BJ, our voices are natural 'mama-ish'. The kitties were out again and Kel had the hardest time coralling them, until I had to help him. No matter how often he plays with or feeds them, it's still my voice they run to!
Linda Kay, red is sought after color for Aussie and American brug enthusiasts. The Europeans have it like in Super Spot, and as far as I know, only one pro brug grower has it here, but I think she's using it for crosses. If she's reading this, hint, hint! Lol!!
Then of course there's American born "Dola", that one seller who is also a member here, offered on eBay. This is the description on Dola..
" ... her flame-like tendrils are colored anywhere from medium orangy/red to downright red when the sun shines through her.." Now who wouldn't want a piece of Dola?
Sis, so you're the one that bids against me!!!
You can get SS seed crosses from one German brug seller..from eBay of course, but never the plant itself.
**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 9
Nope no bidding here on that one!!!
From what I understand about seeds, is that you never get what the plant is? Especially from crosses.
Anyway, it sounds very pretty, but just to pricey for this lady.
Let us all know if someone is selling them here.
Linda Kay
Even from seeds that were not crossed, very rarely it will be like the parent. Reason for crosses, is hoping to get unusual hues.
We all learn only way to get true to the parent are cuttings.
I have a feeling that all these high bidders are pooling or either big brug sellers. So us the poor ones will have to wait.. :(
I just caught Dolly off her nest, and peeked a little closer... there SIX eggs... one's kinda low in the nest, and I missed it earlier... Don thinks I should not feed her while she's nesting, cause it might attract unwanted varmints that would harm her or the eggs... so, I'm only going to feed her when I clip the zinnias... which is only about every 2-3 days.
I'm so excited.
Think you could go out there and take a pic of Dolly? We shan't count the ducklings before they are hatched! SIX!!!! Wowie...they'd be so cute to watch...
Oh BJ, I'm getting excited too. I don't think I have that kind of restraint not to feed her. I'll be placing a crumb at the end of a long pole..too afraid that Dolly might not get enough nourishment, even for 1 hour!!!!
That is soo adorable BJ. I can't wait to see the ducklings! I miss Billy, but he has a really good home and Smedge has been posting pics of him/her growing up
In the perfect JayeVille there should be chickens and ducks and pygmy goats and Shetland ponies. Am happy with 9 kitties and 2 well behaved dogs.
So, a perfect Jayeville would be home for very short animals... right?
I was able to get a better pic of the nest while Dolly was away... you can see all 6 eggs here.
Don said thats why she leaves the nest in the afternoon... 1) it's just too hot to sit there, and she takes a swim to cool off while the temps are warm enough to incubate the eggs for her... and 2) Dilly sure isn't going to bring her dinner... so she has to go get something to eat once a day. So, about 3 in the afternoon, I should look for her in the front yard to get some bread... or I'll just leave it there for her when she's ready.
I'll try to get a pic of Dolly tomorrow, but I don't want to disturb her too much.
That is just adorable.
Good nite all
Linda kay
So Jaye would these guys fit in in Jayeville?
http://www.miniaturebull.com/
If this is home to very short animals, then Kel's definitely out of place! He's certainly the Jolly Red Giant!
BJ, do you know if ducks eat worms like other feathered friends? Never had seen a duck pecking for worms. Knowing you, you're gonna try to make some duck critters with your polymer clay.
OK...story of Dolly and Dilly Wilson continues tomorrow...stay tune sistahs!!
I've never seen a duck root for worms either... so, I'm going to say NO.. they don't eat worms.
They're grain eaters... Dilly and Dolly like bread, for sure.. but they also like dry oatmeal, and corn flakes... so far, that's all I've tried to feed them. Oh, yea... and they eat the bird seed dropped from the bird feeder.
Oh the little duckling I had loved meal worms!! He gobbled them up. Ducks do scoot along the bottom of the water eating all sorts of little critters. Crawfish, minnows and little water bugs.
My wild ducks eat insects, small fish, lots of green grasses, and most of my wildflower blooms. I have wood ducks, several different kinds of crazy-looking ducks (don't know the name), mallards and geese. Probably chicken laying pellets would be good for sitting ducks.
They told me to get unmedicated crumble for mine. It was labeled wild fowl mix? The folks over on the poulty forum said not to give them the stuff with antibiotics.
Slowly bake egg shells until they crush easily is good for all birds, especially ones that just laid eggs. I add these to my bird feeders.
Ooooh did you see the itsy bitsy cows Jaye? I want one of those so bad!!
BJ, I'm assuming the duck eggs are fertile!?! You don't have to feed her, she'll get off her nest long enough to eat. Have you ever seen a hen standing over her eggs? They do that when it gets to hot. So don't worry if she leaves them for a few minutes. She knows how long to stay away!
And, yes, they recognise your voice! When they're babies, they'll imprint on your voice, and you, too. You're a ducky mommy!!
You are so baaaaaad Joey!! That cow's adorable!! Wonder if it could be housebroken!! The good thing is it won't cost much to feed those mini animals!
Sheesh...I bet Kel eats more than that cow eats in a day!
Deborah, the closest thing to a water fowl are geese that flew over..
Wonder if you could house train one of those itsy bitsy cows?
Ducky Mummy.. so Ducky Mummy must learn to quack too?
One of our fav. movies is Fly Away Home. Those Canadian geese think that little girl's their mama.
Think I'm about to fly away to Rainbow dreamland myself.
Shall continue this tomorrow. Nite all!
night all - thanks for the laughs today.
Ok, that's it.. I'll go to the feed store tomorrow and get some wild duck feed... without meds... and just put a bowl of it close to her nest in the afternoon, then pick it up before dark... all the egg shells I had are now in my compost... but, when Don's home for a meal again, I'll have more egg shells, and will do that, thanks Deborah...
So, I'll talk to the ducklings all the time they're growing up, and they'll know my voice forever, right?
Why do I feel like a kid with a new pet?
Those tiny cows don't look like they have much meat on them... LOL
Better not let my DIL see them, she'll have a herd of them in her back yard.
I just love the little longhorns! how cute is that?
'Cause you're just like the rest of us! We're all critter people!
Isn't he pretty. And pretty fiesty I take it?
Linda Kay
no, he likes to be held and told hw pretty he is.
Good morning my sistahs!

Thank you for coming into my life.
bon, he is sweet!
Big sister has been named "Star" as she liked to hog everything, in background. Now that she's 30 days old, she is very hard to handle, because she's gotten the flying thing down great and we haven't clipped wings yet. We will have to clip them eventually, to limit flight. She's on top perch now.
shy boy on swing in foreground. They look alike to me, except for their behavior. DD can tell them apart.
