Tropical garden #5

Red Oak, TX

Spring is right around the corner. There are signs and promises of it everywhere.
Show us your first buds and flowers in your tropical garden. They are all beautiful and welcome.

Rj, could you show one more time a picture of your Eranthemum pulchellum (blue sage)? She is so beautiful.

Diehrdsouthrnr, this is for you.

candela, your begonias are so big and healthy. Will you give me a few tips on getting mine to look like that? Should I keep them dry or damp? How often should I feed them? Any tips will be appreciated.

I am running out of blooms in the greenhouse, so I am depending on gardeners in the warmer climate for a little color.

texasbigleaves, it seems as Queen Emma decided to bloom quite early this year. Over on the other tropical forum, Tropicman 's Queen is fixing to bloom for him too.
Good luck on your big ear contest. Not me, I can't handle the pressure.

diehrdsouthrnr, Thank you for the seed offer, maybe by the time they are ready I might have something good to trade. I am getting very good at starting seeds. I got this Idea to put shelves across the joists of the greenhouse from Rj and tropicman, which is working very well to start seeds.

diehrd. How is your greenhouse coming along?

rita i would suggest going to the begonia forum and look at the sticky thread. it has all sorts of info on care. all of my rhizomes are in the ground and there is no real maintenance involved. i do give them a little osmocote whenever i remember (which translates into not often). the rexes are gorgeous but i have no luck with.

it has kinda just stopped for a while... i have a four day weekend, so i'm hoping to gte some done tomorrow, but i also have shcool projects and my dad has landscaped a friends house, and they want to pay me $10/hr to carry out the plans and install the plants, so it kinda got lost in the midst of the hustle and bustle... the seeds would be a gift in return for the great surprise you gave me when we traded, so don't worry about trading.... unless there is something you absolutely HAVE to get off your hands... then feel free to give it to me... lol ;-). GREAT plants, yall

Red Oak, TX

candela, I ask for color and you delivered. Thank you. I love all those plants. It seems as if I will be doing a lot of reading in the next couple of days. Next year this time I will be showing begonias as big and pretty as yours.
I have lobster claw Heliconias about 6' tall, but right now the stalks are falling over. I could never get them to bloom. I can see the black flower on your anthuriun (cool) . I have a few Wal-Mart crotons but not any that dark. They are so colorful and easy to care for. Your favorite cycad just became #1 on my have- to- get list.

diehrd, you will have enough time to get the greenhouse completed before fall. I promise you will enjoy having it. My family refer to my greenhouses as Nana's play house.
Have fun on your new job and take a picture of the finished job to show us.

ashley i think the name is either carribean king or plum gorgeous

rita i can see where brazilian fireworks gets its name.

i have cleared out so many plants in the back under an old coral tree that last night at dusk there were 4 owls in the tree. they are so cute maybe i can get a picture tonight.

ashleykelly, I had to go feel the leaf again to make sure that they are not thick and waxy. They are the complete opposite they are fragile and delicate. The stalks are thick with ridges on them. I would like to have another, but so far, unable to find any.
I am smiling to myself imagining candela hiding behind a bush waiting for those owls tonight.
candela, good luck, we will be waiting on the owl pictures.

This is a good no problem, Philo. giganteum.

Dutchlady1, I bet with the fragrance of night blooming jasmine, and all your plumerias, your yard might not only look good but smell good too, night and day.

Texasbigleaves , your greenhouse is looking good. I can see a bud on your heliconia plant . Your Philo. seems to be twice as big as it was in the fall, and very healthy. How is your antherium Regale coming along?

ashleykelly, I need some help ID that beautiful red Hibiscus. After going through the hibiscus forum, I come up with "Dragon's Breath" and "Black Dragon", am I close?
I have a couple to replace this spring, they are mostly pink's . A red would brighten my collection.
