onewish - you should post your bird shots to the Bird Watching forum. There's a thread like this where folks post bird pictures daily.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, this is the first time I've tried Bishop's Children, even though I've heard about them so many times times (wasn't Andy throwing out piles of them?). they're not showy, but so pretty. I had no luck saving the tubers from the dahlias Al gave me last year. But at least I know I can w/s these.

The new bed for iris seem a bit shady--need a 1/2 day sun at least. Time of day you took the photo?

nutsfordaylily, I love that phlox, nora leigh. My local nursery wants $25.00 a plant for it. Have to shop around before i add that to the garden, I'm sure I can find it for much less. I love the variegation.
I did get some bargains today. I found a variegated Hydrangea 'Mariesii Variegata' for $5.99 at HD.

And two Lilacs that were 75% off at the nursery.

and 'Palibin'.

I'll have to post pics in the spring when they bloom. Little boring now but they were a steal at 75% off.

Great deals, Dyane. Here is gaura.

Thanks, Jan. Easily done!
Victor, I thought of you today. The Viburnums were 75% off too. Why is it that the JM's never seem to be marked down like that???

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - that would be a challenge for me! Yes, JM's always seem to be $$. One of my online sources - Wildwood Maples - is having a fall sale right now.

Here is sedum with Rozanne. There are some old mums getting ready to pop. I planted them years ago and do nothing and they still return - though in a scattered way.

IrisMA, that bed does get a lot of sun on one side but not as much on the other. It is open shade, though, so we will see how they do. I think I took that shot around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, but remember that the sun is lower in the sky now, too, than it was earlier in the summer.

Dyane, that Nora Leigh does get some growth that is not variegated. I just remove the straight green parts. Nice bargains, btw. There is a nursery in Plymouth, MA called Morrison's Home and Garden that usually has a fall sale on JM's for 50% off. Not yet, though. A friend called last week and they weren't on sale yet, but she didn't ask if they were going to have their sale this year.

Going down to 37 tonight. I'm scrambling on my houseplants. Here's the orchids. Nighty night. Rest of the week is much warmer.

Great shots, Allison. Like the night hummer ones. Cool hibiscus, Celeste. Here's a hosta bloom.

I had the macro lens so it was almost impossible to get it in focus without a tripod.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am guessing your lens is big?... that's the one thing I like about my camera the stabilization is really good.... trust me I need it with the larger lenses

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I don't have a macro lens on this camera.....I have a 'close up' setting and a few others. My old camera had the marco but this one's not to bad considering.

Thumbnail by pixie62560
Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it's a decent size lens and it does have stabilization. But for real close shots with such a shallow depth of field, just breathing can cause the subject to be out of focus. Nice, Celeste. In some ways, I still prefer my macro setting on my point and shoot Sony. Less effort for sure. But this one lets me get way closer.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, boojum, 37 is too cold. Looks like I may loose things tonight if it gets that low tonight. Well, maybe if there is no frost I don't have to worry. Looks like fall is finally here. :-(

Allison, that Darwin's Joyce does look about the same as Nora Leigh. That Summer Sorbet looks like a caryopteris or blue mist shrub to me. ???

I went to my garden club meeting tonight and we had a very nice guest speaker on perennial gardening. She lives in Hingham, MA. I would love to see her gardens. She was very informative and also entertaining. Great personality.

I find when the light is good... there is less blur from the pulse or breathing... or my unstable hands

:)

the darker it is... more shake shows... but I will agree Victor small lens even on this camera is way easier in the macro pics then the big ole zoom

Karen you are right

Nice pictures everyone.
Victor thanks for the full shot of the Gaura, its just what I'm looking for, fluffy with small flowers, nice compliment to the geraneums.
We had a cold night 46* no sleeping with the windows open.
Some days its warmer outside than inside mid afternoon.
All in all its been a great summer, not too many days with the AC and plenty of rain for my new perennials.
Now wee will see if they make it thru the winter-- too far away to think about.

It's 40 degrees F here (the lowest all night). Waiting for the sun so I can throw all the sheets into the drier!
