Crossville, TN

O.K., O.K. here is the scope, and as you probably guessed I love zinnias! I grow tons of them, mostly the tall ones. Last summer there were 5 rows 4 feet apart and when they were mature there was just room to walk down the rows. all colors and all varieties. If anyone wants lots of seeds I'm your gal. Oh yes I am a retired nurse RN and loving retirement.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Im not very imaginative either. My name came from one of my favorite Marrion Zimmer Bradley short stories. I used that after several of my own thoughts were already taken.
A Dravencat is(in the story) a very large puma like cat, highly inteligent(talk about false advertising),protective of all cubs and is telepathic with its own kind and can communicate some with young humans as they havnt learned to be so skeptical yet.
My real name is Janet but never Jackson. I dont think Im nasty but my kids think Im crazy when I start dancing in the mall to the music on the intercoms.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Janet I luv to sing n dance to the music in stores!!! I dont care who is around! lol
I luv that sign that says "sing like no ones listening or dance like no ones watching"

Good morning, how on earth did I miss this thread? It is wonderful and unique! I'm one of the rosenuts on board here, Roselaine. When I first joined Daves, I was given a number...I didn't really care until I zoomed in here and noticed all the super nomers. But, our Dave, thankyou Sir, allowed Roselaine. I frequent many of the forums here. Couldn't be without my daily or three dailys. Elaine is my real name....although I am called Ramblin' Rose, rambler and others!!!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh boy I can picture Dori and me singing and dancin in the mall and all the other people getting out of the way of the two looneys waltzing and boogyin past the stores.

Flower Mound, TX(Zone 7b)

I chose my name for my email account to use for my business - I'm a hairdresser so I was trying to think of something to tie that into the name and went with shear(as in scissors) Pamela (my name) Not very creative and afterward I thought it might sound more like shear/sheer as in see through, and be taken the wrong way. I guess it will do, but sometimes I wish I could change it and think of something more fun and original...Maybe you all could come up with something better ;) I'm still finding my way around this site as a newbie, and it is lots of fun. I'm 40, and just put my first garden in last Fall. We took all our grass out, added compost and expanded shale and planted all late Summer and Fall until the nurseries quit stocking the plants. About 1000 sq feet or so of planting space. I'm both terrified and excited - I've been an armchair gardener for years, and finally just dove in head first and did it all at once with almost no idea what I'm in for...All the pruning, dividing, dead heading and fertilizing....But - I'm so excited to see how it looks this Spring and Summer! I will learn as I go, and hopefully will have all of you to help with through the bumpy spots! Our house backs up to a pond, so we have lots of wildlife visitors. I wanted a bird and butterfly sanctuary, and put in native or adapted Texas perennials to attract them. This site has been a huge bonus and will come in handy when questions or crisis pop up...I have not posted any photo's yet but will try to soon :)

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

My granny called me Honey Girl. Every time I see the name in print it takes me home again.

Limerick, PA(Zone 6b)

Well, my first name is Dave and that was taken fairly early. My last name is Ewald, which is a first name in German (and my "German name" for my old High School German class). I try to keep it simple-so I won't forget.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

From all the "newbies", thanks for the bump JO. This is better than Biography Chanel! I have had many names, Patsy (family), Pat (High School/College), Patti (only Yankee friends ever called me that). But never my birth name, Patricia, which I loved. So....when I got my first job I became Patricia (Yay!) Choosing a name was difficult because every variation of Patricia was taken. So....I just chose Pati with my last name and have learned to love it because of all the friends here on DG.

PS: I'm waiting for the story SHOE!!!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow a blast from the past. So glad to see some new names added. Zen I bet all the zinnias are beautiful. Dravencat and Dori It sure sounds like it would be fun to go shopping with you.

Oh my goodness, ya'll ain't right. It ain't THAT big of a deal! (and I still declare I may have posted it somewhere...sure it ain't in this thread somewhere? Gonna make me read back up?)

As for my "real" name, which I seldom use anymore, it's R...R...R..
dang, SO hard to say it! My own Ma calls me 'Shoe, a few locals call me R...R...Re.....(dang, STILL have a time trying to pronounce that name!). When I'm in trubble, my wife calls me R...R...RRRR...
dagnabbit still have a hard time with dat word! Mush be a psycological thang. ;>)

Now, as for "Horseshoe"? Or "Shoe"? Ta-dah ♫ See how easy that just rolls off the tongue?

Edited for spelling...even tho I STILL tried the R word again! (Dave's new spell-checker just showed an icon of someone scratching their head, confused-lookin'.)

There once was a man named SHOE,
Who when asked his real name turned blue!
He just gave us the RRR's, now isn't that cool
but so stubborn, not HORSE, but a SHOE for a MULE!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAHAHAHHAH! Very good, Pati!

(I actually have a mule on the door to the shoffice, with my name painted on it! How'd you know?!)

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Shoe don't make me come down there and hang out at your post office!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

wonderful thread. After reading the entries and seeing Hoseshoe,Gardenwife,Kooger,Marclay and the others so often it is nice to see where the monikers come from.I'm just plain Balvenie17.Balvenie being one of Scotland's gifts to the world,a Single Malt whiskey, and 17 being a 17 year old batch. In reality,if there is still such a thing,I'm robert.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I posted to this thread when it first started... and Darius really is my legal first name.

Now, however, I'm thinking to change it here... so many people assume I am male... but I'm definitely NOT! (Look at my Member page for my photo!) http://davesgarden.com/members/darius/

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

no, No, NO. Darius IS your name. I'm sure we would all miss it if it disappeared from the list. (Especially from the Recipe Forum)

Verona, ON

For those of you that have got to know me a little bit here on DG you already know I'm a gal not a guy. But, the night I officially registered here on DG my husband was in hospital in complete Renal failure. Due to the outbreak of Sars here in Canada at that time I was not allowed to stay at the hospital even though it looked like my DH might not survive and I was going to be a very young widow. When I got home from the hospital that night I went to the computer and joined Dave's as everyone seemed so kind, wise and tolerant when they posted. Since my DH and I have no family for miles around ,I needed to be near something that I felt was warm and supportive. The members on this site are unbelievably wonderful and supportive. I too am now a DG addict. D

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Wow.. This is a long thread. My name kind of speaks for itself. what can I say? I just love bugs. Each and every one of them. Well, with the exception of mosquitoes. They really get in the way of gardening.

Whitewater, WI

I love Daturas & Brugmansias. So when it came to a name, it just kinda popped up. I'm not sure exactly what I was thinking. lol

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It's so good to see this thread again, along with newer members' posts! My hubby Howie's name here is...Howie. No one had it yet, so that's what he grabbed!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

hmmmmmmm - I didn't pick my name. My mom did! I thought about changing it (for Dave's) but since I use karrie20x for my email, why not use it for alot of things. It's easy for me to remember that way.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I was surfing the net and looking for info on a plant one day and found Dave's. I saw that it was free and decided to sign up and see what it was like. I just used the signin name from work( I dispatch dump trucks ) and ever since have wished that I had used some clever nick like ya'll did. My garden is named Chaos and that describes it beautifully and that is what I should have used. Lou

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Lou, I heard you could change your name one time, but not sure - you'd have to ask Dave. But since we all know you as dispatcher, why not keep it?

San Francisco, CA(Zone 10a)

eje is/are my initials, and has been my preferred "aka" on the internet for ages. I have always thought those three letters looked cool in lower case. It is usually taken whenever I sign up somewhere new and I have to add extra letters; but, I lucked out here!

Erik

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Well, at the time I subscribed, we were over run with baby treefroggies. After running through several already-chosen names, I decided that the fates were trying to tell me something as the foggies continues to croak outside my window. Frogsrus I became.

My treefroggies live in my garden year round so I am hoping the powers that be accept me as a "habitat" for frog call counting. It is easier (and much more pleasant) to sit on my patio with coffee or an adult beverage and count calls that it is to scramble down the hill to the creek.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

I posted this somewhere - these bump ups have kinda gotten overlapped and confusing for lil' ole me. My DG name is my maiden name. With a last name like mine, (Feucht), at times pronounced somewhat profanely by telemarketers that get hung up on promptly -now honestly, don't you think they could figure out it wouldn't be pronounced that way? - I don't use it a lot for on line things. I always liked my maiden name - so do our kids, they use it more and more for the same reason stated above! I'm Dutch but DH is German - to pronounce it in German or Dutch you would do the gutteral, throat clearing noise (euch) with a t at the end. Means damp in both languages. We have gotten lazy and just rhyme it with bike now. MIL still says Fikt.

Read on the net that some Feuchts have changed it to reflect more closely the pronunciation and now are Foyts, as in A.J. Now, I have no clue if he is related, actually don't really care if he is related, just repeating what I read. :)

My brother found a book that has the families of Texel (largest island off the coast of the Netherlands) listed back hundreds of years. He found our dad's family back to 1630. Isn't that neat? Our original last name was Stoelmatter or caner of chairs. This couple had 2 boys who were orphaned at 6 and 8 yrs. old. They were from De Koog, on the western side of the island. They were sent to an orphanage in Den Burg, the largest town where over time, they were known as the boys from De Koog because of their long last name. Eventually they became Koogers and that's how it came to be! Now, wake up everybody, the story's over!! :)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Cool! What a nice bit of history! Very interesting!

Thanks Kooger!

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Shoe. I think it's neat! There's a Koogerveld (field), Koogerweg (way, road) and Koogerstraat (street) on the island today. Don't tell anyone but there's also a Koogerweg sign on a certain house in Edmonton that used to be across the pond!! :) Dad 'bout had a cow when he found out!!!!! He was NOT amused but the rest of us had a chuckle over it. :)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow more new ones . Welcome everybody.Kooger what a great piece of history. Horseshoe I think you still owe us a story. We got the famous R name but we really want to get the story behind horseshoe.(I think I will find a nice place to hide now) lol

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

You'd be surprised to find out that Shoe picked my DG name here, based on our farm name. I have another name on here I never use because I am just a subscriber and not a member (or do i have that backwards) but my other name is farminggrandma, which describes me to a T. I did that about 3 years ago at Shoe's suggestion and I don't think he realized that I had that name on here. Not a problem. I like being called Misty :)

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

I wanted to be Sugar on the CB way back but someone else was using it. I tried to get it in a chat room.. well I had to be Sugar5. Then later in a brand new chat room I was able to get just Sugar. In Dave's I don't know if Sugar was taken as I decided to add where I now live (FL) but just call me Sugar :)
My real name is Darlene.. our last name is also German & pronounced many ways.. Bade (which is correct).. Bod .. & my favorite Bad but we are double bad "Baad" I remember last year when I was getting some tomato seeds from someone he asked me was I one of the "sweet bad girls".. Told him not only was I bad but double "baad". I think the whole Baad family have fun with this name. It has been my name almost 4 years now.

Dyson is my real name, and no one had it on here .... I was finally abe to use my real name for sign on - a trip to be sure - old family name - long story - Dyson

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Well, I always used Par8head32 (love Jimmy Buffett and my husband's favorite number is 32) as my login but one time it was already taken so I had to come up with something for me. So 'Gardengirl' (for obvious reasons) just flowed. I had to add my birthdate (Dec 4th) to make it unique so this is the name I use for all of my logins.

Dyson - I love Smith Mountain Lake! We go up a couple times a year and take in a cabin on the lake. Always get our boats from James at Saunders Marina.

Crossville, TN

Hello Dyson...I used to own a Mobile Home Park on the lake at Penhook....Do they still have that beautiful old home that is a B & B up on the hill on the Franklin County (Moonshine capital of the world...LOL) side? I stayed there when we were looking for property...loved it. Jo

Rocky Mount, VA(Zone 7a)

It never fails to amaze me how small our world really is. - Good folks that know this area (probably better than I do) liveing half way across the country & also in Richmond.
I have lived here since 1996 before that - Florida, Maryland, Alaska, New York (upstate),
New Jersey, Japan, New York (city), Virginia (near the coast), Michigan (Dearborn & Walled Lake) & Virginia. I can't answer the question about the B&B without a name for it (sorry Jo).
I am on the Franklin County side of the lake & yes it is still the moonshine capital of the world.

(Zone 7a)

Kim was given at birth and Gaither for marriage...Should I change it?...LOL LOL LOL How about the SeedQueen??? LMAO

Bensenville, IL(Zone 5a)

Well when we first got a home computer we decided to keep it simple, so my husbands name is Tom and I'm Den short for Denise.
