I get kind of claustrophobic in those little water closets too... so, no closure there.
We also don't have a door on the bath leading to the bedroom... it's all open.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay, let's do it for next year for sure. I think we can get help for those who don't sew. I will check to see if I can locate the box with my stuff in it to do transfers. Had bought some about a month before hubby died and well, not sure what I did with it. I know it is out there and not all that expensive. We could even use a good grade of muslin for our background or solid white 100% cotton, for sure. Anyone else interested. All we would do is our transfers with picture and mail on to other. Finish in your own time.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh, BJ, you did good! The tub looks like it could be in a spa. Such soothing colors, too. Was the sink vanity a family piece or did you buy it for that purpose? Was your remodel featured in any deocorator magazines? It should have been.

Stacey, I agree. Don't like those rooms inside a room. What's that all about?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Y'all have fun planning and playing. I love this sharing of ideas. Make us avoid certaing mistakes.
Got to step away from the pc and do my Saturday stuffs.. like shopping!
Have a fantastic Saturday sistahs!

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Me too. It's after 10am and I haven't done a thing. Later gators ...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Have a good one no matter what you do.

No Debra, we looked high and low for that buffet in every antique store around... had to be certain dimensions, the doors and drawers had to be in certain places to accomodate the plumbing, and that's hard to find. We removed the top and replace it with stone, and cut off about 8" of the legs.

The buffet in our bedroom under our TV was the same way... the doors had to be wide enough to get the satellite receiver and DVD player in, and it had to be a certain height and length to look right... we always had a measuring tape on us when we left the house.

I think the quilt idea is great. Have seen the picture quilts and they are wonderful. The would be a great project for 2009!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Well, I guess Mom just volunteered to sew mine!!LOL

BJ-I too loved the sinks!!What a great idea!!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

I don't feel like doing nothin' I have to put the garden to bed while the weather is nice and do the wash and go to the store and spray the little pumpkin wagon that goes outside and finish some sewing and I really don't feel like doing any of it! Too much fun to sit and talk to you all.
Stacey...Christy's birth is Oct.23 same as my birdfeeder buddy.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Ok.. got in back here, just to oggle over the pictures. I still say, some decorating talent you have BJ.
Somewhere I read Deborah says, one room at a time. That's my problem maybe, I think of 4 rooms at a time and get tired in the planning!!
Also, Janice, if there's a place that will buy the materials I accumulated through the years, they'll certainly will fetch me enough money for that Bernina I always wanted!!
Ok.. take care sistahs!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I always forget-I know it is right B4 or right after mine, but I never rememeber...it is fun to chat, plus if you are away for too long it takes all morning to catch up with this chatty group!! See-it is fun mom!!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Loving all the pictures too! Oh Debra, a farmhouse sink, yes! Love those too! I did replace my sink with a deeper one and got a goose neck faucet. Large pots can sit down in it, but not my most favorite pasta pot. I regret not putting in a farmhouse sink. Could kick myself a thousand times. Any remodeling anyone does, especially when on a tight budget, my advice is to give yourself one special item in that room that you've always wanted. You can work around all the rest of the project.
Bj, major goreous and spacous bathroom. Everybody needs a large bathroom! I'll call you sometime about that 4' extention y'all had done. I want to know more about that. It reminds me of a Roman spa too. The throne room inside the bathroom y'all where talking about, well, that feels like the size of my whole bathroom. It is squeezingly too small. But I do like a hidden throne room though. I like to get lost with a magazine. And Tina if BJ can knock a whole wall out to extend her bath, could you knock a small whole in your wall to install a window? Now I can see myself in bubbles soaking in Cindy's garden tub. Mine's a vice. I got stuck in mine one time.:( No joke, for real. Once when I had leg cramps in the middle of the night, I had to sit down in the tub with hot water. When I tried to get up I couldn't. Got my hips stuck on both sides of my tub. Wedged in like a sardine can. I couldn't wake up Larry because of he couldn't hear me over his cpap machine with the door closed. Everytime I tried to pull up on the soap dispenser, I'd get another massive cramp in my legs. Well, I thought I was going to have to stay stuck until Larry woke up in the morning. I managed to get out but I was fit to be tyed. Warning: hippies like me, don't sit down in a narrow tub with leg cramps.
Y'all have a good Saturday. I'm needing something to eat.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

It was worth the search, BJ. It turned out beautifully. I wanted to do something similar in the guest bath or 1/2 bath but never found the right piece. The cabinet maker made a stand for the 1/2 bath sink from a photo of one in a magazine. this was taken soon after moving in. My plan was to make a gathered fabric skirt aroung the bottom of the sink. It's been 5 years and still no skirt.

Deborah, that's too funny. But must have been frightening at the time. I've seen your photos. that had to have been a very skinny tub.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, dear friends...here's the whole story about that 4' build out of the house.

Don bought that HUGE tub right after we bought this house. Found it at one of those salvage places that has nothing but building supplies. At the time, we had no plans yet on what we were going to do in that bath. The tub sat at the salvage store with a sold sign on it for 6 months, then sat on our sun porch for another 6 months before we ever started drawing up plans. Then we realized that even after we knocked out the closet in that bath, we still didn't have room for the tub. By now, I'd come to hate that tub, but it was Don's dream tub... so, I had to keep trying to come up with a plan. My dream was the big shower, so that had to be planned in there somewhere too.

When we bought the house, it didn't have a garage, or a carport or even a driveway for that matter. So, we decided to build a carport on that side of the house, and while we were at it, we thought we'd just move the exterior wall out 4' to accommodate the tub. Well, that cut way into our building budget, so, that delayed our bed/bath remodel. By doing ALL the labor ourselves, and biting off just what our budget would allow, a year later we had it all done.

NOTE... that bath has been finished now for almost a year... and we've been in that tub for a total of 1 (ONE) time... it takes 70 gallons of water to fill it, and we really just haven't taken the time to enjoy it. Everyone I talk to that has or has had a tub like that says the same thing... it's just not worth the money or the effort. The shower gets used everyday.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Deborah... too funny... but too scary too... thinking about getting stuck in a tub when nobody can hear me cry for help would scare the beejeebees out of me... I get claustrophobic in bathrooms anyway... but that would cause a living nightmare for me.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh no! all that effort and you don't use the tub? Could you make a planter out of it?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Or a fountain?

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Now, there's a thought... at least I wouldn't have to clean it every week... just to get the cobwebs and dust out of it.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I told Don once that I was just going to fill it full of water and float candles in for ambiance when I was sitting on the potty... he didn't appreciate that.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I can see me in it. Bubbles, a glass of wine, music, candles....knowing I could get up if I wanted to.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

WithOUT having to call 911.

ROTFLMBO!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... Deb, the one and only time we got in it, we did have a glass of wine, and candles, and music playing... but we were way too tired to really appreciate it... Maybe this winter we'll do that again... when we haven't worked our buts into the ground that day.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok the DG quilt idea that is going around. how about, we have buddies, match them up as non sewing and sewing. For example, my buddy would be a non sewing person. In turn my non sewing buddy would provide the fabric????? We all would know who our buddies were. We would only accommodate the girls that are here at the time of ........ and by chance we have more non sewing we could double up or something. Now to get the pictures transferred???? I have no clue as to that. This might take a bit of postage mailing back and forth and such, but I LOVE the idea. I think it can be done. Work out the kinks and such.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

my brain hurts

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

lol sorry brain thinking and to much going on in it. Ever now and then it does think or work.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Y'all iron out (no pun intended) all the details since I don't sew. I might hand stitch, sew on a button, that kind of thing, but I don't have quilt stretcher frames and the such. Even my scissors are in my tool box so they probably wont even cut material. That reminds me, I've got to get a decent pair for the Victorian Santa though.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

he he I was thinking 'I sew but don't know how to quilt, so am I a sewing buddy or a fabric buddy'? Was thinking too hard - made my brain hurt.

Glenview, IL

Good afternoon everyone! Wow I have enjoyed meeting everyone through photos. Thank you for inviting us to your beautiful homes.

we can work this out I know we can.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

OH, Judy, throw my cares to the world, I'd live there year around! More pics More pics

Glenview, IL

The Quilt sounds like alot of fun!...I haven't made a quilt ever, but I can sew it someone were to tell me directions I'd would enjoy helping with your quilt.

The next photo is the kitchen. Since this photo, we now have drywall up and the appliances in the room, but still not hooked up. We want to paint and get the flooring done. Which actually, underneath the linolium is stunning wood floors, So our plan is to try and restore the it.

As you see we are living in a very make shift space, What a pain but it will be nice when everything is in working order, LOL goal was Labor day, but that didn't happen...And i am happy to report that i actually helped to build that wall and install the window!

Then The other side, The kitchen is long and narrow. This house has a great history. The Kitchen was actually the original Cabin. We kept the sink as it is just really cool, We are having it reglazed.

Glad you Like it Deborah, We fell in love with it and the grounds. There were not very many windows, Very dark...We love the to watch the sunset soWe install huge windows all around...There is a real sence of peace there, and breathtaking views that i find i get lost in its glory.

This view is where the sink used to be, we will have a table and bench here so we always have a view of the lake and sun.

Glenview, IL

How could one not appreciate this view, I like to sit in this spot often to read or sew or whatever i am working, unless i spot the caridnals and wildlife to watch...One day i swear i will capture our Eagle on film....heheh, DH keeps a pair of sunglasses on the windowsill for me!

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

WOW, Judy... that's going to be soooo wonderful when it's finished....

Glenview, IL

So that is the Kitch, We also have a sloet built in next to the fridge for a stacking washer and dryer...I will be in heaven when that finally goes in, but you it will be last, sigh.

So we move on to the great room, which is the living area. I wil show you in two sections as it is quite a nice size.

If you were coming from the kitch, this is the view looking to the right. We now have a shelf on that wall wich holds the tv, LOL I still haven't seen it myself...next weekend. This year we actually got Cable, until then we only watched nature. The kids getting older so we figure they can watch tv in the evening and keep from arguing over silly things.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

BJ I'm comin to your hose to pretend I am at the spa LOL love it

Ok for the quilt idea...you will need an ink jet printer not laser
iron on transfer paper - HP has some that has 12 sheets for 15.00
a Picture of yourself
a piece of white cotton or muslin material -which we can decide on which one to use.
a piece of material that reflects you so to speak ...like Marion and ladybugs..to go around the white fabric.
size to square to be decided yet it will be cut into strips to frame your picture with.

scan the picture to your computer then print it on the transfer paper making sure by test printing on plain paper that it is the right size and looks the way you want.
Once all the squares are sent out you put it together using fabric that goes with whatever room you are going to put it in or use white and the backing as for the quilting part of it ...LOL...we may just have to find who does that and has teh means to do it for everyone ...ROFL..I have yet to do ti and have no stretcher here either.

Glenview, IL

Here is the other side (left.) As you see we really like the open feel so opened up the stair case, Originally we wanted to install long windows in the walls up there but it was a feasable task...So that wall is going to be a gallery of the house. We met the original owners children and they gave us the Photo's of the Cabin to additions. and it's funny because We rehabbed it almost in the same order it was built. And i do have pics of all our work so i think it's going to make a cool time line.
