hibiscus mutabilis... didn't even die back
Tropical garden #5
diehrd...GH is coming along, you should be out there now
The plant you asked about being a kaempferia is a calathea of some type. Might be able to find it in PF. One thing that's cool about kaempferias is that sometimes you can catch the ginger smell when you're close to it
the loquat looks tropical to me :)
yes i have yours in my room now... when would it be good to send them with the rest?
hmmm...it is march....whenever is good for you would be fine, I can make some room in the GH, thanks
nice colocasia abvove the lime zinger, which one is it, if you don't mind?
no idea on that one besides bug chow...looks like a ficus or croton would be my lazy guess???
diehrd, maybe I'm just tired, but the sand in the pots with the xanth lime zinger and the c. chicago harlequin---is that what's in your yard? If so gingers and lots of cool bulbs would do well there. Did the crinum bloom for you?
yeah... some places have organic typical swamp type dirt but others have sand... it just depends. the crinum didn't bloom yet, but it did do well
soil envy...lol
lol that's a first.! i put your seeds in the mail and added some extras just for fun.... and space. i hope i put enough postage on
WoooHoooo!!! Thank you!!
LOL--from experience, they will bring it back to you. It only happened once when printed the labels and postage online. They weigh the package when they pick it up.
I guess I didn't include any of the local red clay for you to sample awhile back?...soil envy...lol
i put two first class ones on there... oh well. we had clay in Columbia, but that was because we were right on the fall line. the rest was sand... red sand
Jeri, thank you for all your help. After doing a lot of reading about the Queen Palm, I wish that I could leave it in the greenhouse. There is a good chance that it will die if it gets down in the teens next winter. But it is way too tall for my little GH, and has to be moved.
diehrdsouthrnr, thanks for showing us your babies, they all look very good. I wish that my 16yr. grandson likes plants insted of playing base guitar in a rock band. I know about the clothes on the floor.
Your greenhouse is coming along nicely. I really like the plant called Zamia integrifolia, it looks very familiar to me.
The plant in your post ar10:19 is a chalice vine.
Alocasia Borneo giant.

diehrdsouthrnr
that is a nice greenhouse.
wow your yard is going to be a real jungle this summer. i love the zamias.the zebra butterflies love them. the plant at 1022 looks like a papyrus if you ever need to cut it cut the stem and stick it upside down in water and a new one will grow from that.
rita not sure which bromeliad you have until it flowers. the pink one is nice but a nightmare to cut back old ones, the leaves are very rigid and sharp.
the smaller bromeliads i like to attach to palms.
i would love some borneo giants. i hope maybe i could get some at the big ear feast. they have some at fairchild tropical gardens here in miami and they are massive.
thanks, both of yall. placenciarita i have a post at 10:20 and 10:18, but not 10:19... do you mean 11:19?
diehrdsouthrnr, I noticed that candela refer to a 10:22 post and I do not show that time on my computer. I will use thePost# in the future.
Candela, I like the Idea of putting bromeliads on trees. I noticed that RJ had some on a tree in his crossvine picture too.
I have a few neoregelia fireball that I have in a window box. I will have to transplant them because they are not getting enough sun where they are. They are supposed to be red.
i know why thee times were caddywhompoused.... its the time difference between zones! i'm so smart! lol j/k ;-) nice blooms. speaking of your greenhouse, MINE IS DONE TOO!!!! only the shelves to put up, and i'll be set to use it!
diehrd. you are very smart. Congratulations on getting your greenhouse completed. I know that you will enjoy it immensely.
After a couple days of excellent weather, this week started out rainy and windy and is supposed to get worse. I will probably spend most of the week in my greenhouses redoing hanging baskets and repotting overgrown plants.
It will smell good with these brunfelsia blooming.
those are so pretty, rita, which one is that?
I'm just learning about Brunfelsia, they have cool common names, I ike how latifolia is also called "Kiss me Quick".
I actually haven't seen one in person, just pictures so thanks for the eye candy!
me neither....its on my 2 do list
