Fresh Pot of Coffee!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Kas - I'll give you a few points for obscurity.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

no fair! I wasn't here last winter. besides, everyone knows the points don't matter

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

here's the answer basically

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

John Cleese would say "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition"?
Minister of silly walks?

Kassia, don't worry. Noone else can follow Al either.

Well, I just came here after watching my 2 favorite sitcoms. It was nice to know that Pixie & Gram (& Anita for 1/2 the time) were also watching 2 & 1/2 men and...old Christine. However they won't respond to me because they are now watching CSI Miami.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

nope, watching Whose Line is it anyway. I like funny. it's a pretty dumb show but it makes me laugh out loud some times and not many things make me do that these days.

got my granddaughter (age 17) a roll of t.p. with Monty Python stuff on it for a stocking stuffer...dead parrot, all the classics.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Gram, Your the best! I still watch some Whose Line Is It Anyway. Used to watch a ton. Incredible talent.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone... thanks for the points... I tryed to come up with somehting funny... but all I could think about was that...

oh well... I just came back from school a couple of hours ago... tons of things to do... even some container gardening... anyway... now I am watching Cold Case on TNT- completly forgot about CSI Miami... oh well...

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Monty Python is a hoot! I love The Holy Grail..run away..what's your favorite color..bring out yer dead...

I was actually watching two episodes of Brothers & Sisters last night - the other shows were taping. I'm also in the midst of cleaning out the living room so that I can rip up the carpet this weekend. I'm doing some renovations with new flooring/painting etc. This weekend I have a landscaper taking out the stoop [keeper of the snakes] and filling any cracks behind it and giving me a bigger and better one! I'm also having a path put in to the steps on the side of the house and two raised beds as well. I'm very excited about the changes.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

(i'm out of this conversation because I don't watch any tv. Haven't in years)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I give you alot of credit for that Nancy. Do you prefer to read? Who are your favorite authors?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

The TV series from the late 60's was great, you can still rent them. They have held up well as they are not really topical - more silly. It does remind me that I haven't watched A FIsh Called Wanda lately - funny movie.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Anita, here's my life. I do watch about 15 minutes of news in the AM over coffee, then get in a little laundry or dusting or whatever I can do in a short time before gettting ready for work. On occassion, like this morning, I can squeeze in about 15 minutes of Dave's Garden before work. I work 9-5. Then I go directly from work to a nursing home and spend time there, about an hour and a half, everyday. I get home between 7 and 7:30, unless I have an errand to run. Time to grab something quick to eat and visit with my husband for awhile. Then it's up to the computer for an hour or two, or a little more if I have a project going on. But by 10:30 or 11:00 my eyes keep trying to close. I go to bed and try to read or do a puzzle before falling asleep, but I never seem to last more than 5 minutes or so.

We've only had a computer for the last two years. Before that I used to read quite a bit. I never read at all anymore. Too much else to do. I haven't been bored in ages.

I don't have a clue about any of the tv shows you guys are discussing. I'll catch up with you later.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a wonderfully filled life Nancy

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Not much television here either, probably because I fall asleep too early. I have to admit though - I recently started watching Scrubs - the reruns that are on early! I had seen the advertisements once in a while but honestly I just couldn't grasp the humor - but now I'm hooked!

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

I only have rabbit ears on my TV so I get one channel and then the sound fades in and out. I do try to watch Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, Six Degrees and I can't miss Boston Legal. On Wednesday nights I go to my neighbor's house and we watch Lost on his big-has-a-million-stations, TV. He serves me peach flavored chablis and either home made chocolate cake or fancy cookies that I keep stocked at his house. We always say that we "don't get it" - but he loves the company and I keep hoping that some day it will all make sense. I could (and have) lived without TV but please, please don't take away my radio. My very, very favorite Saturday night is listening to Prarie Home Companion on NPR.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I never watch TV without doing something else. It used to be reading, or needlework. now most of the time it's the laptop. I'm going to try to be more well-rounded this winter and get back my needlework. I have quilts to finish and x-stitch projects. and I used to be an avid reader. actually just finished a tiny book, 'A Hummingbird in my House: the Story of Squeak', which I would recommend to anyone who loves hummers. also just ordered 16 gardening books in various categories (xmas present from DH who asked me to pick some out) for winter reading.

also, I know we kid here a LOT, but I've had several reminders lately how good it is to have friends, so a big (((((HUG))))) to all you guys!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Someday maybe a real hug from me, gram.

Anita, yes, I really like my life. I feel fulfilled, and busy is good. I long for boredom and free-time, but I rarely get it and when I do, I can't take it for long. I feel like I'm wasting away precious moments. Plus, everythng is perspective. I think I'm busy until I hear how some other people live. Then I feel like a slug.

Yankee Cat, years ago we visited relatives in MN and went to the live Keillor show. It was great!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

nancy, maybe not til spring, but we really should see who we can round up from the Buffalo area and try to meet at the Botantical garden. I know there are at least a few others around.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

HI everyone... well, Nancy I give you credit for not watching TV - somedays I feel is like a curse so I never only watch TV... like Gram I have the laptop on or something else going... but I am hooked on Law & Order, (all of them) Cold Case, Without a Trace, Monk, and 4400 ... all have re-runs so I don't have to really stress about it...

I love to read... but school keeps me busy latelly but I still manage to read at least 2 books at the same time... never just one... PLUS all the gardening Magazines... so I have at least one magazine in each room just in case I have a few minutes to read (like in the bathroom?!!!!) gardening has taken over my head... I have started a note book for my dream garden... I am cutting pictures of all the plants I want, and this is my current project...

DG has become part of my day... so I check even at work for a few minutes... like now I am still here after 5... since I am waiting for my newphew that is working extra tonight ...

Gram, I really hope one of this days we could all meet somewhere and have tea/coffee and just see each other...

I would love to meet all of you... and put the face with a name/nickname and typing together... I have really good friends in Liberty NY that I visit every year and maybe is not so far from you guys... I am intruding in the group but I am making you guys part of my life...

see you!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

no intrusion, Kass. I'd love to meet you face-to-face. Liberty to Buffalo is about 300 mi according to yahoo. I think you'd need more than a cup of tea LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Tell me about it - you drive around my block all day and haven't stopped yet.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm using up the extra miles on my lease

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

All y'all are talking about TV shows and I had to go disconnect my cable this summer. Sheesh! Me thinks I've suffered long enough! Perhaps I'll bug DH to subscribe again... Of course, that would mean less time on DG... that would mean even MORE suffering! LOL

Thanks for the amusement, folks.
Harper, aka, Sofie

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Went 11 years with out cable, why??? Cause I got up one night around midnight and my 2 girls were in the livingroom watching the T.V. show I had forbid them to watch. (M.T.V. )They had the volume down real low and were scooted up to the TV and giggling. There was Madonna with her cone covered boobies and gold tassels on the ends that she was making go round in circles!!!! That was not the role model I wanted for my girls so I disconnected the next morning as soon as the cable company was open. Last Sept. I had it re-connected as the youngest child was a senior, turning 18 and likes the compt. better than TV. DH was going for surgery #3 and I was tired of renting him movies so I gave in. He's looking at a possible joint replacement the first of the year...so I guess it's staying. When he's recovered, a trip to Niagra Falls for me!! (He can come too) I've only been there once for a brief visit, (15-20 minutes) and I promised myself a trip back when he was done w/all of this. Anybody close by??? We could meet for coffee & cake or something. Any suggestions for the best time of year to go??

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

pix, i'm about 20 min from the falls. it's practically in my back yard. any time that's nice in ME is nice here. you want to stay away from the touristy times if you can. hey, maybe you can come here for coffee and visit your 'Purple Pawprint'. and we could get Nancy and see who else is close enough. Whaddya think, Nance? maybe we'll order pixie a chicken wing?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Chicken wing? I like chiken wings...usually. LOL

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Buffalo wings

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

real buffalo wings....from buffalo.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

from real buffaloes?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Yep. that's why they can't fly, you know. we've eaten the wings

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

See, that's what I'm sayin, Al. In Buffalo, we don't call them Buffalo wings. We don't have to. I don't think I know a single person around here who says 'buffalo wings'. Even the pizzerias don't. Just 'wings' or 'chicken wings'. Ok, that's enough talk of chicken wings. I'm really wanting some now. (Gram, remember when they used to be ten cents each?) And speaking of pizza, we have the best pizza on the planet here in Buffalo, right gram?

Pixie, Niagara Falls is right here, just outside of Buffalo like Gram was saying. We could easily meet you, and show you around. It's awfully cold in the winter, though it is so pretty when the mist in the air freezes and everything gets a coating of ice. (Remember that gram is not a fan of snow) Kassia, the more the merrier. Niagara Falls is without a doubt an attraction that everyone needs to see at least once. Having seen it many times, I'm still impressed each time I see it. Especially the Canadian side. You can practically touch it, you're so close. You should consider coming too.

Anyway, don't anybody even think about visiting the Western New York area without meeting us. I'd love to talk to you all in person. Agree, gram?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

So we have a Buffalo WIld Wings here that you would just call Wild Wings, but we have a Wild Wings already and it's about birds and not food.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks for the invitation... I would love to go to Buffalo ... I don't eat buffalo wings ... no spicy food for me... I know tons of people ask me how come I don't eat spicy food... I had a horrible experience when I was a kid and never again tryed...
I would love to go to Niagara Falls.... I have not been there yet... it's on my plans for next year!

Well, I guess I will need a lot of coffee for the next 300 miles... I would go and see you guys as soon as I can,,, I can try in February... It will be nice to take a few days off before I take the NCLEX ... but for sure by spring I am going to visit my friends again - I usually go Patriots day - we have the day off for the Boston Marathon so I usually go that time...

If any of you come around here you guys have to let me know...

Pix, how far are you from Kittery? I am dying to go there again and go to Ongonquit... I went there once and it doesn;t matter to me if is winter... is such a nice place...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Kassia ~ I'm 2 hours from Kittery and about 8.5 - 9 hrs. from Niagra.
Did you go to the Kittery Trading Post? I like Ongonquit too, have you ever visited York's Wild Animal Kindom? I love it there! Take my Grandaughter there to see the tigers and monkeys, bears ect... I need to make a trip next summer with the yougest grandaughter as she is 2 and hasn't been there yet. Need to keep SIL, DH, and Youngest son off the go carts....last time they got kicked off the track for excessive roughness!! These are men who spend the majority of the year behind the wheel of a 4wheel drive truck. Then you give them this little car on a track and they act like you just stuck them in the demolition derby!!

I am looking towards May for my trip to N.Y. depending on when DH gets operated on and how long it takes to be back on his feet w/out crutches. Operation should happen in Jan. or Feb. He then spends at least 8 weeks in a cast, and then usually another 6 - 8 weeks of P.T. If it looks like we will run into tourist season, we may wait until Sept. He'd really like to go in the spring so he could fish ....been a dream of his to catch a salmon or trout from one of the great lakes. I love to fish so there's no complaining from me!!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I love Ogonquit too. We vacationed the last 3 summers there and made a couple of visits to York's Wild Animal Kingdom.(I also had 1 of the best vacations of my life in Acadia.)

Yankee, I haven't seen rabbit ears in a long time. I bet if you formed a club of people with regular internet access AND rabbit ears TV it would be an interesting group!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dave ~ I speak of Acadia with the same love Buffalo people speak of Niagra with. It is with out a doubt one of the most beautiful place's in Maine. The view on top of the mountain is breath taking! Did you go to Thunder Hole?? Everyone goes there on a nice calm day....WRONG! If you want to really see Thunder Hole in action you need to go on a miserable day....then plan on getting wet!!! Sandy Beach is where I go to free climb on the cliffs that surround it. There's a cave you can climb down to and hide in but you need to leave before high tide or you'll be stuck there for the next 12 hours. I love that place!!!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Pix, I have not been to York's Wild ANimal Kingdon... I will make sure I take my 3 nephews and my mom next summer... maybe we can get together there...

May should be great for me to meet you guys in NY ... let's plan??!! ... I will put that on my calendar...

Pix, Kittery Trading Post was one of the places we stopped but could stay long... it's on my list ... next time I go with my 2 good friends Kelley and Faith (maybe my mom will be here for that) I will let you know... maybe you could also come and get to meet !!!! it would be fun! I have never been to Acadia... should one go there on winter??? I am clueless regarding Maine!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No not in the winter, they actually close most of the roads in the winter. You are better off in the spring, summer or fall.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

May would be good Pix, or early June. as long as you catch it before the kids get out of school (and not Memorial day wkend, of course), if DH is up to it by then. I told my DH about it and he says you guys come to our house for sauce (by that he means an Italian dinner). when he makes meatballs people come from miles around to eat, so you better believe they're good. so dinner at our house. Kass, Nancy, anybody else in the neighborhood? we'll make a big pot.

I saw Thunder Hole on a miserable day. you're right! that's the time to go. I'll never forget it.

Kass you can get chicken wings mild. they're still good. I can't eat the real hot ones any more. you haven't eaten pizza until you've eaten it in Buffalo. bad pizza in Buffalo is better than good pizza most everywhere else.

we don't fish so I know nothing about 'good spots'. Nancy, know any fisher'people'?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Pixie, Grampapa, Kassia and all in the Northeast Gardening forum,

You've seen me around here and there. My name is Harper and I live in NY where there seems to be few gardeners. I'd love to invite myself to a meeting with local (northeast) DG gardeners! When's the next RoundUp?

Harper
