Today's Weather in Your Garden 3

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

4:40 AM
dark and creepy outside
I can't believe that it's 62 degrees!!!!
I suppose I should enjoy it because the high predicted for today is 66.
But the humidity is at 98%, so I'm betting that there's a ton of fog out there.

We actually had a fantastic rain last night, and mostly though the night. It didn't pour, but rained steady for quite some time so everything got some good moisture.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

71 here and dark, too.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Don't know what it is like outside yet - too dark to see!! But yesterday was gorgeous. I puttered around outside for a little while but still have to take it easy on my knee. Then DH and I had to do some errands and ended up going for a ride to visit DD#1 who was working on a playground project - almost to the Vermont border. Nice day to do some leaf peeking!! We kinda had a thunder storm last night (went around us) but we did manage to get some rain - don't know hos much yet cause it's too dark to see the rain gauge. All my problems would be solved if it just got light outside earlier!! LOL Eleanor

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Eleanor. At 71 I could be doing a lot outside but the darkness keeps me in here. We need to write a letter of complaint!

62 Getting light.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

The temp has gone down three degees. It's now at 60 with a pretty strong breeze. (There go the leaves!)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I wish I had a breeze - It's about 62 and humid. I refuse to put on the AC in October, but it came close yesterday. It got into the upper 80's in the house!!! Has anyone ever checked out this webpage.. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/index.htm - very interesting. I actually love NOAA's entire website.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It is a great site, Anita.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Cloudy & 61. supposed to get to about 72 today. actually that's my kind of a fall day. should be great for working outside :-))

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

74 and muggy but a nice breeze is kicking up.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Temp 64.4°F, Humidity 50%, Windchill 64.4°F, Dewpoint 51.8°F, Barometer 29.88, Barometric trend; steady, wind speed 0.0mph (last direction 130° SE), rain 0.00".
ps. Had a Davis for several years, switched to a La Crosse, radio transmission and solar powered sensors - much better, less maintenance, more flexibility, reasonable price. :)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi WC. Surprised to hear that about the weather stations. Which Davis model did you have? What did you not like about it. Which LaCrosse one do you have? Thanks.

Victor

Candyce - 4:40 a.m. after being pooped from the RU last night????!!! What were you doing up so early, girl??? I know you are a morning person too, but Oh MY!!! I thought you might sleep in after such a full day yesterday! Whew!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Never too tired to chat with my 'buds'.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Candyce - are you betting we'll have the most posts or games? Being on both I think we'll be very close.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I think a few of us feel that way too!! LOL My DH just came home from his Adirondacks weekend, and he's advising me to get up and move around and not get stiff sitting here for so long on the computer!! LOL Stiff, Schmiff......I can't miss out......I know I should listen to him, and he brought me a gorgeous basket from Vermont, so I really should be a good girl, but...........can't miss the chatting!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I am working towards seeing our NEG in first place again, pirl. Oh yeah!!!

What kind of basket, Louise?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I don't know the maker of the basket, Candyce, but it has an unusual shape and lovely weaving, with a nice handle....it's the perfect size for so many uses.......like serving muffins, or holding a plant or lots of other things. it is round but tapered with a broader, solid base. Very nice!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi VG;
I had the most advanced model Davis had which gave real time wind speed and direction, (of course this meant a hard wire). The exact model # I cant say, since when I threw it in the garbage I looked the other way & never wanted to see it again! I had to climb to the roof at least twice a year to clean the base of the remote wind sensor, it always got full of dust, etc. and hampered the works. Now they sell a "rubber boot" separately as a replacement item to keep the dust out, so I suppose one would have to climb the roof to replace the boot which would eventually crack and harden with the sun. That is of course after you disassemble the sensor to put it in place, so dont forget to bring your tiny 1/16" hex screwdriver with you when you replace it.
The Temp/Humidity sensor has openings enough for a small spider to sneak in and build a nest. - guess what? That's exactly what one did on my system! It shorted the sensor's pc board! After speaking to a tech I had to send it to Davis in California, they sent me a new one.
The info for computer download would freeze up while downloading and I would loose 3 months of data, (it conveniently 'auto-cleared' all the memory after reboot). - Nightmare City !!!

Now I have a La Crosse WS-2210, had it for 3yrs now, everything works beautifully, no more trips to the roof, no more lost data, no more cobwebs. The sensors are solar powered so I don't even have to change the batteries. The only difference is that it gives me updated info every 3 minutes because it's radio transmission instead of hard wire. (* I can live with that!) The icing on the cake is that it cost 1/2 the price of the Davis and is a much better system in my humble opinion. :)
Got an extra serious looking station (the black one). for the bedroom and have the original fancy (long one) in the living room, (you can add stations and sensors to the main system.) It has alarms and all that stuff if you need them, (personally, I don't like to wake up at 3am if the temp dips below 32°, but that's just me...)

* about the pic: I set the one on the right for dewpoint readout instead of temperature. Windchill comes in very handy and wind direction is great for fishing the shore, ( I have a hard enough time tossing 4oz lead out there without having to fight the wind!).
* Whichever one you choose, Davis or La Crosse - good luck. :-))

It sounds gorgeous!!
Have you ever been over to Peterborough Baskets? I'll bet you have. I've never gone, and they're just over the hill from me. What a shame, huh?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Yes, Candyce, I have been there, and I have a couple of their baskets in my small collection. I love baskets and use them for so many things. You should go........lots of variety! ...and they are very well made!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

OK - you have convinced me, Louise.

Now back to the topic ....
It's 53 degrees, very clear and the winds are gone. The humidity is still a bit high at 73%. It got hot today while Anna and I were working on creating space on the back hill in which to plant our RU treasures. Thankfully, it didn't take too long to get them into the ground because the sun was HOT!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

WC2, thanks so much for that in-depth reply! It's very useful. What is the range of the wireless transmission between the sensors and the main station? No problem going through the walls? Thanks again.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

50 degrees here now....a cool night for sleeping!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

VG... you're welcome :-)
It's has a 330 ft range, I was worried about the walls also but, "no problem". I have the farthest transmitter about 40ft from the base station(s) and it syncs and goes thru self test fine. Remember the signal wont be going thru the walls it would be going thru the ceiling, it picks the shortest route, just like electricity.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks again!

(Zone 4a)

Yucky this weekend but of course it is the long weekend - so go figure! Ugh!!!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Good morning to you all!! It's dark out, but I don't need to see to know what's going on - it's thundering!! Eleanor

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No thunder here. It's 63 with a high of 75 expected and a mix of sun with the usual "30% chance of showers", which haven't happened.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

No thunder here yet, but we sure are getting some much-needed rain!
Still dark.
54 degrees.
wind out of the NE @ 2MPH
humidity is 82%

It may get as warm as 70 today. Showers off and on all day.
Hooray!!!!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

It is raining a lot right now - not sure how long it will last!! Eleanor

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Lucky you! Victor and I are so jealous!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning! 68 here with a high of 80 predicted. partly sunny. I will be in the pool (yay!). probably the last swim of the season. never been in October before. I also have daylilies to plant.

I wish rain for those of you who are still dry. It is supposed to rain here again tonight and pretty much be rainy off and on for the rest of the week.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Candyce - Games beat us by FIVE posts!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

45 here and misting this morning. Rained most of the night which made for a very cool damp wake up!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Pixie - how about sharing?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I wish I could Pirl.....but Mother Nature is not being nice and letting me share!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Rats!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

65 and muggy. Will hit around 85. Pirl, I hope you realize you're personally responsible for us coming in second!! And any others who joined in at Games. Hee hee. Should we demand a recount??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)
