Best/Worse and What did I learn today? Friends pt.39

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Here is how I used some fo the Dusty Milles last year. Those are petunias behind.

Betty your friendship garden sounds lovely. Hope the building deal works out!

Welcome Amythis(sp) sorry! LOL I have also seen you elsewhare when I am lurking. Have thought af a balck bed also. but that is as far as it went. Do have a red one tho.

Liz that girl is incredable and I don't mean it in a good way. What are the pots for I think I missed something. Truck day went good. I got to work and most everything was put away. Just ran til and cleaned up. Easy day! It even went fast!

I have been shopping all morning and am getting tired. Hope to stop in later. I do have groceries to put away yet and maybe a nap.

Best got a ham for 99 cents a pound.

Worst the wind today is terrible. It was blowing me all over. Whehter I was walking or driving. We are to get more snow!

Learn that spring will get here at some point!
You all have the day you need if I don't make it back.

Here is one of my silver lace dusty millers (which came out of a little nursery six pack in June) in early October, swallowing up the dianthus to either side...

Now I'll be purchasing dusty miller plants..lol..Judy thanks for posting..when I get a Sat. that I'm in town I'll go to Staples and see if they can photocopy so I can send a clear photo..my camera just couldn't capture the work, the beauty of all of you..put that I'm my list to do..

Vicki, is that your garden this year, omg if it is, well, know that you are months ahead of mine..think the pots Liz was referring to were the clay pots to make the lighthouse I posted about 10 or 15 posts prior to this one..that should keep her busy..

This is the kind of sign post I want to make..except they will have your names and mileage on each..I need 4x4 for the live birdfeeder, for the gazebo feeder and this the sign post so will have them deliver them on the weekend..what will give me something to occupy my time will be to go on mapquest and put my address and then key in each town tosee for mileage..think I did that back oh lordy 6 months ago so not going back to read posts, will research info once again..lol

OMG I'm so full, not only did I have a large meal but an icecream sundae as well...Suzanne talked me into it...couldn't find something spectacular at Costco except for tiger painted look in rubber books with black buckles..now I can work outside...

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

That picture is from last year Betty! I haven't even cleaned out my beds yet. It is cold and blowing with snow coming! Unless we are lucky!

did you post a picture of the lighthouse?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Love the idea and the sign, Betty..you know I will have to have a red daylily for mine. We can't count the roses until we know that they will grow for me.

Thanks for the comment in the AB article....I am about to run out of memories!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Sharran now I can go and take my nap after reading your latest story. Hopefully I will dream about that little girl and her aunt!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Sweet, Ves, thank you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Vicki just think you'll have all that beauty to look forward to in the upcoming months..the lighthouse that I posted was that done with clay pots..

After my workshop on Saturday I'll be sure to post photo's of my master piece..lol..but sure wouldn't mind trying the one with clay pots...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, when I use clay pots in a stack like that....I have bird feeder bases made that way.....I put a dowel rod in the ground first then layer the pots over the dowel rod through the drainage hole. It keeps them from being knocked over. Also I use a little outdoor glue to hold them in place from the bottom to the top as I am placing them.

Same could apply to the lighthouse.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Shar..great idea..not quite sure how high this one would be, will have to go in search of pots, not really a lighthouse person but this caught my eye..I would have much rather do this one than the one I'm doing on Sat.

You can tell I'm bored out of my mind..yep I am..I'm going through my photo file looking at possible projects and you know me, if I choose to do it I will..I've about 5 or 6 more projects on the go..lol

If I can't work in my garden then by God I'm going to prepare for when I can..

Shar, I'll have to find a photo of a red daylily to do yours..got my mold out the other day, last year I poured my large mold to make a bench top and couldn't find anything that I liked to put on it i.e. mosaic, but the othe day I found one, it is the identical shape to my bench mold...lots of work, have to think about that one..

Here is a red lily painting that I did, and you have seen it before. Would it work for you? If not, I could dig around and see if I can find a photo of a red one.

would work perfectly Shar...It's something I could do inside until nice weather starts...are you not back in your jammies yet..

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Today is laundry day....I stay in my jammies on laundry day and hope nobody comes a'callin'.......ha!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar, if I want to put in a good days work, let me stay in my 'jammies' don't know where I got that from..grandma made me dress and make my bed before having breakfast, you'd not dare come downstairs in your jammies...but there is something about them (for me at least) that says get that dustcloth and broom and let's get at it...lol..

As for laundry, I put in 2 half loads as soon as I get up in the morning ..usually get the first dried and folder or hung, the second load if I don't get it into the dryer gets done when I get home...that way, I don't need a 'laundry day'...did you ever sit and think Shar - and everyone else- how you come up with these habits.. are they good habits, obsessive habits or time filling projects?

15 minutes left..this day is never ending and of course we started an hour earlier..which didn't help..

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

thanks for reposting the picture. I must of sped read over it. LOL Have never thought where my habits have come from. Mom was a clean freak and would redo what we did at times. So I figure that is why I am opposite of that. Besides there are better things to do. I guess I just do the cleaning and stuff when the mood hits. Maybe that is my habit!

Had a good nap. Got cold and had to cover up and went back to sleep. Almost 2 hours. All that shopping sure tired me out.

Sorry Shar I didn't dream at all. Well I figure I do but hardly ever remember a dream. I was hoping tho. The mountainside sounded so good.

that tabletop is beautiful!

Better go and figure out something for supper.

OMG and I was just going to tell you all that winters back..no snow but freezing out there, couldn't even go out to use my pretty boots...lol

OK you guys must have crossed your fingers/your arms/legs and whatever else you could cross for good luck..we were almost to Innisfil where the new building was and Paul called to say the owner called and signed all the papers..soooo thanks you nice friends..I'm just so excited that I might even clean my craft room...now that's getting pretty excited...

All from her garden and a neighbors. To pamper myself nice Bath salt to relax after hard day of gardening, A very pretty Purple candle, Lavender maybe! hand cream, Mackintosh's Toffee, cool box. I have never tried this kind of toffee so I am sure to hide it from kids, lol. a pretty little Butterfly that will be hanging from my computer and another little clover charm. Now, I just love my gifts Thank you so much, I Know just where I will "toss" the seed, and I can plant them at Wisconsin too...

So is laundry done? What?? You can't out of Aunt Bett Stories, LOL rack your brain, make some up! Another wonderfully written piece Shar. I too always feel like am right there, and gosh darn if I can smell that ol ashpidy bag! hahha, I know that is spelled wrong but you know what I am talking about.

Betty so excited about new office too!

OK, I give up.....changed cameras and it is numbering over the old one, so I might never find the other spring photo. The one you see is from a gallery exhibit from almost 2 years ago. Duh......]

Need to talk to my computer and camera.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm so laughing Shar...you sound like me when I can't figure out this technical camera jargon..hope the storm doesn't frighten you..know the last time it was pretty horrific...maybe it will pass quickly..now look at those beautiful trees..the colors are spectacular..no wonder you spend so much time outside..

Well, it's pass my bedtime..

Best....hearing (once again) about the building..do you think it will be come to pass?

Worse...still not feeling the best/called the Dr's office and they said ALL my test came back proving I'm a healthy lady...

What did I learn..maybe you can't trust medical equipment...don't you hate it when you know you are sick and they tell you your fine....

Anyway, guess I'll live another day!.. (kidding)...lol
Shar, be careful....everyone else..do enjoy your evening..

Hmmm.....has another thread been started? I am used to seeing other people postings when it is this time of the morning. I guess that I will find you all somewhere.

Ruby no new thread yet! I have been busy reading and am off to get breakfast.

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

betty, yep your right assessing the clay pots on the side of the house looks like i have most of the sizes LOL have a plug near the pond this would make a good addition to the area perhaps this weekend? that left over glass project is cool to..
but i dont understand?? they say your fine? i wonder if your having a acid reflex sort of issue?maby get another oppinion.
oh how exciting the building is closer than ever now.. your cleaning the craft room? looked pretty organised the lat time you showed a pic...
went to the stained glass place got a scrap peice of glass and a pretty turquoise peice and some silver foil, then saw the prettiest peice of purple patterened with pink and green holy cow standard peice was with a 25% off still 23.10 told him i would pass on this for just starting out lol.
he then told me the internet shopping and shipping charges has really cut down on bussiness and that he and his wife may go out of bussiness by the end of this year he dosnt want to put any more money in his bussiness, sad for him now to look for another glass shop for back up :(

shar, wonderful photo's did it storm yesterday or did you get to get out in the yard?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, very dreary out there, Suzanne and I left at 6:30 and didn't get here till 8:50am..because of the heavy rain it was stop and go for 1/2 the way..feel bad for so many in our area because the streams/river are flooding so there will be mega damage..winds are high - enjoy watching the trees dance from side to side...

Liz, you know you don't have to purchase an entire sheet of glass, they'll sell you square inches ..measure the width of your wings and ask for that much to be cut...he sure doesn't sound very friendly, perhaps that is why he's door poorly in the business...as for the Dr. I've made an appt. for next Friday to talk with him further..Liz girl, don't go purchasing new ones, get the old ones washed out..maybe use white spray for the general coverage coat..

Hi there Ruby, what's planned for today..anything special?? How is the situation with your son, improving I'm hoping...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Morning All! It is BEAUTIFUL outside today!!! Sorry to everyone who winter still has a grip on!! It's suppose to be up in the 80's today and sunny!! But never fear, the rain is heading back tonight for the weekend. This will be our 6th weekend with rain!!!

Spent the last 2 evenings making more stepping stones. I'm at the point now where I have to make the ones to fill in where the mold won't fit. Of course, I don't have any place to set them so I had to get some plywood and make them on that. I sure hope they come off! Hopefully, I can get the individual stones placed to finish the entire area around my herb garden. the next thing I want to do is find some tiny box woods and plant those around my herb garden and get rid of the cheap stones I have. My sister has a lot of them and I should have taken cuttings 2 yrs ago so they would now be a nice size. Oh well!

The kids get out of school half day today so I am taking a half day too. I am so glad it's nice out so I can get in the yard!!

Well, I need to get some work done before leaving so I will check back with everyone later.

Betty, I put your check in the mail this morning. Don't know how long it will take but it's on the way!

Hugs to everyone!!
J

(Cathy), MO

Hello everyone. I sent you a dmail Ruby. I could also use more castor bean seeds if you still have extras.

Hope everyone is well and the weather is better for you than it is here! We have a chance of snow today & tomorrow!!!! And the wind is bad!!!! I am so ready for warm weather.

Crozet, VA

Hello to everyone. Gorgeous here today also Jeannine. I spent the morning outside planting and waterinig everything really well. I had a friend helping me to plant and weed and pick up other yard debri. We still have more to plant too.

I received a shipment of plants this week that I had forgotten that I ordered. I just looked at my credit card statement for the month and see where I went a bit overboard buying plants. I had two shipments and each order was over $100.00. Things here need to be really, really lovely to be worth that. ha-ha Oh well, at least it only happens once a year,

Cathy, I added your name to the list of folks wanting seeds. I have a gallon size plastic bag full of castor beans, so I think that I have enough to share with you. ha-ha Please remember everyone - CASTOR BEANS ARE POISONOUS. Please don't pull a trick like I did two summers ago while planting them for the first time.

I started the beans in large size bowls before then putting them in the ground. I put about five or six beans in each of the bowls. I started these indoors but took them outside one lovely day. My oldest dog Lucky, saw me put them down on the deck. I came in the house and when I returned he had his head down in one of the bowls and he was chomping on something. I freaked totally out. I began running around yelling for John to come and help me.

Lucky had messed up the soil in the bowl, so I couldn't tell for sure whether he had eaten the bean sprout or not. Not wanting to take chances, I called the Veterinarian. The phone recording said that they were on vacation and gave a number for an emergency Veterinarian Service. When I called the emergency service their recording said that they would be in the office starting at 6 PM. It was about 1 PM at this point and I knew that I couldn't wait that long to see or talk to someone.

So, I got the phone book and called another Vet office. She said that we needed to bring him in. I decided before taking him in, to call my girlfriend who is a Certified Veterinarian Technician. My friend told me that I needed to get him to throw up the contents of his stomach. To get a dog to throw up, you need to feed him Peroxide. We first tried soaking bread in peroxide and that only made a mess. Finally, between John and myself we were able to hold his mouth open long enough for the other person to pour it down his throat. We watched the poor thing heave for almost an hour. And....he didn't die, nor did he get sick, other than while throwing up the peroxide.

SO........DO NOT LEAVE THE CASTOR BEANS WHERE PETS OR CHILDREN CAN GET THEM.

Well, I am pooped. I got some sun burn on my shoulders and that always makes me really tired. I am going to lay down for bit before tackling anything else.

Here is hoping that everyone will have a great weekend.

Ruby

Hi Laura,
Big Hugs (((((((((((((((( )))))))))))))))))))

Ruby you asked what wall I had taken down. It was the panneling and wall studs and insulation on an outisde basement wall.
It was leaking water badly along that wall and I needed to see where the water was coming in.
I have put another coat of hydraulic cement along the floor and wall join this afternoon.

Well I must tell you about my DELIGHTFUL Secret pal gift. I had just hung this old painted window frame up and all the wooden "starzz" gifts were perfect to hang on it..also the sweetest little windchime. It is so whimsical..I am sure when I have friends come to sit on the deck they will get a smile from seeing these things and I will tell them the story. Thank you so very much Secret Pal. :)

Cheers,
Carol

Laura my heart goes out to you..nightmares can shake to the depths of despair...are the meds levelling themselves..perhaps it's time to change them again..hope the family are spending time with you and caring for all your needs..will be saying prayers for you and your needs..glad you are working on teddies..dropped into the post office and not sure why she said after I gave her the receipt that should would call the counselate??? why not the post office..anyway, she said she'd research the parcel's location...seems a lot of bother for 2 blouses...

Rachel, been awhile since we've gabbed with you..let us know how you are doing..still spending time with Scrappy and lessons? Must be well trained by now, or he's trained you and DH..lol...hope you are well..miss you!

Cat, it's awfully cold here and drizzly, one never knows when it will turn to the fluffy white stuff...lol

Liz .. OMG/OMG I want to thank you for the lovely birdhouse and the hummingbird feeder..you are just tooo generous..wasn't I lucky that in the birdhouse swap they gave my name to you...yes I am, yes I am...lol - don't want to put it outside though, too pretty, think I'll keep it as an indoor 'treasure'..

Carol, I can see you are really into decorating already, bet you have your entire property raked, cleaned and looking very inviting..right? Isn't getting 'secret pal' gifts wonderful..

I also joined a 'windchime swap' and got mne today..have to go take photo's..must brave the elements and get the box out of my car...

Will be back shortly...

Ruby, how terrified you must have been when Lucky got into the plant..sometimes I see my kitties eating the floral arrangements I put out..guess I had better be more cautious as to what kinds of flower are in the bouquets...

Laura, can't help wishing I lived closer to you..know you can feel the warmth of all our hugs going your way...

Shar, was out shopping this aft. and bought this pkg. of seeds..hope you don't have them yet and also they are not all completely black, they have a white trim..will post them tomorrow...

Look at the price of the geranium seed package, please look as I didn't..don't know if I would have spent $5.00 for it..just grabbed it and didn't pay attention..this is the first time I've purchased seeds that were in a little plastic container..want to put them in paper towel and zip lock bag and get them growing..it said 10 - 14 weeks before last frost..this date will just about do it..lol...
