things would have been a lot easier for all of you HAD I ONLY SENT '1' face..lol...then you'd not have been tempted to do something with the 2nd.one

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

My WM does NOT carry the rounds or the big dowels! I looked yesterday.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

But Betty what would we be doing to occupy our time if you had only sent one??? It is like my mom, we don't what she would do if she doesn't have something to stew about!!! And, we get something very good out of this!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm so glad you think we have..lol...

It was a nice way to meet new friends and enjoy time with some I have so admired...a christmas day, now who says people who have never met don't get to do things together....we did!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Ok, Miss Lag-Behind has a question -

found a little time to work on Santa last night. Pulled out the old sewing machine since the new one isn't working and got the hood hemmed. When it's on his head, where are the corners? Are the two front corners hanging in front of his shoulders? Are they loose or attached to something? I think my problem is the choice of fabric. It's just a little too stiff and they don't drape like they should.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I put a dab of glue in the center of the hood and glued it to the top of the head. Then you can arrange the shawl any way you want it! Try different ways, till it looks right to you!
