rita
even though i knew they are brunfelsia i didn't know that yesterday, today, and tommorrow smelled. my neighbor has a huge bush in the front of his house i will have to smell the next time i walk the dogs. is it only at night like the others?
Tropical garden #5
You have some awsome hibiscus Rita!
LOL, I am catching up on posts, and I must say it is I who is learning from you on the landscaping and things!
My Brunsfelsia don't smell, I do have some white ones that are fragrant, but my version of the ytt don't smell.. It doesn't stop me from checking...
I like your threads..it's like a mini forum! so..I'll post the re-landscaping picts. I pretty much finished it this weekend, and of course there is detailing and tweaks to go yet, but for the most part the boulders are in. I even planted the area already..Had tons of full grown plants already for that instant gardener in me. I planted Bottle brush tree, Holmskoldia tettensis (tahitian hat, chinamens hat) Hibiscus, Jesamine I grew from a seed, powderpuff tree, bamboo, clerodendrum minnahasse, clerodendrum panticulatum,
and left 1 large brug, cream queen I grew from a seed several years ago. I saved that one because the trumpets are huge, and have 8 points instead of 6.
First picture is what the area looked like before
candela, I got all bundeled up and went to the greenhouse to do a smell check, it is sleeting out there. There is definitely a light jasmine fragrance for sure. I brought some up to the house for DH to check and he also liked the smell. It is more fragrant at night time.
Check-out this Croton with the funnel shaped leaf extensions, cool plant $3. at lowes
Rj, fantastic job, I like how you have the rocks arranged, a job like that would have taken me 3-4 months to get done.
That is some good eye candy that will last for a while, great before and after pictures.
I am worried though, I can not see your big fern tree. I hope that it is still there.
Just beautiful. How is your back doing after placing all those rocks?
Ahh..some of them were a bit of a struggle. I had a dolly which really came in hand as I had to slide a couple of them right on to the dolly. For the most part though, it was just a good work out.
Fern tree is still fine, that section is only the left hand corner of the garden, where as the fern is situated on the right hand side close to the deck. It's trying to swallow the whole section though..I took this photo yesterday.
Rj , well I am glad that the fern is safe and putting out new shoots, It will probably take a couple of days to see all the stuff that you have in the new bed. I always go back for a second and third look at your pictures.. I just saw that you have the bird bath fountain running. cool idea.
Thanks..I'm always recycling things in different places in the garden. I'm wanting to make a brick path like you have on the right side of that area..I left a two foot wide area on the right side of that landscaping next to the green house...
I love statues..I went to the "I can't afford it" nursery a couple weeks ago and fantasized over the giant water fountains, statues, and wondered what a topiary giraffe would look like in the garden.
RJ, you can tell from past pictures that I like statues too. My DH thinks that they should be made with wheels for people like me that have to move them every year.
You can do quite a lot with 2 ft. of space. I did a lot with much less room than that. It was going well until I ran out of dirt.

RITA, Do you take any pictures of the great snow storm of 3/3/08 ? Jerry
wish statues were more affordable! I see a little bit of one on the right there..almost looks like mine. I love the way you have the plants, the texture, colors all very nice. Do you relocate them outside during the warm season, or do you remove the cold frame and leave it all there?
So when I'm in Dallas next month do I get to visit the Texasbigleaves garden????
Christi is going to make an app. with Rita. Let me know if I can bring anything up. I am bringing a truck load of plants for Christi.
Cool plant Candela...the crushed coral, is that where they kind of cement it together?
Here's the bromeliad clutch with the cross vine blooming
wow what a deep red color. is that a topiary lizzard hiding? cute. i spy some ginger too.
the coral is just old coral rock that is in the ground here and crushed coral is just tiny coral gravel guess.(i usually get the coral rock from a cemetary near here they dig up the ground and it is all coral rock so they pile it out by the street.) is that sacreligious?
cassie
Naa..I don't think so...I have that coral rock as a drainage substance deeper down in the garden. I often dig it up when I'm doing projects..
Yes, topiary lizard that Janet (uniquetreasures) made for me last year.
Ginger too, I choped it to the ground last spring. It's tall stuff.
I haven't had much luck in getting those kind of bromeliads to bloom. You have just inspired me to plant that type by the rocks...
LOL, I'm like Cassie...there will be no grass very soon!
I enjoy that particular greenhouse in the gloom of winter. I can still play with my plants.
My DH swears a lot when we have to put it up or take it down, but it is cheeper for him if I go to the greenhouse instead of the mall.
Beautiful azalea, my encore azaleas are not blooming either.
This is my pinch pot. Whenever someone would give me a pinch of their plant or a sprig rescued from the nursery parking lot, it goes in this pot until it gets established.
I really like the idea...I was thinking about putting it over the back driveway, but then I would miss out on the permanent landscape idea that you have going on. I really like that and I would spend time in it during the winter like you.
LOL...I have the same thing going on, only I call mine the stick bucket! It's funny how alike we gardeners are no matter where we're located!
EE's that never went away this winter.
same here on the pinch pot/ stick bucket, only mine don't have names...yet. i have like, 5 of those!
it looks really cool... kinda symmetrical. has it bloomed?
what is the plant behind it? that has the little nodes on it?
i would take you up on it, but now i am alittle over-committed to other stuff... maybe later.. thx for the offer... and yes what is that "nodey" thing in the back?
aaah...Molly Helper is stealing the show there!
Rj, my post just disappeared last night (strange). My reply was that I am a great fan of the colocasia esculenta. They can get very tall and are quite impressive, with their black stems in the background. Mine went dormant except for the one in the covered GH which still has a few leaves.
These little cuties did real well this winter. I will be looking for a few more for a front border.
how hardy is that A.branchifolia, do you now?
That's very cool Rita...I'll photograph my ee's and see if I can add to your collection, although with Big leaves there...sounds like your well supplied...mabe my plant containers won't come back empty...where is Big leaves? must be gardening like crazy
