I have that variegated crinum too but it seems to be a slower grower than my other crinums.

Dutchlady, you are right, I have had that little one for two years.

Thumbnail by prita

Oh that is good to know; I thought I was doing something wrong.

Red Oak, TX

Dutchlady, do you know how big they are supposed to get? I was hoping for 3-4', that would be great.

placenciarita,

What is the name of the plant with the burgandy leaves in your last picture?
And does it stay that color?
Thanks!

I love seeing everyones pictures!!!

Red Oak, TX

Ariel73, The plant with the burgundy leaves is an anthurium andraeanum "Red Beauty"
The new leaves are all that color, then change as the leaves age.. I have only had this plant for a year. My first winter with it , it seems to be ok and is putting out a few new leaves.

I don't think they get quite as big as some of the other crinums. Mine was a pup from a friend's plant and his was about 2 1/2 ft. tall.

that pink and green cordyline is gorgeous rita

Dutchlady, thanks for your reply, I always thought that they would get as big as the Queen Emmas. I guess that I will keep it in the pot for a few more years.

Hi candela, the pink and green cordyline is realy pretty, but I would give anything to have one the size of the one in your picture.
Does anyone have any experience in growing this giant white squill.

Hey, Rita, what's the name of that plant on the left in your last pic with the chevron variegation?

Red Oak, TX

J Plunket., the plant is a philodendron Pink Princess. I bought that one on a trip to Florida. You can also get one from Natural Selection Exotics, their plants are always big and healthy.

After trimming and watering plants in the greenhouses yesterday, I took a few pictures of my first spring blooms. They are puny but it is a sign of spring and of more big beautiful blooms to come.

Rita,
I asked my question incorrectly --I meant to ask about the plant on the left in your post 4568742...

Red Oak, TX

JPlunket It was my fault. I did not pay attention to the word chevron. I am always in a hurry to show off my philo.
The plant that you are refering to is a Alpinia, variegated shell ginger. It has beautiful blooms in the springtime, easy to grow and you can find them at any of the regular nurseries. I bought mine at Wal-Mart.

Thanks --I have a couple my wife bought but she's a NNN --never notes names. Haven't seen them bloom here in DC, but I plan to get a few more for Vieques to see what they do in a more hospitable, real tropical clime.

Beautiful pics for us in the peek of bleek.. Thanks

What a surprise to see these things on the trunk of my hardy palm trees.
I do not know if they are seed pods, or what? But I sure do like what I see.

That should be a bloom...

Red Oak, TX

Wow Rita! That great! I don' think I have ever seen a Palm Bloom... If you get some seed I would love to have some :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I've seen a few palm blooms around town. I hadn't really paid attention to them before..didn't think they bloomed so early.

I took some more pictures of the blue sage Rita..I've been on vacation...I still have to post them yet.

This is the view out my kitchen window. This is the crossvine in bloom.

yep definitely a bloom... the trachycarpus's are always spring bloomers

Red Oak, TX

Thanks Mitch and diehrdsouthrnr for confirming that it is a bloom.
Truetropical, if I get any seeds, they are yours. I am quite familiar with coconut palms but not these. I am looking forward to what happens next.

Rj, It is so nice to see all your blooms. What a wonderful view you have from the kitchen window, everything in your picture is so green and healthy. It must be springtime in Houston. I hope that you had a good vaccation.
Traveller palm is still alive in the GH.

Just wonderful to have them bloom... what I dont know is if you might need two plants to have seeds or just one.

Miami, FL(Zone 10a)

rj beautiful vine. what is is growing on?
looks like spring.

Thumbnail by candela

Oh Rita, I need socks but rather have plants.
Beautiful..just beautiful.
Candela love your cycad,I can see why it is a favorite.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I would like to add some cycad to my garden too!

Originally the crossvine was trained up with a decorative chain. It now just uses it's own trunk. I also have another chain if you notice in the back ground that goes straight up. This keeps the vine from crawling all over the lower shrubs..it seeks the highest area, and thus becomes very orderly seeking the heigth of the chain. it's way up in the tree in that area now.
