How did you pick your name?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Welcome to DG, Joule!

Hillsburgh, ON(Zone 5a)

My real name is Laurel. I chose Luckygardnr because I enjoy working on my backyard, and find myself lucky to be able to spend as much time as I want in it. So whether I want to putter, or to just sit in my Skychair and enjoy the view, or join DH on the deck for a glass of wine before dinner, I am one lucky gardener.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

great name......... and welcome to DG!

I was the disciplinarian in the family so when my son became a teenager he started to call me Mao for Chairman Mao. Fast forward a few years and he sets up my first computer and opens an e-mail account using Mao Tse Mom. Its easier to remember just one name and it's original enough I haven't found it taken before me. BTW my son is now 30 but he still calls me Mao instead of Mom. What can I say but that he inherited his sense of humor from me.

Mao - that cracks me up! How funny!

Mystic, CT(Zone 6b)

That's a riot!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

It took all night, but I read through about 5 years of post on this thread! It is so great to hear how some of the names came together. Mine is my name, Sheila; and FW is for the town I live in.
I did have hsfrank2005 when I joined last year, which was initials of my DH, and myself with part of the last name. I didn't like being refered to as hs, or frank, and let's face it I was dreaming to think my DH was going to sign on. He is good about helping with stones, ponds, photos and beds; but holds little interest in plants. So I wanted to be me. There is another Sheila in TX, so that is why I included Fort Worth.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm pretty much Bigcity, my email is bigcityal2000, so on the web I'm bigcityal. Like any decent nickname I didn't give it to myself.

Here I am... in love with flowers and my garden. My happiest day is the one with dirt under my fingernails and a newly dug or re-dug flowerbed. Hopefully I'm a lady, so I tried FlowerLady, but of course, someone else already had that name.

I hate mis-spelled words, but I --STILL-- wanted to be FlowerLady, so, I just put in FlowrLady. I think everybody get's the gist of it, anyway. Isn't that fascinating?

Woops! I forgot!! My name is Pat :)

I too did not use my imagination. But I have been ladywicks on some sites. Wicks is the middle name of my g-grandfather; that I have not found where he got the name from in my searching. But I like the sound of Ladywicks..

My wife and I have been known as Frog & Butterfly for quite some time. Frog came from my "green thumb", sky diving and scuba diving. The name stuck with me thru out the years. After I found my soulmate, both our lives changed for the better; hers being more dramatic; so much that when she finally saw she could be herself (previously undiscovered) that she changed her middle name legally to Butterfly, that being a form of being reborn. Together we bought the property which is now known as The Great Pond Circle and what better for a name used in many places, such as the DG website and our plant and pond infested property as Frogbutterfly. Check out the photo below. The tatoos are real, our love for each other is real, life is real. So too are Frogbutterfly :) :)

What a nice story. I love happy endings.

You are the frog who is now her Prince and she is the butterfly everyone yearns to be as free as.

Hah, this thread is revived once again and for a good reason. It' like watching a classic movie with updates!

I had a good few hours read on this trip through memory lane and realized all those that aren't with us anymore for one reason or another, as well as getting to know some of the newer members. :)

I also realized that I never did respond to this thread, unless I skipped over my own post somewhere along the line. But, I don't have any stories to tell behind my screen name either, so that's maybe why I didn't post before. My first name is Joan and the first initial of my last name is J, therefore, I'm JoanJ. (original, aren't I?) LOL

somewhere, PA

Well - there's just nothing to explain in my screen name. Its my first name.
(Except I'm too lazy to type it all so I go my "Tam" a lot too)

I have loved reading this! I am Late_Bloomer, just because I am just that a late bloomer!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I think most of us are, Late_Bloomer. Way back when we were never given as much free reign to be what we yearned to be and a little bit of age sure helps us with our own late blooming habits. :-)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I went thru a lot of names before I found one that wasn't taken. I guess we all think alike to some extent. I love everyone's stories of how their name came to be. Mine came from a Mick Ronson song, so that sort of dates me. My real name is Sally.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It sounds better than "Lay down Sally" for sure!!!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Too late now, but I should have chosen ''Runs With Cats.'' A few years ago a feral mama cat adopted us and proceded to have a couple more kittens before we got her spayed. My husband worked nites, so in the summer, after dark, my cats and I would prowl the yard. During the day we walked down the old railroad tracks exploring. Sadly they're all gone now.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

So sorry. The loss of any pet is more of a loss than people without pets can know.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

'Howdy' there, billyporter/Sally !!
Am very glad you've opted to disclose the hint of your gender .. (hee)
.. I surely wouldn't have desired to mistakenly address you, inappropriately ..

Seems that the content of the text, the pics, and the virtual personalities of quite a few folks on the www .. can be deceiving.

So pleased to've made your acqaintance, Sally ..

MAN! Talk about feeling like a latecomer! I had never been on this post! Like--it started in 2001??? It is now 3/2006!

I tried reading through some of the stories, but it was just too much for one night!
My name is Gita and I love gardening. There are also part of my real e-mail address. Not gonna post it here! I am a female, so--my chosen user name is Gitagal.

Not very interesting but it is easy to use.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I did read all the stories. Thanks to everyone who has responded to me. I really feel at home here. I also see what a simple gardner I am compared to most of you. I'm going to learn so much!

Willoughby, OH(Zone 5a)

Back in the Olden Days, when my best friend and I were studying single-cell organisms in 9th grade biology class,we learned about the "golgi apparatus",a mysterious structure of unknown function, situated at the side of the nucleus.
We ADORED the name,we were ridiculously silly-and I immediately became Golgi, forevermore.
postscript...the golgi apparatus is NOW known to process proteins.Ain't that exciting!!

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

golgi -

I had to google it.. now I'm thinking of changing my name to endoplasmic reticulum...LOL

I'm pretty new here. I started reading this thread from the beginning about two weeks ago and just never found the time to read every one. Really entertaining reading but I had to skip some of the middle years. So here I am at the end & decided to reply.
My name is really Rose, my last name starts with R and my address begins with 207. I have been using roser207 for a few years and liked it because it sounds like I'm really into gardening. I am really into gardening but I DO NOT have 207 roses. Wish I could though.
Rose

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Make friends with Zuzu, in California, and you'll end up with 207 roses!

Covington, GA(Zone 5b)

I don't have room for all those roses but I could use a couple . I have some bushes I raised from seed that I brought back from Scotland. This summer will be their second year if they make it through the winter. Maybe Zuzu will help me identify them if they bloom.

I am very new to DG and have spent many hours reading, reading and reading! I love it! Everyone seems so nice.
CeeBCross was the name of my favorite Quarter Horse mare. She was smart, gorgeous and a wonderful mother. I had to give all of my horses up when we sold our farm in GA 3 years ago so we could move to TX. Since then, we have moved to FL and although I can't have horses where we live, we do have a large yard and I am having a wonderful time with my gardening. It's something I never had the time for when we had the horses.
I've enjoyed reading all of your enteries here and will finish reading all of them in the next couple of days.
Hope I get the opportunity to get to know many of you with time.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Welcome to DG! Hope you get to explore the many forums. The people are friendly and I'm sure you'll enjoy DG.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

A big ol 'hearty' welcome to DG .. to ya, CeeBCross !!

You can bet yer booters!!
Ya got a whole big ol' batch of interests and opportunities spread out before you.
{We're} your proverbial ‘cornucopia’ of garden varieties . . .
And you’re now a part of the basket structure and its wonderful contents.

Enjoy!!

Hi all,
Yes, I'm new and having a great time catching up with all the past posts. I'm West Coast Gypsy, born here, lived in a lot of places here and would spend all my time going back and forth, up and down the west coast every chance I get. Absolute heaven to me! My "normal" name is Sherry. I love hearing how yo all came up with yours.
Sherry

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

When I joined I just used what I use almost everywhere, my initial and my lastname crammed together. It's not real original but it's easy for me to remember. However since I found out JamesCo is called Kenton I guess I could have been anotherKenton. I'd be reading post and the Kenton would stand right out to me when he was called it. Do folks with more commonly used names also notice if Mary or such is used in a post ?

another Kenton

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, I think it's normal and I do notice. A former boss had taken a course and the importance of a person's name and how personally attached people are to their names was given great importance.
