Best/Worse and What did I learn today? Friends pt.17

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning...it's sooo eerie outside, sky is completely black, can hardly see, should be light by now, but storm is moving in bringing colder weather conditions with it..drove in myself today as Paul has to be at hospital by 2pm..Suzanne had to be in court this a.m. with client so it was just me..traffic was bumper to bumper so about 20 miles outside the city I took back roads..because I had left 1hr. early, I managed to get here 1/2 hour early..time enough for coffee and western..however, had thought I could drop into Home Depot to pick up a few supplies, but didn't get that done, perhaps on my way home tonight...

Laura, the Equal Opportunity Board gave you their response but they did say they would continue with the complaint? Does it go to another board? Hope so, have they never had more complaints with regards to that Supervisor??? Hang in there, but there does come a time when you have to ask 'is it worth it' and find alternate employment for your own mental state...

Liz, great idea having a talk with DH..sometimes they don't even realize they are being unrealistic..regardless of the outcome, if you both know now what page your on, that's a help in itself..could that purchaser have a home studio?? What holiday were you celebrating in California??

Jeannine, I'm in love with Chuck Norris....DS can't go wrong if he looks like him...lol...people always tend to give nicknames...My boys, Greg/Jeff always say they know when I want their attention as I call them Gregory Roger and Jeffery Russell..

I was taught by nuns throughout my school years...always called me Betty, but when I didn't come up to par (clowning around) they would emphasize E L I Z A B E T H in french...I'd know then I was in trouble...

Well not sure what I'll do today, think I'll wait till the 2 morning clients appts. are over and Paul leaves, then I'll take out my Victorian Santas' out and hopefully finish them...

You know, I just can't get Tangiegirl (Jan) out of my mind, keep feeling something is desperately wrong..sure wish I could contact her..we should give each other our telephone numbers (some I have) so should we go missing, we'd have a number to call... telephone company said no listing for that name /address but could that mean they are just unlisted???

Well, I've rambled on..time to put my head back in the chair and do some more resting..brought in Joyce Meyer new book - Approval Addiction..read about 1/2 of it so I'll try and finish it today as well...great reading....

Pacifica, CA

hi betty,

it was columbus day its a strange holliday seems like the banks and post office are the only one that observe the holliday, yes its possible she may have a studio if she is a dirvirter the'll cut her off compleatly they have done it before we have customers we know and they cut them off compleatly no cash, charge nothing it can be pretty brutal especially when you know thease customers to have to tell them they cant purchase anymore and call the corporate office if they have any questions thats the part of my job i just hate..

well hope bil is ok well it sounds like your day at work will be very relaxing have fun painting and reading i sent jan a card but i havent heard anything i hope she's doing ok so strange no one heard from her yet.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good luck with the client Liz...I sent out as well a card and xmas balls..nothing returned which leads me to think the number is in service but might be private..where would we check as to her enrolment in Daves Garden to see if perhaps it's over...I just have a sick feeling in the bottom on my tummy that something is wrong...and I DON'T LIKE IT!!!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

agree with you betty, I miss tangie.......let me know if you find anything.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Wonder, I just got an angel in the mail from you! That was so very thoughtful thank you so much!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm envious Tropicanna..am waiting for mine..get home to late to get parcels.guess I'll have to wait for the weekend...

Paul started out this morning and got 1/2 way (daughter driving him in) was so sick they spent 1 1/2 hrs. at the restaurant HWY 89 location..had to go back home..new meds are making him dizzy and can't keep anything down..so had to tell his clients he couldn't make it in..suggested that he not let me book anything for the remainder of the week until he's on his feet..we'll see...stubborn guy..

Played around most of the morning now I'm wondering if it's worth taking my paints out for 2 more hours..think I'll wait till tomorrow knowing I'll be in the office all on my own...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Laura I got a surprise today and had no clue. My gosh i knew when DH said he got the mail and I had something from Australia. I love it. It reminded me of a crystal angel pin that a coworker got me for christmas once from a famous Christian artist. thank you so much.

Boy lose track for a day or two and get lost beyond ability to catch up and answer all. lol

I don't believe in a kid with a cell phone in my name unless it is prepay so they do not go over. If they do, they probably would never have the money to pay for the overage as they can be very steep and cancellation fees are so steep too.

My kid's names are Alysha Renee and Nicholas Adam. Both compromises from the different names I like but my X was from Mexico and thinks all names are odd so he hated anything more out of the mainstream. I always resented that too. Naming them is so important.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

lovely names jeannine! savannah how gorgeous and walker! i love it.

hows that dawn, one of yours has rene in it... so cool.

betty i have been looking for another job and been knocked back evry time. as for transfering , i would but no one from head office has even bothered to tolk to me, they are just taking her word against mine.
the lady from the commision emailed me late yesterday and said there are some things that they disagree with so they are going to request a meeting with them, she advised i get legal council and gave me a number to call of the disability commison who dont charge. i will call and see what they say.

Maybe we can ask dave to contact tangie?? he should have her details?

well, dont want to go to work but i have to. Betty yur parcel got out here real quick! hope yours arrives soon. maybe they are checking it out and holding it a little longer... hope they dont lose anything from it. keep me posted.

have a good day.

It is hot as heck here. Autumn is no where to be seen. We were up to 93 today - OCTOBER 9th! I'm sweating like a pig putting up Halloween decorations! There is something VERY wrong with this picture!!!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Laura thank you so much for the angel! She is hanging in my window with the suncatchers!

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

Well, I'm finally getting a chance to 'check in'. Our break started out with me babysitting overnight. The couple I babysit for wanted to go camping last Friday and couldn't get another sitter so I agreed. Their girls get along really well with my children so it's not a big deal. The two older girls set up the air mattress in front of the tv and had a real sleepover. As a bonus they gave us some of the walleye that they caught, it was soooo good.

Yesterday was also a babysitting day. Luckily, it's at my home so it was no problem getting the turkey and all the other goodies in the oven on time. They were picked up in the early afternoon before the crunch came too. We had a couple of our friends over for dinner which was really nice. One is a single guy and the other's wife is out of town for a few weeks. It's so nice to have company to help us eat everything. I only made 5 pies (no comparison to all of Betty's) but they were very enjoyable. I cheated with the pumpkin pie though and just bought filling. I much prefer using fresh pumpkin but sometimes something has to give.

Laura, you asked for a recipe. I'm not sure if you can get the pumpkin pie filling there but what I usually do is make a gingersnap crumb crust then I beat a package of cream cheese, beat in an egg and then beat in the pumpkin pie filling. Then I pour the filling in the crust and bake at 350 F for about 40 minutes. It's more of a pumpkin cheesecake than a pie but it's really good.

Here's a recipe for regular pumpkin pie. 2 cups pumpkin, 1 can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk), 2 eggs, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, 1/2 tsp salt - Mix all the ingredients together then pour into pastry shell and bake @ 450 F for 15 minutes then reduce oven to 350 F and bake about 35 minutes more.

I've made the above recipe and simply added a package of cream cheese for the added richness. It's good but I had to make a smaller pie in addition to the regular-sized one because there was too much filling. I also baked it at the lower temperature.

Some recipes call for brown sugar and evaporated milk instead of sweetened condensed milk. I think maybe I'll try that out next time. Hmmm, the quest for the perfect recipe.

Well, gotta go.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gillian..going to try your recipe..sounds like it would be so tasty..a little different than regular homemade pies...Laura, I did put a thread on Dave's site asking for general information..her subscription is till mid Oct. so she does have access..spent all afternoon looking at all the DG sites in hopes of seeing a recent post, but no luck.I also sent Araness a 'hello' worry about her as well..haven't seen her on any threads...worry more about you guys than most of my family members..lol..oh I forgot, you are like family!!!

Had a delivery today by UPS and it was the 2 masks I ordered..the monkey one is absolutely adorable, made of rubber, expression so cute..hair on it matches the outfit so I won't fix the hood that I already made as the mask has ears etc....he'll love it..

Did not win at T.V. bingo, so off to bed I go..so excited..have a mate tonight..lol..

Best..quiet relaxing day
Worse..hearing how ill my BIL is (tried to telephone him tonight..no answer at home or at cottage so perhaps they've got him in hospital-sure hope so, it's almost 2 weeks he's been in severe pain)...let's hope I hear tomorrow morning...

What did I learn..had place 2 orders with Fright Catalogue-USA based...good experience..both orders were exactly as ordered..so will order more from these sites...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,
Popping in to say Hi.

Betty..what a fabulous mask..and the clown costumes are so original..beauitful job. I hope those grandkids pass these costumes on
I signed up for another year of DG....my subscription notice came yesterday.
I noticed the fee has gone up to $19.95 from $15.00. Still worth it though for all the fun and knowledge we get here.

I had to get my car fuel line fixed..gas was leaking out badly. and I made a curtain yesterday for the newly painted kitchen.

Liz..bet you are happy now that you can have the lights on..your home must be the talk of the neighbourhood.

Hellnzn..have you decided what colour to paint your doro to match the red. Such a happy colour to come home to.It is our provincail election day here..have to go vote..

Hi Laura..it would be so much better if you could find another job..sounds like things will always be stressful working under that supervisor.

Cheers,
Carol

OMG Liz, I just love it...you should do like the gentleman in neighboring community...he charges people to come and see the haunted halloween house..has a few creatures (live) standing..never sure which is real and which is not, all of a sudden the jump out at you and chase you..minimal charge and also they give discount if you bring food item which they do up for needy families...wouldn't take much with all you have to transform it into same...sure wish I could see it..no wonder it takes you days/days..you are very committed to say the least..will invite the grandchildren over and have them look at your photo's...where oh where do you store all those decorations.....amazing....

I'm thinking Christmas decorations because of all my workshops..can't believe time is creeping up on me so quickly...this weekend will be set aside to do all the test pieces...

Carol..love the kitchen colors, so soft..you did a great job on the window topper...Election Day...I'm confused as to who to vote for this term..one lied last year and a few days later did exactly the opposite to his campaign promises..the other this year, brought issues to the table and he changed his political stand...so just don't know!!! Is it the Devil you know or the Devil you don't...hmmm $19.95 is a cheap price for as much entertainment as I receive on DG...I'm good till some time in 2008...at the price of gas one can't afford to have leaks..

Laura, because of the hours I put in and the travelling, won't likely get to post office until Fri. afternoon..I'm sure it's there..what a treat I'll have...as for work, bide your time and start looking for something else..your mental/physical health is more valuable than the job!!!

BIL just called in..he might try and make it in tomorrow aft. after therapy providing his tummy can take the ride..they think it might stem from the snowmobile accident he had last year..thank goodness he hasn't settled with insurance company..anyway, as soon as Suzanne's clients leave I'll get out my paints...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Vicki are you in full color now..must be beautiful overlooking the fields..did your husband have any luck with his hunting...as I travel each day I see trailers/atv's/canoes all leaving for hunting season..guess our hunting seasons are similar...

Carol, what ever happened to those little kittens..do you think they belonged to someone in the area?? thank goodness they aren't in my yard or I'd be having them inside..often thought I'd like to volunteer at an animal shelter but am positive everyone of them would come home with me...

Jeannine, how is Murphy doing? Every year about this time Sailor pulls the hair off her right hind side..think I have a similar collar, might be an idea to make her wear it...now how is the job hunting going..any prospects..it's just too bad you couldn't have gotten into those nurseries..would be an ideal job for you..

Tropicanna, meant to ask you, you said you had a lot of 'leaf rollers' this year..are they bugs???

Dawn, do olive trees grow very large? Cannot imagine going outside and picking olives..hmmm .. do you have other fruit trees as well..I have flowering crab apple trees, beautiful flowers in spring but not so sure you get eatable apples..should look at the nursery this spring for a few real apple trees...I have grape vines galore, but never any grapes..don't understand it..maybe you have to manicure them?? any ideas...

Laura, in my next shipment to Australia I'll include a few pkg. of coconut pie filling for you both!

Going to rain any sec. well, am off - another 45 minutes to go...then I'll teach tonight so late night...no rest for the wicked...

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

morning!

OMG the decorations look amazing! who made the guilotine??? and you can get smoke machines there? we can hire them and maybe buy but they are really expensive! thankyou so much for sharing them.

thanks betty, didnt know they were a packet thing. my DH eyes glazed when i showed him the pics of your pies. I havnt told him I am going to try to make some. its a surprise for him. Betty, what crust do you use for your pumkin pie?

I recieved and email yesterday from the equal opportunity comission saying they want to set up a meeting to try and resolve this. i guess then we can decide what to do. they have given me a number in case i need representation. i have been trying to find another job with no luck. i will keep trying.

your prayers would be appreciated when you think of it... thanks

Dh is all mended now thankfully. My DS has started a new job as a locksmith/ shoe repairer. a chap we know has taken him on board and given him a mature age apprenticship which is great. usually you dont get them if your over 20 and he is 27! he seems to be very happy.

well its a work day so i guess i will get dressed. going for an ultrasound today due to some pain i have been having. an internal one! yuk,so prayers for that would be great too that it is nothing nasty.

have a good day.

xx

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well, it's been a long day..ended up working until 5:35pm which made getting home
by 7pm impossible..called Rita to let the girls in..back door always open, thank goodness...everyone (7) have just left and guess who hasn't had supper..think I'll pass..

Best..finally having Shawnee finish the chair with the doggie she's doing...
Worse..not really for me but for Shawnee..came in and Sailor had messed downstairs..I really shouldn't have given her the hambone last night...(maybe it was good I came in late..lol)
What did I learn...the new girls are fun..and seem to mix well with the other girls..that's always a plus...

posting photo of Shawnee and her project...not something I would have put on a chair, but what can I say...it's what she wanted to paint...

evening all,

thanks betty, that would be cool but i dont think i have enough props to do that with lol
heres a pic when we moved from our old building to the new one we are curantly in we had this shelving so the boss said take what you want so i took two sections one houses orange bins and the other stores the green xmas bins and the gray ones are misc.
a few props go to storage shed in the back and one or two peices get put in the garage so its not to terribly over crowded. dont mind the clutter on the third shelf
oh your poor bil he probably should stay home and rest a little hope he dosnt over do it.

laura, thanks dh makes all the props the fog machines are not that expensive they can run anywhere from 24.99-59.99 fog juice is about 4-5 dollars for a pint and 19.99 for a 1/2 gallon after halloween is when i hit up the drug stores target and halloween super store they let the juice go at 50% off so i stock pile for the next year.
good luck on the ultrasound and on resolving the matter at work

best: nothing really stands out

worst: omg my boss told me she's comming over tomorrow to see all the decorations omg going to be a all night cleanning binge

learned: it dosnt matter if the house looks lived in i really need to work on that bad habit i stress to much on the what if's

everyone have a great evening

Never a dork, Liz...I love to read your posts......very fun!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

cooeee....

had the test, that wasnt much fun but they did give me a female to do it so it was ok.
gosh if you knew what they charged for one out here and they are not commonly available to the public you would flip! let alone any liquid and such. hundreds of dollars. you guys have everything!

work was hard today. i was really anxious all morning. felt teary and just wanted to run away. wasnt coping at all. there is no one there i feel i can trust so i endure on my own. can you believe one of the managers came to my counter today whilst i was serving and made this big presentation of my certificate in becoming a licence tester!!!!!! this is the very thing they refuse to let me do and we are fighting about! cruel and embarassing. why do that??

sigh,,,, keep trying for another job somewhere... keep praying or sending happy thoughts.. anything would do!

hey, anyone wanna be my pen pal? I always wanted one as a child and i think it would be nice to get a letter or two. have a think about it....

well enough from me...
love to you all

morning girls, off to a bad start..spend 1/2 hr. doing basement mat where Sailor soiled, didn't have to clean the mess but did have to take out rug cleaner...well..that's what I get for being cocky..this morning I WAS the one to have to clean same..another rug cleaning..I should have known better not to introduce anything into her diet which isn't dry kibble...so now off the wash the 'icky' off, do my hair and off to work...hopefully coming home tonight won't bring me to any surprises...will post to each of you when I arrive at work...
