Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Part14..Friends

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm back....reluctantly! It was VERY hard leaving the beach! Everything about last week was perfect! The weather; the house; the company - all of it!!! I took so many pictures of my new grand niece that I didn't take many of anything else!

The house was everything the description said it would be! We were right on the beach - no dunes blocking our view. The walkway down to the beach was flat so no prob for my DFIL getting down there. The water temp was perfect and it was VERY clear. We could see down to our feet in 6' of water! The tides were perfect too - I love to hunt for shells and low tide is the best time to do it. Low tides were from noon to 5pm the whole week! On friday, we took the ferry over to Okracoke Island and went 4-wheeling on the beachin two of the trucks we had. One of them overheated so we had to stop for awhile to let it cool down. NO prob! It was the perfect time to hunt for shells! LOW TIDE! I'm talking inches of water out 30' feet or more in places. Tidal pools everywhere. I was in heaven! I found some sand dollar pieces and conch shells. They had to drag me off the beach when they got the truck going! We ate dinner at one of the local joints then caught the ferry backover to Hatteras.

This was our first time staying on Hatteras Island and it was by far the best! None of the tourist junk that is up in Nags Head. No traffic; empty beaches; no mad rush to the Food Lion. They had a little mom & pop grocery store that had everything we needed. The prices were higher but it was worth it! We will definitely stay here again next year!

I fully intended to get online last week but realized my laptop was dead and I had forgotten the power cord (can you say "DUH"?). I did have my Blackberry so I rec'd emails from work. One I rec'd Friday was from one of the guys I had interviewed with. He was letting me know that due to some reorganizing they have done, they have been able to fill the role I was interviewing for from within so therefore that position is gone. I'll log back on tomorrow to see what else may be out there.

We picked up Murphy on the way home and it was so good to see him! He has grown so much in just a week! He was filthy and smelled really bad so I think he had a good time! He had crusty spots all over his back which I realized was slobber from the other dogs! Gotta love it! It promptly went in the tub when we got home and settled and he smells 100 times better! He's now conked out on the floor and I don't expect him to move till morning!!

Got home to a lot of dried up plants and mammoth gourd vines. They certainly didn't suffer from the lack of water! The dead plants I'm ok with. It's getting to be that time where I pull it all up and call it a night! I do have a gorgeous morning glory that is finally blooming. I've posted a pic below.

Well, tomorrow will be laundry day and get the kids ready for school on Tuesday. I will try to check in and see how everyone is doing.

I'm glad to be back (really!)

Looking forward to photo's of your niece as well as those of your week..now how many miles from home was this piece of heaven?
We did miss you...soooo excited you are back....

Trop..what are you up to today....

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm packing about 8 boxes for trading. Really not sure why I had to get so excessive, but I really enjoy trading plants. Gotta get the little one back on track for school tommorrow and I imagine we'll play some yard games. Boyfriend kicked my but at bocce last night, but I'm doing ok at croquet these days. The weather has been nicer so I'd almost like to ge ot the badminton...can you tell I like silly outdoor games?

Here's a flower for your bithday tangie, curcuma 'blue tung'

Trop..those games are keeping you fit! Love the flower...next year will have to consider 'trades' if my plants are 'trade quality'...lol...

Can you imagine, still in jammies..talked to a few girlfriends..better get a move on..computer downstairs in location that I can look at the faux fireplace I made..I bought the log electric insert Sat. so I have it sitting in front of the fireplace..measuring and wondering about taking on the project of cutting a hole and inserting it...hmmmm..on a lazy streak today so not sure what to do..lol...

hello,

well that is just cool!

Best? hubbys hours at work changed so he is home an hour earlier which is before i go to bed so i get to see him more.

worst? still not well but getting better, manager at work still a problem, have to seriously think abut what to do, sigh...

have a good day...

happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura...sounds like you are always out helping someone..perhaps it's time that you just REST! Can't expect to get your strength back both physically and mentally....are your children in school..ours just completed 2 months off and return tomorrow morning..called the boys and none are to excited about going back..lol..

Did complete the baseboard trim in washroom this morning and then my girlfriend Dianne came to visit for a few hours..had been weeks since I saw her..brought me apples from her moms' garden...no sooner had she left and I started doing other projects did Kathy drop in for a visit..she's had a blood clot in her leg and hasn't been around much..leg still very, very swollen..she stayed about an hour...thought about making lunch before I got into a project and Anne dropped in! So, after they left I decided that installing the fireplace insert would have to wait and just enjoy my 'friendship day'....spoke with mom, Jeff and girlfriend Liz from Ireland and that about covered the day!

Was going to make a couple of pies apple pies and as I had more rhubbarb from yesterday to cook (did a batch on Sat.) I could make more sauce...changed it to 'applesauce' lordy it was good...then put the rhubbarb on, got some decorating books out to look at pictures, lol, and fell asleep..woke up to smoke detector..burnt/burnt pot..excuse to pick up a new one I guess! Now that tells you something about my cooking ability...

Know it's just 8pm..but am tired and will have an early night...

Best of the day..getting the projects I had on my 'to do' list completed...a few more clean corners...
Worse...burning rhubbarb and pot
What did I learn..DO NOT get comfy while cooking...or...you just might not have a home...fires aren't pretty...a few people burnt to death over the weekend...very sad..so I'd better get my act into gear when I'm near stoves...

Hope your long weekend was enjoyable...I'm off to bed..talk tomorrow...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Happy birthday Tangi, hope you had a terrific one and stayed cool too.

We had a Tornado about ahalf a mile away from me the other day and i was visiting my friend in the Hospital and missed it, when i got home we had no power all night until about Midnight or so, and it was so hot and boring. this humidity with no rain is killing me, and the day it poured,(tornado day), I wasn't around the area.

Betty you are right I am psycic, your son is right, all things with balance, If you put your back out trying to do everything, then when you want to do other stuff, you may not be able to do it. Do it but pace yourself miss impatience. While I am being motherly, How is that water drinking going too in this heat with all these projects going?

Best yesterday was we went to friend's and played the game Gestures with about ten people and it was funny, plus saw a lightning strike cause a fire and called 911 before it got huge, that was good for me. Today was mellow and we just stayed home and i cooked for my honey a nice BBQ and dessert, he said I deserved new furniture so that is best.

worst, tomorrow i have to go back to my school and i have a tough week ahead possibly but that is tomorrow, so no real bad today.

Pacifica, CA

evening all,

wow you have all been busy......

had a great weekend, cousin didnt go, he had been watching the weather and noticed that napa was in the high 80-90 he lives on the coast so his sinus issues and the heat made him stay home.
but we had fun fil loved the company and kept entertained watching the dogs chase the poor cats up the tree finaly the cats went into the garage to unwind everytime you went out in the garage omg mishew would arch his back and hiss up a storm.
friday was challenging for dh he had his shot he did pretty good with it, it was hot, there was the cricket outside the window, the dog licking his paw, i guess i was pulling the paint off the celling poor guy couldnt get to sleep lol

sat fil gave me the stained glass, the solder gun the nails but we cant find the patterns and the lead now, we tore the place appart we think it may be in a trunk in the attic ,next week then mil said she found the boxes of porcelain dolls she told me to take them all omg there is a lot of them im having a hard time fitting them on the shelves, after all that i thought we were going to have a quiet evening nope......
mil decided she wanted to go to the indian casino cashe creek its about 1 hour away its 7:30 so needless to say dh ,mil and myself went, fil wasnt feeling good he said he wanted to stay home with the dogs.
we didnt win actually lost 200.00 but the .25 wheel of fourtune machine kept dh and i busy mil well we lost her at the card tables lol and then we found thease two cent machines oh boy we were there for hours we got home at 1.45 am then sat and yapped with fil.

sunday, packed up the truck and got out of dodge at 11.00 the rest of sun and mon i needed to rest now its time for bed i'll post to each of you in the morning liz

you had a busy weekend fireplace is beautiful and the floor to glad you got to go out boating that was a cute picture of the cat what kind of roses did you get? are they for the picture frame area in the yard? well i have to get ready for work so everyone have a wonderful day liz

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

so much to catch up on, I don't think I can do it all.
If you join us on the Shar/Kay thread in the prayer forum, you can read all about my weekend with Ethan....disastrous, he had a tummy virus and was sick the entire time. He survived, not sure I have yet.
Anyway....
tangie, I have missed hearing from you, it hurt me to hear about your fall, hurt me more to realize I had missed your birthday......but i am so glad to see your lovely pictures. we have still had no rain to speak of, and i only have a few things blooming. I do hope you are feeling much better, and that life is much brighter for you this week, also painless.

betty, what can I say.....you just keep moving right along. I love the qulted sweater knitting that you sent....and I am anxious to get started on it. Sorry that I look at myself as gigantic, but next time, I will do better. this sweater will be for my daughter, since she is much bigger than I am, and I promise I will be better able to give you perfect measurements when I can compare myself to the size this sweater.will become.
all my fault, certainly not yours. I guess I was thinking that I could just adjust the sleeves and bands......as if they were regular fabric instead of knitted. Duh!!!
BTW, am doing the same thing to my bathroom floors, a temporary fix till I can get a floor guy in to do some under the house repairs, then I will do the real thing.

Liz, how fun to have all the porcelain dolls and all the stained glass stuff. can't wait to see how all that inspires you.

I love hearing about your vacations, your trips, your boating and beach events.....just am not going to respond to everybody simply because such a post would take days to read. But thanks for the photos they are the best.

get well, Tangie.....heads up Laura, keep on keeping on dawn, and all of you have a good week.

Here's ethan and his daddy.......yesterday was Alyn's birthday and Ethan and I ran to the grocery to pick out a little cake that Ethan could decorate....they left shortly after, and I crashed. for the remainder of the day and night.

Thumbnail by Sharran
Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

So liz, what'd you do?

Sharran....aww.......

yesterday best: I won at bocce last night, it was a close one, though

worst: sometimes laying around the house on a holiday is dull, we should have planned something probably

what I learned: just typical man stuff--why bother moving when the remote is within arm's reach

here's a pic of my garden, I've been pretty busy. The cat sprawled out is Alice Cooper, who is much better after getting into something that bit her, and antibiotics, etc.

OMG..just wrote a book, going from msn talk to posting, went to look at a photo and you guessed it lost my entire post...been typing for over 1/2 hr...sighing...stupid me...well guess I'll start over...

It's a hazy day today..rain on it's way..BIL called to say he'd not get into the office much before noon as he was stopping off to take photo's of new building..everything in place to close end of Sept. .. just waiting for appraisal..if it matching the asking price then it's a go..so let's hope!

Long way in this morning even though we got to work on time..major accident on HWY.400S. not far from home..that makes 13 deaths this past weekend...they still have the highway closed for an investigation...hopefully will reopen when it's time to go home...very tragic..everyone is travelling much to fast...nothing for all to be going 120-140kl. bumper to bumper..only takes one person making a change and accident ready to happen..I rarely go on these highways on weekends..tend to go if I must at 8am while everyone is still sleeping...

Shar..two good looking men for sure...handsome/handsome....if weather is anything like here, overcast, cooler side and calling for rain, then you can just put your feet up, relax and think of the wonderful memories you've had over the weekend...not so wonderful Ethan sick though..he is right..so nice to have grandma to look after him...
Not a problem about the knitting...what you want to do is pick an old sweater you no longer wear and send it to me..then I can judge the next set to actual measurements...have time on my hands so off to the Post Office and mail it to me..lol...

Dawn, must have been terrifying for those in your area to see such a storm go through..hope it didn't leave a lot of destruction as it passed through..no deaths I hope!
How is your girlfriend doing? Will she have to stay in hospital for awhile...and your dad..any news on his condition..bet you are worried sick... Still dieting but lordy, hardest part is not the diet it's drinking water..can't get beyond 2 bottles...Gestures? now would that be an adult type game..love picking up new games for my sons at Christmas..sooo what day are you out shopping for new furniture? better do it before Greg finds beauty in what you have now..lol...as for schooling, know it's not your thing but before you know it, you'll have to knowledge to take on a new career..that will surely be exciting..how's Greg doing..improving daily I hope..

Going to send part 1 just incase I screw up again..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tropicanna..love your yard...green/green...must have had rain a lot in your neck of the woods or the capability of watering...Alice Cooper looks well rested just sitting enjoying the beauty and serenity of the garden...next holiday is 'Thanksgiving' so maybe you can plan something then..ours is in October, yours not till late November right?

Murmur...how's that new grandchild...did you get to visit both your folks and your DD this past weekend...you are probably running out of energy by now!!!

Jan..worried about you..not posting so that must mean you are still in mega pain..let's hope not...what kind of treats did you get for your birthday... hope everyone spoilt 'you' you sure deserve it...

Liz..you were so looking forward to your cousin joining you...you must have been so disappointed!! Perhaps another time...sounds like all the 'furry' friends got to enjoy the weekend..must have been a hoot watching them...wow..your own stained glass equipment..you must tell me what your first project will be..I've mega patterns..always willing to share...Do you collect porcelain dolls? My mom collects Royal Dalton figurines AND makes procelain dolls to size..from newborns to almost 5yrs...every room of her house...collects a lot of dust I'm sure...they are deciding to sell their home in the city to spend 6 months at cottage and 6 months in Florida..if so, guess who she thinks should house all these collectables...my other sibblings are not interested..because I love country and admire her work she thinks they will be mine..yuk..not my thing..don't mind a few but not in every room, every corner etc. I'll not tell her now though..lol..coward right! Sorry you didn't win at the casino..mom says that she went to Rama on Fri./Sat. and didn't win..said she should have know better because on long weekends they tend to turn down the machines..her theory but then she always wins so who knows, maybe something in that way of thinking..she did go however to Toronto Woodbine racetrack that has slots last Wedn. or Thurs. and won 2 jackpots..ended up going home with about $800.00..lucky lady!!! $7K last week as well...she's got it all spent..new jacuzzi for the cottage and hot tub...

Laura..won't it be nice to have DH home that one extra hour..nice to be able to share trials and tribulations of the day..gives you support..that should help you somewhat..don't be hasty about your job...be strong...and be NICE..that will really aggrevate her...why should you loose out on good employment...have you ever asked to sit with her and discuss what the problem is? The photo you posted of your children, my goodness a few look so youthful..thought for sure they were in the school system...don't tell them that..know they want to look mature...lol

As for your mirrors.. am sending you a D-mail....

Starz..did you enjoy the same weather as we did up north..one day I'll have to take a drive to see those wonderful gardens of yours..you are so creative...hope you got to enjoy some time with those grandaughters...

Now that I've posted and still have hours in my day, think I'll take those christmas balls out and finish them...lol...talk later...do so enjoy ALL your posts..you are all very special to me...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Tropi,
could I please come stay in your garden for a few days and just relax and rest and be surrounded by all that peace and calm?
It is so beautiful, and i want to be there now!!!!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks for the compliments, guys! It's been lots of hard work actually, and hardly any rain at all-we're in extreme drought. I'm really happy with how it's come together for the work of one hyper little chick.

And Sharran, it's so calm and peaceful now....until the neighbors start fighting and cursing in the yard and stuff...trying to put as much barrier between the two houses as possible......lol

Betty---ugh--this year is Thanksgiving at the in-laws...feeling sick already. That MIL woman can't cook to save her life. Oh well, at least Christmas is with my family this year. I think I 'm taking a road trip or something before then. One of my good friends contacted me about seeing George Clinton & the P-Funk All-Stars (anyone remember them?) at the end of the month.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Couldn't resist posting the following:

National Family/friends week

READ THIS VERY SLOWLY... IT'S PRETTY PROFOUND.

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just
because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule,
didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the
Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort
to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their
husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had
been thawed?
Does the word "refrigeration" mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in
silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, "How
about going to lunch in a half hour?" She would gas up and stammer, "I
can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known
yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain." And my personal
favorite: "It's Monday." She died a few years ago. We never did have
lunch together.

Because we cram so much into their lives, we tend to
schedule our headaches.. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to
ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve
toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet.
We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer.
One morning,we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I'm
going to," "I plan on," and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit."

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to
adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas.
Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five
minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Roller blades and
skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream.
It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a
spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped
the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way
home, I would have died happy.

Now..go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not
something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had
only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would
you say? And why are you waiting?

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent
this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or
listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic
flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each
day on the fly?

When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next
hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, "We'll do it
tomorrow." And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a
good friendship die? Just call to say "Hi"?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened
gift....Thrown away....

Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

It's National Friendship and FAMILY WEEK Show your friends how
much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.

To those I have sent this to.. I cherish our friendship and appreciate all you do.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!"

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trop..either out of touch or too old to know who they are..talking about mom's that can't cook..my boys never let me forget it... but then last night with the fire alarm going off, burning pot and rhubbarb sauce..I can see their point..even the grandchildren joke that I can burn water...but they love me...isn't that what restaurants are for????? lol

Shar..maybe I should pick you up and well visit Trop's paradise...what do you think...

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I like that Betty--and the monster outlaw can't cook (at least in my opinion, I don't like eating stuff that's saturated in grease, fat, and butter, personally) , but she sure insists on being in the kitchen. Glad my life has meant more than cooking and cleaning. Did I say that out loud? Man that was mean

Anyway, y'all are more than welcome to come visit anytime...Betty I don't know any canadian men, but always willing to go for something different if you'd pick up a few on the way. And Sharran, you don't have to tell me about Kentucky men, I already know, so a couple of those would look great in the yard. In fact, if they could all come in trucks with loads of mulch..ready to work...lol

Hi Everyone!
Whew -It has been a very busy hectic morning. Taking a lunch break so thought I would drop in to say Howdy!

Weekend getaway was just a load of relaxing fun. Sat in the A.M. and watched humming birds come to feed. Tried many times to capture on film but my shutter is very slow so any that I did catch was not to good of pics. Well I didn't catch a fish, but my little man did. He got 2! I am really behind the times for camping anymore, Our friends Pamm & Joe have a latern that runs on batteries and get this a REMOTE!! Oh man had to take a picture just for you Tangi! LOL. In the pic you see who has the remote. ROFL...
So the most work I did was help kids set up the tent...Went for a nice little walk around the grounds and took a few pics. I love the road signs all have to do with fishing-Very cute. Found one tree that was filled with birdhouses of all kinds and sizes, and while everyone was still fishing I sat and wrote a letter lil sis. Could help but enjoy the serenity. Most of the campers had departed so it was just so peaceful and beautiful. After lunch we went off to the beach! Very nice, water refreshing since it was about 90 degrees. Then came back to camper and had a bbq, which the guys cooked, it was wonderful!

Here's my Jacob with his first catch, ran all the way back to show us...and get a bucket-He was going to catch enough to make lunch...but only caught 2 so he set them free.
