Now its warm & sunny. I'd better get outside.
Fresh Pot of Coffee!
Lots of not-too-strong wind here. But the killing frost a couple days ago got my tomatoes leaving the front yard littlered in red, orange and yellow globes. I picked up as many as I could - but the kitchen counters are covered in them. Today I will be making jars and jars and jars of "green" tomato relish. Thank goodness my jar lifter came in the mail or the ended of my fingers would be toast from picking jars out of boiling water baths. Off to chop . . .

Well - I've had a busy weekend. I had my nieces for the weekend again. We had a nice time hiding from the nasty weather on Saturday. Of course, the excitement grew when I discovered another snake in the basement. My brother came out again and this time we foamed up the area where he came from. We think they are getting in from around the front stoop area. My brother thinks its time for a new stoop since we can't see what's below or behind it, but are pretty sure that is the culprit. Then it was off to do some shopping with my SIL and nieces. I had them pick out a bunch of outfits and try them on. Little do they realize that they are being put away for Holiday wrap and a reappearance on Christmas morning under the tree!!
Nice pic Al - I definitely get the impression that we are looking back into time with that one! Did you have to post that plug for CT??? Now Dave's gonna be struttin' around like no other!
hi, folks! I have houseplants all over the house. filling up my kitchen, taking over the dining room table, stuffed into my sunroom. But today, I went and sat in the sunny windy stadium and watched my baby play in the UMass marching band. I had a great time even though I still have houseplants outdoors and some bulbs to plant. Tomorrow, monday, I am declaring my order from Brent and Becky's among the missing and am going to call them and track it down. It's been two weeks since someone there called to check my address. I need to get those muscari in a pot for the flower show. Where are they? Oh, well, my life is always interesting, always.
Martha
Notice the poll this week? They must have stolen the idea from me. Only people are responding to Dave (THE Dave)
Too funny, BigAl. By the way, how big is Menasha?
Sorry, Anita, I couldn't help laughing at Al's post. That's a great postcard. But I don't think you should have let these guys see the "Raconkamuck" part.
Loretta
Loretta, I guess its obvious why they changed their name. Connecticut was always Connecticut which is Indian for big casinos ....I mean big river.
Little known fact: In Algonquian, Anita means she who keeps extensive notes on her seeds.
Dave(37-52)
Don't apologize Loretta. This was one of the things that kept me in this forum - the entertainment! I'm still wondering who they are warming up for....I would have thought the main act would have shown up by now!
Wow Dave...does (37-42) mean book 37, verse 52?
No, it would mean book 37, verse 42. How are the schools in Ronkokamuck?
Loretta, Menasha is .016 Million. Indians pretty much developed and named all the property around here. I'm sure they made a fortune.
Anita - do you live in the black and white part of town and colorize your photos?

who told!!!
Dave, just checking to see if you were paying attention - no deficit there! :)
I must have missed something at work, I see that wheelbarrow thread is gone.
We had some races..didn't anyone tell you??
Probably illegal on DG.
Do you know that until I was almost 20, I thought the word was wheelbarrel (like it was a 1/2 barrel on wheels)
Then I learned it was wheelbarrow 'cause you could wheel it over to your neighbor's and put their garden tools in it & barrow them for a while. ;)
Gosh you guys disapeared... hi everyone!!!!!
hey Kassia.
Dave, I always thought it was 'barrel' too! Well, I guess fall is definitely here. It's going to be in the 30's and 40's this weekend. I just purchased a case of gourds. I thought it would make a fun project this weekend with my nieces. I just have to drill holes and then I plan on making bird houses with them. There is a rubber stamp show nearby that I want to attend. I use rubber stamps to make my cards for Christmas and birthdays. Even though it will be cold, I still want to do a few clean-up projects in the yard as well.
What is everyone else doing?
Ditto for "wheelbarrel" LOL
I'm planning a quick trip to pick up garden art :) Visited the place 2 weeks ago - didn't have enough time but was so impressed I'm going back! Planning to take pictures, so I'll post some next week.
Debbie
I was hoping I would get a free one for taking the survey too ;), because I need a new one. Dave - a hispanic guy a worked with always called it a burro, so maybe wheelburro? huh?
I've got about a full day of outside work building up here now also, has to be one of the colder fall's I can remember.
It was 27 degree's here at 6:00 am. Weather man said it will be that way for the next 3-4 mornings. Ughh...I don't like it this cold, especially since I still have a ton of yard work to do. The high here will struggle to reach the 40's, I don't mind working in the 50's but the 40's is just a tad bit to cold. I guess I'm off to dig out my long johns and mittens. Have a great day everyone!
Hi,
I am heading to Cape Cod with some friends to lead worship at Osterville Baptist Church at their women's retreat all day saturday,,, sunday, my arm better be all better because I have tons of leaves to rake... no kidding...
( I got a cortizone shot yesterday and my shoulder and arm hurts really bad... I need a total body transplant.... I am falling apart...lol... I told the doctor that I need a tune up... artritis (neck) tendernitis (shoulder) torn cartilage (Left knee) heel spur and calcification on my Right ankle .... yep... I say a transplant is the solution....
say, Kass, you are getting old LOL a full-body transplant sounds good to me :0) maybe we can get a group rate.
I'm still working on bulb-planting. and until I get done with that, I'm not doing anything else outside. I don't care how cold it is this weekend, if it ain't snowin', I'm plantin'.
Al, wheelburro actually did make me LOL! That's perfect.
I still have garden clean-up, putting hoses away, cleaning tools, moving stuff that could freeze from the garage to the basement, mounding roses, spreading the rest of my finished compost. Wow! Listing it made me tired!
This will be my 2nd winter of gardening withdrawal that will be partially relieved by having my DG buddies on this forum. Thanks guys.
It's a good thing Dave [and I'm not a Martha fan]. I think we are peak here with tree color. I imagine a few more days and they will be gone too. This is truely the saddest time of the year. Of course, now my brain really starts kicking in with ideas for the spring!
Kassia, you should get a Body transplant co-op going. We could pick and choose the parts and get a big discount. We would just have to find a good installer. Can see it now... " Hey dear your order arrived, looks like you got 2 shoulders and a knee, good shape too, the skin s not even wrinkled, must have backordered the wrist ". kdcon
My weekend? Well, I've been putting in an awful lot of OT at work lately and this is my first day off in two weeks. So I'm torn between wanting to do a lot of stuff, and wanting to do absolutely nothing. I'll probably find a happy medium. One thing I know is, it's after 10:30 in the morning (in the NE) so if I'm going to do something, I'd better get started. And, if I'm going to do nothing, I'd better get started too. So I guess I'll say so long till later.
Nancy - you can always do nothing when you're older - if that's possible.
Anita - trees are in peak color here too - such shades of bark ;)
Al, dear. Do you mean, if it's possible to do nothing?? Or if it's possible to be older??? Please think it through before you answer that question.
Well, so far I went shopping. I am the Samaritans' Purse Operation Christmas Child contact person at my workplace. So I went and bought too much stuff to fill shoeboxes with. (I love what they do. They distribute presents all over the world, to the worst areas, to the poorest and often war-ravaged countries.) That was a lot of fun, and the sales girl told me I might hold the record for the longest receipt at the Dollar Tree!
Then I came home and made a pot of chili. ( I'm eating it now and it's delicious.) Then I went outside and attempted to dig up my canna lilies. I saw your posts about that on another thread. I left them in dirt last year, in pots, in my garage, and nothing survived. I was given these by a friend this summer and they bloomed. But they probably should have been brought in before all the snow fell. The big snowfall melted away in a few days, but we've had more snow this week. I don't think I can hold much hope for these. Plus, I don't really know what they're supposed to look like.
So I think I have a good amount of the day left to do nothing with. I really surprise myself at how low on the list I've managed to put 'housekeeping'. I never used to be like that.
Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow. Not really, butI do like having lazy days.
Except that tomorrow I have to work again. Oh well, all work and no housekeeping makes Nancy's a dusty house. Maybe I'll do some laundry to make myself feel better.
Nancy, laundry sounds like a reasonable compromise. You get points for that. I planted some bulbs today (lilies and giant allium)...still not done, though. I'm only good in spurts. I get tired so fast and then I'm useless the rest of the day. But it still feels good. Last year I bought bulbs and to keep from wasting them I had to get my son and granddaughters to plant them for me. Oh, and I brought 1 hose in the garage :0)
I thought it through - yes.
Oh, okay. That's what I thought.
let's go to Nancy's for chili
I can handle it, gram! Would'ya stop and pick up some fresh seeded rye at Tops on your way?
sure...be there around 6
Oh... gram? Remember not to look at the dust.
