But a park might still be a good idea. I'll see what I can find out.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi Everyone

Just got back from camping - special note to folks from Upper New York state.

I live half way between your home and Logees. I have a lovely guest bedroom on the third floor. If you are interested, give me a d-mail.

Pretty cool Allison! I used to live very close to there in High Bridge. My mom just sold our old, stone house in 2002. I miss it. It's a beautiful area. Wish I could go that weekend. It would be nice.

I love some of the old stone houses in that area..... well just love the area in general.... the only reason i haven't moved out that way is the traffic during the week... takes too long to get anywhere

Here is a link to a resident's site about Danielson. 2/3 of the way down it mentions a park with a gazebo in the middle of town, but says it is pretty small, so probably would not work for a group our size--but I thought you might like to look at the pictures.

After more research:
Davis Park and Lion's Park in Danielson appear to be rather small.
Old Furnace State Park south of town and Killingly Pond State Park in nearby East Killingly (near Dayville) appear to be picnic sized with ponds, but I haven't found pictures or details yet. This site

has maps. Click on the L next to the name for the best map.

I was there on Friday for by bi-annual visit and mentioned your plans. Please be sure to call Amy Miller (860/774-8038) to let her know the details of your visit. She can arrange a tour if you'd like, but even if you don't want an "official" tour, she'd still like to know how many will be coming through so she can staff up.

Have fun!

North Augusta, ON

And please be sure to take oodles of pictures......

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

But even we don't know how many are coming?!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Just give them a head's up with the number you have now and you can always call back and update them next month. They do have Guest Speakers and Demos from time-to-time, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to interfere with that - or not be able to see something because it was Reserved for something/someone else.

We didn't get to see the herbs this time because they had bad damage to one of the greenhouses and had to close it because of all the broken glass. There was still plenty to see and smell, though! They had most of their big brugs outside - in full bloom. And you will be totally in awe of their humongous banana plants. JRush and I were totally awe-struck!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hi Sequee!! Harper, here. Do you think you might make it to Logee's on October 6th? I have room in my car for one more. I'd love to see you.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh I want to go now... I love Brugs.... and look at my yellow gigantic one.... oh I love wow it smells!!!

Speaking of smelling, my Sweet Autumn Clematis is starting to open and It has no scent. Please tell me it will start to smell good. It's an enormous vine. I might cry if it doesn't smell good.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

GORGEOUS, Kassia!!!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Don, Great info! Thanks.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, Kassia - they are lovely!!! I finally had blooms this year for the first time ever. What an adventure! All at one time i had 2 brugs in bloom, 3 blossoms on my passi, my water lily is blooming, and one of my orchids is going crazy! What a year!!!

I can't believe no one asked me what i bought at Logee's - Hrmph!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

What did you buy at Logee's?

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

well, I was thinking you just went there and was way stronger them me and just looked and looked and was waiting to buy something when WE all go there!!!!!

what did you get!!????

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Yes Sequee, what did you get?? You never did respond after you returned from your trip there...

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I was actually a very good girl. I only got 2 plants - a Costus Woodsonii (Spiral Ginger) and a new Orchid: Cattleya-Brasso "Hawaii". (Truth be told, I didn't have much room in my car since JRush sent me home loaded down, as usual!)

I've been a little overwhelmed around here. The garden went crazy in my absence (one entire day!) and I picked 170 tomatoes over the weekend. And spent LOTS of time visiting neighbors...and cooking! and EATING!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Sequee, Were you in Guilford with JR?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I thought he was shot.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Sure was. We had dinner at Hanami (Hanani?). It was ok, but we're going to try the one up the street next time. I visit her a couple of times a year and we do Logee's, Things Made Wonderful, and whatever else we have time for.

Have you ever been to Quackin' Grass or Variegated Foliage Farms?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Never been to either. Where are they? Things made wonderful too, where's that? How is Julie doing. I haven't crossed paths with her in a long time.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Sequee, nice orchid.. Surprised that you did so little damage.. :)

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Things Made Wonderful is a terrific "little" Antigque/second hand/Country/Crafts Boutique on 395, heading towards Providence. It used to be a little place and when we got to the old site we were so sad that it was gone! We turned around and headed back "home" and discovered that they'd moved into a different building - easily 3x the size.

Quackin' Grass is pretty close to Logee's and specializes in Hostas and unigue Grasses. They're a bit pricey for my tastes, but definitely a must see collection. (Logee's has gone up quite a bit over the years, too, but same scnario. If you want something new and unique, you pay for it!

Yes, I was surprisingly good, but like I said Julie had me loaded up. She sent me home with a monster tropical Hibiscus that wouldn't even fit in the back of my small SUV! It ended up taking up the entire front seat area, including more than a little of the driver space. Then thee was the stevia, geranium, and 3 pots of 2 yar old Rose of Sharon. Like I really need all that stuff. Do not EVER offer me plants or seeds. I do not know how to say NO! Sheesh! It's a real sickness!

Here's the reason I opted for another Orchid instead of the Shooting Stars Hoya...

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

That's a beautiful orchid. I would have opted for that as well! Too bad all of my indoor cats just LOVE to eat plants!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I am very lucky, my cats only bother the plants if they are in the way, so I place them in the window sills on each corner and leave the center for the fat cats to plop themselves town. The only problem I have with cats and plants is that Hidey Ho likes to make doodie in the pots. I finally gave her her very own pot of soil and she's been fine ever since.

The orchid has 4 blooms on it now, but I couldn't take the time to photograph it this morning. (I'm ALWAYS running late in the mornings, and since today is Dog Therapy Day at the Nursing Home, I had to bring the doggies in. And it's rainy and muddy outside...and I'm wearing a white suit...need I say more?)

Westbrook, CT(Zone 6a)

Variegated Foliage Nursery is at 245 Westford Rd, Eastford, CT, about 12 miles from Logee's. I was thinking of visiting there after Logee's.

www.variegatedfoliage.com/

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Sequee, did try munching on the stevia yet?? I love to chomp on it.. LOL.. At least it's healthier than straight up candy.. :) And I think we're all like.. If we were addicted to gardening and collecting as many plants as possible, don't think we'd be hanging out on DG here. LOL..

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Yruly - I might actually get something done on my day off!!!

Yes, it munched real good! Ummm!

I forgot - she also gave me a bunch of chives and a Mama alking Onion. Mine didn't survive last winter for some readon. ill try again...

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Someone on another forum suggested munching a stevia leaf and a chocolate mint leaf together.

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

interesting I'll have to locate a choco mint then... :)

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Do we have a list yet of the possible attendees? And, who is in charge of this RU? Kassia? Is it you?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I think Kassia has updated her first post to reflect the anticipated attendees.

I went to White Flower Farms yesterday for the first time. OMG! That place goes on forever. They have a Begonia Greenhouse that just took my breath away...and at $135 a pop - it stayed away~! I cannot imagine paying that kind of money for a plant. If it died I'd have a coronary!!!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I just got a catalog from Logee's in the mail - they are free - just request one on their website. I' m picking out plants already.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

WFF is very expensive. Went there once - didn't buy anything.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

But what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon! (I did buy an incredible little fern - like nothing I've ever seen before. I'll try to remember to take a photo this weekend.)

I always get c'fused with the "Stony's" - are you on Long Island or off the Palisades?
