Hi ladies..I can't keep up like you all do. So I hope it is ok if I just say hello once in awhile.
Thanks for all the kind comments about my trip.
Here is a pic overlooking Montreal from Mount Royal..my sister is the blonde.

Betty your handpainted Christmas balls are wonderful. You do things so quickly..and with such talent.
Your birdcage is a nice decorative and fun touch to your deck. I'll bet your garndkids will love it.

Wonder..I hope you enjoy your weekend outing.

Liz..aren't ill-fitting shoes awful..they feel ok in the store..but when you get them home..not so good.
Congrats on your good review.

Seedtosser..you told that story so well I could imagine it as I read..what a funny story.

Yesterday my eldest son came over and installed my new water heater..the old one was rusted and leaking..and it was only 3 years old..so it was covered under warranty. It was his birthday so later I went to join his family for pizza and Ice Cream cake at their home. I gave him a 8lb. sledge hammer..he had borrowed my small one and when I wanted it I couldn't find it..and had to think back..but not before I had looked all over the garage..so now he has his own.

This morning I just did the grocery shopping and a couple of errands. I'm having my lunch at the computer. Fresh tomato from the gadren on pumpernickle bread.I planted one Brandywine plant this year to try..very good flavour...and a bit more solid than my Beefmasters. Do any of you eat and drink at the computer?

Well I better do some deadheading outside this afternoon. Hasn't been done in a week.

Cheers,
Carol

I'm eating lunch right now Carol! I eat and drink at the computer lots during the day.

Yesterday best: having a relaxing evening where I didn't have tooo much to do

worst: kinda lost my cool with one of my clients who calls me continuously but doesn't leave messages---wasn't overly upset, just very firm that it was not acceptable to call me nonstop 6 times in a row during lunch.

What I learned: It wasn't so bad to lose my cool, he apologized and sad he couldn't believe I was actually human enough (cause I'm really laid back most of the time) to get upset. Said he wouldn't do it again. So when he started complaining about something I gave him a look and he stopped and said nevermind. It was pretty funny actually.

Carol..just dropping in to say hi is wonderful..now you didn't tell us which of the 2 pretty ladies is YOU!

Laughed at you saying I do thing 'quickly' wonder why? I'll post a few photo's...Christine brought me loads of craft supplies..always likes to see what I do with them lol then June came over - bringing about 20 craft books for me..thought I might get some ideas..thanks goodness Kyle is over, decided he would cut Grandma's grass..sooo been quite a morning...as always I'll share photo's...

Said she brought me loads of glass paint because I've done about 5 weddings..probably about 1,000 wine glasses in total..paint them to match color of wedding party - roses, leaves etc. then each guest gets to take them home...lot of stealing happens..lol...so she thought I might make use of the paint..also 3 boxes of gallery glass 'stained glass' so plenty to keep me busy..wanted to pay her for materials but she said 'Betty, what goes around always comes around' so very thoughtful...

She no sooner left, then this lovely lady dropped by with craft books

Starzz, told my DG friends that if they d-mailed me their address I'd put one in the mail...???? if interested, it would be my pleasure...

Trop, I also eat at my computer most of the time both at work and here at the house...

Well Kyle's in for a pop so off I go..

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Aww...Betty, how sweet!

So how much are you having to pay him? I know how kids are these days...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Wow Betty..you will have lots of goodies to show us now..20 books..your mind will be spinning.
I am the brown haired one.
Here is one of me under a street sign. My maiden name was Dowd..and when I was looking at the map of Old Montreal I came across one named Rue Dowd...with small letters at the top Russell J. Well I don't know of anyone who is named Russell in our immediate family and I asked our 92 year old aunt..(she knows a lot of family history..) but she didn't know either.
But it was fun to have a look and take a photo..it is just a small street and it was under some construction.

Cheers,
Carol

What a great looking boy..and so kind to cut the grass for you. He must be strong to be able to do it at 11 years old. Grandkids are so much fun.

Tropicana..well with Betty..that makes three of us that eat at the computer..LOL..just have to shake the crumbs out of the keyboard once in a while.

Cheers,
Carol

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL, I sit far back when I'm eating.

My parents...now there's a different story....I clean their keyboard every time I visit because they not only eat and drink, but Mom also smokes in front of the computer...food, coffee spills, ashes..yuck, the keys stick...ewwww. The next day it looks just as bad as before I cleaned it, "I don't know why I bother..."

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can you imagine, it's 3:32..just got back from Midland, took Kyle shopping for treats..foot was paining..I'm a pain..all these minor aches and pains..anyway can hardly walk on right foot..when Christine was here she checked and said that underneath the toes the skin is cut - as though a razor had cut it across 3 toes..have no idea where that or how that could have happened..so was thinking that knowing how emerg you have to wait 6 or 8 hrs. and this is so minor, that I'd watch it because the redness is up over the top of my foot..I bathed with epson salts in the water..put medication but if it looks like the red is moving then I'll take a late night trip to the hospital..haven't been to the doctor's in well over 2 years if not 3 .. just hate bothering them with these minor details but will do if I think it needs looking after...

While bathing the telephone rang and it was the gentleman who he and his wife were coming tomorrow night B&B..they were in Barrie and she started to take convulsion..she's in Barrie Hospital and they are sending her to the city..so they cancelled out..which is understandable, so I said to myself, self..you clean last night and today for NOT..lol..just kidding..not much to clean..no one messes it's more the fluff from the dog...

Carol..love the picture..pretty lady..isn't it amazing that all we DG girls are pretty ladies..must be our love for flowers and people that brings the beauty...lol...isn't that very interesting about the street name..who knows, maybe back in history your ancestors may have done something to warrant it..now that's something you should spend time on..find out how the street was names...

Trop..you'll have to buy bib's with pockets for those parents...mind you keyboards aren't very expensive..let them fill it with food, and then you'll have a great idea as to what to buy them for 'Christmas'...

Kyle got me to come downstairs awhile ago and check an inflatable boat he wants for Christmas..the motor he'll purchase on his own..he hardly spends $$$ he earns and has, i.e. the $100.00 I gave him when we won Bingo is still in his acct...anyway, his mom and dad said they would get it for him for Christmas..was showing me a cover that goes with it..$129.99 so I said he'd better put it on my Christmas list...

Kyle has a friend over so better go check on them..sent them to the store for treats...that's the nice part about being 'grandma' you can just spoil them and send them home...his friend comes over the odd week to play t.v. 'bingo' so he thinks he lives here as well..makes himself right at home..nice to see ...before you know it they'll be old enough that I doubt spending days/evenings will be much on their priority list, sooo for now..it is grandma and the boys!!

Sorry to hear about your foot! I have been finding that when I wear sandles a lot in the summer, my feet dry up and just crack. Never used to happen when I was younger! Sometimes the "cracks" can be quite deep. I must find some moisturizer for that. Hope you heal up fast!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Maybe that's what it is Beth..have been wearing lots of sandles..I surely would have noticed if I got cut on something...I'm just going to bathe it somemore and then salve again..am sure it's ok..

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

be careful betty, you just dont want infection to get in. sounds like you have it under control.

as for me, still sick.. darn it. it gone to my chest and wont shift. im on antibiotics now so hopefully that will help. not sure about my picnic now,, may not be well enough. we'll see.

had to go to bunnings (home depot over there) which is one of my favorite stores last night. hubby had been saving for a bosch electric planer and so i went and got it for him. whilst i was there i found on the clearance table 5 out door tikki burners. they stand on the ground and are about 3 1/2 feet high. the base is made of black cast iron and the bowl that holds the citronella and wick is made of copper! they are beautiful! they were $80 each but on the clearance table for $12! needless to say i bought all 5! we are doing up the BBQ area this summer so they will look great. will post pics as we go. here is the before shot.

have a great day.

Betty,

I read all your posts, but do not post hardly ever. I, like many others, however, admire you for all your talents and all the stuff you do.

It bothers me that you are taking this thing with your foot so lightly, especially if you have redness going up your foot. If there is no other cause, then infection seems to be the problem. Are you diabetic, by any chance? If yes, i would RUN, not walk tot he Doctor.

Anyway--lets just assume that your skin under your foot is just very thick and calloused and therefore the crack is fairly deep and will not heal quickly. Using a salve is a good idea. It will help soften the skin.

I want to show you another product that is vary, very good for all kinds of cracking skin, chafing and just rough and painful hands and fingers splitting, etc.
Have you ever heard of BAG BALM? It is a Farm product and is used on cow teets (udders) to keep them from chafing from milking. It is a vasaline-like salve, but is antiseptic and heals things pretty fast. I use it in the winter on my cracked cuticles and put a band aid over it at night. It is a bit greasy, so putting a good amount under your foot and then putting some gauze pads over it and a nice cotton sock as you go to bed for the night should do wonders. Do this every night until it heals up.

Bag Balm is not sold in too many stores, but Pharmacies carry it, or can order it for you. It is not expensive. The 10oz tin (oictured below) will last you for years. Here it can be had for about $6. You may also find it in the lotion department in a really small tin for almost the same price. Don't buy it off the shelf. Ask them to order you one. OR--if you have a farm supply store anywhere near you, they will surely carry it.

Here's a picture of the front. Can you make out the print?

Here's the whole tin. It is cute! Has clover on it and all that stuff and a cow's udder right in the front.

evening all,
carol, lovely pics of you and sis, oh wouldnt that be fun to find out if there's any ties to that street sign

gitagal, i to have heard of that bag balm is excelent for dry skin

betty. my goodness your just blessed with wonderful people around you how nice all that paint and books and kyle there to mow the lawn you are definatly a lady of leasure today i hope the cut is nothing serious maby some dry skin keep a eye on the redness

laura a planer thats one tool we dont have yet, you did do a good job on the clearance table
thats always where i take a quick peak, i like your yard what is that bush of pretty pink flowers

best: boss off today nice quiet day
worst: nothing bad happened
learned: the family drama has finally blown over

everyone have a terrific weekend liz

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hi,

that bush is just a plain old daisy bush but looks nice. the tree is now gone unfortunatly as it got sick and had to be cut down.

the back doesnt look this good now as all through winter its been neglected. the weeds have grown through the bricks and such. soon with the weather improving, we are going to get out there and clean it all up again. this year we are going to use salt instead of poison as i have little ones running around both human and canine and poisons are a no go. anyway, the weeder doesnt do the job. they come back! The salt however does and they dont grow back so off the get 50 lbs of salt and deal with the problem once and for all!. when its all done i will take a pic and show you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, yes I was a lady of leisure yesterday..foot is better today, at least I can move my toes, but will watch it carefully..just had a coffee on back deck..bird was a shirping lol...grass all cut, pond noise soothing, flowers coming back alive as it rained part of the day yesterday and almost all night, still lightly raining so all is well with the world...

Waiting for 9am when hairdresser is in to see if I can get a perm..house in tip top shape so again another day of relaxation...

Gitagal..thanks you for the wonderful information and yes I will drop in to pharmacy while in town to pick some up...so nice of you to be concerned...please drop a line or so from time to time..would be nice for you to join us all...

Liz, yes I am blessed with all these friends...know perhaps I bring their kindness to this thread more often than I should, but, feel that when bad things happen in our lives they are emphasized, why not tell of all the kindess out there..it is a great world with wonderful people in it...so glad to hear all the family drama is over and you are non the worse for wear..lol..

Love the back yard Laura..so very envious of you getting ready for summer and gardening..you can see ours starting to fade...OMG and you were so looking forward to the picnic..perhaps you'll wake up today and you will be feeling just well enough to go...but if you aren't it's best you rest another few days....talk about a shopper...great buys...I was at Home Depot yesterday bought grass seed and they had their plants reduced, but only by a few pennies...no bargoons, came home with 5 perennials, mostly daisy plants..trying to get heighth (?) to the picture frame garden...

Fell asleep last night so will do my reg. post....

Best..of course of the visits..
Worse..a/c gave up..
What did I learn..after seeding the areas that you've put topsoil...don't forget to sprinkle with earth..especially on hills...with all this rain, you've guessed it...everywhere but where I want it..so, once it stops raining we'll try again....
Have a nice morning all...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning Betty,
Glad to hear your foot is a bit better.
We have had some rain here too..the garden really needed it.

Have a restful day.

Gita..I have heard of Bag Balm..I will look for it as I have cracked heels from time to time.

Laura..I do hope you are well enough to go on your outing tomorrow. Thanks for the tip about salt to kill the weeds in between bricks. My sister has a hard time with the weeds between her patio bricks. Do you pour it on straight or mix it with water? You will have to show us your bargain torches when you have them put up.

Liz..I can't find any connection to the Rue Dowd..but it was fun just to have my photo taken with it. Good to hear your family uproar has settled down.

Cheers,
Carol

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

hi carol,
you just put it down as is, sweep it into the cracks if you like. be very generous with it. now is a good time for you because your coming into your winter and the rains will come and settle it into the cacks. no need to water, just let nature take its course. one or two applications and your done!

dont think the trip will be happening today, never mind.

have a good nite.

x

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry that the trip doesn't look like it will happen...I read about a solution as well..think it was equal parts salt/vinegar and then a couple of tsps. of liquid detergent...said ONLY spray where you want it to be, because it kills everything..have poison Ivy in the back yard along the bushline..late in the summer now, but will try it in the spring...

You get some more rest..probably you need to get your energy levels back up...

Tired tonight, don't know why, really didn't get much accomplished except of course a perm..rain off and on all day, you can see the winds pick up and the sky darken, think we are in for a storm...

Anne dropped in this aft. for about 1/2 hr. - still no building permit..township is knitpicking...the contractor is ready to go but everytime they think they have the building permit something else comes up..they've just signed to have new septic system put in..approx $15K and now there's about 5 more things they want done...they want you to beautify but they don't make it easy...

Then Kathy dropped in for an hour..she's about 40..single...very athletic..In mid July she was ill and it was blood cloths so she has to be very careful...the medication she's on just is up and down..was a nice visit..tried to drive her home instead of walking but she insisted that the walk would do her good...

Made supper, ate early, will go tidy up and think I'll get cozy in bed...perhaps try and read for awhile...Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, full of fun and excitement but beyond that..you are 'safe' from harm...
night all...

Pacifica, CA

evening all,

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi All,

Well, I figured I'd post before we head out on vacation. Y'all are coming, right? LOL!! I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to just sitting on the beach or beside the pool (or just laying on the couch reading!) Today was a lot of running around for last minute things. Had to drop our boy (Murphy) off at the "pet resort" we have him staying in while we're gone. I felt so guilty leaving him there! I know he will have fun though. There were 3 other golden puppies there too.

So ladies, my spa day on Thursday was wonderful. I could get very use to A: not working and B: going to the spa every week! Of course I'd have to C: find another husband who was loaded! So for my spa day, I had a full body massage which was more a "Swedish" style massage - not deep tissue which was fine for me. The hot towels and the fragrant oils were the bomb! Next I had a facial and while she was smoothing all the gook and stuff on my face, she also covered my hands in a lotion and then stuck them in plastic bags and then stuck my hands in these mits that warmed up. YUMMY! After hearing that my skin was not bad but that I did have some sun damage (who doesn't?), it was off to lunch which I had selected from a gourmet menu when I arrived. I picked the "grilled sirloin on mixed greens with a balsamic vinagerette" (la-di-dah!). It was delicious! I then took a shower to get all the oil off me. This was the only disappointing part of the day. The shower was set to 104 degrees and it was so hot, I couldn't stand under it but for a second. I tried and tried to move the dial and it would not budge! I did get about 50 seconds of tolerable water so I scrubbed real quick. After this, I was called for my pedicure. This was nice but honestly, my little girl who does it for $25 does a comparable job. They do dip your feet in parafin which was heaven! So after 4 hrs, I was quite tuckered out and really wanted a nap but it was then off to get my hair cut from my girl at the Hair Cuttery. I finally got home after 3:00 and POOF! it was back to reality: The pedicure flip flops came off and the tennis shoes went on and it was for cutting the grass, starting laundry, figuring what to cook for dinner! WHEW!

So for the week here's what I have:

Best: not working and counting down the days to vacation
Worst: dropping my puppy off at the kennel for the first time
Learned: just getting ready for vacation is a b*tch!

I will try to sign on sometime during the week to give y'all an update. Have a great week everyone!!!!

Jeannine

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine, your day way to die for..thought you had dies and gone to heaven I bet...imagine, some do this on a weekly basis...perhaps you've encouraged me now that I had a perm yesterday to do my nails and brows...ahhhh...must do them myself though! Lucky girl...and now, a vacation that also sounds heavenly! Am sure 10 minutes after you left Murphy is making friends with other pooches and is loving it..not to worry..pet palaces are meant to offer the best of care to the animals..

Did you ever hear from the gentleman you had previously worked with and re the interview you had? Or, are you hoping to get at least a few months of relaxing prior to starting new employment?

Liz, think we're both 'same minded' so probably by this time you are sitting waiting for the doors of Home Depot to open.. I should really put application in for Christmas part-time work as I know where all their product is..could teach "Christmas Crafts/using 'the big tools' " for women..hmmm..NOT...do enought 1day 'Make and Take' workshops starting in November that I've barely time for sleep...anyway, am interested in knowing what treasures came home with you...

Not raining outside and grass is changing color as I look out from the deck...flowers are standing in their glory...it's overcast, perhaps more rain, but that's ok...it was much needed..probably a little too late for the farmers though...

Well now, everything is done, inside/outside and I've a full day aheat of me so, taking out material for the cafe chair pillows (simple type cushion) and have my blackboard paint out to make a cafe sign...that should about fill my day...

So, will be back when I take my breaks..lol
Have a great day everyone!

Well sitting here debating..ran out of about 24" of sunflower material to finish cafe cushions wether or not to run into Midland .. probably 1 hr. out of my day...or just wait until another day...decisions/decisions/...did the blackboard paint but it takes forever in this humidity to dry...oh well, must get up and have breakfast..seems it should be lunch time as I've been up since early this a.m. - am pleased with myself to get back into my regular weekend routine of 'to do's..felt bad all last week were doing nothing... so am off..talk later..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow Liz,won't that be great..stained glass...you will certainly enjoy it..if you keep to sweeping glass of work area or I have a special table unit where the glass falls into it, then you won't cut yourself and you will love it..you thought you knew where to spend $$$ now, wait till you start Stained Glass...doesn't sound the best about septic overflow..yuk..not a good way to start the morning...

Was just getting ready to go to Midland for material and Greg and Kyle dropped in..thought we should go boating..so, didn't take a lot of coaxing..my cousin Doug that I was raised with, more like my brother wanted me to look at a wall that he wants me to paint a scoot on water so went up and got the photo that I can work on prior to starting...beautiful up there ... it's surrounded by rock..you have to know how to get in because it's a rockcut...wonderful afternoon..will show photos...

Doug lives on the island year round...summer it's boats, winter it's snowmobiling and on off seasons well its 'scoot' he built this scoot a few years ago..goes from water to snow..quite the contraption..run by airplane engine and large back propellor...when I was younger at Winterama weekend, the blades were not secured as they are today..one gentleman was giving rides and he went to do something and was decapitated..Doug assures me they are safe, safe and he'll take me up to the cottage for a ride this winter..thing I'll wait till the ice is in and go by snowmachine...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Guess who can't sleep? Liz, guess they are being extra cautious with the bridges in lieu of what happened in Minnesota...can't be too careful but on a long weekend it will be kaos..is there an alternate route you can take even though it will be longer? Slumber party..sounds like fun..not sure what my long-weekend will hold...might take one day and travel by boat to SansSouci..quite the ride providing the winds are down...

Just can't sleep..been fighting tossing and turning so now I've been up for awhile I'll try sleeping again..lol.not much longer it will be time to get up for work...now that's when I'll want to sleep in...
