Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Part14..Friends

Victoria Harbour, ON

Starting fresh this sunny morning...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Jan, love the photo..both you and Meeks...hope you do not find a lot of damage..lucky me, just had to lift garden furniture and set back into it's place.., gazebo still up and no damage...thank goodnes!!

Gita don't get me wrong, love getting presents it's just that I'm so blessed with friends/relatives that simply drop off goodies that it becomes overwhelming..for instance..went to Post Office this morning and there was a package from my girlfriend in Ireland..when she was visiting Romania she picked up a beautiful dishcloth and post card..sent them both to me...yet another thing to make my day..lol...

Liz, don't think we have 'doves' in our part of the country..I just purchased another bag of birdseed so will fill feeders this aft. - although grain is for the birds, the squirrels eat most of it...amazing that the dove doesn't leave when you pass by...must be very tame...now once they make nest, will they get the feeling of home and come back every year? Have you named the 'dove'???

Well, should get myself some lunch..did packaging this morning..

Shar...your knitted sleeves/ waist and neck bands/pattern are in the 'mail'..now just sent it regular post..she says because it goes to customs it should take about 2 weeks..that's an awfully long time isn't it??? Will be anxious to see what material you choose...will start that craft post incase others may want to see how they are made..so if (when) I get ambitious today, I'll start it up and do step by step for you...

As well got Sandy's Brach medicine shipped off and Connie's "Blue Heron" pattern off..was a good girl this morning..all commitments in place....still finishing the Victorian Santa (now was that for Araness?) and Christmas ball for Liz...it's been mega fun sharring craft items with you all...gives one a creativity surge...so, am on the job after all..lol...

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Good for you, Betty. It does feel good to fulfill promises/obligations, doesn't it?

No damage to speak of here. A few glads needed propped back up and a few small branches to pick up but no harm done.

Posting pie wedge steps picture, as promised. Note the lovely carpet remnants? (How could you not? lol) With three dogs and a man that I have not, as of yet, been able to teach to wipe his feet, these work for us. Cut up a few remnants, spray adhesive them down and just rip those that get icky up and spray and slap down a new piece, as needed. Takes all of two minutes. During the spring thaw, it gets done quite frequently, the rest of the year, not so much. Told y'all we were...ahem, somewhat laid back here on the farm, didn't I?

I used to be a total type A when it came to organization and keeping a pristine, perfectly ordered house but have been much happier (and calmer) since I decided to loosen up in that respect. Actually, this change came about from gardening. When we moved here, I ended up with tons of flowerbeds, too many to keep everything formal without going insane so now I subscribe to the wild look....grow where you will and if you pop up in the wrong place, you either get yanked or moved, as the mood strikes. It was the only way for me to actually enjoy the garden rather than look at it through eyes that only saw what needed to be done...in other words, it became labor of work instead of one of joy. That attitude gradually spread to other aspects of daily life. Basically, don't sweat the small stuff, I guess pretty much sums it up. I still have a comfort zone as to what’s important to me to keep “in order”. The kitchen area must be neat and clean and the bed must be made, the bath kept clean, other than that…. I’ll get to it when the weather turns, or not, lol. I used to vacuum the entire house two or sometimes three times a day…I’m telling you, it was bad. My kids want to know what happened to mommy, the drill sergeant, the one they grew up with, whom has now been replaced with this new one that sees a piece of straw, or a leaf on the floor and walks right past it, thinking “Oh, look, a piece of dirt on the floor…must remember to clean that up…..later”.

Back out to plant…ttyl…..this pic was taken standing on the third floor, at the top of the steps looking down into the living room……

Edited because spellcheck is not foolproof...

Well, now that I've wasted an entire day laying on the couch..it's time for bed...

Best..gransons Kyle and Noah are here for the night..we ordered pizza..I didn't even get up..they brought me drinks and slices..that's how tired I was today..
Worse...of course, must be wasting the day..
What did I learn..that I to can be lazy!!!

Let's hope tomorrow improves..wasted Friday (didn't even get all the lawn cut) all of Saturday..must get ambitious tomorrow for sure...

Liz, don't you just hate it when you've something planned and no one has supplies you need..throws you off..sure wish we lived close enough..I'd have shared mine!
Night all..sleep with the angels..

Chester County, PA(Zone 6b)

Well, Betty. I am putting a gold star on the calendar for you for yesterday. Sorry you were tired but glad that you "listened" to your body and actually did REST. I am amazed. Hope you are happier with your day today, whatever it may bring.

Cloudy here, supposedly all day, and then alleged rain tonight and tomorrow. I didn't do a whole lot yesterday myself. Of course that's not worth noting as I have lots of those days. Picked cukes and tomatoes and ate some strawberries right off of the plant. Fall peas are about five or six inches tall now and new broccoli is growing well, too. Noticed while I was planting yesterday that many of the beds are dry down as far as 10”…unusual for our clay soil and topography here. If we don’t get this solid rain they are promising I’ll have to deep water all but one of the beds. That one bed never needs water, we suspect it used to be a drain field, as in ten years it’s never dried out enough to need additional watering.

If it does rain today, my game plan is to finish a book I started Friday. It’s called “The Glass Castle” and is autobiographical. It’s a bit depressing and uplifting at the same time and I’m not sure if I’ll like it or not when I finish it but am enjoying the reading of it anyway, if that makes any sense. I also brought home a little computer work on the zip drive so will probably spend a couple of hours on that, too, before I send my timesheet into the main office for the week. Seed list to make up too, I haven't forgotten...today or tomorrow, depending on how the day goes.

Tacking on a photo I snapped of Merry on Friday. I call it "Happy Dog with Verbena"

Yesterday

Best? I have no more to plant…last few went in the ground. Oh and I saw at least five buds on my daturas. This is the first datura I’ve ever had so I am excited for that.

Worst? Probably the same as my best…no more to plant, lol. Oh well, be time for my “annual” mums soon.

Learned? Traveling knocks me out….it’s been a lazy weekend.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone, and Laura, hoping yours was both peaceful and “wonder”ful…ttyl….Jan

morning all,
now jan, what did you promise that cutie for that big smile... i like your staircase i laughed at your cleaning here's a toast for you i use to be a clean freak, now no its no kitchen dishes and clean bathroom thats it. anyone that comes to the door i warn them the cleaning lady is on strike (i wonder how long i can use that excuse)lol i sent a pic of the corn any input would be greatly appreciated for next year, there good but look how sad they look it was ruby queen and chubby checkers.
betty,
oh i wish you lived closer too, im going to try jcpenny later glad you got some rest omg the poor dog he takes me all day to clip and i have to do him in stages his back kills my wrist i have to hand strip him then i can clipper the rest, so i decided to do his head first omg the little fold in his ear braised the clipper blade blood everywhere thank god i remembered corn starch poor kenny was in a tizzy saying what happened finally it was under control then the rest of the afternoon he kept saying to asta stay away from mama.
so i decided back to the couch since it was a non productive day, then the light went on cause i cant sit still so i started to knit that bracelet laura posted for us actually the instructions were more intimidating its actually very easy i used beads i had laying around the first one isnt colors i like cause i was afraid of it now i can go get some nice beads and go to town i have a few rows mor to do i'll post a pic later on have to go walk the dogs before i get into another project have a great day liz

Grandchildren just left..going boating..Greg/Mel wanted me to go with them as they will travel north to my favorite cousin..but just not up to it..
I'll have to go back on the posts, was waiting for instructions from Laura regarding bracelets..must have missed it or did she d-mail it to you Liz?

Must get out and finish cutting the lawns..about 1 1/2 work left to do..in the meantime, I've got all my materials out to make myself a quilted sweater..these past few cold morning reminds me that I will shortly be needing something to keep the chill of...so I'm attempting a black/mauve color..

Now Shar is going to try one so I thought I'd made a new thread and as I'm going through it, post instructions so should anyone at DG wish to try it, they can follow instructions..so let's hope that works...will list it in General Discussion rather than sewing, as the majority of us frequent this area...

Jan you take wonderful photo's..you really should enter this one of Merry into Fall Fair photo competitions or something of the like..what a photo..my DIL dropped in this morning and her first comment was, 'OMG you've got your fall planters done and out..isn't it just a bit tooo early'..well, I'll get to enjoy them for a longer period of time..right?
Gardens are looking as though they have a touch of fall..should be out deadheading..that I can do an hour or so when I get home from work...always something to do in the garden..looking at that last load of topsoil..yuk..I have to work of putting some in gardens and make new sidegarden for hollyhocks...I need 2 of me..maybe 6 the way I've been behaving this weekend...lol...talk later..going to start the Quilted Sweater Thread so I can add instructions/photo as I proceed on the project today...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Araness...how's they eyelashes? Growing in o.k. Haven't seen you on the thread of late..sure hope all is well..miss you!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well girls I'm moving in slow motion..anyone have any extra energy to spare..lol..quiet sombre type of day..even outside it's as still as it can be..odd...

Was just taking a break and came down to play...
Hope you are all enjoying what the day is bringing...

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I enjoyed your conversation about the dove. I have many mourning doves that come to my feeders and they do seem very tame. I can be working close to the feeders and the other birds fly away but the doves stay on.Here we also call them "rain birds" because they seem to sing more when it is going to rain. Their call can be very sad-sounding (I think that's why they are called "mourning" doves.) However the call can be very soothing, too. I love to sit on my porch early in the morning and hear their calls.

I love hearing about all of your projects. I haven't tackled any big projects lately but I have some in mind that I'd like to get done before winter. Maybe all your projects will give me the motivation I need to get started. Judy

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, how peaceful it must be just to sit near the doves...they also must feel at peace near your home not to be frightened and fly away....there must be a full story of the dove and why it's called 'mourning' dove..that's something we'll have to research...

With winter just around the corner one needs to start shortly..I make many of my Christmas gifts and it's amazing when you consider how much time it takes to do some of the projects how quickly Christmas just arrives ...almost without warning..lol..

So nice to see you visit with us...

Pacifica, CA

ok betty, finally finished my test peice now i have to get some beads with more colors i prefer and jc penney did not have sweatshirts i finally settled for 1 at mervyns i can tell you its been quite the exausting weekend now im going to get in the pool sore throat and all...lol

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow Liz, that's gorgeous...you must have beading experience..how long did the project take you? Sore throat and pool...they don't mix do they? What color is your sweatshirt? It's been a quiet day..sewed for awhile, watching movie now and then it's bedtime..disappointed in myself this weekend..really didn't accomplish anything..and that's not acceptable to me...

Well, off I go..commercial is over..lol...

Victoria Harbour, ON

It's time to retire for the night..

Best...sewed for the afternoon..found it relaxing...several projects yet to finish...felt like a real fall day..love those kind..just came in from watering all the gardens..keep hoping for a day of rain but only drops in the past few weeks..will be interesting to see what kind of fall/winter we'll get after this drought...

Worse...Greg/Mel wanted me to go boating for the day..just wasn't up to it...

What did I learn...need to shed a few pounds..girlfriend Aline dropped in on her way to town this afternoon..through our conversation she said perhaps I should consider dropping a few...lol...she needs to drop a few more than I do..but her heart is in a good place..so..better get myself regimented and skinny...

So dear friends, sleep tight and dream with the angels watching over you!!!!

Pacifica, CA

betty,
i got a black sweatshirt i was thinking of the material below dont have a real plan yet ,the bracelett took about 3/4 of a day i shrunk mine to only 6 stiches and like laura said make sure you have pleanty of beads on the spool of wire i ran short and had to cut wire and add to it, so the next one will be quite long . and lol lol no pool and sore throat dont mix watch i'll feel it good tomorrow but i bet you feel rested

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all..love the bracelet...I would have thought it would have taken mega hours to complete..what is nice about it, is you could color coordinate to match a special outfit...well let's hope Laura, Liz that we are all on the mend today...I'll be looking forward to resting today at work...isn't that a corker!

Well off to feed the animals and make myself presentable...then the 100 mile drive....

Pacifica, CA

morning all,
laura, i hope your feeling better, thank you here's the next i started this at 5.00 and called it quits at 10.00 only a few rows left to compleate but boy oh boy do my hands feel sore from all that ...lol
betty, yes it could be a match a outfit for all, oh my i think if i did that dh would be sure that michaels wouldn not sell to me at all, you should go and see al the strings of beads they have and now i can see what laura is talking about how costly they can be depending on your bead choice
well i sure did it i can feel congestion building in the chest and the official cold is here
go check out what wuvie is up to with the beautiful blue glass and she has a row of tumblers going on boy is she talented its either on trash totreasure or on mosaic cant remember
everyone have a great day liz

Thumbnail by lizrainey
Victoria Harbour, ON

Will do..know Wuvie's quite an artist in many fields...SIL I ride in with is all congested, sneezing and coughing...sure hope I don't get it...hope you have something to take for it...

wow, beautiful..have a bead shop in the town next to me..they ship all over the world..is open by demand call..I'll have to drop in to see what they have...pattern please..couldn't find it..don't rush though...lol..have a list of 'to finish' of my own...but would love to do some for Christmas gifts..how much do you think that bracelet cost...

Pacifica, CA

hi betty,
the 28 gauge wire it comes on a spool it was 2.29 comes in silver , copper, brass the clasps were 3.99 there is probable enough for 4-5 the big beads range from 3.99-10.00 and they come on a string at michaels the seed beads ? i had a bunch of them so im not sure if your being on the modest side which i am right now i'd say maby 25.00.

that thera flu warming liquid is day time and nighttime so i started that last night but thats ok even if it turns into bronchitis, i have a back up of antibiotics oh listen to me i have a answer to everything i think i better go to work betty take some air bourne if you think she may have a cold you can get it at trader joes works pretty good oh and the problem with copper they dont make clasps that color so im out in the garage spray painting one to match lol have a great day all liz

Hi,
Liz - how wonderful to see your baby Dove! it is just so fluffy and puffy makes me want to snuggle.
Your bracelet turned out beautiful and will sure look forward to seeing your sweatshirt.

Tangi- your house is fantastic! I love the staircase. What a great shot of Merry.

Betty- So glad you got in a good rest.

I sure hope everyone is feeling better. This weather is crazy and running in out of the airconditioners doesn't help. So Sound like the weekend we all did the same...LOL lounging, reading, sewing was just the break we all needed. Finished all the stitching on the baby blanket. Will iron and peice it togther tonight. This weekend was perfect, rainy but just the thing to do-DH actually took a nap and slept in very late. So that was very good.

Remember Uncle? Well, I didn't tell you that he was facing other issues and well as it turned out he did have cancer afterall-just not where they were looking. After finding out again the prognosis, he decided not to fight any longer. He had just started Dialysis about a month ago-Had his last one on Saturday. Last night, right after dropping the kids at home we spent the better part of the night with Uncle and family. Said our goodbyes and he peacefully went home just after 1A.M.
We shall have wonderful memories of a very kind and gentle man. I was very glad to have known him. My Husband very glad to have had that visit.

Well, I hope every one has a good day-Still rainy here so best put my mind to work. See you later.
Judy

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

liz, hope you start to feel better

quick funny story (kinda)...awhile back I posted about having a dream where I had four boyfriends (not necessary I now know..lol)---one of my clients told me today he had a dream about me...I did not even let him finish, did not even want to know or have that mental picture...ughhh..

Victoria Harbour, ON

My heart goes out to your family Judy, know he as special to you all...thanks goodness you were able to spend time with him before his passing on...he is in good hands now..without pain...he has surely left you with many memories...

Glad you had an enjoyable weekend..sounds like you rested as well...Cannot believe the weather today..it's absolutely freezing..walked next door for soup and it feels like a late fall day..light drizzle, not enoughto do anything, but rain is rain....if you can imgine, I've got my heater on here in the office..

Looking forward to photos of the blankets...they'll be cherished heirlooms for sure...

Tropicanna...maybe the two of you had the same dream...don't you hate it when the male gendre wants to tell you how they feel...

My DH and I had a friend (actually worked with Roger)..after Roger died we remained friends..he was married OMG about 30 years ago..wife left him with 3 young children to raise..he did a wonderful job in raising them .. well, about 6 years ago he re-married, younger woman, no children and she left about 1 year ago..now he's lonely right, very quiet man, good looking- 59 yrs of age, financially secured..and for you motor cycle gals, just bought a brand new Harley - oyster white..lol..anyway over the past year my telephone rings during the night, of course I answer it as I'm worried it's bad news-illness or accident, but here it's this man..first few times he went on and on about feelings he has had for me even when Roger was alive...just what I want to hear in the middle of the night...anyway,he said he knew he could call me because I'd never tell him where to go and I'd listen..and listen I did...few weeks later, another after midnight call so I told him to call #1 before 10pm #2 only when he has not been drinking ...well Sat. night another call, was a little obscene...so this time I wasn't so pleasant ..hope he got the message..kept telling me he had to tell me about his feelings..I said "don't want to hear it" -he'd say 'but I'm a nice guy, you must know how I feel"... told me this about 5 times..I finally hung up...who needs this..certainly not me...guess no answering after 10pm calls..lol...men....

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

....uuuughhhh.....no, not the same dream! He was sure not one of MY four boyfriends....wincing and flinching here....yeah I put my hands over my ears and started singing when he started to tell me......noooooooo

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can sympathize with you for sure....yuk/yuk even from this old gal!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey Betty, you could've gone for a ride on your friend's Harley, though. Even I have a hard time resisting a Harley with the polished chrome..lol

Glenview, IL

Yikes, sounds creepy. Thinking you both handled the situations pretty good.

It's humid and drizzly here again. I am just tired, would rahter be curled up with a book-or lost in a movie...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Can't make money that way Judy! are you all caught up in your work..how do you occupy your free time? DG right.....I keep dozing off...won't be long I'll be in bed tonight...maybe it's this change in the weather...SIL keep running to washroom every five minues..between that and coughing...she should have stayed home..

Glenview, IL

Oh for sure, yow I hope no one else catches whatever SIL has.
Yep-I am reading anyway-LOL DG- I just noticed you have the quilt sweater forum up!! Fun, I am going to see if I can learn that knit and try one of the sweaters. Looks like great fun. Plus with the new way Daves got i have been just roaming around different forums-I like checking out people blogs-They are really cool!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL, Betty, gotta love in-laws. I'm sad that what would have been my sister in-law got caught being naughty (and can you beieve I was accused of being partially responsible...I swear I wasn't) and she and the BIL broke up.She was caught talking to someone on her cell phone by the monster outlaw...who was clearly being nosy otherwise how would she have heard some guy's voice on the phone. I really liked her, she was one of the few chicks I've gotten along really well with in personal life.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Morning All,

I'm just sitting here chillin' out and enjoying my semi-retirement. I can so get used to this!!! Had an interview yesterday that I think went very well. It was with a guy I have worked for before so none of the nerviousness. So far, that's it for the week as far as interviews go. I'm heading to the spa on Thursday to use a gift certificate my old mgr gave me when he left in April. Massage, facial, pedi & lunch! I cannot wait!! After that, I'm getting my hair & nails done then I will be ready for vacation on Sunday! It's a hard life!! LOL It will be back to reality once we get back!

Best: - guess???? (hint: not working!)
Worst: - can't think of anything!! :)
Learned: naps in the middle of the day are good! :)

chat later!
J

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jeannine..you just pamper yourself up girl..good for you...now how long before you find out about the job..might be a plus that the interviewer was someone you previously worked with..is the position something you'll enjoy doing? If not, don't jump at it..look around and enjoy yourself for awhile! Lucky you..vacation time..again, where do we head for? lol...think you should include us your extended family, don't you?

Thought of the day...

Something To Think About

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints; we spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; We've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; We've done larger things, but not better things; We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice; we write more, but learn less; we plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait; We have higher incomes, but lower morals; We have more food, but less appeasement; We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication; We've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to make a difference, or just turn the page...
