Wow - you're so close to the river, Eleanor?!
Snow Photos!!
The canal is between us and the river. In the summer we can't even see it because of trees and brush. Eleanor
So theoretically I can bring my canoe to the county park, put in in the river and paddle to your house!
Victor - yes you could, but you'd have to paddle upstream!! It might be a bumpy ride as there are several falls that you would go over - oopps, going the wrong way!! You are still going against the current but you'd have to paddle up the water falls!! You might be able to use the canal and go around the falls but it is basically a feeder canal providing water to the Champlain Canal from the Hudson River. Couple of places you'd have to drag the canoe out of the canal and carry it!!
Carrie - better get your 13 year old out there to get that snow blower dug out soon!! Eleanor
Carrie:
That's quite the photo! I'm laughing!
Thats a beautiful photo Sandy!
Thanks! My DD went with me and she was standing there tapping her toes and rolling her eyes but it was worth the wrath of a sixteen year old! I love walking through the woods after a snowstorm to see what has been walking through the woods. We only found what looked to be a large deer tracks and where it was foraging for food.
looks like a hawk trying to catch something, wonderful shot

Great shot Sherrie. Beautiful sandy.
I think it's raining here now - I predict at best, a gray Christmas. :>( Thank you, Candyce. I think she intended it to be funny. Does anyone mind if I use his/her picture for an upcoming article? xxx, Carrie
Love all of the pics!! Eleanor
Wow.
We got a LOT of snow and hardly any sleet or freezing rain.
How did everyone else do with the storm? Still digging out?
Carrie:
Feel free to us any photo you like.
And ... I have more
Got mostly snow, than at the end we got sleet and freezing rain...coming down very hard at times! Got between 10-14" when all was said and done.
I haven't been following this thread for lack of time, but I'm trying to catch up. Just went back up and looked at all the great pics. Wonderful, everyone.
Sherrie, outstanding that you caught that hawk!
The hyped-up (at least in our part of the country) storm has inspired me to take a couple of pics. Also the beautiful sunrise this a.m. I don't mean to downplay the seriousness of the damage. But here we had lots of media attention and very little storm...little wind and some sleet followed by 6-8" of snow when they were talking about 18. It's just a normal winter day in Buffalo.
Jan, thats a lovely picture!!!!
thanks, Pix.
Oh, that cardinal pic is just wonderful!! if it's too late for this years Xmas card, save it for next year :)
bebop, you just captured one of my favorite photo's in the winter. It's beautiful!! Nothing shows up better than a carnial in a snow storm! I have one from last winter and one from last spring when it was sitting in amongst the apple blossoms.
I am so jealous of the cardinal photo, bebop2. I must have a completely different lens on my camera. Your close-ups are so clean and crisp!
Beautiful sunrise, Jan! Great cardinal bebop! I love seeing them. I never have my camera when they land on my holly when there's snow - would be a great photo with the red berries echoing their color.
we haven't had cardinals here and I'm so jealous. I'm hoping to tempt them with feeders this winter.
Grampapa, I love the subtle pink in the snow.
We sometimes have a pair of cardinals without even trying - other times I can actually get someone to put cardinal food in the feeder and the cardinals ignore me! Pretty pictures. Today Boston is frozen. Nobody's car will start or car door will open. DH just got back from taking kids to school - usually an hour, today took over three! I'm staying home. x, C
The little door that hides the gas cap was frozen shut this morning - so I had to leave the gas station without getting gas. Good thing I fill up at 1/2 tank in the winter. By the time I got to work - the think had unfroze. Maybe it will say that way until I can get gas tonight.
