Site Update 6/18/2025

Hello Dave's Gardeners,

I'm pleased to announce a new site update. Here's what was released:

- A simplified password reset and forgot username page.

- Editing comments on uploaded guidefile images is now working

- Guidefile images should show all image comments that were not being shown

The ability to update Gardenwatchdog reviews has been fixed

Upcoming Site Updates

A redesigned profile page including:

- Newly designed badges

- All guidefile contributions will be accessible from your public and private profile (Entries created, images, details, comments, zipcode reports)

Hi Tyson, I have a few problems that need fixing on DG.

High Priority
Plantfiles search does not bring up the plants entered in the search parameters. As plantfiles is what it is touted to be, make sure it works.
I cannot update Plantfiles information. I enter it and it is deleted.

Medium Priority
Doing Google searches of latin names rarely results in DG plantfiles. To entice new members/subscribers, Google results should direct to DG.

Low Priority
I have contributed over 15,000 images and for some reason, my images have lost the upright orientation. I need to have the ability to delete my images and re-upload fixed orientation pics.
An overview of forums that are subscription only should be reviewed and a few select forums should be open accessible to entice new members.

Just a few things to start with.

A good example of plantfiles entries getting zapped is: https://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55678 I went to add Sun Exposure and it deleted the rest of the info. I won't attempt to update any other plantfiles until this serious issue is resolved.

Guidefiles are (Plant, Bird and Bugfiles)

Search:
We are working on an update that will update the search to improve accuracy and more exact matches showing at the top.

Image orientation:

Please provide a few example URL's and I'll pass this to our tech team. You shouldn't have to delete and re-upload .

Subscriber only forum sections:
Forum sections that are open for posting for Subscribers only are marked with the leaf icon. I'll look into what we can do to make this clearer. Most of the forums are open for non-subscribers.

Inability to update plantfiles:

Please provide a URL of the plantfile you are unable to update and the field you are trying to edit.

The PF I tried to add info but zapped the rest of the info is shown here: https://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/55678 I also noticed the same thing happening with another plantfile but can't remember which one. I'd say this is a high priority as so much info is lost with an attempted field update.
My mistake on forums. I thought the red dot was only subscribers. Are there forums that can be made available to non-subscribers that would attract more potential subscribers? ie bring people to DG?
I no longer can find a link to my PF pic contributions. It used to be on my profile page but has vanished.
I read somewhere I will lose my Uber status later this year. Am I correct?
I can't believe how quiet the plant id forum is. It used to be so many posts every day.
So, Dave's no longer here. Any thought of changing the name and starting a-new?

Hi Tyson, I hope you can get someone to fix this issue. I have been losing my posts. I just realized that instead of actually posting my reply the system is coming up with the preview page. If I didn't go back to check then my post would be gone I guess. I sent a message through the site on Saturday. I also posted here and then deleted it.

This morning I tried to post something and it didn't post. I tried again and it went to preview and I tried posting that. Nothing showed up. Then two posts showed up.

As a paid subscriber the very least I should be able to do is post something. I also feel the same about an unpaid subscriber. I don't know if this is from your update or not. Whatever it is I would like someone to do something sooner rather than later.

And this too went to reply to post again and update preview.

After the initial preview, there should be a button to publish the post. Be sure to look for that and not mistake it with the second preview button shown.

So do I have to preview now in order to post? I have only had to do with when adding an image. And please share why in the world would there be two previews?

I guess I will ask again - why all of a sudden do I have to preview my post? And why does DG now make it so damn hard to do anything at all here? Why the two previews if you can only use one and today I would have not idea which one is the correct one from your reply to me.

In case this has been missed - I do not want to have to preview my posts!!

And another post lost. So what do I have to do to be able to post here on DG?

Again, thanks so much for getting back to me about the issue I have been having. As a paid subscriber I am not impressed with your lack of customer service at all. I have posted here and again through DG mail. I guess that is a big F for someone.

I got the dmail that my paid subscription will expire soon and I have to renew. When is someone going to respond with the issues I have been having with posting? No one has responded to the question regarding having to preview every post. How long am I supposed to wait for an answer?

And while I wait for some kind of answer about posting it would be nice if someone at DG took care of all the spam posts in the forums.

And is there some sort of reason when I go to Parking Lot the threads continue to Feb 28, 2019? I bet this is helpful to no one at all.

So is there someone at DG who is supposed to be checking for spam on the site. Might want to do it daily.

And I am still waiting for answers to my questions. I post here and am told to post on the d-mail - I do that and again - no reply. What gives? Is this really the best you can do? You do know if there is now a new way to post on DG I would think you would share it with everyone. I am still trying to figure out why I cannot just sign on to DG. I still have to use a link that has been provided.
