Fall 2007 RU

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Palisades. Yes, it's like Matterhorn Nursery near me. Beyond ludicrous prices, but nice to walk around.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I am not sure I am in charge of anything!!!! lol.... can anyone be in charge when we have Dave & Victor involved???? nobody can be in charge of them....LOL... ok just kidding!!!

Are we ready to set up time and things like that??? if so I will update the first post with all the information we need!!!!

So far this is what we are going to do:

1- will meet at Loggees (and try not to spent our life savings!!!! or kids college funds!!!)
2- we can choose a place to eat
3- meet at a park to hang out...

ok... please correct me if I am wrong.... !!!!

how about if each of us grab food and them hang out at the park as we eat??? I am not sure about you guys but for me the wonderful thing will be meeting you guys, seeing the fancy plants and then food... it comes in that order so I am open to anything !!!!

too bad we can not try some of our own tomatoes... they will be done right??? I don't remember when my tomatoes ended last year!!!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I like the trading plants part.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hey - I might actually have some plants to trade! Oh, wait . . . . Oct. 6th - is that too late for planting perennials?

Mid-Cape, MA(Zone 7a)

This is pretty exciting! I just map-quested Logee's and it's only two and 1/2 hours from Yarmouthport. . . that's doable (says she, who has been know to go the wrong way exiting from a parking lot.) But what fun; I'd get to see Connecticut!
Put me down. And I'd like to know more about how people bring plants. . . and/or seeds, to trade.
From what I am learning, Oct. 6 isn't too late to plant perennials for many of the NE zones. . . but I am a newbie.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

The more, the merrier! I can't wait to meet you. It will be a 2 1/2 hour drive for me, as well. Aren't we the brave bunch!!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Here's the incredible fern I got at White Flower Farms...

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

have we decided on a time yet?

Allison

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I haven't heard of a time, but I hope that whatever time it is, that I'll have time to get there!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

What time does Logee's open?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I went to that well swept herb farm today... what a nice place... very nice people ... i would love to move in

:)

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

From their website: http://www.logees.com

Retail Store/Greenhouse Hours:

Monday to Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm EST*
Sunday: 11 am to 5 pm EST*
(Nov and Feb we close at 4:30 pm)
(Dec and Jan we close at 4:00 pm)

Closed: New Year's Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas

* On Saturday and Sunday the retail store and greenhouses are open, but we are unable to take phone calls.

Note:
It takes at least an hour to wander through their greenhouses, and that's not counting the time it takes to ooh and aah over the plants or decide what to buy!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

LOL! And hour is way conservative for some of us!

Amsterdam, NY(Zone 5a)

I was so excited and making plans to attend, until my husband pointed out that I will be in Maine on the 6th. Back to looking at the catalog. Sigh....

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Is the date of October 6th locked in?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

I believe so... Candyce!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I just wanted to make sure. If it hadn't been 'set', then perhaps dbsmith2 could have joined us.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Maybe we can have an "I'm so bored I want to scream" RU in the middle of winter?

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

That's a great idea but think we need to find a place to get together. Can do parks in the middle of winter.. Will need to find a place to hang out and stuff..

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

You know - my place is about half way between upper NY State and lots of other areas. . . . not so central for folks from NH or Maine - but I would be willing to have a winter get-together at my place, unless we can find a place more convenient for everyone

Michaela

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Michaela:

It's closer to me than you think. I believe that Springfield is only about two hours away. That is, if I remember correctly from the times I used to drive up and down I-91.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, 2 hours might be do-able. I also have a guest bedroom for those coming long distance - and we can set up a queen-size air mattress in the Canada room (that's where the bar is)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

We should have it during Winter break from school. I'll bring the marshmellos for the Hot Chocolate!

Amsterdam, NY(Zone 5a)

Springfield is not far from here. I was just whining about Logee's because I got the fall catalog and marked about 25 plants as must haves. Of course, my husband keeps calling September "The Awakening", when I realize that my expanded collection will not fit back into the greenhouse. I say it's time to expand the greenhouse!

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

I'm still not sure if I can make it yet.. Although I know I will not be leaving the country now in Oct.. But I found out I'm pregnant and not sure DH would let me go in my new condition.. I should only be 4months then but DH hasn't even let me out of the house by myself since he found out.. LOL..

So I will probably know later on in Sept.. Of course, if I'm still constantly sick, I may have to skip it.. Don't want to come and ruin the RU by puking constantly.. LOL..

But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.. :)

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Congratulations!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, congrats on the new gardener to be! First?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Congratulations!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oohh Congratulations!!!!!! hope you can come!!!!

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

What happy news!!!
You'll probably be all done with that nasty morning sickness by RU time.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Congratulations and best wishes for you and your DH! Hope the morning sickness goes away quickly for you.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

And for your husband.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

lol. i was sick up thru 7 months with #1. highly unusual; most women feel great in the middle trimester. Can we bring baby plants instead of baby clothes? How about a Round Up / baby shower?

Oct 6 in on my calendar - MY DH thinks it's important for me to have my own interests. (I'm making him sound awful - he is really very wonderful.)

Michaela, how about a wintersowing seed-trading party in Dec. or Jan? We could all bring our boxes of unused seeds and auction them off.

Some of my favorite plants come from Round-Ups. Stuff I would never think of growing hops in my car and likes it here.

xxx, Carrie

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Carrie - for a minute I thought you said you were growing hops in your car! Gotta get new glasses.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

i had to read the hops twice also.... just went.... what .... she grows hops in the car?????

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Thank you everyone.. I was just thinking that how unfair that I finally get to stop travelling for work but now too sick to garden.. Grrr.. Hopefully y'all right about the morning sickness or rather all day sickness.. I really want to go to the RU but I've been feeling so crappy that I haven't been out much.. But if it does pass, looks like I definitely will be able to make it..

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

well, I have no experience.... any of my kids " 2 dogs and turtles" are all adopted!!!!! but I can understand how you feel.... every time I get a migrane I get so sick... so much nausea!!!!! anyway I hope you can come!!!!

do you know if is a boy or girl yet????

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Kassia, I'm glad your turtles are adopted! ;^)

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

lol!!!!! yeah... I actually saw them coming out of their shell.... it's an open adoption! well, their biological mother just left the eggs there!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you plan to break the adoption news to them at some point, Kass??
