Hi Sandra, beautiful little girl, and a great name.
What you have is the moonflower bush I think, same thing, but one vines and the other bushes. Aren't they lovely, and yes, both belong to the datura family. Quite toxic, actually. I had a bush last year, but it didn't return and I didn't save the seeds, but I loved it. At night in moonlight it looked like little white lanterns bobbing in the wind.
I will see if I can find a picture of it and post here.
Gotta find it...be back later.
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #60 visit with friends...
Thanks Shar...not many of those names am I familiar with, now I've got to go put name to faces..OMG isn't that design beautiful..you'll have to share the process...I've made jackets and vests using other old jeans but not this process..interesting...did it take you awhile AND were you there an entire 3 days??? how much fun was that...and to be serenated, wonderful..I am so looking forward to Sat. night when I get to hear Harold play his songs, many of which have been recorded..so can understand how relaxing that must have been for you...how many all total would you say attended the round up???
No round-ups here in Canada, guess we all live so far away from each other...only reason I can think of...
Too bad Crissy you don't have a Tim Hortons much better than Starbucks..lol..must be the Canadian in me...
Yes, Sharron they are quite toxic I found out when I googled "Moonflower". I also have a ton of Salvia plants in a side garden and learned the same way that they too are toxic. I have some Foxglove as well that I know are Toxic and so far little Amiyah is only interested in the vegetables luckily. LOL
I am going to try to find another picture of another "just popped up" in the pea rock by our back door. Can't bear to pull them up but I have had to in order to save my other plants. And thank you, yes my little Amiyah is a sweetie pie! (Most of the time) LOL
Hello Sandra, welcome, you'll find some beautiful human flowers here on this thread as well..now look at that adorable little girl..Amiyah, how unique...I've been hearing sooo many new names for children, Ariana is the name of my new niece..difficult to remember these new names at times..do you find she gets Ami???
Beautiful moonflowers, why do the prettiest of flowers have to be toxic...
Lovely garden Sandra..are the moonflowers a vine type plant...
I'll take anything at this point in time lol! Tim Horton's can't be more expensive.
They look awfully hardy Shar...is this the one you didn't get seeds for?
Meant ot ask, how did the black garden do this year, were you pleased with it for it's first year?
I've some kind of vine, looks similar, but one year I left it go and it strangled most of my flowers so now I'm pulling them out as quick as I can see them..will have to take photo..almost looks like wild morning glory type vine...
Betty, are the wild morning glory type vine more of a green pointy instead of more rounded like the Morning Glory's? Does it have white flowers. If so, I have them and they are beautiful but I pull them out too because they do choke out my stuff too. Almost lost a beautiful Honey Suckle to it.
Here is another pic of a moon flower and morning glories. Notice the dead pile of MG's I had to pull off all my perennials on the other side of the fence.
Black garden didn't get underway as such yet. People sent me things, like your pennyblack seeds, and some bromelaids...some iris, daylilies, hollyhock seeds, etc....all through the summer, so it will maybe become reality next summer. So many things I have to put in it....columbine, but most are seeds from this year's harvest, so it will come together in time.
People are so good about things like that. I saved some of the pennyblack seeds, sowed some, and the strangest thing, they bloomed white with a black stripe down the middle of each petal. Very pretty, but not entirely black like the package showed. Might have something to do with the soil. Anyway, I saved some of those seeds.
The Moonflower bush, I did try to save some seeds, but last year was not my best, you know, and I might have just lost them or misplaced them. They did not come up wild like Sandras, but then mine were in pots if you remember.
I will get some stuff together and show you how to make the denim designs....takes only about 20 minutes to do them...very easy, and very fun because you can see instant results.
Maybe tomorrow.
Hi all and welcome Sandra, Betty is right. You will find the most beautiful and loveing people on this thread. Not talking about myself, loveing maybe beautiful no LOL. If you are like me you will never keep up. They are so fast!!!! Any wants or needs, we always try to help each other. HUGS BEV
Purple Asters
Bev----
Do those Asters come back for you? I have never had any luck!....:o(
What is the secret????? I LOVE the bright blues and intense pinks! Would love to have a couple in my yard....Do they "need" a cooler Summer/Fall than we have here?
I could pick some up on clearance at this tome---going out of bloom, of course.
Is it worth it? Do you treat them like Mums?
Thanks, Gita
This pic is of the darker asters than I have. I have the real light lavender ones. There are darker ones than this and they grow wild along the country roads here. I am going to dig some next week when we go camping. They just come back every year. I can't grow a mum to save my soul LOL. All these here fall apart so I tied mine to a trellis. BEV

Morning all,
Hi and welcome to Sandra
You sound good today Laura..keep up your spirit.
Gita and Bev..I have those dark purple asters growing wild in my yard..they are quite tall and lean over but they are a cherry sight in the fall. I have bought the Monck Asters before and they didn't come back.
I recently bought a few small pink asters at the garden centre..they are in pots on my deck..but I will plants them in the ground before it freezes.
This photo is washed out but you can see some of the wild asters under the sumac and at either side of the entrance to the Nook garden.
Sharon..great to see a happy gang at the KY RU..I recognized Howie and Gardenwife and Roadrunner when I saw the photo.
Betty..an adorable pic of the new baby girl Arianna..love the dark hair.
Morning, rushing off to work, didn't get home till very late last night, posted a long post to all of you and puff - off into cyber space it went...not good
So will enjoy my coffee with you this morning when I get to work,,nice time to chat..
Hi All - I hope everyone is doing well. I've been a busy (and sick) bee this past week. Came down with a cold last Wed and stayed home from work Thurs & Friday. Feeling MUCH better but still have the awful tickle in the throat at night! Stayed busy this weekend getting ready for a garage sale (yard sale) the neighbors and I are doing this Sat. I have been going thru the house and pulling stuff, pricing it and trying to organize it all. We got it all moved out to the garage last night and now just need to get it all spread out and ready to pull out Sat morning. Whatever is not sold will go to Goodwill! Ironically, we found out yesterday that we owe Uncle Sam $500 from a 2006 tax mistake so whatever we sell goes to pay that. JOY!
Fall is finally in the air and I am so ready for cooler weather! I love the smell of autumn! We are going to try and head up to Charlottesville the first week of Oct to go apple picking. We go every year and I buy so many darn apples, I have to give them away. It's my one time of year to make apple pie, bread and other yummies!
The dogs are doing great. Murphy has really bonded with Sailor and while he's bigger, she rules! I will have to get a picture of them - he lays in the yard and she gets on top of him and just lays there and bites his head. He's so tolerant!
Betty, you asked about the school trip for our DD. We decided to pass on the trip to Italy but have agreed to send both kids on the Grand Canyon for their 8th grade trip. We've sent the deposit off for DD's today so she is all signed up. The stipulation we made with her is we will pay for the trip but she has to save her spending money. If she doesn't save anything, we won't give her any. So of course, she is going thru the entire house and looking for things to sell and the garage sale! I've got to go behind her and make sure she's not selling stuff she shouldn't!!
Well, back to work. I'll chat later.
Jeannine
Hello to everyone. Another of those times when I was doing chores and reading here at the same time. Whenever I do that I forget anything that I wanted to comment on. So, just checking in. Jeannine, we are having the same wonderful weather as yourself today. All windows and doors are open and the breeze is exactly the right temperature. I am heading outside in a little bit to look over the gardens and clean up doggy stuff. You will be within 20 miles from if you are going to Carter's Mountain Orchard for apples. You sure do travel this direction a lot. I should begin looking for some real estate property for you in the area. ha-ha Anyway, if you would have time on your apple picking trip, please feel free to stop by and see our gardens and some of John's rock work. I can guarantee that I will send you home with a load of plants too if I can interest you in some Sedum Autumn Joy, Calla Lilies, Lamb's Ear, Columbine and possibly a Day Lily. I would love to meet you in person Jeannine, so that we can tell others on here that we finally met, living this close together and all. Let me know.
Sharran, love the RU picture. That was a good turnout. I love the get togethers that The Mid Atlantic Group has here. There was actually one last Sunday but we were unable to go.
Okay, cleaning lady is here, need to scoot. See all of you ladies later on.
Ruby
Morning, busy/busy here this morning, trying to organize myself with regards to the 2nd Annual On-line workshop which will be a Victorian Santa...so now I'm posting the robe instructions so everyone can do that part of it at their leisure...such an old project for me, had to go back and rethink it and how I'll do it so that it's easier for everyone...so there went the a.m.
Lunch at 1:00 will be a hurry/hurry drive past the airport to pick up my saw..oh lucky me...that is until I hand over $439.77...then tears..could be a new window..lol..oh well, saw earns me $$$$...
Did post a lengthly bit last night and lost it, so won't go through everything again but will tell you about my evening...
just before leaving for work I offered to pick up Suzanne in Midland after leaving her vehicle for Lenny who is a truck driver and who would be arriving in the middle of the night, he left his car for new mom because hers is being repaired...Suzanne then said she needed to do groceries because over the weekend with birth of new grandchild she didn't get the opportunity so I said I've visit with brother Bernie for an hour and then pick her up at the truck depot...now it's 7:00 pm and rather than hiding her car keys for hubby to find, one of the truckers was there so he let her in and put keys in Lenny's mail box..all's right with the world, so now we leave to go home, must pass my home and continue another 10 minutes to hers, get there and all of a sudden it dawns on her, no keys to the house they are on the key set that's locked up in the transport company office....so now what, she telephone DD and she has a spare so back into Midland we go, get to visit with Ariana for 1/2 hr. and then back to Waubaushene, by now it's 9:10 or so and I'm just getting home..no sooner opened the door and DS Greg arrives with 2 plug covers in hand, none of the saws of mne he has will cut them so came over to use yet another of mine..we discuss all the work he's done at his house, he's so proud of the upgrades, not that they needed to be done - they don't know the difference between 'need' and 'want' lol...he examines my work, of course found 2 flaws, one the white glue came out between the tiles, a little more than he'd like to see..lol..but otherwise said I did a great job, that it doesn't look pretty before the grouting..said he'd come over and brings the trowels tonight, knows I'm anxious to get going..saw some of my goodies hanging on the wall already but kept quiet, just shook his head...so like his father, whenever we moved, before furniture was moved in I had to have curtains up..little quirks we have...lol
So long and the short, 10:00pm I'm in bed without any evening of sitting and enjoying leisure time...maybe tonight/maybe not...
Jeannine, sorry to hear you've not been well, someone was saying the strep throat is going around here..of course I hear that after I visit with DB last night ...
New guy we hired 'Jim' only worked a few hours yesterday, sick/sick with cold, didn't come in today..best not, we all don't want to catch it...
So funny Jeannine, can see your DD going through everything trying to earn $$$...you'll have to give her the odd job and mark down what she's earned and keep it for her...your apple venture sounds wonderful and so close to Ruby, you must try to get together...I do the apple thing as well, it's in Meaford and will be happening Oct.4th..
As for our Carol, she's more apples than she knows what to do with..that's what you get when you live in the Garden of Eden....apples/apples and more apples...
Gita, I was so annoyed on Sunday when I went to Home Depot, here they had hundreds of perrenials and shrubs sitting out front, not discounted, well to me 20% off at this time of year isn't a real discount, anyway a lady was standing talking to a clerk, wanted to know if she bought mega shrubs/plants what would they give them to her, girl said no further discount, so the lady said 'what do you do with them' and the girl said 'destroy them and get credited'...now why couldn't they give them to the senior homes or municipal community gardens...what a waste..and to see rose plants, and beautiful shrubs destroyed..OMG, makes me ill...
Shar, isn't it amazing that soil could so change the color of a plant..I always think if you plant a seed that's exactly what you get, photo on front of seed packet, but guess not...next year, I'm sure that 'black' garden will look beautiful..how about all those rose bushes, they were not damaged were they? Loved the group photo...will go back and put name to faces...
Laura, am looking forward to more photo's of the grandchildren...you know, sometimes we work ourselves into a tizzy and it's all for not..so don't get yourself worked up until it actually happens...it must be warming up there, what would your day temperature reach at this time of year...so glad you've your friendship coat to keep you warm and wrapped in love...so special..makes our hearts warm at the thought that you feel comforted...
Liz, fall has arrived, and the only think I can think of is you with all those boxes of Halloween goodies sitting there waiting to be taken out..you so enjoy Halloween, maybe that's what you need, to be surrounded by things you love...get at it, out with the 1st box....
Ruby, you are busy as well, counting the days I'm sure before you head out...sure wish I could join you on the east coast..maybe next year I'll venture out..would try and go that way at Christmas but that would be taking a chance wouldn't it witht he snow/ice in the mountains?
Well better go back and figure out quickest way to the airport area...
Oh Happy Days...got me my saw today...felt naked without it..lol...workshop room complete once again...
Hooray for Betty..all is right with the world..LOL
Waving Hello to eveyone!!
Yipee and great joy!! Had an extremely busy day today, most exciting because I actually had to use my brain, LOL. I am learning thew new program and finally got a log on so they asked me to help enter some "orders" . Well with orders there are alot of issues, like wrong numbers, titles and blah,blah...so got to use some other skilss like research for the correct info...So it was really kind of fun and i did alot of conversation with myselfLOL, like ok this where you that information, yippee it worked, ok now how did I do that...
So last night, well I'll just say it's over and resolved, but gosh, you put me and Steve in an argument and there is no Peace until it is settled and time turns to irrelevant along with everything else. LOL, all the while getting stuff like dinner and other routine business done. Quite the riot, now that I think about it. Anyway, We'll not argue like that again for a while...Life is merry once again.
Oh gosh, havent been apple picking in absolute ages.
Betty, yay on your saw. Now you know that will be paid off in this first Season with all the use you will be giving it...
Did I welcome Sandy? Can't remember, so WELCOME Sandy! You litlle grand daughter is adorable. Jump on in at any part of the conversations, LOL we tend to chat on about alot...Some just the garden, some Like me about everything else, But We Love to all visit and spread great care for eachother, enjoy hearing stories as well as tell them. We've lots of great talent, from art, gardens, decorating...
Shar, My that Veast is really neat. You did that on pieces of cotton didn't you? Geesh, i can't beleive you remebered all of who was who!
Great Photo of the group at RU!! Well, it be wonderfull when the Black Garden takes.
LIZZZZZ, where are ya? Hello and what are you up ta?
Ruby, Glad to see you post, Hope you are doing well..LOL,
Gita, I have never had much success with the Mums either.
Beve, beautiful Asters!
Hi Carol, Did I mention how wonderful that Mirror is? It is, I like where you placed it too. Been thinking of all your apples, you'll be having picking party's soon huh.
OK Steve just got home so I've got to see what up, whew he had me running arrands...
OH sending Laura a big cozy hug!
Hey, is Cat on the road again? Waving Hello.
Ves too!!
see ya!..Feel better Jeannine.
Hi Laura, y
Just dropping in for a quick sec...don't know what's happening but home late again, yes I do know what happened, mega accidents, few will have families mourning them..how tragic..
Judy, yep just so excited to have my saw..trying to justify buying it..no birthday, no anniversary, but could say it's a Thanksgiving gift to me/to me...yippee
Have you ever seen anyone get so excited about getting a tool..but I know all the things it will make, the pretties for my garden, pretties for my house and pretties for friends so yes, it's a good thing to be 'happy'
You have me laughing Judy, just think of the making up you and Steve can do tonight..funny how something we argue about seems so very important and the next day, we laugh, can't understand what all the fuss is about...
Odd kind of day...yesterday I got a call from both Mom and sister Sharon to tell me my brother was having financial difficulty...really not his fault, if you remember his house burnt last year, entire upper floor and insurance wouldn't cover it because it had something to do with wood stove etc. - he has a case going to court against the insurance company, probably won't get heard for a good part of the year anyway, am sure you don't have the entire night to listen to me ramble, make a long story short, he had to take out a mortgage of $100K to rebuild upper floor or tear down the house..because he hadn't been working for some time due to illnessand took time off to re-build the year went quickly by, it was only for 1 year term at high interest...anyway the year was up last month and he couldn't get another mortgage soooo that means big trouble..I know the lender, friend of Jeff's and he also does work with us at the office, he's on floor 5 and we're on floor 2...every time he calls he sweet talks me, tells me he's always thinking about me, says I'm a sweetie pie...he'd be about 40 same age as Jeff....anyway after hearing the story last night I told Bernie I'd make a call on Robert and see what I could do...so this morning, went and talked to him, tried to sweet talk him, and when I was finished he said that he watched the Emmies the other night and saw the film clip they had won best actress for in each category and none matched my performance...lol...so, as far as I know when Bernie calls tomorrow, everything will be looked after, let's hope..cross your fingers and prayers please...he's had a lot of bad luck and it wouldn't hurt to turn the tables to good luck...
When I got to Bernie's tonight to tell him the info I got, I had supper in a bag waiting for me to take home...looks delicious and it's almost 9pm and I still have not eaten..even fresh apple pie...lucky me...see in the photo, still no grout done to the tiles...getting lazy in my old age, would have before stayed up till midnight finishing the project..so I am learning...one must rest...
Then I'm sitting in my office while the guys are all working, have newspaper print all over the floor that I'm taping together so I can figure out best placement for cutting the Victorian Santa robe/sleeves and cape and Paul comes in and sits-asks what I'm up to so explain the process and for this lol he pays me good money...
Anyway, Wayne off and on is ok with Suzanne and I but he can be a problem..guess he went to Paul and said that I passed a few calls over to him for assessments, really those that involve equity and mortgages.....he's suppose to be the top notch assessment officer...
Paul says 'Betty, I didn't realize you were putting the calls over to Wayne with regards to equity/mortgage files...I wondered why the % ratio of calls coming in versus actual appts. made had decreased in the past 6 months...so, need you to take all the calls just as you did before I hired Wayne"...I explained the reason for it, being they could get more indepth info from Wayne, so he says " You have the ability while talking to individuals calling in to make them comfortable, to make them understand that there is nothing wrong with needing help, life happens and everyone at some time or another needs help, you make them feel good about themselves and make them feel as though there is hope like no one else I've ever seen take calls, so all calls have to go through you for that purpose..we all treat our clients with respect and are pleasant but only because of how you speak with them do we get them as clients...." so guess Wayne's complaint backfired to some degree...so back being a support system for everyone calling in...
Gorgeous!
Sitting here more than a bit disturbed, got a d-mail from a dg friend and I don't know where or how to help and it's URGENT - Life and Death and I'm more than overwhelmed...so starting my day with a very heavy heart...
Dropped in in search of friends...you all must be busy...
I'm here Betty, worrying right along with you. Keep us posted. Wish there was something I could do. HUGS BEV
Here, too...
Worried, but not sure what to worry about.
Hi Betty,
Prayers are definately Going up...
...Well, i am not much help as just deleted whats up with me.
Will just tell you, i am now swamped.
The other things i escaped from a could have been a terrible accident this morning, I am a good driver and thankfully pay close attention to other drivers. Not sure why some peole still get a drivers license.
OK I 've got to run envelopes.
Be safe on the Roads my friends...
Oh Betty, just got your d-mail. We've got to try to do something for her.
Yes, i agree..Betty,
E-mailed a church located in the town you said,
Copied you and Will watch to see if they replay with help.
I hope so!
thanks girls...I misread your d-mail Judy, thought I had to contact them...thanks for doing so...seem so helpless at times don't we...wonder if we all take stock of how important we all are to each other and how we worry about each other..especially when we don't see a post, or when posts are brief..to many a post means the world, and yes, sometimes the difference between life and death...am I being dramatic, nope, just think some time we just take our words as playful, but to others they mean the world...
Just as your posts do to me...
I was on the telephone last night with a friend who lost her DH a couple of years ago, she's taken to drinking quite a bit, don't think she realizes I know this but I do..anyway I could sense that even though she called to say she wasn't going to be at painting tonight as she will be attending Rita's FIL funeral in the morning that there was something further she wanted, and there was, just needed a friend..she asked me knowing about the death of Roger and then Bill what came into my life to make me so strong and the will to go on..doesn't the loneliness get overwhelming?
Said that between good friends, family, my extended DG family which of course you all are and don't for one sec think you are any less a close friend because we haven't met or we're so far away, sometimes you all just make the difference between a bad day or an unbearable day...I've also learnt that I can sit, feet up, think about the past, the what could have been or I can promise myself that the days ahead will be full and making them worthwhile by trying to do a kindness each day...
I would hate that my friendship with this individual in need was for not, that I didn't have the ability to get through that everyone is of value, everyone is loved in some fashion, perhaps not a DH, perhaps not a parent or not a child but somewhere you are loved by someone that you've made a difference to...that I'm sure of...keep praying dear friends...
It's the Director's birthday today so not much work being accomplished, just a lot of chatting. I don't want to be rude so I join in the conversations. I like him anyway, he's awesome.
Betty, I am truly sorry about your friend. I'm sending thoughts and prayers to you, but wish I could help more
And that is one of the sweetest things I have ever read Betty, thank you.
