candela, I did not know people in Florida ever got colds/sore throats? Hope you are better now! I've never gotten thru a winner without a bad cold or the FLU. What is the plant in your post #4633432? Is that a little singing frog? Jerry

candela, It's strange the last time i was in Miami for the I.A.S. show i went to Bal Harbour and Surfside on my way to West Palm Beach. Allso I was only 1 mile from LariAnn, and did not know it. Jerry

Drapelady, the plant at the top of the thread is a crinum Queen Emma. It is not winter hardy here in 8a, but I have a crinum americanum with white spider-like blooms. It is almost as nice as the Queen Emma and can take the cold. I can send you a start of those if you want it.
I also have this noid that is winter hardy.

candela, you are making me homesick with those mango blossoms and all that sunshine.
That root system on that vanda is very impressive. You have a very inviting yard.

Debbie

Red Oak, TX

Texasbigleaves, maybe it is a good thing that your hibiscus and bougainvelles are not blooming now. Mine always blooms a lot before spring, then nothing after I put them out.

jerry you were less than a 2 miles from me too if you were in bal harbour/surfside. what kind of birds are they. i would love to get some peacocks but they are pretty loud and i don't think my neighbors would appreciate. there was a stray chicken around for awhile.

my double rangoon creeper doesn't look great i hope it is just the cold we had last week.

Candela, Sorry i do'nt know their name. They migrate through in spring and fall. The white wing doves have come up from the south and are here all of the time now. Peacocks are a sure way to get you run out of your neighborhood for sure for sure! What is that plant in post# 4633432?????? I have been looking for a double rangoon creeper, maybe i can find one when i come down for THE BIG FEST in may. Jerry

Dallas, TX

candela, Calathea? Know it's name? Have not seen one like it. Jerry

Dallas, TX

drapelady, Question, do you make draperies? Jerry

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Yes, I own a small drapery business. I go out and measure and then come back to the shop and design, then I make them. (with alot of help). If I could figure out how to sew, plant, and type at the same time, I'd be doing real good.

the regular rangoon creeper i had at my first house and it gave off alot of seeds so i hope this one will too. i can take you guys to a couple of my favorite places when you come. i hope your bringing a truck or uhaul to take all of your plants back with you.

Thankyou Candela. We installed that last week and it came out great.

Texas, you are right , it can very quickly. Thank God I have some good help.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

It barely scraped by at 50F and is on it's way into the 30's tonight.
Lets cross our fingers that this is winters last parting gift

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Well , I just went and put all my babies back under wraps and in the shop. Some I brought into my workroom so I can enjoy them and keep them warm. The wind is blowing so hard and the temp is dropping fast. Yes, I too hope this is it. Next year, like my friends at MS tried to tell me, I will keep them in the GH (the Lord willing I get one) until ALL chance of frost and cold is over. Too much work , in, out, in , out. LOL

Dallas, TX

Question #1, What is the name of this pitcher plant look alike? This clump is about 20-25 years old. Jerry

Question #2, What is the name of this plant? I found it at a plant show, no name or tag. Plant in sun or shade? Jerry

Thumbnail by texasbigleaves
Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL..don't worry ..I do the same thing...I don't take all fo the plants out ..but there are a few that benefit from being out this time of year (notice the justifcation...this is known to make one feel better...) . It also adds to the beauty of your patio or deck on those in between sunny days (is it working?)

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Jerry I think #1 is a jack in the pulpit.

Jeri

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Jerry, #2 is a heuchera but not sure which one, they like shade

Rita, it looks like your pink crinum is J.C.Harvey, possibly

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

i think jeri's right. they're so cool...always wanted to try them. i think they can grow in the wild around here in boggy areas. the other one looks like a Heuchera (sp?). i killed a couple. LOL they like shade and i had difficulty with them in the heat this summer. (if that's even what it is.)

Dallas, TX

Jeri11, Tropicanna, Ashleykelly, Thanks for your help.Ashleykelly let me know and i will send you some. Thanks Again. Jerry

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Rj LOL, yes, at some point I just had to see some green. But this year, when Jeri and Riverland start posting that they are bringing the plants into the Green houses, I'm going to haul mine in too. When I need a fix, I'll do what Jeri did, go sit out in the GH. I will try to get me some evergreens and some artificial flowers to stick in them and just be happy til spring. Yea right. LOL

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

it has been thunder and lightening all night, now the temperature dropped it is nice and cool.it is suppose to get in the 50's tonight.

i see one more indication of spring. the coral tree(erythrinia) is just starting to flower soon this tree will look like it is on fire.
