What was the first record/single you ever bought?

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

I have the soundtrack CD from the movie "Diner". It has Fats Domino, "Blueberry Hill"; Dion & the Belmonts, "I Wonder Why"; Eddie Cochran, "Somethin' Else"; Bobby Darin, "Beyond the Sea"; Tommy Edwards, "It's All In The Game", (my DH gets all sentimental when he hears it. We were dating when that song came out); Del Vikings, "Come Go With Me; Lots more I can't think of now. It's a great album and a cute movie set in the late 50's, early 60's. Some of the "Brat Pack" actors are in it. They look like babies!

Dion is going to be a guest on an Oldies show tonight!

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i recently burned 8 c.d.'s from my neighbor. they are all hits from the 50's. it has earth angel, in the still of the night, yackety yak, don't talk back, caira mia mine by jay black and the americans and a whole bunch of others. its great.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

you do know how they came up with that name don't you??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Dion and the Belmonts?

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

yes. they used to sing accupalla (sp) on the cornor of belmont ave in the bronx so thats the name they took.

if you really want to see a great show you have to see the jersey boys. there was so much i learned about them that i didn't know. for instance, joe pesci (the actor from good fellows and casino) was instrumental in bringing this group together.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Fun facts. I'd have guessed it was after Belmont State Park!

HERBIE43-
The soundtrack you need to get is American Graffiti if you love the music of that era.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Boy, I haven't seen that movie in a long time.

I just remembered my first album (would have been magical mystery tour, but my brother already had it) was
Iron Butterfly...In a Godda da Vita

Anyone remember that one. The album version had the greatest drum solo ever.

(Zone 7a)

Oh MY Goodness!!! You are all bringing back such memories! LOL I know all these songs.

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

We are all older than dirt.
When Paul sang "when I'm 64" I wondered what I would be like then, now it is just around the corner. I think I must have blinked. It went that fast.

(Zone 7a)

"...older than dirt..." I love that one. ☺

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I knew rocks that have turned to dust.

(Zone 7a)

ROTFLOL Out loud...

Then maybe you'd have enjoyed a birthday card I received from a relative (years ago) that said:

Celebrate your birthday...

take two naps.

Snoopy's Christmas LP

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

Does anyone remember the group Fever Tree?

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Um, no.
What did they sing?

(Zone 7a)

San Francisco Girls

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

It was something by Three Dog Night...

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i liked most of three dogs nights songs. i first remember them when i came out of the service in 1966.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

The lead singer from Fever Tree had such a great voice. Like so many bands, they got caught up in the San Francisco drug culture in the 70's. I think they're all deceased now but one.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

and the drugs are still taking toll on singers.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

You all are making this quite a nostalgic thread. You've got me thinking about songs that I used to listen to with my mother. Songs like Eddie Arnold's "I wouldn't trade the silver in my mother's hair for all the gold in the world" or Bobby Vinton's Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, or Connie Francis "where the boys are" I loved these songs and would listen to my mother's albums over and over again. And then I went for a ride last night and Jethro Tull came on and I loved JT. I forgot how much I loved all that music. But talk about from one extreme to the other.........

One more favorite......Alan Parson's Project.

Neil Diamong.. Solitary Man... I was so proud of that record...I think that is a sneaky question to find out everyones age lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL! Me, too, Lavender! My much older sister is the exact age of Misty's mother. LOL!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

My mother just turned 80 on Feb. 19th :)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Really? 80? And she had a Connie Francis album? (I loved that song, BTW) I guess my sister was sort of a stick in the mud even 45 years ago LOL!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I came along when Mom was 29. I can remember being about 8 years old and listening to that all the time. So we're talking 42 years ago. And what about Lipstick on Your Collar.........;)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

........told a tale on yooooooooouuuuuuuu!

Oh, I know all of them, even though I was only about 4 at the time.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Okay, we're all going to have to get together and do karaoke and that's all there is to it....

;) Kathy

Santa Fe, NM

This is a trip down memory lane! One of my first albums was by Simon and Garfunkle but I don't remember which one.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

oh I love the movie "where the boys are" ...one of my favorite oldies.

Santa Fe, NM

Karaoke? I don't think so. I'm the worst singer ever. I sang a Carol King song with my best friend once ("You've Got a Friend"?) in a recording booth at the state fair. Wish I could get ahold of that and send it to her now! She is the second worst singer ever.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

lol @ worst singer. Isn't that the point of Karaoke? Humiliating yourself in front of your friends with or without alcohol?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

ha, ha, ha......y'all are a hoot!!!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I absorbed the words to Mule Train, Sweet Violets and Teresa Brewer's "Put another nickle in, in the Nickelodeon" from vacations with the family.

(Louise) Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

ohhhhhh thats a whole new thread...family vacations and the songs we sang in the car...Kum Ba Ya...

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

i remember seeing neil diamond in concert in albany right after 9/11. the show opened with a 30 ft. flag being unrolled from the top of the stage to the bottom and then he walked out and started singing. it was definitely a tear jerker.

i also remember when connie francis was appearing in long island at the westbury music fair. after the show she was attacked in her hotel room and she was never the same after that. she has a great powerful voice.

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

Back in '69 we went to Chicago to see the Rolling Stones. They were an hour and a half late, so they had a fill in group come on stage to keep the audience from rioting. Out comes Chuck Berry. I thought he was dead! He put on the greatest show for us. When the Stones finally appeared they didn't get the same response as Chuck Berry did. I think that's the concert when the Stone's said they'd never come back to Chicago. Poor babies!
