Spring is right around the corner. There are signs and promises of it everywhere.
Show us your first buds and flowers in your tropical garden. They are all beautiful and welcome.
Rj, could you show one more time a picture of your Eranthemum pulchellum (blue sage)? She is so beautiful.
Diehrdsouthrnr, this is for you.
Tropical garden #5
thanks! i feel so loved! guess what!!!! the cordyline negra is making an inflo!!!! Placenciarita, you can have some seeds if you want
candela, your begonias are so big and healthy. Will you give me a few tips on getting mine to look like that? Should I keep them dry or damp? How often should I feed them? Any tips will be appreciated.
I am running out of blooms in the greenhouse, so I am depending on gardeners in the warmer climate for a little color.
Lime Zinger in GH.
rita i would suggest going to the begonia forum and look at the sticky thread. it has all sorts of info on care. all of my rhizomes are in the ground and there is no real maintenance involved. i do give them a little osmocote whenever i remember (which translates into not often). the rexes are gorgeous but i have no luck with.
it has kinda just stopped for a while... i have a four day weekend, so i'm hoping to gte some done tomorrow, but i also have shcool projects and my dad has landscaped a friends house, and they want to pay me $10/hr to carry out the plans and install the plants, so it kinda got lost in the midst of the hustle and bustle... the seeds would be a gift in return for the great surprise you gave me when we traded, so don't worry about trading.... unless there is something you absolutely HAVE to get off your hands... then feel free to give it to me... lol ;-). GREAT plants, yall
candela, I ask for color and you delivered. Thank you. I love all those plants. It seems as if I will be doing a lot of reading in the next couple of days. Next year this time I will be showing begonias as big and pretty as yours.
I have lobster claw Heliconias about 6' tall, but right now the stalks are falling over. I could never get them to bloom. I can see the black flower on your anthuriun (cool) . I have a few Wal-Mart crotons but not any that dark. They are so colorful and easy to care for. Your favorite cycad just became #1 on my have- to- get list.
glad i didn't miss this one! y'all have SO many beautiful plants...thanks for the inspiration! ms. rita, i'm definitely gonna look for that one (philodendrum). are the leaves as thick and waxy as they look? and your lime zinger! WOW! guess i'm gonna have to try those again. and the brazilian fireworks! (i'll be gitting the plant files after this one.) love them all! oh, and the greenhouse picture gives me so many ideas.
candela, black is one of my favorite colors in the garden. you have sooo many cool ones! that antherium and begonia are to die for. can you tell me the name of the begoina in the second picture with the large dark leaves? those leaves are huge!
thanks for sharing!

ashleykelly, I had to go feel the leaf again to make sure that they are not thick and waxy. They are the complete opposite they are fragile and delicate. The stalks are thick with ridges on them. I would like to have another, but so far, unable to find any.
I am smiling to myself imagining candela hiding behind a bush waiting for those owls tonight.
candela, good luck, we will be waiting on the owl pictures.
.
This is a good no problem, Philo. giganteum.
Dutchlady1, I bet with the fragrance of night blooming jasmine, and all your plumerias, your yard might not only look good but smell good too, night and day.
Texasbigleaves , your greenhouse is looking good. I can see a bud on your heliconia plant . Your Philo. seems to be twice as big as it was in the fall, and very healthy. How is your antherium Regale coming along?
ok what is that red flower I am guessing?
wonderful... is that the bloom or it is so small with that huge musa right there..
blooms in winter - love it.
That is stunning.. I have seen them in WalMart but they just did not look like that to me.. wow. Thank you for putting up with this newbie to this... you know in Mexico you never know the names really... just point and ask how much and they tell you and you hope it will live.. no idea sun or shade... nada just a prayer.
