Fresh Pot of Coffee!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Well it's time for some fresh coffee as the growing season is just about at an end for most of us here in the NE. This will give us two outlets to chat in general, on or off topics. Here and in Musings. I so look forward to seeing what everyone has to say and now that I am not tied up in the yard, it's the first thing I do in the morning with my coffee and the last thing I do before I go to bed!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Come on Yankee get on the trolley will ya', there's a whole new world in right clicking with your mouse:)
Anita - you're certainly right about being out of growing things - I rode that pony for all it was worth - now it's back to talking about what I know best - nothing!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Oooooh...I can do that...talk about nothing. Hey, Al, how's the weather in Menasha? Anita, what did you have with your coffee this morning?

edit to add: how'd you do at the dentist yesterday?

Gram - we had a freeze a couple weeks ago, but last night was our first frost - it was everywhere.
I did have a root canal a few years ago too, it didn't hurt - but was kind of creepy when he filed the inside of the tooth clean ;(

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I can't believe it's going to be Halloween!!!! That means that next week is November and this weekend is time to set the clocks back!!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Yeah but an hour later you have to do it again.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm one lucky girl - turns out that the temporary was the problem. He reset it. I still have some minor annoyance with it, but nothing like last week. He said that the root looked fine. Yippeee!!!!

I can't eat breakfast too early, so I usually have just coffee and then eat something when I get to the office. If I am going to a client, then I usually eat something in the car. Breakfasts on the go might include; granola bar, South Beach diet bar or mini quiche cups. Breakfast in the office is usually yogurt. Breakfast on the weekend might consist of bagel/cream cheese/lox, eggs in some form or sometimes I lose track of time and wind up having an early lunch instead.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Al, You are only supposed to turn them back 1 time! Did you know it's 2006??

Seriously, they are shrinking daylight standard time next year or soon after. We won't turn back clock until November. (Maybe switch earlier in Spring too). I'm all for it. I think it's to save energy but I think it will conserve prozac too. All that dark is depressing.
We tried staying entirely on daylight savings time in the 1970s, but stopped when they realized kids were standing in the dark for the school bus. Hopefully this will be a good compromise.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dave - I'm still in the 70's man and it is right on! I finish up my tennis match, hop in my TR-7, pop in the Supertramp 8 track, speed on home to turn on Logan's Run and pop open a Right Time. (your results may vary)

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Al, Very authentic but, you weren't old enough to drive in the 70s let alone drink (legally)!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

You got me there, although I'm sure I had a beer in the 70's and did drive some before I had a license.

You know, I'm not surprised.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Most of the 70's is a blur. The 60's, on the other hand..........whoops, drifted off there for a min. reminiscing. let's just say I had my share of fun.

What are ya trying to say Al???? I for one am glad when daylight savings kicks in as I can't get up when it's dark. Of course, coming home in the dark makes me feel like I need to go straight to bed!
Hmmm, the 70's...no beer for me...but some great TV shows/movies that I liked - Starsky and Hutch, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, great morning cartoons, chiller Theatre, Star Wars, Welcome Back Kotter and alot of others. Here is a website for those that want to reminisce [spelling??] http://www.robinsweb.com/70s/70's_tv_movies.html

This fall time change is kind of a wash for me, it seems like the daylight you get back in the morning is gone in a couple weeks, They really need to work on making the days longer - I'll get the Justice League on it.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Tell Wonder Woman I said hi!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

By the way, I thought I would post a picture of my nemesis... I am hoping his trip to the lake will have him too lost too find his way back!!! That's my brother holding it and Samantha [eldest niece] touching it.

Hi--with the chat about Daylight Savings Time, I thought I'd post a link to a very interesting article about it.

I agree: let's just get those days longer ALL the time.

Anita,
You aren't Wonder Woman? Cute snake.

Actually, I'm glad to have been coming of age in the late sixties. It was a very exciting and hopefull time. Granted, immature in a lot of ways but so was I.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, do you get a wash in the spring when the time changes again? maybe we should get the Justice League on that ;-~

Anita, the little guy is kinda cute, now that you got him out of your orchid and out of your house.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

yeah - kinda cute - huh. I'm a wonder all right!

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Anita,
Just because Steve Irwin and his big stick have gone to the great croc pit in the sky, this fellow probably thought he could get away with more now. But you showed him! He is cute, though.
Martha

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

LOL..I don't understand why everyone keeps using the word "cute"?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

because 'lovely' doesn't seem to fit?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

how about "yuck", "eek", or something to that effect??

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Hey Dave - I got your check, here is what $100 worth of advertising will get you.

My goodness! He is even cuter than Anita's snake. What a great picture!

See that you folks from Maine & Mass. (RI, VT, & NH too)? We are New England's finest.

(Zone 4a)

Anita that pic is just awesome. I do a lot of pics with kids and not only that I research it a LOT and that is one amazing pic!!!!! That is beautiful.

Okay no more gardening here as I sit - we are expecting 40cm's of snow by the end of the weekend. I am somewhat relieved and sad at the same time. Hey guys it had to end at some point right?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Dawn, it sounds even worse in cm's than it does in in's

Al, I just have one thought when I see your very cute kids... Mrs BigCity must be a very pretty lady

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al ~ He's a cutie!! But something about that little grin says he can be a "cute little devil" too! I love when you can get a glimpse of the imp in the child.

Alfred, ME(Zone 4a)

What do you mean , one of His kids ? That IS AL ! He's a child savant didn't you know ? Had his Master Gardener cert. at age 5.

Yeah, kinda sad this time of yr., got all buttoned up for winter except the mulching. Will wait till the ground freezes good first. Looking forward to making out my seed order list and planning the latest planter for next yr.. Have got to order seeds and start ( indoors ) Impatiens a lot sooner than I did last year, they were all about a month behind. Did 24 hanging baskets. Coffee is good sitting here looking out at the rain, 41 deg and dark, A big G. sheppard laying here next to my chair and visiting DG. kdcon

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

kdcon ~ Got your candle's handy? All set for the storm? Curious as to what Mother Nature will bring Maine this time. Not looking foward to 60 mile an hour winds, there goes my movie watching night!

Alfred, ME(Zone 4a)

Pixie, should be interesting. Windproffed all yesterday also. Installed a 15,000 watt generator this spring. Wife says now the area will never lose power cause I did this. She will not miss storing flushing water in containers. We also will prob lose the Sat. signal but thanks to the gen. can watch a DVD. I travel up north a lot and no power, wind and cold makes it hard when she is alone. She is tough but 3/4 days without heat, water gets old. Just glad it is not a " snow event " as they call it nowdays. To early and ground not froze. Was snowing in Jackman this morning. Good place for it. My brother in law works for CMP and is in charge of all the poles, lines, etc in your area. I will ask him to make sure your line is fixed first if it goes down. Good Luck, kdcon

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks kdcon,
Funny you should mention CMP..my Dad was supervisor of the Waterville area when I was growing up, he's long since passed but think of him everytime we loose power. Good luck to you and yours!!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

kdcon -you might be on to something there, he does look exactly like me at that age. I always tell him - just 10 more before gray hair ;)

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Al, there's a fine line between gray and blonde. with a tow-head like that how could you recognize a gray hair? one 'good' gene that I inherited from Dad was late graying. in my late 50's I have very few gray hairs. people insist that I must color it or I would be gray. what I always say is 'don't you think I would pick something more interesting than this mousy brown if I was going to bother?'

ps we knew you were a cutie

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Well the worst of the storm is supposed to be behind us in CT and it wasn't that bad at all. (Must be the generator kdcon installed) We were supposed to get hit hard where I live but the only thing flying around was leaves.

(Zone 4a)

Well we did get some snow - there is some accumulation out there now. I got some pics of the kids playing in the first snowfall yay!!! However it does seem to be melting but it is suppose to snow for the next few days so we will see.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

No snow here please.

hey Andy I was using your new feature and pulled this out of a thread about kids and marriage

Quoting:
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
