Good on you Chrissy. Heart Full Of Soul is a great song. The first music I ever got was a Boney M cassette, which is kind of embarrsaing to admit by comparison.
What was the first record/single you ever bought?
Hey Herbie, Earth Angel here too!!!! I played it over and over.....I was born June, 1942. We are in the same era. I still love that song. Meem
Earth Angel was the one song we teens loved the most but the dance following church meetings had Father Sullivan going around separating couples who danced to it "too close". That was the whole idea!!!
It was a Michael Jackson album- Off the Wall.
Loved it!
OK...Herbie! I knew I wasn't going nuts...LOL for a change.
It is you who wanted one of those adapter things...
Asked you about it and you said ya didn't know what I gabbin about.
...it's me seedtossser!
Anyway, in case you don't remember, from pages ago, you wanted this adapter, you planted pictures on plates...I think! little hinting you were doing...Hey anybody else remember that???
Celia, Love Sunshine on my shoulders! My first was Dancing in the Moonlight!..Everybody,..
I bought the single tape of "Cold Hearted Snake" by Paula Abdul. I was so cool ; )
By-the-by...Happy B-day, Cparts!!!
Wow, you are fast. Thanks.
The kids are coming over and fixing me dinner tonight. What a treat!
Happy birthday.
Wasn't there a song - "Happy birthday, baby", or am I delusional?
Mine was a 33. The soundtrack to *Dark Shadows* soap opera. There were 10 or 12 songs. My parents were scared to death to hear what I had wasted my money on! They were very surprised, they liked it to!!! Early 70's history!
Lora☺
BTW, anyone remember 2 tracks? My hubB has a 2 track player. The tapes are about the size of old Gameboy games. But it is from the 60's.
I Think "Happy birthday, happy birthday baby, Oh I love you so....." is the intro to "Sixteen Candles". Can't remember the group, but it's from the late 50's or early 60's. God I'm old!!
We're probably close in age!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday to you!!!
Oh, Dark Shadows! Loved the record.
"Happy, Happy Birthday Baby" was recorded by the Tune Weavers. I think it was shortly after Edison discovered electricity.
Now, now. Weren't you taught to be kind to your elders? I could hit you with my kneeling pad!
Too funny. Thanks much for the birthday wishes. Had a great weekend with lots of company!
Belated wishes - Happy Birthday!
What a great thread. Right this very second RadioParadise.com is playing Grand Funk Railroad "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home." Do check it out. Great intermix of old and new. I've found some really great new artists there. Ummmmm, favorite so far are "The New Pornographers." Now, before you freak, they chose their name from a statement from Jimmy Swaggart that "rock is the new pornography."
Now I'm trying to remember which would have been my very first 45. For sure the very, very first was "Mighty Mouse," a great children's story......"Mighty Mouse, Mighty Mouse, the Mightiest Mouse of Alll !!!" That would have been about 1956. In the 60s I went kinda crazy with music so it's hard to remember which would have been the very, very first. Probably Everly Brothers, Johnnie Mathis (I have his Christmas Album too Herbie.....my favorite!) (who I saw in Detroit at Cobo Hall and will never, ever forget)....hmmmm, maybe The Shirelles....that might just have been the first.....
Anyway, way fun thread and don't forget to check out RadioParadise.
Love your name! Stellapathic. Are you?
16 candles was song by johnny maestro and the brooklyn bridge or the crests, i can't remember.
seedtosser - i still do not know what you are talking about.
cpart - happy woth bday.
last night on the pbs station they had an oldies show. one of the performess was the last living member of the drifters (of under the boardwalk fame). it was a good show but a lot of the original member are dyhing at a fast rate.
have a great day
I bought one of those various artists vinyls - a Disco one, that had "Disco Duck" and "The Hustle" on it. I think I can still do the hustle - I mean, who can't, lol!
Herbie, I love PBS - so does my cat when they are showing a nature show with animals or birds - amazing how he tunes right in and his ears perk up.
hi karrie - long time no talk. i'm ashamed to say that i was never a good dancer. i just about learned to do the "stroll" and never dared tried to do the lindy. my wife can do any dance but i have two left feet.
Hi Herbie! I'm a night owl tonight, you must be an early riser. Trust me, you could do the hustle!
Getting sleepy..... better go to bed before my keyboard becomes one. Take care and see you in the garden!
Ha...I bought Disco Duck (with macho Micky Mouse) album for my kids. I think the probably didn't forgive me that one.
1961 was the year Happy happy birthday baby was recorded. I'm a certified fossil.
maybe, but very well preserved. anyone have any paul and paula albumns (sp)?? i think i have one where she is sitting on a rocking chair and he is standing behind her. also have peter paul and mary at the bitter end. might be there first one.
OK fossils, here's one that will really show your age. I still remember some of the words to this song. I must have been 5 or 6 when my parents bought it for me. It might have been Berle Ives singing, but not sure. It went something like this: "Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair, Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't fuzzy, was he! Fuzzy Wuzzy lost his hair in a North Pole barber chair, ........".
Or did my parents buy me the only record sold?
You must be the same age as my husband, pasttime, he used to sing that to my baby daughter whose hair stuck straight up for months and months and months and months! (She looks great now, though, 23 years later)
I remember this as a funny poem, but not the record.
OK, off topic a teeny bit but pastime reminded me that I distinctly remember the very first songs that registered in my wee brain. First would be (and here's a little blurb from wikipedia about this particular song):
(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" is a popular novelty song written by Bob Merrill in 1952. It was adapted from a well-known Victorian music hall song.
The best-known version of the song was recorded by Patti Page on December 18, 1952 and released by Mercury Records as catalog number 70070, with the flip side "My Jealous Eyes." It reached #1 on both the Billboard and Cash Box charts in 1953. [1] However, Mercury, the record company which distributed Patti Page's recordings at the time, had poor distribution in the United Kingdom. Therefore, a recording by Lita Roza was the one most widely heard in the UK, reaching #1 on the UK charts in 1953. Lita's recording is widely known as the most elusive original record of a #1.
The song tells the story of a young woman who "must take a trip to California," and wants to buy a dog for her boyfriend so that he will not be lonely (and, presumably, not look for affection from another woman).
Despite its original popularity, "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" gained a reputation for being especially obnoxious. The critic Donald Clarke wrote that "Nobody knows how many music fans stopped listening to the radio after hearing 'Doggie In The Window' too many times."[2] This quality has made it a frequent object of parody.
It is played in the film Pink Flamingos during the film's infamous final scene, wherein Divine consumes dog feces immediately after a poodle defecates. The director of the film, John Waters, maintains that the scene was not faked.[3] In the Wallace and Gromit film The Wrong Trousers, Gromit's nemesis Feathers McGraw plays a droning calliope version of "Doggie in the Window" at a loud volume in an attempt to drive Gromit out of the house. It is also featured in the video game BioShock.
The other that stuck from my earliest memories was:
Cherry Pink (and Apple Blossom White)" is a popular song with music by Louiguy. French lyrics to the song by Jacques Larue and English lyrics by Mack David both exist and recordings of both have been quite popular. However, Perez Prado's recording of the song as an instrumental with his orchestra was the most popular version in 1955, reaching #1 on the Billboard charts.
The most popular vocal version was by Alan Dale, reaching #14 on the charts in 1955.
The song was featured in the movie Underwater! starring Jane Russell.
In 1961, Jerry Murad and the Harmonicats released an album featuring the song, also entitled Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White.
Cherry Pink...was great to dance the Cha Cha to in the 50's!
Oh, and kwanjin, yes, somewhat, but it's never predictable and totally uncontrollable. My family and closest friends recognize it instantly when it happens though and make remarks like "stellapathic strikes again!"

First song I can remember? Might be "I'm a Little Tea Pot". I can do the gestures that go with it And "EEncy, weency, Spider". Yes, I taught pre-school at one time. l.o.l. Always liked the singing and dancing.
I hate it when I post and it goes away! Anyway, thanks, pirl, for the link. That site is very cool.
Quite welcome.
Thanks for that compliment, Herbie!!!
