Okay, I tried to insert this midway of my Shrubs & Trees thread but I guess to many had already stopped checking it. Anyway, what are your best plants for Fall color? Include flowers and, of course foliage plants - trees and shrubs. And photos of course! Here's one of my Crapes.

Fall Color!!
That is just stunning! I LOVE that colour! It really is a fall colour!
Wow, that's a gorgeous eyeful. Makes me wistful for September.
Who's Tress?
Shrub's wife I think.
that is gorgeous - I'd love to make room for one
I'm still working on the fall color thing! I have an inherited euonymous (??) - the bush whose foliage turns red and is supposed to be invasive and that we're not supposed to buy? :)
I have a few asters which don't seem to be taking off too well, some sedum Autumn Joy, a fothergilla which is small but beautiful in fall, and that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I might have one or two other things, but that's an area I need to work on. Oh, and I put in some montauk daisies last year, but they aren't doing too well.
Boy, my fall garden sounds pathetic, now that I write about it, lol! But with almost fifty oaks, everything is covered in leaves anyway, lol!
I do have a row of cornus alba Ivory Halo, which, though also small, are beautiful in winter, and my creeping sedum turns beautiful burgundy in winter, but I do have to get creative for fall color.
:)

P.S. By the way, beautiful shrub Victor - or would that be a tress? ;)
fall has the best colors. the only shrub I have is a burning bush. Actually also a callicarpa, and I just got an arctic fire red twig dogwood this spring. I do have a lot of fall perennials - so I'll see what they do. Oh yeah, does a hibiscus count as a shrub? It's big enough.
It seems like I'm always thinking about the next season.
Yes, deb, we are always thinking about the next season! I have Red Twig Dogwood. Love it in the Winter, especially when there's snow on the ground. Remember to prune it regularly when it matures. It's the new branches that have the bright red color. The older ones turn brown.
I'm a peeple that pays attention...... smtimes.
Thank you Al for enlightening me on the relationships on DG
Victor, are your pics current or from last fall? That JM is outstanding!
Wow, gorgeous pics. I kind of feel a twinge of sadness at the idea of the onset of Fall because it makes me start to think about is the long, long, long winter ahead. But it really is a glorious time of year, with the colors and all.
Very true. I have conflicted feelings about Fall too, though our Winter is nothing like yours! But I find Fall even more spectacular than Spring.
I know, it is my favorite time of year here, for sure. We don't have particularly harsh winters, temp wise...but as far as I am concerned, there is no Spring. There is just Winter, followed by a few looooong months of mud and gray brown.
Can't wait till fall, we have a decid. shrub that turns a gorgeous red, I don't know what it is. I will have to investigate it one of these days.
Sorry to be ignant but what's a JM? I can mizpell wit the best ov 'em.
Yes, deb, we are always thinking about the next season!
How true is that. I've already been taking mental notes on what worked and what didn't. I've ordered seed for what did. I hear Blueberry bushes have wonderful fall color. Is that true? I would love to give them a try. For those of you that do grow them, what would be a sufficient number to supply my yogurt in the morning?
Jen - sorry - Japanese Maples. Anita, yes Blueberries are spectacular. I'll dig up a photo to post. They're great plants all around. Nice blooms, Fall color and of course, the berries! Serviceberries are similar but grow bigger. Great tasting berries on them as well.
Anita, I'm planning on getting blueberries next spring. I have no idea how good their plants are (found them recommended on another site), but this place has a great selection of varieties for $7 a plant. they recommend ordering as soon as possible after January 1.

I've been thinking about blueberries for the berries, and fall color too? nice
Victor, I have a crape for a couple of years now. It was badly damaged when a tree came down, but it has recovered. How long until they take off?
Mine has been slow even cosidering the damage.
Mine took about three years to start showing their stuff.
I think the crape is my fav that you posted, I need more yard.....
Victor - I spotted a couple of red leaves on my blueberry this morning. I can't tell whether it is just stressed or heralding in the fall! Your crape is very pretty!
What great color. I will have to keep shooting more in the fall. It won't be long now I guess.
Victor, those are all just beautiful! Are they in bloom like that now, all at once??
Thanks. No, all of these are from late Oct through mid-November from the last two years.
Victor:
The geranium is about the only thing in our garden that will give a beautiful show in the fall. We do have several trees in the neighborhood that will give glorious colors, though.
There was the slightest breeze this afternoon while I watched several leaves tumbling down to the ground from the crab-apple tree. The sight made me shiver, although the temps were in the low 80s.
I have that one too ngam. It's great.
