Announcing the 2008 photo contest!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm a planner nut to, How bout 52 Dahlias LOL

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Tut tut tillys, we should offer a couple of weeks to the others, don't you think?

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

You'd only need 26 categories, you'd put the top 2 pictures from each category on it. I'd be down for a weekly calender.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Can't say I didn't try. Ha Ha

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I love the weekly planner idea. Can't wait to see everyone's photos!

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

I am having a hard time trying to decide just what to enter. I had entered them all, but now I am changing my mind. It's so hard! lol

Santa Fe, NM

I'm going very slowly on this. I looked at 2007 again and there are really nice pictures, for sure.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I went too fast and now wish I had entered some I just took. OH Well maybe next yr. BEV

Benton County, MO(Zone 5a)

dragonfly, you can delete an entry you decide you don't want, then add another one. That's what I have been doing. :-)

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Thank you. I just may do that. BEV

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Some peoples are getting waaaaaay too smart about this methinks!!! I would like to suggest a do-over rule for those who have been kissed by Jack already. If we get kicked, we get an extra entry next year as a do-over on the same subject matter. Whatcha think Dave? ^_^ (Am I desperately grasping for straws or what?)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I pick all mine, and closed the door. if I hassel it out and keep changing I will be a space cadet LOL. I have sooooooo many and the time frame for me is small. I'm done no going back for me, foot down LOL
But I want to......NO. Funny
You all have great pics, but as it has been said before, everyone is critic if we all judge are own we are the worst, Let other eyes see it, and It"s seen in a new prospective. LOL just my 2 cents. just some things I learned last year, my first time.
Enjoy have fun, but don't kill yourselves. LOL

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Are we there yet? 7 sleeps and a nap by my count. I'm setting my alarm for 12:01am on the 1st because I just know Dave will open up the photos quick like a bunny. Dave, will that be 12:01 Texas time? Grenich mean time? oooo it will be the witching hour on Hallowe'en too!!!!

It'll be in the morning of the 3rd that the voting begins. Morning, after I have had a couple cups of coffee and already read the morning news (online, of course).

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks so much Dave. Sorry I have this bad habit of being a tad keen ^_^ er um correction all: 9 sleeps + one sleep with a sleep-in.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

wait...no NAP??!! gotta have a nap in there somewhere! teehee

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The nap has been replaced by the sleep with sleep-in 1AnjL but I hear ya. I have created 'napping nooks' in my garden. I think soon it will be all the rage.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Need some help here. We're trying to upload pictures but it is taking forever and won't load them. I think it is because the pictures are too big. Is there an easy way to downsize these?

Thanks, Kim

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

if you have a photo editor program there should be a way to re size the photo.... if you have one ... which one

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....we finally got one to go through, it just took a long time. So I think as long as we are patient it will be ok.

Thanks!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

good.... glad it worked

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

DG downsizes all my big uns.

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

dahlianut,

I LOVE dahlias, I'm just too busy (read lazy) to dig them up and my zone 5 isn't good for them. My peonies do great though!

Maybe with global warming :) :) :)

Hi Blue-eyes, Here is a link to a free programme that resizes your pictures;
it's called 'Pixresizer';

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

HELP!

I know this is last minute, but what is the difference between "garden landscapes" and "scenic" ?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Scenic could be anything, like a sunset, pretty snow scene, ocean waves, etc. Garden landscape is specifically in a garden.

High Desert, NV(Zone 5a)

Yes, but gardens can be SO scenic. LOL

I am torn, I have a VERY scenic picture, but it is planted, and not a "nature" picture.

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

I would put it in "Garden" BUT... I may look at the number of entries in each, and put it in the one w/ the fewest entries- but that's sleazy ol' me. You could also go back and look at the 2007 entries in both categories and see which it is most like.

Because I am feeling grumpy today, I am going to air a peeve about the photo contest. I feel that the pictures appearing on/in the calender should be Dave's Garden member photos taken of their own plants, in their own gardens. Maybe this is the case (I didn't check the calender) but, I've seen pictures taken in botanical gardens submitted. I LOVE the pictures, but let's face it, it's hard not to take great pictures of flowers/plants in a controlled, staged setting such as a botanical garden or a flower show. The third option is a photo that is not in a DG garden, but another's garden, or a scene happened upon is fine (to me), but maybe, when selecting the actual calender photo, preference should be shown to DG member's own gardens, except the "Scenic" and other non-plant categories.... just a thought.... I consider myself flamed already, so I am going to go crawl back under my rock to be grumpy!!!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I was just wondering why there is no longer a link on the homepage about the contest? Unless you know where to look for this thread, you would have no idea it was going on or how to enter it.
