Allison, I'm enjoying your photos very much, especially the hummers. I'm not surprised to see one on the petunia. I bought a hanging basket of petunias last year because a hummer was nectaring on it at the nursery. I figured he picked it out for me LOL. your creepy pic will be great for halloween.
Hi, Dawn. your Ville de Lyon is a beautiful color. is the pic true to actual color?
I missed the entire last thread...nobody can say there is nothing blooming in the NE in Sept LOL
first bloom on 'Elsa Spaeth'. It's growing on a pillar with a yellow rose. I got it because I loved Kassia's
Garden Photos - Part 36
guess he did pick it out for you.... pretty cool
Great shots everyone. Allison, do you have a nyjer(thistle) seed feeder? that's how I get the finches. What's the secret to attracting all the hummers?
Goldfinch love agastache.
yes I have a thistle feeder... more brown colored finches than anything
I have a hummer feeder.... and the agastache no real secrets here
next year if my seedlings make it I have tons of penstemon.. I winter sowed last year... hope to increase nectar plants
Oh Jan - that "bishop's children" dahlia is a stunner.
Donchaluv volunteers? They're the best. That's how I got my spiderwort and juncus.
jan
Wow, I've really gotten behind. Hard to keep up when you miss a couple of days.
Victor, I love the first pic of yours at the top of this thread.
Mrsj, I love your Bing Crosby rose. Nice! I used to live in Mesa. I lived there for 4 years, but didn't get the opportunity to do any gardening there. My dream is to move back to AZ one day, though not necessarily to the Valley of the Sun. Probably somewhere less populated and not so hot in summer. I really like Bisby a lot.
Karen
Here is a pic of mushrooms growing out of a stump in one of my gardens. They just popped up overnight. I love how mushrooms do that.
This is a garden I'm redoing. I'm moving DL's to this garden, where there were formerly iris, and the iris are going to the bed where the DL's were, which was basically dry, sandy soil. The DL's didn't like it there, and the iris were growing in soil that was too rich and moisture retentive for their liking. I think this will work out well for all concerned now, and everyone will be happy.
Karen
Looking good, Karen. Trading DL's for Iris! I like that phlox.
Jan - I love Bishops' Children too! They wintersow so well. I am going to try and save the tubers again - didn't have luck the last two times.
I picked up a Nora Leigh this year too... my yard is soooo depressing dahlia, glads, cockscomb, and love lies bledding are all down on the ground... oh yeah and don't forget the wimpy delph. that just started a second flush.. but that one is no surprise... the only ones standing are my snapdragons, peppers, straw flowers, mums and a few other annuals
I tried to stake some back up... and they are all too far gone and the ground is so mushy it's not even holding the stakes
I am pouting
Allison, but Saturday is coming and I will get to meet you, so that should turn your frown upside down. Boy, does that sound cheesy. If you are smiling now, it was worth it. lol I am bringing a few things, too.
I just love seeing everyone's gardens.
it did make me smile... the cheese was worth it
thanks
What a bummer, Allison. Sorry to hear that.
thanks... the dahlia had so many buds.... and I must have planted one set of glads in too shady of a spot... the greens came up... no blooms though... going to have to move it over some next year... I think my butterfly bush blocked it too much
live and learn ... that is what it's all about
I started taking my coleus cuttings yesterday... man I didn't even make a dent in all the ones I want to get to... taking today off to finish up HOPEFULLY
