Stop and visit, talk all you want.

sallyg, haha "yoostoo". Well I'm sad to hear that you and marsue are not cross stitching but I understand the time it takes and how hard it is on the eyeballs. I went off stitching when my kids were younger because I just couldn't find the quiet time but now they're not bothering me too much when I get into my hobbies. I even taught my 9 yr old son how to do it as well as my 11yr old stepdaughter....they do require help with starting and stopping a bit.
The TK is a kit but it is not stamped/preprinted; I have to count every little bit of it. I made one boo boo on it but decided to frog it all out and I blame letting myself get too tired for that mistake. I should've put it down when I started yawning! I don't like the stamped ones to tell the truth and prefer to count. I just baste grid lines onto the cloth to help me count over. This is a good hobby for those cold months when I can't be out in the garden.. I also do quite a bit of crochet having just made two cool purses! I really got to take pictures of these things.

kwanjin, I'm glad to hear that you had help from DH. My MIL had foot surgery and she couldn't apply any pressure (both feet). She too, had to direct her DH on what needed to be done but she got so frustrated because she likes how she does things better, lol! For a woman on the go, it was not pretty to watch her laid up like that! She was even cursing out loud that she didn't want no man washing her underthings...oh it was funny.

marsue, I can hardly wait to pack up and go on Friday night! I was stepping into the shower last night and I could feel the drywall dust under my feet in the tub....we kept the bathroom sealed off so how it got there, I dunno! I know it's unfair of me to be demanding but I wish these guys would work faster!!!

sacvalley, get out! No way! Liners for crockpots! Wowee...that's just what I need to minimize the dishwashing! Thank you!

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

kwan, my dr. threatened the surgery for plantar facciitis and I went the longer route of physical therapy. So I know what you mean. I sat on the sideline and directed all summer. I pushed the swiffer from my rolling office chair and got several stools to sit on in the garden. But I am finally pain free and it feels wonderful! Hang in there.

I still have a few cross stitch projects I would love to finish, but my eyes are really getting worse so maybe my dd will do them for me.

I have a crock pot with the removable crock so I just put it in the dishwasher. I won't have anything that can't go in there! But before I used to use those baking bags in my crock pot to line it. So if you can't find the ones made especially for them, the baking bags work. I used them for years before getting the new crockpot.

Erynne, I meant to add this photo for you I took yesterday. It is in the 70's still here. So the roses are loving it, still in there end of year flush.

cactus, that is a gorgeous rose--worth seeing it twice! LOL What is the name of it, please?
It got down in the low 30's here last night and the frost finally got my remaining roses. However, it is supposed to get back up into the 70's tomorrow and the next day or two--such crazy weather but, hey, I love the 70's temps!
That's interesting to know about the crock pot liners. My crockpot is one of those big ones so I don't use it except when we are having a big get-together because it is too much for just DH and me. I made a big pot of home-made soup yesterday in anticipation of the cooler weather. It was good to have a hot lunch today! It should last us for 2 or 3 days. Goody, I won't have to cook again for a few days!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Oh, that is a beautiful rose! Our first frost/freeze was last night, so I guess everything is gone for 2007... Looking forward to seed swapping in January.

OMG how did I put it there twice? LOL! Unfortunately I don't know the name. It was planted in my DD's yard when she bought her last house. It was very old and not doing well so when she wanted me to help her remove it I took cuttings to root. I had never done that before and of the 6 cuttings I only had one take root. This one is 3 years old and smell very nice. Kind of lemony. But I don't know the name? I should go look at HMF again.

I love homemade soup. And being able to eat it for days is one of my main reasons. I have a large crockpot that I use when it isn't just the 2 of us. I buy those turkey bags to line it with so I don't have to wash it!

We could get a freeze any day now, but I think it is usually closer to Thanksgiving here.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Erynne..travelled through a blizzard..from Moonstone to Hwy 89..you know that route well...terrible conditions..although the plows and sanders were out it was still treacherous driving..about 50 fender benders..girlfriend just called and said it had stopped so let's hope the 100 mile drive home is uneventful..I'm teaching tonight at 7:00 so hopefully I'll get home before the students..lol have a nice trip..know you need it...but you are going the wrong direction..north would have been better...

(Zone 7a)

Oh...I hope she made it home!

Cactus, beautiful rose. I still have some of my Golden Showers. Some frost but nothing bad yet. Temps here have been very good to us. I can finally see my garden as I'd like it. Blooming and not all burnt.

I still hold out hope that my feet won't hate me forever! This is my fifth time with this. I wouldn't wish bone spurs on my worst enemy! Seriouusly. No one deserves this. DH is soooo helpful and kind through all of it.

Good for you Erynne, on getting through your problem. It IS very painful what you went through.

Glenview, IL

my Cactus, your Rose is beautiful!
Celia, Your sunset is beautiful...I am so glad you entered the photo contest. As well as Cactus..I wish you luck and fun too. I entered 1 photo too in the Insect Catagory.. not sure , Marsue I think spent the day in the voting booth! Oh gosh can't tell you how many hour I have been...how exciting, so much talent beautilful pictures.

Hi Betty! I am so glad your travel was good.

Just wanted to say hi...Have a well deserved trip. I know spurs are pretty darned wicked so I hope you get lot of rest.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I have plantar fasciitis, too, but lately I've been staying off my feet alot, so it hasn't been bad these days. When it was, though, it was terrible! What kind of surgical procedure do they do for that? Hope you heal fast, kwanjin! Good you have a helper.
Bettypauze, please let us know you made it home safely.

"Yoostoo" reminds me of something Archie Bunker probably said. "Yous two". LOL

(Zone 7a)

It reminds me of Joe Pesci in "My Cousin Vinny". "Da two youts."

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok...... ready for my morning? I'm so embarrassed (hangs head)

Tuesday morning, I went to get in the truck to take the kids to school, and my truck wasn't there!! (Actually my guys truck, but I've been driving it cause my van is a piece of crap). Where the truck should have been was a 2002 Chevy Trail Blazer :) WOO HOO... Mike bought me a new (to me) SUV!

So this morning, I went out and started it, to warm it up to take the kids to the bus stop. Came back inside, got the kids bundled up, went out, shut and locked the house..... guess what... my keys are locked inside my running SUV. Sigh... and I'm locked out of the house in 32 degrees, with 3 kids. Sent the kids to the neighbors, for a ladder, praying the sliding glass door on the deck is unlocked. It Was (Thanks God) so I had to come in and call Mike at work, he had to get a friend to cover for him, to come unlock the silly car, had to call my sister to take the kids to school (cause by now they have missed the bus). Sigh do I feel stupid :(

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

KyWoods, in the past I had plantar fasciitis and bone spurs. I went to a foot doctor. He prescribed inserts for my shoes, which I got. He also told me to wear Rockports. He said the heel of one's foot needs to be snug in their shoes. Mine is not as bad as it was, I've been wearing 'ugly' shoes now for about 10 years. I love shoes, so it's hard to buy 'ugly' ones, but my feet thank me for it every day!

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Woofens, congrats on the truck. That kind of stuff happens to us all I guess. I blame it on the kids! Now that I am a empty nester that one is harder to do.

flowerlady, don't think of them as ugly shoes. Sensible is what they are. Of course I never did let designers dictate what I wear. LOL! You can't look pretty when your feet are hurting.

Isabella, MO(Zone 6b)

Wow, Woofens, that was quite a morning--one of those "comedy of errors" but I am sure having the "new" vehicle made it all better! LOL

I'll be out of touch for a couple of days--we have to go to my MIL's house 65 miles from here, spend the night with her and then get up early to have her at the Surgery Center in Conway, 35 miles from her house by 9 a.m. on Friday. They are going to put a scope down her throat and look around in her stomach to see if maybe there is a small ulcer that is not showing up on the other tests they have done. Anyway, I will not be back online until possibly Friday night or Saturday morning.
Y'all behave yourselves while I'm away! LOL
Everybody have a good day today and one tomorrow too!
P.S. Sorry to hear about you folks who have the problem with your feet. So far, so good with me as far as my feet are concerned!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

marsue, they'll probably give her some good drugs, and she won't even know the did it! That happened to my Mom last time. She is 87, but is fully aware of what's going on around her. She still keeps me straight! Anyway, after the procedure I told her what they found, and she looked at me with a big questioning face and asked how I knew. I told her they told me after the procedure. And she said, "They didn't do anything to me!" I hope it's that good for your mom. I'll have y'all in my prayers.

I'm gonna be out of touch from Friday afternoon to probably Tuesday...going with Mom and DS to visit cousins... It will be nice. I'm hoping all of the beauty has not dried out of the trees up in KY.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

LOL, kwanjin, I loved that movie, "My CousinVinny"! He was hilarious!

I used to have prescription arch supports, but that was nearly thirty years ago, so they got worn out, and besides, your feet change over the years. Especially when you gain a ton of weight! I remember having to wear "extra depth" shoes to allow for the orthotics, esp. since one had a heel lift. I felt like a little old lady, and I was in my 20's. I have always been jealous of people who could buy all kinds of cute shoes from cheap stores.

Oh, Woofens, you poor thing--don't you hate it when you do things like that? Triple A has saved me sooo many times. I highly recommend it.

Marsue, I said a little prayer for your MIL, that the procedure goes smoothly and that nothing serious is wrong.

Flowrlady, we did manage to get some pretty colors in the trees, but not as much as it should be this time of year. Enjoy your trip and your visit!

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

"I have always been jealous of people who could buy all kinds of cute shoes from cheap stores" ...me, too! I LOVE shoes. But you'd never know it by looking at mine. I don't have to wear my support any more, though I probably should. I manage to get by being careful... but some days my feet will have a bad day.

(Zone 7a)

Cactus, right on about tthe new truck. I do that all the time with my keys and so does DH.

Kywoods, I had orthotics in my shoes at first. $200 they cost me and worked for about a month. Then we did the cortizone shots (3). Then on to surgery as the only alternative. My spurs got so big, you could see them poking through. Like I said before, I would not wish this on anyone. Been in "sensible" shoes for years and that's okay by me. It's easier to walk and garden!

Marsue, good luck to both of you! We'll miss you. Bring lots of coffee when you get back 'cuz it'll take a long time to catch up!

FlowrLady, you have fun now.

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

Kwan, I can't imagine how much pain that must have been! Oh...

(Zone 7a)

Pain, shmain...I'm a tough old bird. Just had to steel myself to stand up. Then cried all day and complained to DH about how aweful it was to be me. (kidding)

Can't wait to see what the coming years have in store for us.

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

We are going to be fine! I'm happy to have DG so I can hear how others are taking care of some of the same maladies I face. We'll get through this together!

Whew! I just finished judging the photo contest. Did a few along for a few days, and now it's over. The photographs in there are gorgeous. Wow! Do we have some talented gardeners and photographers!

(Zone 7a)

Took me three days to get through them all. Yes, they all should win.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Oh wow, that rose looks like blazing sunshine! Thank you cactuspatch.....just what I needed to see on this very dull & snowy wet day!

kwan, it wasn't me who had the foot surgery ...it was my poor mother-in-law. If sympathetic pains count, I sure had them for her! She's very tough but the pain was enough to have her tears even with all the meds. My feet, knock on wood, don't give me issues. I'm a bare-foot-when-possible type of gal and have only worn heels a handful of times for special occasions. I hate wearing shoes but since I have to, I go for comfort over fashion.

Betty, you be careful travelling that stretch of road....yes, I know it well and I swear the plowers take their sweet time getting to the sections of highway near you. As for going north......now why would I follow the heavier snow? lol ;)

marsue, I hope things go well with your MIL's test. Scopes are not fun but I do know that they make them as gentle as possible. They may use an esophageal spray with lidocaine to numb the area so she doesn't gag or feel much or better yet they may sedate. I'd prefer to be put out myself. Either way, let us know how she does and good vibes are being sent her way.

Have a fun trip FlowrLady!

Cute bears!

I just thought of another...Getting a word in edgewise.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Woofens- sympathy. I have a friend who left her car runnng and locked it to go in the grocery store! yes its kids fault. I just got all my stuff together on Monday to take the dog to a park and locked keys in house.
Last Friday, went to dinner with two girlfriends, took my son's paycheck and thought I put it in my back pocket, then couldn't find it for a whole day. I felt horribly stupid, silly and irresponsible. It's all too much stuff to think of at once.

(Zone 7a)

Did you find the paycheck?

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Thank Heavens and my sweetheart of a GF, yes!
I remembered folding it and putting it in my back jeans pocket, which I do with lots of important stuff and my mother cringes but anyway. I think what I then did and forgot , was that when I left the van, I put my cell phone in my pocket to be sure I knew if it rang, and put the check in the van, cup holder. My GF was at my house the next day and looked in the van for me and found it. I was just rushing and not thinking.
Now, my set of keys last fall, the expensive ones with microchip in the head, and a remote.....those must have gone in the bin of yard waste. I now have a lanyard and bright blue metal clip on my keys. No more hooking them on my pocket edge.

(Zone 7a)

I locked my keys in my truck once 45 miles from anywhere. Cell phone? In the truck. Thank goodness we were not far from a farm and they were home in an hour.

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

Just thought I would stop in and say Hi!

(Zone 7a)

Hi again, Misty! (Still waving like Granny. Holding my arm up.)

Wilton, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Mistygardener!
We're remodeling our master bedrm and bath. My DH is able to do most of the work himself but needs help w/the plumbing. Our great friend just left here and gave us of list of supplies he'll need to do the job next wknd. We are so greatful to have friends who help out when needed!

Saint James, MO(Zone 6b)

LOL I am surprised you can hold your arm up after your trip to Lowe's!
Hi Sac, isn't it wonderful to have the ability to do most of the work yourself! I don't even ask DH for help unless it is with the table saw, or some mean piece of equipment! I use the bansaw, chop saw, saw zaw, etc....
Since honey didn't have any luck finding me a GH today, I am going to fabricate my own this weekend! :)

-South Central-, IL(Zone 6a)

sallyg, " I was just rushing and not thinking." I think losing keys starts happening when you're about 55... I've been losing mine regularly since then! It gives you such a hollow panicky feeling when you realize what you've done.

Right now I'm looking for the cables that go to my camera. I can't download, and I can take any more because the battery is low... modern technology ugh!

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey y'all. Sheesh, I blinked (left for a day or two) and now I can't catch up! I love all the pics! Gorgeous, beautiful and darling!

I had to go to the dr's this morning and have some blood taken. There was a young girl, maybe 14 yrs old that went in before me. I could hear everything they were saying. This HAD to be her first blood test. "Ouch, that hurts. Why are you taking so much?" The nurse said, "It's only two vials, that's really not a lot." I was sitting in the waiting room trying not to giggle. "It's a lot to me, it's MY blood! Oh, I'm still bleeding!"

Then it was my turn. I tell the nurse what I always tell them....just do it, don't tell me anything you're doing, I'll look the other way. She goes to her business. I'm looking the other way. I can feel her switching the vials. It's taking forever....forever....forever. Finally she's done and I have to look to see what took so long. Oh, she filled five vials, four big ones and one little one. I couldn't help it, I laughed and said, "Good thing that last little girl didn't need these tests, she'd have flipped out over 5 vials." The nurse told me the most she'd ever taken from one person was 14 vials and I thought that had to be a lot like donating blood. I wonder if that little girl will ever be able to donate blood? I really don't know why I found this so humorous....maybe because I was waiting for her to faint on the way through the waiting room? It really was cute though. Her Dad was with her, telling her the whole time that it really wasn't a big deal, but she didn't seem convinced.

Now for the weather....it's been snowing here. Anyone else have snow yet? Not much is sticking, but it's still coming down. There's a bit on the top of the hills and there was an inch or so on my car yesterday. I'm not ready for this, but I never am. It makes me want to go back to bed, turn the electric blanket on high and just stay there curled up with my little dog. I need a store in town that delivers groceries and dog food, then I'd be all set! I could hide inside from Nov. till April. Guess it's time to break out the scarves and mittens.

I hope all of you are nice and warm!
Heather

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I gave blood once, and will never do it again. Did it for my sister...who always WANTS something from me...when she called me I asked, "What is it you want NOW"? She said, "I want your BLOOD" !!!

and she got it ! But will she share her bearded iris with me? Oh, NO !
That's real gratitude, huh?

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

Even if she did, somehow, I don't think that would be an even trade.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

yeah...what heathrjoy said !

Dillonvale, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL All :)

I still feel super silly from yesterday, but I'm better now. Mike had an extra key made, that we can put someplace safe that I can get to if I do it again. (without having to climb the ladder and break into my own house LOL)

Started getting a cold last night, just feel blah..... and snuffly (as my kids say I think its a combination of sniffle and stuffy). Went back to bed this AM after taking them to the bus stop but couldn't sleep. I have to drive them 3.5 miles to and from their bus every morning or they have to attend a school I feel is really crappy. Same district, just a different building. If I sent them to the crappy school, they could catch the bus right in front of the house, but its worth it to me to drive them a couple miles every day. (even locking my keys in the car LOL)

Hope everyone is feeling ok, I've got to go fill prescriptions and stuff :)

Hugs
Janis
