I think zemerson is very unique :) the thing about web names that are unique is that you are recognized where ever you go (sometimes not a good thing lol)
How did you pick your name?
Zem, is Izaak pronounced "Eye-Zack" or more like Itzhak as in Itzhak Perlman?
I like Morning Glories, but I didn't want that. I'm usually on the computer in the morning (and the rest of the day, lol) and my "real" name is Gayle, so I just kinda combined them with a twist.
Everywhere else I'm either azureisle or skye.
mornin_gayle or mg
Gardenwife,
neither :) It's pronounced Eye-Zick. Like Isaac.
I am at a loss as to why the "z" and "k" change most people's ideas of pronounciation so dramatically :)

Fun thread - such nice people we have on DG.
I didn't start out with my present name but like it a lot better.
It is now March 19, 2006 and I see lots of people have added to the thread. I think the ones I like best are the really original ones that can be used in many places.

Zem - That's funny! I never thought of Isaac when I saw it.
My husband and I are both named Laverne. His is spelled differently but pronounced the same--hence the 2vernes. We are HeVerne and SheVerne when we add anything to the forums. Like to have never found a man to marry with the same name. Thirty three years ago my best friend Shirley (yeah, I know) was dating HeVernes best friend. He went to the airport and picked up HeVerne when he came back from Viet Nam and told him that he wanted him to meet me. Named the same as someone in their graduating class. Only 12 graduates, so he named everyone but himself. We've been married for 33 years now and we've managed fine with our like names. For sure tho, we didn't name our kids after us.
I don't recall just why I signed up with Indy....it's been a while. I used my real name on that "other" garden site and perhaps it was taken already here. Anyway Indy might stand for Indiana I suppose, but is more commonly used for Indianapolis. I don't live in the city though...just on the metropolitan edge.
Sorgiña ("sore -gin (hard G, not the spirit)-ya") is the Basque word for witch. My husband is Basque and I'm trying to learn the language -been trying for 18 years, LOL, and as I'm quite a witch myself it suits me. However it is really in memory of a very beautiful and naughty rescue kitten we had 3 years ago, who very sadly got run over at 8 months old. We now have another rescue kitten suitably named "Intxixu",("in-chee-shoo"), a hairy Basque demon, so I think I am slowly working my way through the list of Basque mythological creatures.(There are lots of them all with fascinating tales to go with them).
Maggi xxxx (The lack of an E at the end there is due to a 14 year old's desire to be original and different (!). I had no idea then that it was a brand of instant potato, soup etc!)

My oldest granddaughter helped pick my name. We wanted to use Dances in the Garden or Garden Dancer but those had either been taken or seemed too long. She finally said what about just Dancey. I agreed. I added Tx so people would know where I'm from and where I garden.

This is a fun thread to read, although I admit I have not yet read it all. As far as my name; I'm a bit embarrassed by the lack of creativity on my part. My dad was the gardener of the family when I was growing up and he always planted marigolds and petunias in his flower beds. When I think of him (he passed on in 98) and his flowers, I think of the marigolds and their bright yellows and oranges...such happy colors, thus "merry"gold. Maridell
My name is not as interesting as some of the others posted here, but it simply refers to my last name, Snow and the fact that I'm married and of German descent. Hence, frausnow, or mrs. snow in English.
DG's is the first place I've ever been able to use tgif because it is usually taken by someone that likes the universal meaning. But for me it has a different meaning. Ya see, my real name *is* Friday! So my tgif stands for "thank goodness I'm Friday".
ginni
NotMartha, I always get a chuckle when reading your name and remember to let myself off the hook for not being able to clone my own livestock from salvia. ;->
MzMunchken, I see we have being a driver in common, as well.
Congratulations on the 52 lbs, SoCal! I've been fortunate enough to drop 63 so far.
'Myself' -I love that one!!
----------------------------------------------------
My user name is so incredibly unimaginative.
By the time I signed up for Dave's I had been on the 'Net for quite some time. Since most of the places I dealt with were business type sites I went with a screen name that could be quickly associated with my 'real life' name so I used my first initial and my DH last name and 'dstartz' was born.
Over the years I've become so widely known by the name that, like gardenwife, I registered it as my URL.
There have been times I wish I had picked something more fun and even thought of asking Dave to change my username to the name I used when I was a clown..... but felt 'Dandelion' might not be the best name to use on a gardening web site. ;->

Mine is simple enough, I have 2 pug dogs. 1 male and 1 female. See I told you it was simple.
Loved reading about all the origins of names. Mine is kind of silly. I was so new to computers and Cinderfella (19 pound black cat, owner of the office desk) had been sooo helpful in the set up. Took me weeks to figure out how to get the whatever it was he put in there out from under the caps lock key. So when I discovered Dave's I had to be Cindermom and the key was stuck still sooo the rest is history. Gave you ever tried to type with 01111]=HELP FROM a cat? lol every time.

Cinder -I once worked with a cat that could type, too. One time I caught her on the keyboard and "spoke sharply" to her, she typed "oooooppppppsss" on her way off the desk! (true story, I swear!) If cats can rule us that way, then you have the perfect name.
Mine is because I grew up in a real life little house on the prairie that my grandfather built, in Markham, IL. The surrounding land was purchased by developers, but pressure was brought on them to declare it a national landmark and it was donated to the Nature Conservancy. It is now one of four Indian Boundary Prairies, Gensburg Prairie, named for the two brothers who purchased and donated the land. How fascinating! I'm going to go see that site right now.
As for me, it's just my initials. My name was already taken.
Nancy
prairiegirl, that is so interesting! I re-read the Little House books a few years ago and gleaned so much more from them than when I was a kid. It was fascinating to see it through Laura's eyes as an adult myself.
For me it was not very interesting just using my initials and after signing on and seeing all of your cute and interesting names you all had come with but it was too late to change it at that point. But if I could go back and do it again I wished I could have used something that said a little more to what I love to do which is "gardeneveryday"..

Cherish - I guess I should admit then that I've only seen some of the series on TV, never have read the books, maybe that would be a good winter project as I live across the street from a public library.
Mine came from a discussion with DH and a friend about gardening - I said I found this site (lurking on DG before I joined up) where people were saying they spent their grocery money on daylilies - gasp!
- my friend said the dog might not be too happy to see HIS portion of the grocery budget go for them, and DH scooped doggy up in his arms and said "we'd just feed the daylilies to Zeus!"
so that's where that came from but it was kind of unwieldy, so changed it to just 2zeus.
Cheryl
Prairiegirl, I highly recommend it. The tv shows usually weren't anything like the books. :-)
Hi Cindermom,
Could you please go to your post above and use the "Edit" under your name and delete or shorten all the "1's" you put into your post. It widens the thread on this page to make it VERY wide and hard to read. Thank you.
Donna
Sorry SoCal. Hope that makes it easier for you. The addition was due to Cinderfella leaning over and "helping" as I was typing the reply. Hated to edit his post but he is away from the desk just now and will never know. I won't tell if you won't tell.
I won't tell, I promise. It's good that you did it behind his back or he might post something later that you didn't want people to know about you. lol
Thank you, it's so much better now. :-)
Donna
Yes, that's much better! How did you know what the problem was Donna? (As you can see, I don't understand these computer thingies!)
sorgina, I've been around here for 5 yrs. and this has happened many times when someone has gotten really excited about something and they put lots of exclamation points after their message.
By the way, I'm not very computer literate either. lol
Donna
Its a good thing you didn't like the other one :-)
oh, i love that, too =))).
i recently learned how to e-bay, and moonglow wasn't available. quinmagenta came about.
LOL!!
lol. i know. very cheesy.
=)
wow, we can change our names? i have to think about that...annapet doesn't sound so bad.
This is fun! I have two change of names-- my given name (for real) and my user name here.
When my Mom and Dad named me, they thought I was I was last one they would have, and named me after him and her. Ollie for Oliver and Mae for her middle hame. People and kids abused my name all my life. I was Olive Oil. Oley, OOOlie, etc. When I was in my Senior year in high school and I was on a date with my boyfriend in January, he said he hated my name. I said I did too. It was his birthday that day and he said in honor of his birthday, he was going to call me Jan for January from that day on. It stuck. BTW, I wasn't the last kid they had. They had three more after me.
As for Pollyanna, I have no idea where that came from.
When I was in my early 30's I changed it legally and now have a new birth certificate, Social Security card, I failed to give myself a middle name (didn't even think about it) and people look at me funny when I say I don't have one.

Jan, don't worry about no middle name - Cinderfella doesn't have one either. Even though I do I am not going to tell you what it is. Just tell everybody that you are sooo Jan that you don't need another name. Besides, anyone born in January (me too) doesn't have to explain anything to anybody. We got here at the begining of the calendar and that's the way it is!
I use to be kathys999, left over from my AOL days.
I recently had it changed to IsThisHeaven. The line is from the movie, "Field of Dreams" which is my favorite baseball movie of all time.
"Is This Heaven?" No, its Iowa. :)
If you change your User name, how does the DG population know you did?
in kathy's case, she's the only one i know from fenton, mo - - - and we're "peony buddies" subscribing to same threads. to make sure, i looked her up on the address exchange =))).
kathy, "divorcing" aol was a tough one for me. of course i was annapet there. these days, there are "other" annapets out there. and my mom thought i was unique. lol.
