I am headed to Lowe's soon cause my sis said she seen the green houses in, but wasn't sure of the size or price. This way I can have a larger one on the front deck for the shade annuals, and put my mini out back by the one we just built for those less susceptible to cold. Isn't it awful to be so addicted?! NOT!!! LOL
Stop and visit, talk all you want.
Agree!!! NOT!!! LOL Have fun at Lowe's.
Hey, I got the GREEN HOUSE at Lowe's! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY for me! Oh ya, I bought three more plants, too! :)
Congratulations! I showed my DS a picture of one someone in here had built and asked him if he could do that. He said yes! With him, though, it's getting him to follow through! KnowwhatImean???
Thanks! Just keep after him, or go out and try to start on it yourself, see if that gets him to help! LOL That is about the way I did it, although, he would have helped me without the little "push"! Good luck with getting one of your own! Misty
Yay for you and the new Gh!!
hahah, yep i know what you mean ...been trying to get DH to build me a compost bin for oh about 7 years now! said he would this year aaannnd end of season and I am still waiting, BAAWWLING over here.LOL now I might just have to resort tour tactic.
Kwanjin, find out whats up yet? Lots of questions is good, right.
Hmm, wondering if our local Lowe's has tempting portable greenhouses..... :)
LOL. I even have a small compost that he decided to make for me all on his own! So I guess I really should feel blessed, huh?! If you were a bit closer I would come help you myself! He didn't just do it all for me, I helped to build it, and many other things we have done together as well.
Yes. Kwanjin, what is up? We are all curious! :)
You should go check out your local Lowe's, cause we are in a small podunk little place and usually the last to get anything!
You deserve to have one, you should all go check it out! :)
Sorry, All! I've been at work for the last 9 hours. I've not been successful with finding out what is up. It's making me a wreck! LOL HR says it's not posted yet, my boss says I have to hurry and apply, and my co-workers all say they will miss me! I'm off work the next five days so I will have plenty of time to pester everyone o nteh phone to tell me what's next, if anything. It just makes me crazy when people do stuff like this because your life gets disrupted in all kinds of ways. So, I'm sorry I have no news BUT...I will keep you posted on what I find out.
Don't you just hate that hurry up and wait thing! I know I sure do. Well I hope they hurry up and don't keep you waiting! Will think all good thoughts for you! :)
I think I need all the help I can get! LOL Thanks!
Nah, we all have faith in you! I know what you could do over your next 5 days to keep your mind off of it! LOL Didn't you say you have a green house just waiting in a box for you?
Hi ladies, I am too busy to read all the posts and catch up. Lots going on now with getting ready for holiday guests, my quilt bee tea plans and my part time job! I thought you might all like to check this funny link
http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=1197846&fr=yvmtf
It was sent to me by my sister. Hope it brings a smile to you, I am still laughing!
Love the Mom Song! Saw this on YouTube. So true, so true.
Weather's nice here, a little cold but nice and sunny. Kind of not feeling well today. I hope you all are doing better.
Misty, did you get the door put on yet? And what plants did you get?
cactuspatch, it's awesome! I remember my mom saying everyone of those things at least once (because there were three of us). AND, I can remember saying it all, too! LOL LOL
OMG, I loved the MOM song! i needed a good laugh, thanks!
Kwanjin, nope, no door yet as I slept til almost Noon, and it is nasty out again today! Shamefull, I know, but it felt sooooooooooooo good! LOL I hope you get to feeling better!
I bought a really wicked Hardy Cactus, but have no clue what the name is yet. I also bought a Cyclamen, they are really cool plants. The other is a Calcereum-Live Forever plant. I haven't planted the last one yet as it has 2 new babies growing in it! One is about an inch or so tall, the other is just coming out of the dirt, so I don't want to risk injury to either one. Especially if they end up being a different succulent from what I bought. :) The way Lowe's just crams theirs together, it is always possible. They are just so tiny right now it is hard to tell. But any freebie is always great! Misty
Good morning everyone! Feeling MUCH better today. Weather still holding sunny in the upper 50s.
I found out that the job posting will be up sometime this week so I will be able to apply then. Sooo...I get to hurry up and wait some more! LOL
Misty, love the Cyclamens, too. What color? And I'm going to have to look up the Live Forever plant. Don't know that one. And yes, freebies are the best.
hahaha, I just loved the Mom song!~Gonna have to listen again.
glad your feeling better, at least this week is only 1.5 days left!
...hope your enjoying the day!
Whats up for the holidays...who's cooking the big dinner?
Thanks, Seed. ME! I get to do it this year. DB and I share the responsiblity and switch every other year. This year it's him for Thanksgivng and me for Christmas. Although, if many more people decide to come for TG, it might be my house! LOL He has a condo and only seats about 10 of us.
This might be our last year with Mom, so the Mom Song is especially apropo. And touching, too. We've saved it in our personal files so we can review it anytime we feel sad. Which won't be very often. When it comes to Mom, it's usually a smile and a laugh that comes to us.
Kwanjin, so glad you are feeling better! The Cyclamen is purple/white-so pretty!
Hi all! In case anyone is interested, if you like succulents, I bought a ton for $1 & $2 a piece! They had a container mixed of bromeliads for like $5, and a Mandarin plant for that as well! Anyway, just thought I would let all of you know in case you want to check out your local store! :) Oh ya, this was at Lowe's. :)
I'm there tomorrow! Thanks, Misty.
LOL, Kwanjin! I just could NOT help myself. :) I just love this Mandarin plant!
I think you must be like me and keep the 'puter on all the time. I can hear a new e-mail from outside!
No, Noooo, don't wanna hear it! *plugs ears* LOL Oh, how I wish I had more room for plants...
Isn't it great. This year we are traveling to my DS. She is a Chef and beleive me sh'll be putting me to work! LOL I love it though,
We share all the holidays and fortunatley Christmas is at a cousins. Leaving for Florida on the 26th. Very Excited because a very good DG friend Betty will be there at the same time!! So we are planning to Meet.
...So you gonna share the festivities? I am sorry to hear it may be the last with MOM...may you all just love every moment.
Misty...thanks for the headsup at Lowes...I know we have one here not to far will have to do some research...and skip right over.
No problem! :)
Kwan: hope you are feeling better. Eager to hear about that job, too.
I've been away from DG for a couple of days--it is so hard to catch up with everything that has been going on while I was off the computer--I'm having 'withdrawals'--LOL.
My grandson, age 7, is with us for two days while his mom is out of town plus DH and I are making two new flowerbeds in the front yard, so we have been busy, busy. Now all we need is ideas of what to plant in them. These will be getting full sun all day and it gets HOT here in the summertime--95+ in late July and August. I'm open to suggestions from any or all of you--I'm in zone 7B.
Here is a pic of the new bed along with DH washing the dirt off the driveway:
I know our local Lowe's had their fall bulbs half off yesterday. :)
I forgot to say that the three bushes already in the new bed are lora petulum shrubs(spelling?). I transplanted them from another flower bed. The builder had planted five of them in a small space and they were too crowded.
Here is another pic of the second new bed showing DH and DGS laying the moss-covered rocks around the edge. . . It is a heart-shaped flower bed.
edited to say that misty and I cross-posted. I bought some bulbs on sale yesterday at Lowe's, too. I am going to put them in one of the new flower beds along with some iris and maybe some daylilies. Still need suggestions, though.

cactuspatch, I just viewed the "Mom song" video and I'm ROTFLOL. my favorite was "because I said so" because I "yoostoo" say the same thing to my own kids! LOL
LOL! I think I have said every one of those. BTW, I have been busy and can't keep up either. So I decided to just scroll way down and read the end. I think we all know that everyone can't keep up all the time right?
Suggestions for the bed. I would put things that don't need to be deadheaded to stay in bloom and can take heat without needing lots of water. In my yard I have planted lantana in those areas. They are still blooming and the only care they ever need from me are in the winter when I cut them down so they can start again in the spring. Iris sounds good too, or maybe verbena?
Thanks for the suggestions, cactus. I have never grown lantana before but I am going to try it. Maybe I should start a new thread in another forum about ideas for my flower bed but I don't have a clue as to which forum I should start it in. I love all kinds of flowers and that is my problem--too much to choose from. LOL
Ha ha y'all. I found yuz! I have been AWOL - you know
Gloom, despair and agony on me.
Deep dark depression, excessive mizery.
If it twern't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all
Gloom, despair and agony on me!
Busier than a one-armed paper hanger I've been. And my puter was right sickly! Woah is me.
Procrastinator
giggle, I hear you Marsue. What wonderful spaces you have! Well, what is your style? Lots of plants, I would do every season, I see you have tons of sun, Have you thought of some large Succlants? Then you can work around and within those. The moss boulders are a really nice vision with the curves you have. Love the heart idea! Also consider an occasional tree in the really large meandering bed. That way you can have a small shade area as well.
...oh thank you for letting my mind wander.
Procrastinator, you are too funny! --glad you found us!
Seed--I am not sure what my style is.but I do want the beds to be as carefree as possible. I don't want to have to be constantly "babying" my flowers! As I said, I love all kinds of flowers. DH does want a tree of some kind. He wants a tree like the Bradford Pear but I told him no Bradfords--maybe a Chanticleer if we can find one. Debnes has a good article about Bradfords if any of you are interested in why no Bradfords. All the nurseries around here push Bradfords :o( We also might plant a crape myrtle in one of the beds--they do well in our area and we have three of them that we dug up at a cousin's house last week. then too there are always roses.--Cactuspatch has some beautiful gardens with all kinds of flowers and roses so I don't know why I couldn't combine the formal with the informal, too.
I haven't considered succulents--I have never been particularly fond of them but I know there are some that do have beautiful flowers. May have to check into that.
thanks for the suggestions.
Bradfords are stinky! That's why I pulled ours out the minute we moved in our house. 15 feet tall it was and hard as heck to get but we did it.
Maybe a Sand Cherry or Plum tree?
There was some kind of cherry tree at Home Depot today but I think it was called a "fountain" cherry because it has a "weeping" look like a weeping willow. It was pretty--we may have to go back and get one of those. Does anyone have any experience with that kind of cherry tree? Maybe I ought to ask this questions over in the trees forum. mmmm--think I will do that tomorrow--It's almost my bedtime! LOL
Everyone have a good evening and if I don't get back to this thread tomorrow, have a good week-end, too! Tomorrow I am planting some iris and lilies which we dug up over at our cousin's house.
Thanks for your kind remarks marsue. I just plant what does well in my area and I do it in kind of a cottage fashion because planting closely here sort of helps to keep the moisture in. I noticed years ago that nature groups plants and rock in the desert to the benefit of all so that is why I plant the way I do. Plus I like things that reseed so I tend to have lots of plants. You might post on a board that is about your region? The South? I guess there is one. My first posts when I joined were on the cottage garden,Roses and the Southwest forum because those are my interests. Lantana do like hot and dry so I don't know if they could take your humidity? This one has come back yearly for 6 years now and look how it grows onto my drive. It is hiding one of the agaves, which I doubt is a good thing. This one is New Gold. I saw them first in the medians in Las Cruces, about 80 miles west of me. I thought if they did well there, they could do well by my driveway. So you might just drive around your town and see what others have had success with there.
After looking at the photo in preview I realize there is a second lantana shown in the rear. It usually grows out into the driveway too. But this year I was better at pruning it back a bit. Seems I would tire and let this one in the front get a bit outta control!

That lantana is beautiful, cactus. I think they do grow well here in Arkansas but I will have to do some more checking about it. pford lives in Marion, AR and grows things to attract butterflies and hummers so maybe I will dmail her and see what does well for her. Arkansas is in the mid-south region and there is also a central gardening forum that we fit into as well. I will have to post on both of those forums and see what they recommend. I know the mid-south people have to deal with the same humidity that we do here--don't know about those in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri which are all in the central region.
I feel that I have hijacked this thread with my gardening concerns so I will go elsewhere with those. This thread is mainly for "this and that" so I'll let everybody get back to "this and that". LOL
Speaking of "this and that", what is everybody doing for Thanksgiving? We'll probably just have a quiet one with DH's mother and maybe cousin's family as all our kids are going to their in-laws this year. (We take turns doing the holidays with our kids/grandkids). I haven't gotten out my Thanksgiving decorations yet--should do that today.
