Fall Color!!

Victor:

What a great shot! It's so peaceful and tranquil looking. What time of day did you snap it?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Candyce - late AM.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No photo but want to report that Geranium Rozanne is still blooming like crazy. I would say it's the longest blooming perennial (and plant) in my garden. It has grown densely enough to pass my test for a decent ground cover as well. I'll be getting more.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Mine too Victor. Did yours seem to take longer to get with it this year? Mine kinda just sat there for a long time before starting to bloom, but it is making up for it now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No mine started in early June if I remember correctly. It was just named Perennial of the Year for 2008.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

here is my Jolly Bee geranium, which I think is similar to Rozanne.
I love it, it spreads and rambles so nicely, started blooming in June, and is still going strong.

Gorgeous! Love the setting, too!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice. Looks taller than Rozanne though.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

It does grow 2-3 feet tall, especially if it has something nearby to climb upward. This is its 3rd year, and it gets bigger each year. When I saw Rozanne last year, I wondered if it was better than Jolly Bee.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Looks taller to me also. I have Orion which reminds me of your Jolly Bee, debilu. I clip mine back in late summer though, it gets very tall and leggy.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Rozanne is supposed to stay under 18". Mine is just slightly above 12" so far.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yep, my Rozanne is a groundhugger, which I like about her. But I keep calling her Roxanne and then do the sing like sting thing!?!! She doesn't even have a red light.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Great shades of blue lights.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Now I gotta get me one. I'm sold!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They're a bit pricier than other hardy Geraniums. Maybe because they're patented.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Maybe. I just went to Lazy S's. $8.50 for a plant (great!), but $13.50 for shipping. (Boo!) Oh well, it was an impulsive move. I can wait 'till next year.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

What are the names of some older, short geraniums you would recommend? 18 inches or less.
Thanks,
Teresa

Victor:
I'd love to see a photo of Rozanne, if you get a shot.

Debilu:
Are those blooms blue?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There are different species of Geranium but some of the tried and true are 'Johnson's Blue', macrorrhizum types and sanguineum types. The last get gorgeous Fall color.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Candyce - they are a light purplish blue, not true blue

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor - we have one that was probably planted by the original owners in 1961 when the house was built. Any ideas on what it might be? It's magenta.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Teresa I have this one and love it! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57636/

Nice. Only five days until official arrival of Fall.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

You just had to say that didn't you?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I love Fall.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'll try to get a photo, Victor. Thanks for trying to help.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I love Fall too....it's what comes after it I don't like!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I love early fall, when it's still warm enough not to wear a coat. Late fall and winter can take a hike, as far as I am concerned!! If it wasn't for the fact that some seeds need the winter to germinate, I'd outlaw the cold.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

He he... we could try to outlaw the cold. I don't think mother nature would be compliant, though.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

This season is Pride. It goes before the Fall.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Fall is my fav season, it just doesn't last long enough. My mom always says why can't the colored leaves last through the winter then fall off, she says they would look so nice with the snow. I like all the seasons for different reasons but the winters could be a bit shorter in my opinion.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

Goodness, Dave - I think your pride went with that joke, lol!

I just got tuned back into this thread (dropped off somehow) and really enjoyed the pretty pics.

debilu - I really like your Jolly Bee geranium. Mine are magenta like Pirl's, but I don't know which magenta. My variety is a ground hugger after the rain parts the plant. I would like to mix in some of the blue to mingle with the magenta next summer.

Very nice Acadia shots, Pirl!

Celeste - don't you love the deserted lake????!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I actually got a mail order pink variety I planted in with the blue - but it didn't survive. I thought the blue and pink together would be pretty, I think it was called Pink Penny.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

My blueberry bush is really showing some color on the warm beautiful fall day!
