WaterCan2 wrote: Hi VG; I had the most advanced model Davis had which gave real time wind speed and direction, (of course this meant a hard wire). The exact model # I cant say, since when I threw it in the garbage I looked the other way & never wanted to see it again! I had to climb to the roof at least twice a year to clean the base of the remote wind sensor, it always got full of dust, etc. and hampered the works. Now they sell a "rubber boot" separately as a replacement item to keep the dust out, so I suppose one would have to climb the roof to replace the boot which would eventually crack and harden with the sun. That is of course after you disassemble the sensor to put it in place, so dont forget to bring your tiny 1/16" hex screwdriver with you when you replace it. The Temp/Humidity sensor has openings enough for a small spider to sneak in and build a nest. - guess what? That's exactly what one did on my system! It shorted the sensor's pc board! After speaking to a tech I had to send it to Davis in California, they sent me a new one. The info for computer download would freeze up while downloading and I would loose 3 months of data, (it conveniently 'auto-cleared' all the memory after reboot). - Nightmare City !!! Now I have a La Crosse WS-2210, had it for 3yrs now, everything works beautifully, no more trips to the roof, no more lost data, no more cobwebs. The sensors are solar powered so I don't even have to change the batteries. The only difference is that it gives me updated info every 3 minutes because it's radio transmission instead of hard wire. (* I can live with that!) The icing on the cake is that it cost 1/2 the price of the Davis and is a much better system in my humble opinion. :) Got an extra serious looking station (the black one). for the bedroom and have the original fancy (long one) in the living room, (you can add stations and sensors to the main system.) It has alarms and all that stuff if you need them, (personally, I don't like to wake up at 3am if the temp dips below 32°, but that's just me...) * about the pic: I set the one on the right for dewpoint readout instead of temperature. Windchill comes in very handy and wind direction is great for fishing the shore, ( I have a hard enough time tossing 4oz lead out there without having to fight the wind!). * Whichever one you choose, Davis or La Crosse - good luck. :-)) |
