How did you pick your name?

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

My dogs name is Chance, but her nickname is Cheeto. She seems to like it lol

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

- I used my real first name and maiden last initial, to slightly hide, not being so sure I wanted to be easily IDed... I chose this partly for shortness because... When my husband set up our first family email, he asked me for a name , and being smartmouthed, the first thing I thought of was The Magnificent Seven, only we are five so it was magnificent5, he did it before I could say, wait, I really want _________. After twelve yrs, he still wasn't too quick onwhen I was being flip or serious...Later I saw the value in having a real name in my email and repented.
then there was a song ~~sally-hee sally g, ~~and Eric Clapton wrote about me, and Robert Palmer sang about me......and the classic Mustang Sally...Excuse me, I have to go thank my mother for a fun name!!

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

Love, love, love reading all the stories!!! What a hoot!!! You all are soooo creative!
Alas, I am not. ....Must have run out of my creative juices the day I signed up on DG - I went for the obvious. You guessed it. My name is Glenda and I live in Michigan. Duh!! How boring. What was I thinking??????? Oh well, C'est la vie! ....At least Marilyn_TX is keeping me company. lol ;)

PS:
Dave, if you're still reading this, THANK YOU!!! This is an outstanding website! Can't tell you how sweet and helpful everyone has been on DG and how much fun I've had since signing up! I'm giving you a BIG standing ovation!!!! Bravo!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

Took my name from where I live; the Sacramento Valley (CA).
Fun reading through the posts.

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

And I get homesick everytime I see "SacValley" 'cause that's where I moved from 2yrs ago.....Elk Grove, actually.
I picked Depsi because growing up in Minot North Dakota in a large german family all my aunts called me Depsi rather than Debbie. It's a name which is a link to a time when I was a little girl standing in awe in my Grama's kitchen watching all my aunts cooking, canning, playing cards, laughing, gossiping, hugging any kid that got close enough and wanting to be just like them when I grew up. I still wear an old fashioned apron to this day and there is nothing better in my world than a gathering of family or friends. Deb

Denver Metro Area, CO(Zone 5a)

Like idit, I wanted bloominidiot (which I do use on another site)...but it didn't work for me, here. My oldest daughter calls me, "Mama," and it makes me think of John Denver's song (Take me Home, Country Roads) where he sings of Mountain Mama. Here we are in Denver and if it's good enough for John Denver to have taken his name from this place, I guess it isn't a huge step to become Mtnmama, right? Sort of a circuitous way to say "Denver" via John's having authored the song. (And we're not too far from the mountains, so it works both ways;) In real life, I'm Diane.

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

My mother-in-law always called us "kids" "You Posy"or" You Blossom" depending how discusted she was by our way of thinking or acting at the time. For some reason when I found my way to Dave's Garden, I could almost hear her voice saying that again. She died in the early 80s and this is my way of paying tribute to a grand old lady and a reminder to behave myself when I visit here.........but as for the rest of the time;-))))),hmmmmmmmm.

In real Life, I'm Lucille.

(Zone 7a)

That is so wonderful to pay tribute that way.

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Kwanjin. I'm trying to read all the great and small stories here. I am up to the year 2003. I'll probably be on this fantastic thread for at least a year, but I intend to read every single one.

(Zone 7a)

Be sure to have someone available to bring you food and water!!! LOL

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

ROTFL. I really need extra supplies because I have DIAL UP! Bummer! I wish they had a separate thread for each year. Sometimes I can't even get it to load at all, just a pitiful white screen to torment ME!.

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Kwanjin, I just found you because I started going backwards this morning. "Person Seeking Enlightment." The Chinese Culture is so advanced, I don't think other Cultures will ever catch up. I feel "Enlightened" now when I see your name:)

(Zone 7a)

Thank you! I was hoping to get that enlightenment for myself. Sometimes I wonder.

morehead, KY(Zone 6a)

Hello!
I started out as Goodwilly due to the fact i was a manager for a goodwill donation retail store and back in the day there was a character created by disney for Goodwill called Goodwilly. Well after getting a lot of good ribbing from other members about other meaning for "goodwilly" if you catch my meaning. I requested a change of ID which Terry and Dave granted due to my story. I am now called daylilydaddy because i have never seen a daylily i have not loved!
George

(Zone 7a)

That's a good reason to change it. lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello all!
My garden is my escape. Hence 'heavenscape'.
Jayesri brings me back to reality! ;)

Verona, ON

Oh my goodness George you made me laugh sooooo hard. I taught in a school where the Principal would come on to do the am announcements. For years he would say it was "Chilly for Willy" outside today and had NO idea what he was saying. Your story really made me chuckle
Dianne
Ooops I forgot Welcome to DG the best site ever

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

I still have the byline tacked to my bulletin board off an article from the Sacramento Bee by "Willie the Warrior"......it was a sports article plenty years back.....Deb

When I joined a year ago August, i chose a name that meant nothing so no one would know who I was. I got tired of being called Betty and one day Plantladylin started calling me gessiegail as I had just discovered the gesneriad family of plants. It stuck and I asked to have my name changed!

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

When I started on Daves at the end of August, I was reallllly green. I picked up my first plant 2 months before, my VERY FIRST plant, at 34. I wanted Greengardener, but it was taken. I decided Pupil would be good. What to go with that? Well, I also discovered the wonderful world of propagation, as I am a mad scientist. Like many others, I mispelled propogation. Of course, PupilPropogation was too long. Hmmm.....Propogator? Nope, to long, by two letters. Not to give the Florida fans any ammo for intelligence, but they abbreviate Gator to gtr. Ergo, Pupilpropogtr was born, mispelled and all! I wouldn't change it for the world, as I will always be reminded, you will never know it all. Real name is Traci, Traci Joe, Lil T, Tiny, Teensy's Mom, and Mommie, the last is my favorite.

Willow Springs, MO(Zone 6b)

I love the name stories!!! I became tashasmam on October 14, 2002, the day my first grandchild was born, instead of being Gramma, I am Mammy hence tashasmam. My real name is Pam.

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

My,but this an entertaining and facinating thread!!!!!

Syracuse, NY

I kept picking names for sites and got tired of being told "that name is taken." Checochinican was my 5th great grandfather, a Lenape chief. I figured that name would not be used by anyone else, and I was right.

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

Checochinican,
Is Lenape a Native American tribe? My Aunt & cousins are all members of the Klamath Indian tribe. My husband and I live on the Nez Perce Reservation here in Idaho and I'm originally from North Dakota which has a large population of Mandan & Souix + others I can't think of right off the bat. It's nice to know your name and where it is from....whenever I see it I will think of your heritage....Deb

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Checochinican,
your grandad's name sounds so dignified. It has a nice roll on my tongue when pronounced.

Fun reading the background to everyone's name. I've found things easier if I act/speak like a hick or redneck and then people have less expectations of me. I often follow a sentence with a snort or a laugh like Krusty the Clown or a good old Canadian "eh?" to set the tone. Id'a be gooder that way. Talkin' plants, I'm growin' this and growin' that. If someone's persistent, I start the latin ramble which typically ends in the person's eyes glazed over and I walk away.

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok I'm glazed over. eh?

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Growin, ROTFL!!!

(Cathy), MO

Just found this thread. I wasn't very creative with mine. I just stumbled into Daves Garden and found I needed to create an ID. Couldn't think of anything off the top of my head so I just used part of an old email address. Cat short for Cathy, and the zip code where I lived at the time.

Winnetka, IL

Hello. My name is Meegan, and I'm a plantaholic.

Beautiful, BC(Zone 8b)

Hi everyone,
I enjoyed reading about your names.
My real name is Teresa, but everyone calls me Terri. I love art and gardening and found out that Terriculture means
working the land. I think it suits me!

Saint Paul, MN(Zone 4a)

INTERESTING names! I'm "MuddyLou" for my late beloved and sadly missed bouvier des flandres dog, Muddy Waters (named for the fabulous and also sadly missed blues maestro). He was a huge boy - 110 lbs in his prime. Sweet as could be, unless you happened to be a tall unknown male (short ones did fine). I had tons of nicknames for Mr. Waters, but usually called him "Muddy Lou", for no particular reason. ; )

We now have a lovely young spinone italiano (hey it's my husband that finds these odd breeds....) named "Mojo". He savages my gardens (as did Mr. MuddyLou). Good reason to hit the nurseries!

Saint Paul, MN(Zone 4a)

Geeeeez forgot to say: real name = Susan!

Joshua Tree, CA(Zone 8b)

Anyone of you still with us ?
