Fall Color!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Very nice!
How are your blueberry bushes, Louise?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Turning color, Candyce......and the swamp maple where the road crosses our brook is bright red! Two more days of summer officially..........:(

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Dee, my pride was gone a long time ago!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I love the absolute brilliance of a swamp maple in the fall!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Candyce, and the sugar maples, too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Swamp, or Red Maples, are usually the first to turn. Sugars are gorgeous.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Forgot the plant but color starting.

Great plants, Victor, especially the Viburnum.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pirl.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Have you heard of Cladadastris (hope I spelled that right) Lutea, Reesville Ridge. It's supposed to get quite tall and it gets wildly red leaves. Wild enough for even YOU. I just planted it today.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

And it made you think of Victor? How sweet.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, because of his love of fall colors.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No I haven't. I'll check it out. Cladadastris sounds like a disease!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

My spelling error! Cladrastis is the name. Here's DG's page on it: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=cladrastis+kentukea&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search&searcher[genus]=Cladrastis

This page and others view it as yellow, late fall but I know I've seen a photo of it as red. Maybe that was a result of spelling the name wrong!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. All the Fall photos I've seen show it as yellow. Pretty though. And a native.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love that Hydrangea Victor

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Lovely Fall berries shinning in the sunshine.

Nice. Berries are another sure sign!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Itea 'Saturnalia' starting. The leaves hang on a long time. It will still have color into December.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lots of yellow and brown here from no rain but the burning bush is just getting a bit of red.

Both are lovely, Victor. That second photo would make a lovely wallpaper border.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Pirl. The second one was ngam's. I'll take credit for it though!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You probably have it but were too shy to post it.

Great color, ngam!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Actually I don't like Burning Bush. Too boring for the other 50 weeks.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I thought it went on like that for a good 6 weeks. No?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I've never seen that.

Pretty, Victor.....isn't Mount Airy where Barney Fife lives??? How is your thumb tonight? Still typing with one hand?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Burning bush was pretty short lived for color here - week to 10 days before they drop.

I think this is a beech - not mine.

Ugh. Ever since your last post, Victor, I've got an old TV ad jingle stuck in my head. Does anyone remember this one? If you were like me, you heard it a trillion times as a kid!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I remember that!! Every now and then, through the years, the jingle would pop into my head! I'm so happy you found that link!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yes, Dee, I remember that, too. When it closed down, a few years ago, there was one comment by someone who used to frequent the place: It was a good place to come. Many people have fond memories of it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh yes Dee! I found that silly jingle in my head every time I did anything with the plant.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

LOL, Victor - I can picture you humming that darn song non-stop as you are planting the shrub, lol!

Pirl, in searching for a link to the song, I found a website where people reminisced about the place - several former employees as well as folks who honeymooned there, and even some who grew up in the area. Quite an interesting site!

We have friends that treated themselves to Mt. Airy Lodge one weekend every year and they still talk about it.

I have a few tree's changing in my yard...and leaving a mess on the lawn.
