Oh yeah, what is hypertufa? Please don't tell me if it will be another arm twister project? LOL
**SWEET INTERRUPTION** 2
Ah ha! Linda Kay are you in for it now!!! I haven't done/tried it yet but it is on my list!!! LOL We are a sad--but happy--bunch of campers here. Addicts might be more correct.
That is what we are: "Project Addicted Sistas"
Well, Linda Kay, hypertufa is a recipe of concrete to replicate an old world rock that used to form in England... women used to hone out the middle to make planting troughs out of them. Some smart soul came up with a "fake" stone recipe to make those planters out of, and lots of people are doing them... they have a real rustic look. I'm just molding some simple projects right now to get a feel for it, but eventually we're going to make some boulders and rocks for our Tropical garden ... yes, and some planting troughs too. It's not a process for the impatient though... it takes months to cure properly.
Plants really love this stuff, it hold moisture, and lets the roots breath. Here's a pic of my very first pot I poured... it's still living in plastic, but I can unwrap it next Monday to let the weather finish it's curing process.
i've been working all morning--got to get a few things done before the big day tomarrow! my son and daughter in law stopped by too--we have been looking over the map to bj's house--isn't she lucky to live on a lake? i consider it a vacation day! bj is it like your living a vacation when you live on a lake?
Actually, Don and I keep telling ourselves that we're trying to create our own "resort" so we don't have to go on vacations anymore... I hope he's kidding, cause I am. No, it's not like living a vacation everyday on the lake... it's a lot of work to keep this place up... but it is nice to take breaks and go for a ride on the water when we want to.
oh yea-forgot about keeping it up! on vacations someone else gets to do the work!
Riiiigggghhhhtttt !!!! Our resort doesn't hire help.
So, is everyone busy in their yard today? Just finished mowing, but I don't think I'm gonna get the weed eating done today... sorry, Linda... you are going to see weeds at my house tomorrow... and dust, and unfinished projects, and well... all the other clutter that we call home.
oh good--that way i will feel at home!!
Are you girls ready for a good laugh?
http://videos.komando.com/2008/06/27/photo-booth/
What a hoot!!! My ISP went bonkers again, just got logged on, and BJ.....we laughed till we cry!
Thanks..my favorite is the weight fiasco!!!
All these tourists must have a taste of crazy American humor!
Thanks BJ!
I thought it was really funny too... emailed it Don... I'm sure he'll call after he cools off.
He really really hates Phoenix... too hot... and there's no place to eat around the stadium... and he hates the truck he's on.. it has too many issues... good thing this is his last trip there ... or at least the last one that shows up on his schedule... he does nothing but complain when he's in Phoenix.
Poor man. I'm sure he hates being away from home. And no...I won't say how lucky he is that at least it's dry heat there!!!
BJ, you have a great time tomorrow with Linda. Y'all gonna be like 2 school girls together!
Post pics pleassssssse...
Too tired to read what's going on this evening with the other threads. Will have a full day tomorrow-again- so, I will have to excuse myself and say my night prayers.
Till tomorrow...rainbow dreams ^_^
Nighty Night Jaye... and Kel.
Actually, Jaye... he really doesn't HATE being away from home... he hates the traveling part (airports, hotels, etc), but he loves his job. And there's parts of the country he really likes to go... He loves it when they send him to Florida... cause he can get Yuengling there... LOL... and he really doesn't mind any of the south eastern states... and when he goes to California he gets a chance to see his son, and of course, who wouldn't love Denver ... PLUS... his travel gives us time away from each other... kinda makes his coming home like a reunion (if ya know what I mean)... the only time I hear him complain A LOT is when he's in Phoenix.
I'm up early! Couldn't sleep thinking about all the fun BJ and Linda were going to have! Oh my what a day ahead.
Had problems staying connected last night so just gave up and went to bed.
Understand about the traveling BJ, my LDH loved his job but got very tired of the constant travel involved. When given a choice he continued to travel as he hated a desk job! He was a scientist through and through and travel is what it required.
Morning everyone!!!
AND OH MY, what a day it's gonna be... YIPPEE.
Was so excited last night, I could hardly sleep either.
Linda, please be careful on your drive out... just take your time, and don't get lost.
Jaye? JAYE? where are you? are you gonna come check in today?
Linda just left, and I really enjoyed her visit. But, I'm going to let her tell you all about our visit... I think she might enjoy that.
Jaye said some where on one of the threads that she has a busy day spo wouldnt be around to much.
I'm glad you 2 had a good time. Can't wait to hear all the details!
I'm here!!!
Just returned from a date with my Schwan's man!!
Hurry Linda--got warm brownies (Schwan's of course) ready for y'all. Audrey, you can make your own Bailey's sauce. I like mine with a little cream cheese.
Can't imagine the fun you both have. Hope you maintain your decorum and not push each other into the lake? Ahem..if Joey's there...it might be a different story!
Joey and Marion, I'll be mailing your gingers first thing Monday, along with Sis. Don't worry, they'll be fine for as long as I have them soaking in water. If not, I'll just dig up another bed.
Oooo hot brownies... mmmmm...
Nope, nobody got thrown in the lake... but we did get wet... feels good on a hot day.
Yea, we maintained decorum... what ever that is!!!
LOL
The last boat ride I took was in the Louisiana Atchafalayas Swamp more than 8 years ago.
Well, then... you're gonna have to come see me sometime too...
We love our boat, havnt been out much lately as Zeke has been too small, but he's getting big enough now for a real life vest so maybe later this summer. We would love to take it out for fireworks on the water for the 4th, but Lake Conroe has gotten so crowded with drunks and partyers that we just don't go out on busy days like that.
Ya know the paper had an article about the number of accidents on the lake in the last few years, and just can't figure out why? Well might be all those bars along the lake with docks so you can pull up and drink? Dunno but that might be it LOL
Joey, I know back in Louisiana, boat operators can get charged with DUI. Lawmakers implement it since there were too many fatal accidents caused by irresponsible party goers.
Not only the boats can be dangerous, but the jet skis too!
Yeah they can give DUIs here too, but doesn't stop it, Part of the problem is out little county is growing realy realy fast and the goverment agencies are trying to keep up. Not enough animal control or boat patrols that kind of stuff. It'll catch up one day I reckon. It would be nice to go back to the lake more
JoJo, you just take that boy out and toss him in! He may surprise you! My daughter and her dh took their little boy on a house boat for the weekend. When he woke up the next morning, he said "Good morning, river" and jumped right in! Of course he could swim like a fish! He was about 3!

You know I still can't swim :*>
--i'm baaaaaaaaaaaaack-from bj's that is!
--bj just treats you so good! she has this big fairy/gnome area that i have decided i just might move into (don't tell her tho) -it has it's own lake
-and then there are multiple garden areas and flowers in bloom everywhere-and you go out the back and there's the lake! oh and a gazebo area to enjoy the lake on her comphy lounge set--
and her house is beautiful--you know how she acts like she isn't that great at creating things? do not believe it! she has done so much to make her house unique and fun--and she has all kinds of plans and projects-
and she makes very good fajitas! with all the toppings too!
then we went out on her jet skis --which i had never been on before and took me on a tour of the lake--we scoped out all the pretty landscaping her neighbors along the lake have-after all we are dave's gardeners! and we visited the bird island -
then we just played on the skis--you can forget the heat when the water is keeping you nice and cool--
ok--here's the only bad part--the time went so fast! i felt like we just got started on our day and i had to leave because of rush hour traffic--
sorry to be so gushy but it was just such a special day!
That sounds like so much fun! I wanna goooo!
Reading as though you still haven't come down from that wonderful cloud, Linda!
Oh yes....the cat's out of the bag now. Thanks for confirming our belief that BJ is an artist! She'd definitely be the one on DG's block to have the best magical kingdom ever!
Fajitas?? Now you're talking!! Your own Tex Mex spice mix, BJ?
So, I'm sure another visit is in the makings, of course, plus hubbies.
Pictures please!!!!
Thank you JoJo, for the little gnome!! I just figured out who you were! I thought he was a shelf hanger, but he's not! What do I hang him on"
Well Audrey...aren't you the lucky gal! Just a gift to make sure you'll have a good start on your fairy/gnome garden. How sweet of you Jojo...(think I'm the only one that calls her Joey).
Thank you Linda, for all those nice things you said... I really enjoyed you visiting too... hope we can do it again sometime.
But, let's not let this get out of control... what you saw was just a little mud and paint, but it took a long time to get it right.
Jaye, no special spices... I buy it in the meat section already soaking in its spices... just cook and eat. I like easy.
JoJo... you only have half the crazies on your lake... we have the other half. Don and I usually don't go out there on the weekends when it's full of boaters. But he has enough weekdays off that we can have the lake to ourselves. Linda and I almost had it to ourselves today... she's quite a "captain" of her own boat...
But we do have some bars on the lake too... with docks for boaters... it's just nuts what those drunks do after leaving the bar.
Audrey... you feelin' the love? JoJo did good?
yes -you're right jaye--still flying high thinking about today--just had dinner and told my husband all about it-both of our families were worried about us--bj's husband thought i might be a weirdo (well i might be a little weird?!) or a man--my daughter said the same thing--"mom--what if it's a man pretending to be a woman?!"
so bj is a woman and not a wierdo--funny because i used to tell the kids the same thing--"be careful who you talk to on the internet--it could be a 40 year old man pretending to be a 16 year old girl
bj and i couldn't imagine any dave's gardeners being bad guys!
Oh, if any of you are weirdos, please don't bust our bubble...
It was funny that both of our families were worried about us meeting in person... LOL
But we weren't worried about that at all... just a feeling we get talking online... right?
Oh Audrey glad you got him! He was just a tiny little guy I saw sitiiing in the store and he needed a home!
He's made to hang on a pot. Just hook him over the edge. Glad you like him!
And take a picture, Audrey... I love those little pot hangers.
Linda, this is my favorite quote on gardening...
"The best place to seek God is in a garden. You can dig for him there." ~George Bernard Shaw.
So how could gardeners be bad guys? The only crime they'll do is loving their plants too much and then apologizing for having to resort to chemical warfare!
...and oh yes...the zone pushers!!
Funny thing is Shaw's an atheist!
