How did you pick your name?
Dyson, It was a big brick home...with gardens...coming from Rocky Mount it was on the right...just before you crested the hilll to go down to the bridge. He traveled a lot and she kept a B & B...beautiful old home. It may be that she got tired of doing that.
At the time we were coming up from Va. Beach to look at property there was no where to stay at the lake overnight...just the motel in Rocky Mount...so the B & B worked out well. Jo
Jo, I work in Rocky Mount, and can think of only one B&B there - haven't been by it in awhile, can only assume it is still open. However there is a motel at this end of the lake, never stayed there either, right around the corner from the house. I'm on the north end of the Lake and right now I have to go to the south end too work on a puter - take care
Well my name is a dedication to my mother. Her name is Rosemary. She died in 1991 from breast cancer. The 318 is my birthdate.

When I first tried to sign on to DG I tried to use what I use everywhere else on the net: "spiritfilledfamily", but it was too long. I had only signed up for 2 months thinking I wouldn't renew cause I just wanted one question answered so I just used my initials......weeeelllllll.....I got hooked and now people know me by "mgh" so I figured why change? I had been feeling like I lost my individuality over the last few years anyway so "mgh" makes me more of an individual than "spiritfilledfamily."
Thanks for the great thread!
Mendy
First of all I wanted my real name but for some reason it was not working, some one, I was told, had it previouly though I have never seen one with my name. Than I decided to have my name spelled back wards that did not go over big. either , finally I decided to eliminate the first letter, that was OK until a member thought I must be an opera singer which I am not but would not mind having a talent such as singing arias, LOL but I truly wish I had my true name in DG.

Looks like there was a Maria who signed up in 2001, when the site was new. She never started any threads, but she's got squatter's rights to the name, unfortunately: http://davesgarden.com/members/Maria/
I think I started using Gardenwife before DG, but I'm not sure. I signed Howie up as Gardenhubby, but he changed it, LOL. ;)
Gardenhubby, thats so funny, Kimberley but very suitable. Perhaps he would have liked Gardenhusband? Yes, I was sorry too that my name had already been used especially when it is not used as we do, Right?
I think this is why I sign my name every time I post.

I loved reading this long thread/novella. It has taken all evening! I don't know how I missed it! Thanks everyone for the entertainment!

Jennifer,
You're not just another Jennifer, you're JenniferG!
Smilen, :))) Thanks!

Riker as in Star Trek .....once upon a time I looked like Riker and worked at Paramount part time.
Bear as in 'big furry, cuddly type'..."Bear of a man"
That is how RikerBear was born.............................
Inanda. When I first went on line, was told, NEVER let anyone know anything personal about you - gender, address etc. I knew that any friends seeing this name would know it was us. Inanda more or less means happiness in Urdu, was the name of our farm, our kennel name, company name and now being carried on by a son the photographer who runs Inanda Images.
Cheers Inanda - a district in JHB where my ex grew up.
Mine is where I've lived all my life, the Sacramento Valley; (Ca). Real name Jo
Don't remember how I came across Dave Garden, but sure have enjoyed the helpful and light hearted group. Dave's reading is now part of my day.
This thread just keeps coming back and I love it. It's so great to hear all the new folks tell how you got your names. It's a trip down memory lane to sit and read all these. There are parts 2 , 3 and I even started a part 4 if you haven't checked those out yet. Keep them coming I love to see why everybody picked their name.
This thread is great.. Nice to read all about everyone. I love Egyptian Goddesses, I paint them and read about them. The one I like the best is Maat or sometimes spelled Maati. She is the truth goddess. The ancient Egyptians believed that when a person dies there deeds go before the gods. Maati wears a feather on her head. If a persons evil (sins) weighs more than the feather of Maat then they cannot enter the hereafter. She was reveared for being truthful, honest and fair. I would like to be thought of not as a goddess, but as being truthful, honest and fair. That is why I use the name MsMaati. My real name is Yvonne - meaning the archer- born in Dec. and Sagitarian. Lucky coincidence.
Wow. These are beautiful names. As a person who has been told he is very artistic (Art Major...) I feel I've betrayed some creative muse.
But, An aspiring writer friend of mine was thinking of using a first initial, followed by her middle and last names as her pen name. I fancied that, and so under her influence I signed letters to her;
K. James Seth
as a joke and a little in honor of her idea, at which I realized how tired I was of folks screwing up my first name: One fellow I knew called me everything but my real name each time I saw him:
Ken, Kenny, Kenneth, Clint, Clen, Clinny (eh?) and worst of all, Clinton.
I never told him I was Kenton.
James; nobody is confused. And Colorado is such a place to live. (The west side, I mean; as the front range/east slope Should be considerd part of Kansas. Fancy Denver being our capital not-so-near mountains! Huf! Flatlanders!
I'd like to state a little praise to DAVE'S GARDEN! The best garden hub anywhere.
Reason for living here:
As they say on the commercial...
PRICELESS!
Wow! What is that? I can't tell if it's a sand dune or a mountain. It's really white.
Cherishlife... having lived in Colorado all my life, I'll say that that's probablly a tough call. If it's a sand dune, it's part of the San Isabel range in Southern Colorado... otherwise, it's Rocky and snowy :) It looks like someplace further south to me, you don't see those plateaus really up here in the northern part of the state... I'd say this is somewhere between Castle Rock and Salida ... not too helpful, huh? :) lol
I've been sarahjo80 since 1995 when I first claimed it on Yahoo. I don't know what possessed me to have such presence of mind at 15 years old to consider it so carefully! But I wanted to use my name "Sarah Jo" because I really like it... and that was taken, so I wanted to add a number. I knew I wouldn't be 15 forever, so I used the year of my birth... thus, Sarahjo80. :)
There is another chick trying to use it now... she beat me to eBay, and a few other places, but overall, I'm *the real* sarahjo80 ;) lol, I'm sure she says the same thing! LOL :)
Way back in the beginning I used "Jo" on ICQ... then some other chick came and started using "Jo" so I started calling myself "TheREALJo"... hehehe, I'm a naughty li'l devil :) I still kinda miss that, and would love to be just "Jo" again. But I'm Sarahjo80 at so many places, it'd be too confusing to change. :)
As I said, I don't know what possessed me to pick such a versatile name.. I can move, marry or age and my name will still make sense! :)
Sarah
wysteria...the flower is gorgeous....have been 'purple' freak since forever....and is also one of my fave dan fogelberg songs...[me n dan both use the..'y'....much purdier donchathink?]
I picked hairgirl5 because I am a hairstylist and 5 is my lucky #, not to original but I like it.
My real name is Melinda that is if my mom is calling me but for the most part I go by Mindy.
CARAT ~ Well when we first signed on to the internet I was told never use my real name so I sat and thought up about 100 names and they were all taken. My husband has called me 24K as a nickname for years because I always seem to be able to pick out the most expensive item in a room. Also it was a couple days after our anniversary and a card was sitting in front of me. So I stole the wording and used the initials.
C A R A T = Casey and Roger always together...
I use CARAT414 on AOL and yahoo and the numbers stand for 4- for 14 years which is what anniversary that was...
Casey
Recently I've had several people ask me how I came about my user name and when I saw this thread I figured I'd post again. I'm sure I added it when I joined DG, but read through and didn't see it soooo here ya go!
IO1 stands for
I as in me
O as in Owe
1 as in God ... the only one! :)
... Elaine
Elaine, I think you posted that to us in the coffee room before breakfast. You only had a couple sips at that time so its understandable to get the threads wrong.
I just love your name.....
JamesCo's beautiful scene .. he'd stated; is near where he lives. I'd venture to say .. maybe a part of the Colorado National Monument, perhaps. Nearer to Utah .. west of Grand Junction. Maybe he'll come back here and 'cure' our curiosity !! (hee)
Elaine, there are actually 4 threads on this subject - this is just the first one so you may have posted on part two, part three or part four. LOL
There was a TV series called Anne of Avon Lea that had a character named JasperDale who st st sst ssttutterred...As a kid I also stuttered. When the show came out my sister started calling me JasperDale. I adopted a cat from a shelter who stutters when he "talks"...he has the same name. As I was trying to come up with a user name that wasn't taken yet, the cat sat there and stuttered at me for 45 minutes...so I just picked it out of frustration!
My real name is Mike.
I don't stutter anymore..got over it very early...and no, I fortunately am not scarred by the experience!!!
Great names on this site.!!!! My favorite is Notmartha !!!! VERY CLEVER !!!!
Ha! That mountain is Mt. Garfield. It is made up of a hard rock platform on top of crumbling shale; about 6500 elevation. It is part of the Roan plateau ( "Book Cliffs") that runs into Utah. It's a nice little hike with a big view. Here is where Utah's desert mountains meet Colorado's alpine snowcapped guys.
The picture is looking North. Colorado National monument is red-colored, (to the Southwest) and it looks like it was stolen directly from a scene in which Wile E. Coyote is chasing the roadrunner. I may post a panorama from my roof in the pictures forum.
SaraJo, No offense about Kansas! In that line of thinking, I ought to be considered in Utah!
And I think "Magpye" has such a nice ring to it...
.. Ahhh, JamesCO .. many thanks for the quick 'cure' .. and for getting me straight about the locale! Some mitey beautiful scenery .. you are so blessed to behold and partake, from your 'yardens' .. (hee)
Montrose .. was one of the three specific areas that we had given serious consideration of retiring to, back in '95. But, in retrospect .. it's a good thing we refrained from moving that far north: for the ol Coot would not have been able to 'handle' the winters. Heck, he can barely handle the cold and the snow, that we (slap-my-pappy: 'settled') for, here .. in NW Arkansas.
.. LOL ..
Plum sweet lil gesture too, JamesCo .. ((huggerooners to ya))
- Magpye
My brother dealt in arrowheads and other indian artifacts, and he raised rottweilers. His "arrowhead" name was dogman, and I'm his sis, hence, dogmansis. I lost my brother rather tragically in Nov of '01...what a horrible year that was. But my brother is still with me, in spite of everything...real name Debbie.
I love how this thread keeps coming back after all this time. It's such a fun thread and so nice to get to know something about everybody. So many new folks have jumped in, nice to meet ya'll and I love your names. Debbie I am sorry about your brother but I too believe he is still with you.
My name is Elaine and I love south Georgia. Have a white bobtailed cat called Kami. Needed more letters for the user name so decided Kamikid would be it. This is a great thread to read about all the names. This is a wonderful site just to sit and spend an evening reading in all the forums
My initials followed by the name of the small town I live in in NC. Not very original but hey it works. LOL, Oh and the G it stands for Gary
I always called my son Mr Magoo or baby Bu so when in need of a name here I just combined them! Boring I know but that is how I did it LOL
Anne
Mine seems kinda silly now. Orginally it was msjen, and everyone thought it was miss jen, so i had dave change it to MSJen, for my home state of Mississippi.
Now i've relocated to Ny, so i guess now it *really* does mean Miss Jen, lol.
No matter, if it was ever changed (which it wont because you can only have 1 change) i'll always be MSJen
I wonder if i was really nice, and sweet talked if i could convince them to put an *at heart* after MSJen or *always* before ??
mine is a long twisted story of what too much alcohol and time can do to a bunch of teenages back in the 80's LOL
My middle name is Ruth (barf barf gag gag... could have been worse, it was almost Pearl) and I had a lisp in grade school due to falling out of a tree and knocking all 4 of my front top teeth out. I grew up in a very small community, and I hung with the same group of people practically all the time I was growing up. One sad, drunk night, I believe I let out a rather large burp (beer does that you know LOL) and some one in the group started calling me "No Couth Ruth" which was very funny in the inebriated state we were in. During the course of a few more nights that alcohol was the primary food source, it evolved to Woofens. When I got online, I was able to get it as my user name everywhere I signed up. It was unique, and something that I had been called for years by family and friends. Strange, but true :)
My real name is Janis (after Janis Joplin) the name Pearl was considered for my middle name because that was the name of the album Janis Joplin had out at the time I was born. Thank goodness my mom decided against that LOL
Janis
Janis, and here I thought it had to do with dogs. I think your story's more colorful, though. ;)
LOL GW thanks :) its amazing the things teens can come up with when exposed to too much alcohol and not near enough parental supervison!!
LOL, Janis, Now I feel all simple :)
My real name is Izaak, people call me Zack (because very few people can say "Izaak" right on the first try). My middle name is Emerson so.... Z. Emerson became zemerson.
