How did you pick your name?

Warkworth, Northumbe, United Kingdom

Southmede is the name of the house where I live. Mede is an old English word for meadow so south meadow. The house next door and ours was one house owned by the Duke of Northumberland. Our holiday cottage is Southmede Cottage www.southmede.co.uk is our website. I love my house and garden so much, I use the name.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

"big" is 'cause I powerlift but not like I use to before I started my own biz...and "red" is for my hair(thank gawd for Clariol!)My real name is Peggy. Not very interesting story, huh?

Blum, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Dave, Is there any way to remove a thread no longer needed?(I'm lost). Also can a mistake be corrected? ( never enough prayer) It really shows my ignorance!

30 mi. east of San F, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Rita - No I'm not in Antioch. Antioch is 30 miles NorthEast of me. It's probably only 20 mi. NE as the crow flies, but there's a mountain that the road needs to skirt around between my home and Antioch.

Grand Prairie, TX

My mom's nickname on here is COCO. Since I am her daughter, and this is a gardening site, I thought CoCoSeed was appropriate. :-)

New Ipswich, NH(Zone 4a)

thanks Vicki :) a case of mistaken id lol

Ladysmith, BC(Zone 8a)

I chose Gardendragon, as we are a family of dragons!
My sister who now lives in Australia is Welshdragon, my Mom is Ladydragon - she is now 92, my daughter is 'The Dragon' and granddaughter is Littledragon.
My email address amuses everyone (here is part of it 'cow-net')As we live in the Cowichan Valley, where the Native Indians knit the most beautiful sweaters worth hundreds of dollars, hence the COW.
My real name is Helen

London, ON(Zone 5b)

WOW!!! it took me forever to read all that ... it is great to see the thought that is taken to make up a name.

MYSTIC... I always thought of your being named the same as a beanie baby because it is my daughter's favourite!!!!

Smilin32... my favourite saying ... one that all my friends know I will say to them at any given time.. is "Keep smilin'". It is a saying I try to always use myself... that is why I add the :o) face under my name. Sorta a signature of sorts.

My name is obviously my name :o) but when I originally signed on here I was begenuineme (be genuine me). Dave changed it for me a couple of months ago though. I thought up the name begenuineme for the same reason mystic thought up her name... for the use on the computer sites when you don't want to give your real name and stats away. When I first started computing I "chatted" on yahoo alot and was not impressed by how people lie about themselves.... portraying themselves as a completely different person and getting innocent people to believe in them.... hence I came up with .... be genuine me. Shown with no spaces the name starts with b..e..g.. so my friends started calling me Beg! I still get called that now... lol.

that is my story.......

This is a cool thread mystic! I'm new here and haven't posted much 'cause this sight is much bigger than the other sight that I seed trade on. Guess I'm still kind of shy around everyone here. Okay, tinkerbell is a name my husband chose when I was trying to think of the user name for my email. Was going to use ladybug but was already used. Also, I like tinkerbell a lot. In fact I love all Walt Disney movies especially all the old animations like Bambi, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, etc... I'm not as graceful as the real tinkerbell though.lol Anyway, that is how I came up with tinkerbell.

By the way michele5000, I thought maybe you had seen and liked the movie cherry2000 so you went with michele5000.

Cathy:)

Horseshoe said:

"Horseshoe"...hmmm...don't make me say it. It'll make ya sniffle, or make ya say 'ahhhhh, how sweet'...or say 'ohhh,
so touching', etc. And NO(!), I am not one who puts shoes on horses! And NO(!), I don't even ride horses...(am scared to death of them...'s'matter of fact one of my favorite horse jokes, that might clarify my fears, was recently on one of our joke pages! go figger!)"

So shoesies: Does it have anything to do with crabs?

As in horseshoe crab?

Love, Lavanda who enjoyed "seeing" you last nite!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

lol this is an old thread, but still good for a giggle

Mcallen, TX(Zone 8a)

Strangely enough, I had been wondering the very thing, but had not gotten around to asking yet.

Then, today I was doing a search for "pebble snowball bush" and Eureka! There it was.

Mebbe some new members will respond. I plan to soon.

Love, Lav

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Yes it sure is an old thread but I sat here and read it all again and it was like a trip down memory lane. This thread is the what got me talking to Tink. Thats right shoe you never did tell us so it's time to spill it!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh sheesh...I declare! I did so, somewhere. Just can't find it right now. It may have been in another "name" thread. When I get time (?) I'll try a search.

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

Shoe, You don't really have horseshoes nailed to the bottom of your feet, do you? hehehehe

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

HAH! Nope. Tried that once. I finally gave up trying to attach them. My feet are so tuff it kept bending the nails. (If I wore real shoes I'd probably wear them out from the inside!)

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, I picked earthling because I am one.....by the name of Kris....

This sure has been fun to read..what a great thread, Mystic..thanks.

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I chose my name because, when we were building our house, I was trying to decide what kind of cabinet hardware to use on the kitchen cabinets. The cabinets are cherry and my wife wanted to use bright brass hardware. I didn't think it would look very good, but didn't know what I wanted (I'm the cook in the family, so I got to pick out everything in the kitchen - she got the rest of the house).

So, I was staring at the cabinets one day and thought "you know, copper hardware would really look good with the cabinets". Five minutes later I was on the internet at Garbe's in Oklahoma where they had copper knobs and drawer pulls for sale. I then found copper electical, light, cable, etc. plates. Then we found copper fans. Finally, I went a little overboard ordering copper items on e-bay to populate the kitchen and keeping room. Here's a photo showing some of the copper items.

Very nice kitchen! (You have TWO exhaust vents over your range?)
Looks like a nice place to cook! Love the counter! You really went all out!

We used to own a 106 acre farm with several beautiful meadows. Our farm was in a holler and the fog in the morning was absolutely beautiful. As it lifted and the sun came over, the meadows gleamed with mist from, as if they were sparkled with diamonds. What an awesome sight to see every morning. We have since bought a smaller farm (28 acres), on a hilltop, but we never changed the name as people were so used to us by that name. I have the name registered with the State of KY, which by the way any KY farm can do for a dollar. Go to www.kyagr.com and click on Forms and go to Farm Registration Application. They send you a beautiful certificate suitable for framing. We still have a lot of fog and mist, so I guess it is still appropriate. Kentucky is known for a lot of fog due to all the hollers and hilltops. So there you have it and now it's down in history. I've enjoyed reading all the other stories and thanks for the great thread Mystic. :)

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Fairly new member - my DG name is the same as my email name, eanders2, which is pretty boring, but I found I couldn't remember different names for different purposes. My real name is Ellen. Glad to meet you all!

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Great to see new post on here. Nice to meet ya both. Misty great to see somebody else from Ky.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

wow. This is a fun thread to read. And educational, too. =)

My nick, sundry, means miscellaneous, in general, uncatagorized. That's me.

When I first got on-line (almost 10 years ago) I had a different nick. We used to chat on IRC, and I couldn't log on without being constantly bombarded with teenage come-ons. It was annoying.

I wanted a name that did not reveal my gender, nor designate a personality (which would be wrong, since I don't have a designated personality). I wanted something slightly odd, so I could use it in lots of places, but not something that sounded highbrow.

So I became sundry. I immediately noticed a difference. Whenever I logged on to chat I was instantly bombarded with "are you m/f?". LOL

Anyway, I am sundry, for better or worse. I rarely IRC, or chat anymore, except to keep in touch with my DD. These days, the name 'sundry' isn't always available, so sometimes I have to be allNsundry, which is cool.

I'm not hiding my real name, it's Cheri'. Actually, I think sundry is much more descriptive of the real me than Cheri' ever was.

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Wow! It was sure interesting reading.

My first username was Tonny (moms idea *lol*), because that would be one I could remember loggin in *lol* Now its Tonny_and_Lene. Here is a picture to go with one of the faces *lol*

We have a little place out on the country with 1.400 square-meters with perennial garden, flowerbeds, vegs. garden, tobbaco growing and loads of Datura and Brugmansias.

As we always find a way to squeeze one more Brugmansia into our collection the real name should be Brugaholics or Brugmaniacs. I don`t like to think about how many I end up with. Right now its close to 400 different *lol*lol*

In my astrological birth chart I have no planets in water - noh2o. It seemed like a good gardening name, but the truth is I am not really into xeriscaping. I love too many plants that need a lot of water. This year I haven't had to water once! In fact I am waiting for the rain to stop so I can plant my dahlias and tomatoes. Their bed is near the bottom of my sloping yard and right now there are about 2 inches of standing water on it. My real name is Candy and I am praying for sun, because this spring I have had way too much h2o!
I discovered the internet in March and Dave's in May and I am in heaven. My only complaint is that I spend so much time with Dave I don't get much done outside.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

In addition to my previous post: My real name is Kathy. Mystic, where is Ewing, Kentucky? I wonder how close we are to each other. :) I am a friend of Shoe's, recently signed on. Drop me a note, if you can, and let me know your location :)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Kathy, I was wondering the same thing...(How far are you and Mystic from each other).

Also was wondering how far you and Ralph would be from the Roundup we're planning (end of Sept) in KY! Might wanna think about that, eh? :>)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I'm in Ky too...but most likely a purty fur piece from y'all.

I'm so far west that the only misty mornings we have is from the humidity.And...there are few hollers and even fewer hills.

Over here in corn and soybean country, the highest vista is the local watertower.

Hope to see y'all in Sept.though,I'd love to show ya around this end of the state.

Crossville, TN

Friend of Shoes??? WOW! Shoe has a friend!! *grin*...Just kidding...cause everyone on here is a Friend of Shoe's!! MistyMeadows...what a lovely name...Mystic is about 50 miles East of Lexington...about 30 miles off I-64....was there once...Jo

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

When I was a child, my sisters and I would put on skits to songs. Remember one about "Anastasia, come down from where you are?" or something like that? Pat Boone maybe? Well, I really liked the name. And then of course seeing/reading "Nicholas & Alexandria" Romanov and the story of their daughter Anastasia and all the mystery that surrounds her intrigued me. And finally, 20 some years ago, when my children were small, I read where Mother Teresa suggested that everyone shoud "name" his/her guardian angel. I immediately thought of Anastasia but spelled it "Anastatia". Our whole family took a name for his/her G. Angel and communicate regularly in prayer. "Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom Gods love commits me here. Ever this day/night be at my side, to light, to guard, to rule and guide.Amen" So Anastatia it is.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Wow everybody has such great names. Tonny they let you out of the brug forum nice to see ya. Misty I just emailed ya.There ya go shoe talk them into coming to the roundup. Mel it's such a shame we are so far apart. But I will see ya at the roundup. Jo thanks for posting for me heck you know where I live better than I do. lol

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

I am Frank Andrew Young. Named after my mothers father Frank Andrew Kittredge. He was true Scot and I guess I am too. My DW bought me a chanter to try the pipes. I'm much better on Bass Guitar. Musically I love Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, John Mayall, also Marilyn Manson, Union underground. If they really mean it when they do it, then you might listen at least once. These kids are the future. Don't justlook away. Our parents did.

Crossville, TN

Bumped up for the new ones here...Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Frank! I forgot all about you and your bass playing/music! Good to see someone else knows of J.Beck (very inovative and under-appreciated fantastic player), Buddy Guy (he does a great version of Black Magic Woman! might even surpass Santana!), John Mayall (saw him and the Bluesbreakers yrs ago. You know he just celebrated a 70-something birthday and is still playing strong!) and the others, mighty mighty fine musicians.

Now, as for this name thing? Time for ya'll who hasn't already to come forth!

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

LOL this has been interesting reading, but Shoe, you never said what your REAL name was???

I'm Melissa and I'm from Ohio... REAL creative!

I signed up with the same name Hubby and I use for everything, after I was here for a while, it just seemed so impersonal to me, so I asked Dave to change me to my first name. Since there was already a Melissa, I added the Ohio.

No one has ever asked yet where I'm from. :-)

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I just found this and it is fun to read. Some that I thought might be guys are girls. I chose Bluegrass425 because I am KY Proud. The 4/25 is our anniversary. My real name is Teresa.
I might need to change it to Daylily Dazed!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

So simple to go with what ya know. Although I never knew her, my grandmothers' name was Molly and I was named after her. I figured I would be the only one here with this name, and guess what! There are two of us! Already had a mistaken identity. But Molly's are rare so that makes both of us special.

:^)

Molly

Well, my name is Bob, and I raise all my veggies in raised beds.
When I was subscribing to DG, it just popped into my head.
