Today's Weather in Your Garden 2

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It just slipped down to 59 degrees, and it's still drizzly. I see by the weather radar that most of us are getting some moisture this morning.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Calling for overnight temp of 42!! Is this Maine?

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I haven't dared look at what our overnight temps might be!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hey Victor! Your past Maine, temp wise........ it's 59 here and our lows for tonight is 43. I think that's Dawn's weather from Canada your getting! lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Better take my Coleus cuttings today!!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Light rain and 58 degrees. About a quarter inch in rain gauge from last night and this am so far. Occasional light breeze. Rain twice in one week very nice. :)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, very nice, ngam. No need to water this week. I think we are entering our rainy season.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I got Dawn's weather - 33 last night with frost on my car.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Frost is a five letter nasty word, Al.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Tell me about it, I thought it was too windy and cloudy to consider it.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Ewww no! (holding hands up in protective cross sign) I can't get my head around that stuff yet. Please... I want a few more more weeks before everything gets zapped. Al hope it goes away and leaves you alone for a bit longer.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Al - does frost usually come that early for you? How did the dahlias react?

I'm with ngam - no frost warnings, please!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - 33?!! Maybe you should be in the Canadian forum too.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Funny!

It's pouring here now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Temp down to 58 now. Just drizzle and dark overcast.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

nice steady rain... I love it... so wonderful... plants are happy... turtles are inside today .... Lilly and I are in bed still... well, we had breakfast and now we are back in bed... and WOODY is outside... can't believe this creature...

Assonet, MA(Zone 6b)

No frost here, (timidly looking over my shoulder as I write that), 65 degrees, slight wind. steady soaking rain all am. Even the south lawn is greening up. The night temps. are predicted to be in the 40s and that is low enough to make me on edge re the plants that haven't arived yet, and there a few Asiatic Lillies that have to be moved. My garden is still too full to transplant them yet. I tried to rush things and broke one from it's bulb. I'm so annoyed with myself. I dug down over a foot, and I know I planted the bulb at 6-7". Darn. So, I'm waiting for the garden to thin out some more. Sure hope the weather holds out.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

daiseycat - Asiatic lily stems can wander as they make their annual trip upwards. I wish I knew of a 100% totally safe way to advise you to dig them but I don't. I've cut off many by trying to dig and now just try to keep them out of the path.

Skies clearing and sun emerging!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Steady rain from 9-12 ,,,now it's pouring!
Wow Al, 33 all read? I think that qualifies you for zone 4!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Sun trying to work its way out now, gusty wind, still only 58 degrees.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Blue skies with big puffy clouds and the sun is playing hide and seed. I'm hiding.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Sunny and breezy. 62 degrees. Beautiful lilies, pirl.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

64 here. Sun is in and out - sunny right now. Breezy.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Harper. I'm really trying to get up and get out - honestly.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Well, I hate to bring it up again, but they have just issued a Frost Advisory for our area this evening!!!!!

And to think we spent a good hour this afternoon planting daylilies and creeping phlox. I think that they will both be OK, won't they?

Right now ~ 57 degrees slightly overcast, but not overcast enough to keep the frost at bay.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, the daylilies and phlox should be fine. If you get a frost the daylily leaves will go limp but it's the roots that are really important right now. They should be fine.

Assonet, MA(Zone 6b)

Good morning. It's 43 degrees and foggy. Only expected to go to the high sixties. There is a golden, pinkish, hue just starting at the horizon. The air is crisp and clean. The only sounds are a slight rustle of leaves and the crickets. My favorite time of day. Thank you pirl, you made me feel better. Now I know to be even more cautious when digging for the bulbs. I really was puzzled by their positions.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Cool here. Haven't checked the temperature and can't believe the 63 I see at the top of my screen. Very quiet here, too. Just the sound of the keyboard.

Quite welcome, daiseycat, those Asiatics go left, right and every which way before they emerge. I've cut the stems off so many by believing I knew (ha!) where to dig. I remove all stones when I dig and had thought the stems might be working their way around any obstacle they found but even when planted as a group and after almost sifting the soil, they still may wander.

Just checked and it's 53 here.

Suns up a little, looked at thermometer outside, only 38 chilly degrees. Too early for thirty somethings for me. Hope this trend turns around for a bit.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

We missed it by this much!

It's a balmy 33 degrees with a crisp, clear sky and no breeze.
We may have missed the frost by a hair, but we have the same advisory for tonight.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

ngam:

Our forecaster says that it will be pretty much the same all week long and into next weekend. I'm with you. I'm not ready for it.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Don't know the temp outside but inside I'm cold and turned on the heat!! Eleanor

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

The wood furnace was going all night long. I fed it this morning, and it's still 66 degrees inside the house. It's a hungry wood furnace!!

COLD - People who are south of me. Keep your eyes in the sky. Some geese are headed south this morning.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Sherrie:

You are about 30 miles north of me. What is your temp this AM? Did you get any frost? We have the same Advisory for tonight for frost.

It is 40 right now. My husband delivers papers. He left at 3:30 AM and got home around 5:45 (just getting light) I aked him if we had a frost and he said - no. Tonight is not looking good at all.

Sherrie

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)
