Best/Worse and What did I learn today? Friends pt.39

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Ohh Betty..that birdhouse is pretty. Very fancy with the steeple on it.

Yesterday I put just a few things out Betty...I power washed the deck, and I wanted to put afew things out since I was cleaning the garage too....

Sahron..I'mm off to read your latest Aunt bett story now..
Hope your storm wasn't too bad. I find the solar lights are good if the power goes out to use for light.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Cool,boots!..neat the way they have the buckle adjustment. I have the regular black ones..LOL
"You will be the grandest lady in the gardening parade"..hum ot the tune of the Easter parade.. :)

Wow..talk about sticker shock!..and so few seeds..Whew!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

oh Betty....those flowers are perfect....love them, and no I don't have them.
Thanks for remembering.

Love the birdhouse, also love Carol's gifts.....Secret pals for this month will be over in just a few more weeks, so be thinking about whether or not you want to continue through the summer. May and June we will all be busy outside, but it is up to you.

sorry Laura....hope your nights smooth out so they are more bearable,

Can't linger.....but will try to be back later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Kyle just dropped in and now he's gone home..guess his first clue was while talking to grandma she fell asleep..lol..so do love that he's of age now to be riding his bike and drops in often for visits...oh..he just dropped in again, it started to pour so he'll call mom to pick him up..I could drive him home but he wants his bike brought home as well...

Glad you don't have these seeds Shar..they are called Nemophilla (Penny Black)

"This little gem features delightful, almost black, small flowers prettily picoteed with a broad white edge. A perfect accent plant for rock gardens, small patios, borders, edging along pathways and makes a great container or window box item. Keep soil moist, but not wet because a lack of moisture will diminish the flowering..."flower June to August..4 to 6" tall...they look pretty on the package...

Judy, Judy where are you?????

Best of today..getting spoilt ..Darlene called me at work to say she and Mike were at Busy Bee tools and they bought me a 'bisquit joiner' the old one never worked half the time... and of course I love dropping in to the post office on a Friday .. today was especially heartwarming..beautiful swap pressies...lol

Worse...talking to Sharon (DS) ..she was to have come with us tomorrow but she spent today in bed and says she'll likely do the same tomorrow..depression is so overwhelming..tried to tell her to come out, would do her a world of good but she wants to be on her own...

What did I learn..friction between Suzanne and Wayne - new employee..they just clash..Wayne thinks he's one up on the ladder and that creates a whole new ballgame....but, something will have to come to a head...didn't notice it before today, Suzanne kept telling me that he was rude to her and today I saw it several times myself...I'm alright with him...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

but Betty, my dear, you are all right with everybody!!

Hi Betty,
I am here my friends. Got a little bit distracted with my day.

For today My best is, My heart is Warm in so many ways.
Worst The hardships others are feeling, continued prayers.
Learned, Being Simple is free. Just got to know where to look.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How very profound Judy, just snuck back in here...tummy is topsy turvey again, think excitement brings it on..wanted to tell you equal to Liz's birdhouse was getting my birthday card today..was such a surprise..brought tears to my eyes..who else gets birthday after birthday surprises for the 'same' birthday lol...read all your well wishes, looked at the envelopes taped nicely together and I'll put both the card and the envelopes in my memory binder that you sent me...It's so overwhelming yet again to ponder on the kindness you all have shown me..you truly are 'earthly angels'.....I will dream of each and every one of you..that's why I want my Best/Worse/What did I learn today friendship garden...I'll work very hard this spring to make you all proud of it...
just as I was typing my mom called to say she won't make it..Sharon will not be attending..not nice to say you are doing something and then not show up...Charlene has put a lot of effort in this workshop day...I'll try to work on mine and mom's I guess...ho/hum....

So for a 2nd time, goodnight all..will be a long day tomorrow..friends are picking me up at 8:15am..

PS..don't know if I get along with everyone Shar..do try though...

A quick story..this afternoon I stopped in at Kentucky fried chicken to pick up something for supper..quite a few people were there and one never knows who is in the line-up and who has ordered now standing in the line-up waiting for their meal..

So, very nicely and with a smile I said to this older gentleman (lol probably my age) "sir, are you in the lineup? " and he snarls, "where do you think I am", so again with a smile and a pleasant voice I say 'sometimes people order and then stand in line waiting for their food' and he says, "does it look like I'm standing here for nothing..are you blind" so I turn around and I say 'I was trying to be pleasent sir and not try to get ahead of you, I guess you don't understand good manners'..so he just looks at me like I'm from outer space..then a lady sees his rudeness and comes up and admires my beautiful hand made necklace that Liz sent me and we chat about you all...people...so guess I don't get along with everyone...

Also, had the attention of everyone in the post office..opened Judy's package with the birthday card and envelopes and went on and on about you all..they were under the impression that we were all friends who had moved away over the years and kept in touch..lol...so I had to tell them how lovely you all are...

So with that, I'm off to la/la land..have a lot of dreaming to do, but not before I pray for all of our friends who are in need tonight...

Hi everyone! Home from DS's baseball game. I will just say it was a S-A-D game! 15-0 (we were the 0). BUT DS had the best night of anyone! He made 2 of the 3 hits and stole 4 bases and was catcher for 3 innings and then went on to play RF, 1st & SS. It was honestly, the best I have ever seen him play! Anyway, get gets to pitch at the next game so I will take pics of him on the mound!!

Well, I took my half day and can I just say, it was sooooooooooo nice! I got home around 11:00; DS around 11:15. He watched TV and I got my new People magazine and went and layed in the hammock until DD got home at 12:30. DD brought home 2 friends and was heading to a movie at 2pm so I took everyone to Chick-Fil-A and then dropped the DD and friends at the movie. DS and I went back home and I changed into my duds and hit the yard! The past 2 nights, I have made some stones to use for filling in the corners and I got it all done today. I also bought a bunch of Blue Star Creeper and planted little clumps all along the outside of the stones in the hope that it will spread throughout the stones. I decided since weeds seem to grow fine in the gravel I put down, might as well plant a ground cover instead. I would LOVE to finish the remaining 3 "fingers" that come out from the center but I don't think I can get that done all this year. I might try to get some done. Anyway, here are a few pictures of what I have done.

Y'all have a good night!

PS - remember my saga over the new bed DH and I purchased back in OCTOBER? So I ahve the mattress/boxspring but we never have rec'd the bed because the company filed bankruptcy. Anyway, they are still open and trying to fill orders but ours still hasn't come in so I talked to a lady today who said to just come into the store and find another bed that we can have now. So DH and I are heading out tomorrow to hopefully (and finally) pick out a bed!!! DH said he'll believe it when he's laying in it!

Quoting:
O, and for the 2nd year i am trying to grow pennyblacks - not a one came up for me last year. They are supposed to be black with white edges.

i did the spring version of wintersowing some of my pennyblacks yesterday. If that doesn't work, i'll try to direct sow in May.

Betty - it is amazing how rude some people can be. But just think, maybe you made an impression that will have a positive effect on him in the future!

GG - is your blue star creeper Laurentia? That was another one that i didn't get anything from the seeds i direct sowed last year. Did you buy plants or seeds? i don't know if i've ever seen a plant. But that i would try.

best: um, watching (on TV) Nelson Figueroa pitch for the Mets, and win, his 1st game at Shea, after being drafted by them 13 years ago. Since then, he has bounced around the majors and minors, playing in leagues in Mexico and Taiwan. It sorta gives one hope.
worst: packing up two envelopes with seeds for other DGers, taking time to get it all done before racing out to do errands - and then forgetting to go to the post office. sheesh.

I just got back from Vegas seeing my Colorado friends. I had so much fun that I was smiling all the 3 1/2 hours home because I heard that they may move to Vegas which will be so much more easy to see them often. I loved them so much. We were neighbors and always thanked God we had that time together. We went looking in Alleys where old houses were and waited for the family to throw out all the antiques that they didn't want when the family members died old and we would see something far off in the alley and say, "I got dibb", sometimes it was something so horrible and it was a big joke between us, that once we saw it up close, "You have dibbs Deb".

We deadheaded people plants in midnight raids when we were young. It was a fun and special time for us that we knew would not ever be the same again, but would be cherished by us for all of our mentally sound years.

I missed too much to comment on it, so forgive me. Shar I loved seeing you over in the Parking lot. My other home. B stops in once in a while to find me. lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shiisshhhh...up at 4am on a Saturday morning and am playing with stained glass..imagine that..We have thunder and lightning and Sailor doesn't do well, she howls and fusses, very nervous so up I am to keep her company..

On the good side it will give me time to get everythng I and Rita will need today and make a small lunch as there are no stores nearby...

Jeannine, your garden piece is absolutely beautiful, now will you plant different ground covers to mingle inbetween the rocks? Happy bed hunting..I get such a kick out of a commercial that comes on..it's for Lyons furniture..a couple is walking around their house telling everyone just how pleased they are with each room and their contents, and when they get into the bedroom the wife positions herself on the bed and the hubby goes on and on about it being the best bedroom set he's ever had, camera shoots in on his face and he says, "and it got rid of her headaches'..lol

Dawn, always nice to visit with old friends isn't it..the years of not seeing them quicly fades and all the past memories come back..true bond..must be something to just take a drive to Vegas...

Yesterday afternoon after shopping I dropped in to Fred Hooks to see Greg for a minute and his secretary was telling me that a neighbor was in Vega last week and fell ill, so DH arranged to have her flown back here and transfer to Barrie Hospital..so the children and DH got to the Hospital to wait for her arrival and after 4 hours of waiting they started to call around and no one knew where she was...after many frightening hours they found out that she had a heart-attack and they brought her back to hospital and she was in emerg. DH decided to take a flight to Vegas to be with her...so when finally they had her stable they got her to Barrie...children arrived at hospital and they got her settled in, she looked at them all and said, "it's so nice to be here with all of you" closed her eyes and died...

Amy don't you just hate it, getting yourself all organized only to forget what you most wanted to do..I'm getting better at making a list, problem is, the one thing I forget IS the list...

Well, off to make some porridge, might settle the tummy, storm seems to have passed, Sailor sitting by my side..
I'm going to look forward to reading all about your day..

Mine might be quiet as most of the gabbers aren't coming..lol..but then, there is still Auntie Muriel..she'll entertain us..

Vicki, love your 'special pal' gift...funny how everyone seems to know what special gift to send...

Was back to see if anyone was up, looking to fill their early morning hours..I'm packed ready to go but still have 2 hours to go...

So I'll ramble here a bit! Doing my 2nd load of washing, went to put the 1st into the dryer and lordy lordy it was full of washed kleenex, and wouldn't you know it would be in the dark load, so I'm ranting and raving-someone left a big wad of kleenex in the slacks..d..n.....hello/hello I'M the ONLY one living here, so guess it was me~ Don't you just hate it when you can't blame something on someone else..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still nobody to play with..I know, you are all dreaming of earthly angels (yes you've got one nearby), of all good things yet to come, your gardens... and me, well I'm bored to tears and it's not 8am yet..

So, I've packed everything, made my lunch and extra's just incase someone forgets..I've done 2 loads of wash/dried and put away, I've washed all my floors, puppy and cat paws make a mess, cut out daffodils and greenery for stained glass, I've put the holders on all 10 cup/saucer birdfeeders (that took less than 5 minutes) came across the $3.00 mailbox I bought last weekend already painted but YUK so I've put the roller and blue paint to it ..I'll let it dry and if I feel like doing something tonight I'll paint garden gloves, spade, seed packets on it and get it ready so that when I do get to put out the feeders, birdhouses etc. I can secure it as well for my garden equipment...so now, I'm here, saying hello, wanting to play and gab, bags on the verandah steps, coffee made and waiting to be picked up...

So I guess when you get up early and you put in 4 hrs. before everyone gets up, you sure can do a lot...lol...

I hope today is a wonderful day for all of you....

Morning Betty,
I'm laughing at your Kleenex story..I have done that..forgotten to check all the pockets.
Amazing about that lady waiting to see her family before passing on...and so good for her fmaily to be able to see her and have her home.
My neighbour's step dad (82) just passed away on Thursday..he had just taken posession of a brand new car 10 days ago..and they had taken a trip to the Port Perry casino just a couple of days before..lived well right to the end. I had taken a photo of him, surrounded by family at a birthday party a couple of years ago..made a card with that photo on it..and also printed a photo and put it in a frame to give as my condolence.

GG..love your herb garden walkway..you have put a lot of hard work into it..the white picket fence and arbour are lovely..everyone's dream I think.

This talk of a Black garden of Sharon's is interesting..I am looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Ves..nice goodies from your Secret pal. I think everyone likes to have these little home fragrances..especially when the house is all closed up during winter. I sure hope you get to see your green grass soon.

I planted a packet of nastursiums and they are growing under lights in the basement. I also have some MG's doing well.
I'm don't grow much from seed...but a few things are fun to see growing while we wait till the better weather.
If I direct sow things in the garden I really have to protect them..the rabbits love to eat young plants.

Dawn..great story about your old friends..made me smile as I read about it.

Liz....I think you are like Betty with all your projects on the go.

When I was cleaning out the garage the other day I put out a small tricycle on the road ..a really sturdy metal one that I had had out in the garden with a basket planted with flowers...well it needed to be repainted and the straps on the bakset had broken..and I am trying to simplify things a bit here ...... a man came by and picked it up..saw me and said "thanks..I have a great idea for it" It made me happy to give it to him..and I'll bet he has the same idea as I had with the flower basket. I'm sure he will paint it all up again and get a pretty basket for it and it will amuse others..

Well Have a great day all..

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Betty..we cross posted..you make my head spin with all your energy.

I have an old mailbox on a tree stump out int he Secret garden...looks like a barn...and I put a trowel and so on in it.

Yours will be beautiful.

Howdy ya'll - Had to skip quite a few of the posts, hopefully will go back later and read. I nee to get outside for a bit. Judy, I am adding your name to list of seeds to send out. I have plenty of them to share.

BBL all. Have a good Saturday.

Ruby

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Ruby may I have a few of the castor bean seeds? Always love your posts. The pictures of your yard were interesting. It's always fun to see if they look like what I imagine and yours was better and the house was a different style. LOL I have to show DH what your DH made for you. But when I am done posting.

Betty I know you are probably gone but have a good day. Love the boots! I can see everyone in my neighborhood driving by (deadend road) to see if I was outside working if I had a pair of those!

Shar do you have your weekend planned? How's your weather?

Liz Dog search has slowed down. But I'm hoping something will just show up! Now that is wishful thinking! The snow has stopped so the roads might not be too bad when I go to work in 4 hours. Then I have 3 days off and I really have to get my butt in gear. When I repotted the petunia starts I got a flat plus out of it. I even threw a couple of small ones out. Don't forget to share your projects with us.As if you would! Hope the wire works on the feeder.

Laura hugs coming your way. Hope these issues are working their way out of your system. Can't wait to see the pictures of what you are making.

Jeannine showed DH your walk and he was impressed! He knows how much work it was. Good luck on finding that bed!

Hello Judy.amy Carol.Dawn and to whoever I missed. Have to get going.

Hope you all have the day you need.

Crozet, VA

Hi Vicky - Sure, I will add your name to the list of folks getting Castor Beans. The more the merrier. ha-ha

I just spent a little while outside looking at all the pretty blooms. I did some planting a couple of times last week, major planting yesterday and so I just finished watering some of them with the water hose. Watering the plants is my favorite garden chore. I just stand there, all alone with my thoughts. It seems to be one of the times that I am most relaxed.

Well, I have a lot to do, so will run along. See you good people later on.

Ruby

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi all - well just got back from our latest bed search and can I just say...the saga continues! We went the main store and found 2 beds we liked. The first one the lady said would take maybe 4 weeks and of course DH and I just roll our eyes cause heck, it's been 6 months already!! So she calls the rep to make sure they can get it and fast and while she is doing this, I look at bed #2 and decided I like that one better. So I tell her we want this one and come to find out it's almost $1000 MORE then the other one. Well, I said we are not paying a penny more so I guess we will take bed #1. Sooooo, liike I said before, until I am laying in the bed in our bedroom, I won't be convinced we're actually getting one!

Had thunderstorms come thru this morning - right when DD and I were in Wal Mart and of course it was pouring when we came out. Nice and sunny and warm now so I'm sure we'll see more storms before the day is over.

Thanks for all the walkway comments. It is hard (time-consuming) to make them but when it's all done, I love it! Starzz, you asked about the Blue Star Creeper. It is "Isotoma fluviatus" and Betty, this will spread throughout the stones (I hope!). I'm going to go out and buy another set of them ($10 for six 3" pots at Lowes) today and try to plant it all around the entire walkway area.

Well, off to dabble in the yard and start laundry (oh boy!) I'll cehck back with y'all later!

Jeannine

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i think it was me who asked... Sounds like a different kind - thanks!

Best-----Found out I could access DG at work on my computer--just have to be careful WHO walks into the Phone Center, as DG is NOT Work-related.....Looked at a lot of Posts....:o)

No Worst---just my usual procrastination with what needs to be done.....

What I (learned--know anyway)--everything WILL get done--no matter how far I push it to the "back of the table"......

Hello there, it's been a long time since 4am..lol..must tell you though it will not be a late night, bath & something to eat and off I go..just got in, saw Kyle's bike outside and helmet inside so he must be somewhere in the neighborhood..

It was a fun day...you know it was not something I wanted to do because lighthouse just isn't country, so I changed things a bit and still have greenery to put coming out of the window flower boxes, the fencing around the top where I'll include rope and some bottom rope as well, so probably another hour or so in the morning, spray it and it will be ready for outside...

Rita and Jerry (friends) both enjoyed it..of course I had other ideas for them as well..we used 'dap' to give it texture...

Want to see...

Here is Jerry and Rita's..they live on the water and will place it the shoreline rocks..will look great..theirs is red and white and they've not done the rope edging either or windows..she'll do that at home tomorrow as well...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze

Jerry was a great help..did some of the sanding and even cut/drilled some of our wood along with DB Bernie...

Everyone was having a great time..

Victoria Harbour, ON

So with some tweeking i.e. window frames and greenery I'm ok with the project..must tell you I sure got razzled because of the curtains in my windows..lol..but mostly because my new rubbers seemed to match the bottom rock that I painted..girls told me to give up my boots, fill them with dirt and flowers and set them near the lighthouse (or whatever I'm going to call it...

So here's mine...ALMOST finished...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Forgive me if I don't gab at this time, I'm off to warm up and am a little tired..perhaps I'll be back later this evening to gab..(think I gabbed to you all enough early this a.m.) lol

Best of today..had a great time working on this project..

Worse of today..shouldn't have told DB Bernie that Jerry was an Ontario Provincial Police..seemed the only thing they could talk about and Jerry was uncomfortable I think..or maybe it was me thinking it...

What did I learn..that I was brave enough to tell my mom (she called) that with working on mine I didn't have time to do hers nor did we have room to bring hers here...probably SIL will have to do it for her...

So dear friends..I loved reading your posts, but I'm noding off..please forgive...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Hi everyone. It was hot here today. My bottle transplant seedlings that were flopped over are still mostly flopped but living and not looking too bad. Some are raised up a bit so we will see. Greg took care of the yard while I was gone and did a good job but as he did it, he said he couldn't believe how much I had done and was hopeful about how nice it will be this summer. He kept telling me how much he liked it. That was nice.

Greg had an episode today while we were moving our friend. He forgot to take his BP Medicine this morning and his heart was pounding out of his chest. We finished fast thank the good Lord so he went home and took his pills and we took a good nap today, it was so nice to do it, it had been a while since I did.

I love your pix, Starz. So different the style of plants in the different areas. I love big leafed plants, few do well in the desert. I love a good fig tree, they do well here.
