What was the first record/single you ever bought?

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

I laughed when I read this particular part of the Doggie story because I remember being yelled at for singing "how much is that doggie in the window, the one with the waggly tail" over and over and over and over.....

"Despite its original popularity, "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" gained a reputation for being especially obnoxious."

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

okay, just read through this thread and you all made me feel sooo young! (thank you!) I'm turning the big 4........0...sh**! this weekend and was feeling kinda blue ;-( feeling better now though! I've always loved music, old and new... so I've listened to ALOT of the songs you were all referring to. :-)

My first album that I bought with my own money (not a hand me down from older siblings!) was....
Shawn Cassidy LOL! ugh!

Not as bad as my older sisters though........talk about an annoying song :
Thats the way uh uh I like it, uh uh! KC and the sunshine band....

I MUCH prefer 'how much is that doggie in the window!' LOL!

I knew I was getting old wehn my 11 yr old asked my what a 'cassette tape' was. and then my daughter really rubbed it in when I couldnt figure out where the cd went in my new car....she pointed out the tiny crack in the dashboard and expected me to shove the $25 CD that I just bought into that little crack......it worked! LOL!

BTW Herbie, my DH (who is much older than I am LOL!) bought the 'turntable' gadget to transfer all his vinyl to cds for about $150 at Radio shack. they are really coming down in price, but it takes a long time to burn them, he has to uplaod them on the puter, then burn them onto CDs. All my vinyl records are long gone........Shawn Cassidy, Bee Gees, john Travolta, oh and Olivia Newton John.... also had box car willie, john denver, even a few of madonnas singles! LOL!

Annoying songs could be another thread! LOL
It was funny, that doggy in the window song popped in my head and stuck there a day before I read it here. I didn't know about all the flack it created. Very interesting. I can see where it could drive people nuts.

The songs I thought were cute, then turned annoying are:
Ghostbusters theme
Who let the dogs out
and the Whitney version of I will always love you.
I also have to add the C. Dion...Titanic song too. That is a beautiful song that was shoved down our throats until we could no longer bear to hear it.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Shawn Cassidy's "Da Do Run Run Run, Da Do Run Run".......... Happy Birthday Anjl!

(Zone 7a)

Ooooo, David Cassidy (his brother) used to be the guy I was gonna marry!!! LOL

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Lol! Its 'ta doo run run run, TA doo run run!'
Now its stuck in my head! Better than 'sweet caroline........' LOL!
And yes, I even had the pink satin shawn cassidy jacket -thanks to my sister :-)

Glenview, IL

Oh, OH...Kwajin, Sorry Davids Heartbeat is all mine!!
LOL been for years.

Anjl..How cute your lil one had to show you the CD in vehicle! Amazing isn't it.
Happy B-day to you.

Ah, ha...Did you hear that Herbie??? Same thing you were looking for that I was talking about...haha, again!..

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

thanks, but its not my birthday yet! Not til sunday anyhow.... and I am definitely not celebrating this one! LOL!

I was also completely in love with Donny Osmond. Many years later, I took my son to the fair and Marie Osmond was singing there. My little son sat mesmerized by her. Kept blowing her kisses from the audience (he was only 3) and I was so amused that he also could enjoy the sister of the man I was completely in love with (for a few months anyway!) when I was much younger ;-) it was like a circle of time LOL!

(Zone 7a)

Back in the day, that comment would have started a hair-pulling contest, Seed!!! ROTFLOL

oneanji - at 40 you are still jail bait. OMG can i say that here. i apologize in advance.

i saw that gadget in a magazine and was not sure if i would be able to download the records and then record them. i am not to cool on a computer.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL! no, my kids arent even jail bait anymore! but thanks! LOL!

I too am not computer savy, but more so than my DH, and HE ws able to figure it out without any input from me.... so it cant be all that bad! LOL!

Although he did mention that it would be faster to download and burn them if he had an external hard drive as well.... dont know what all that means, but we still dont have the external hard drive , and he's still burning cds! LOL!

Anyone remember snoopy and the red baron? I was real little and my dad worked swing shift and would come home and wake us up in the middle of the night to play! He'd play the record and fly us all around the room! I dont remember anything about the album, just remember all the flying in the middle of the night! LOL! anyhow, would love to hear the album again...maybe I should do a search on the web...

oh my gosh! that was sooo great! my father passed away 17 yrs ago. funny I dont remember anything about it being a christmas son, just remember flying and my dad or the record making all these gun noises and airplane noises... there was also always a 'crash landing' back into bed! We were supposed to go back to sleep then, but what 3 yr old could sleep after so much excitement! lol!
(my mom HATED that album! ) LOL!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

every year right after thankswgiving our local radio station begins playingchristmas music and i heard that song about 5 times a day.

Santa Fe, NM

At least it wasn't the Chipmunks!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

oh! I LOVE the chipmunks! did anyone see their movie this year? I wanted to, but my grandson was only 8 days old and well..... guess I have to wait for the DVD ;-D

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

the very worst christmas song was the one with those dogs barking to the tune of jingle bells. LOL

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We could do a few threads on the worst song ever but "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" annoyed me greatly.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

oh no, not the one by brenda lee who i was secretly in love with year ago??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm afraid so, Herbie. Sorry.

Glenview, IL

Herbie and Pirl , so funny!

Well, Kwanjin, You would be bald today!! ROFL.

(Zone 7a)

I think we BOTH would be bald!!! ROTFLOL

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Loved Brenda Lee but that particular song got on my last nerve.....still does actually.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

where is our christmas spirit??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's rockin' around the Christmas tree, Herbie!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

was it Dolly Pardon who sang.."I never promised you a rose garden?"

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

The first record I ever bought was by Brenda Lee I'm sure because I was really into her but darn if I can think of which one it was, that was a long time ago lol It was a 45 :) I'll have to think about that! My first record player is hanging in the garage, mom and dad never threw anything away lol I wonder if it works still, oh, I have some 45's in the closet that they saved to I'll have to look and see if it's there...nope wasn't in there but there were a few records from the ceral boxes from Bobby Sherman lol Those were my sisters I'm sure she was ten years younger.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i am sure dolly never sand that song and the woman who did sing it is on the tip of my tounge but i can't quite come up with it.
maybe it was someone with the name "gale" or "patty"

lebug - how about "i want to be wanted" that was one of her first hits

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Patsy Cline? I dont think thats it. I can hear her voice, and its driving me mad trying to remember the name.... Lorretta Lynn?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynn Anderson -- I just looked it up on Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynn_Anderson

But then I got reading about her latest boyfriend, Mentor Williams (Anderson's fiance), who wrote the song, Drift Away, and that lead to his brother, Paul Williams, which made me think of Mason Williams (Classical Gas) and wonder if he was related. And that got me into The Smothers Brothers, for which Mason Williams was the head writer in 1967-68.

Well, as you can see, it took me about 2 1/2 hours to find out who sang that song LOL! I beg your pardon
I never promised you a row-ow-owse garden

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Yep, that was it Herbie, nice to know there was another Brenda Lee fan out there! :) Gosh that's been a long time ago lol

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Donny Osmond? Eeewwwwwww (sticking finger down my throat, gagging)! That guy is in love with himself! I'd like to give him a swift kick in the butt! lol! To each is own, I guess!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i have her greatest hits c.d. in my car. i listen to it all the time.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Didn't she go to religous songs isn't that why she quit singing pop music or was it country? I know I quit listening to her when she did.

(Zone 7a)

Mr Osmond et al, live not too far from us, as does Peter from The Brady Bunch. (Christopher Knight) I've heard that Donny was in trouble recently with drugs and alcohol problems.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

oh, but Donny had such a nice smile :o) (and I was only 3 or 4 years old! lol!)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

you guys are killing me!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i've never hear of brenda lee singing anything but country. i will hae to check the literature inside the c.d. because i think it says what she is doing now.

(Zone 7a)

BTW...Happy B-Day yesterday, oneanjl...
