Ahh to sit outside all day and night and read what a great life!
What's the view from your favorite perch? Show and tell...
Saraskeeper...what is the "feather-duster" looking plant in your pic??? I love the orangy red!!
Also, Sara, If it were me, I would NOT give the little "reader" a new coat of paint. It looks great with the patina of age on it!! But then, that's just my opinion!!
Connie that looks like Monarda (Bee Balm) to me. It is beautiful!
Yes, I agree with Connie, the little guy looks great as he sits... Except his toes are cold with the snow on the ground! That is what happened ~ he froze his toe off! Actually, he probably does need restoration in your winter climate or will deteriorate too quickly.
Yes, porches are great to sit and listen/watch the rain. I bail out of the porch swing when it starts lightning, tho. I don't like being that close to the chains. I get over here on my church pew. I love it anyhow. It was homemade, primitive from an older rural church in our area. In the morning, I call it my hallelujah bench. Hallelujah, I lived to see another day! In the evening it is my Amen pew! Nuff said...
Not a great picture of it, there is a gremlin that lives in my pc and is currently stealing my photos!

Podster...fun reading!! Thanks...I'm off to work!
I would rather stay away from the "Shabby Chique" look. I'm a painter by trade, it wouldn't look right. LOL
He looks even colder in this pic.
Connie, the red flowers are Monarda, 'Bee Balm'. They were the reason I snapped the shot. I failed to use the correct settings so the entire background was in focus.
Your Pony Tail Palm looks right at home, there.
Andy P
Pretty Pony Pod!
Andy, that little guy is adorable, why did you replace his toe, you could have said he lost it wrestling a gator. lol
Fly Girl, No gators up here..... We do have some nasty Snapping turtles, though. LOL
Haighr, That looks mighty tropical for zone 6. Nice
Andy P
That was the idea Andy. I actually overwintered the palms last year, wrapping in insulation and burlap and 2' mulch, but don't plan to bother again. Got the coral in Ocean City and the conch shells from some of our holiday vacations at Christmas. Lobster pot from the Chesapeake Bay and the pineapples and vigna I take inside over winter.
The ponytail is a favorite plant of mine and is a 'famous' pinup here in the Garden Talk forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/629430/ : ))).
haighr ~ What a delightful retreat. On vacation via memories, how nice.
Andy P ~ commercial painter or artiste? From your yard you could also be a landscape artist!
Podster, Interior painting, Faux Finishes.
I have a Pony Tail palm, too.

MyRee...beautiful beds!! (I noticed that you joined DG last year the day after Christmas! What a great way to use the "down day" after all the hullaballou of the holidays!!)
MyRee, such a beautiful setting! So tranquil and and I like the wee people chairs.
Katy, gotta have the wee people chairs, 8 grandkids with one on the way (I found out today).
My mailman told me I needed a swing so I could sit and enjoy my hard work. He was right. I love my swing and the view from it.
Connie, The computer was my Christmas present. .and DG was my first site I joined, I have a friend at work that loves it. She talked about it but I didn't join until I stumbled into it when I was looking for flowers. Love the forum. I do this more than I should and other things that I should be doing are left for another time....
I am still working on the landscaping, this is my first year for a vegie garden. This pic was taken July 8th, It has grown much since then. This is also from my patio. Marie
Hi Myree... Glad you joined us. Thanks for sharing you lovely photos. I agree, DG has hijacked my spare time, it's fun tho... pod
Hi Myree, great gardens. Interesting shed, who did the woodwork it is quite different from what we see around here.
Candee
All of your gardens are so beautiful and peaceful. I think that's what I like best about gardening, at the end of the day, everything is just so peaceful in the garden.
Diann
MyRee...I echo Candee's question about the trim work on your garden shed...it almost looks Dutch...or like something I've seen in Switzerland...??
Myree most wonderful setting, rockwork, and big plantings. You should be very proud of your 3 yrs of labor. We welcome you to the wonderful world of DG.
Thank you to all. I do love it.
I spent all day out in the gardens weeding and irrigating. I love to irrigate, (I didn't when I was growing up on the farm). I am going to have a garden party next Tuesday. They know the yard is not finished, I am still in the building stage and have had rotator cuff surgery on both shoulders this spring. So I don't do a lot of lifting yet. I also had an MRI this week and I have 2 herniated disks in my lower back, one bulges out right and the next one bulges to the left so the pain changes depending on which is worse. I feel better when I keep moving, the garden helps me stretch and I do enjoy the labor.
My DH and I were at a mall and a man had a shed on display, I really liked it and even though we didn't have the money we bought it anyway. The man and his son brought precut lumber and put it together. When I got home from work it was all finished. This is just one shed design he had. The wood really needs some waterproofing, My DH and daughter did it last about 5 years ago. Some day I will get to it.
As you can see, I have a lot of work ahead of me. My job and my lack of strength get in the way though. The lumber pile in the last picture is going to be a walkway and raised gardens. The stone will be a small patio. This is just a work in progress, I doubt I will ever be finished. Just a most gardeners are never finished.
Once in a while I just sit in the swing and enjoy the beauty of what God has given us.
Blessings to all, Garden to your hearts content, Marie
This is a picture of my front yard, Very small but very nice and enjoyable.
I love the way you have shown nature taking over man's improvements with the old wheel barrow covered with vegetation. Good statement. Steve.
I love the simple, honest strength of it. Sort of like
a working man in a flannel shirt. No airs about it.
It is what it is, and that's what it is. And it's a good thing.
Steve amd Mohnot, thanks for the kind words, I just love the simple beauty, nothing fancy about me.
I do love Kalispell, we have been through there a few times on the motorcycle, stayed a few days, Iove the scenery and the gardens there.
And my DH has promised to take me to Texas for 31 years now, he spent 2.5 years in Texas before we were married and he always says we are going to TEXAS.
One day we will make it. He is just retireing and I hope to get some traveling in between my work days. I work 12 hour shifts so I can work the first 3 days of the week and the last 3 days of the next week and have 8 days off in a row.
Better get back to work, Marie
Marie~I grew up in Mantua!! I even lived in Brigham City for a while before we moved to Stansbury Park. It is neat to see someone from my home town on DG. I miss living there if you can beleive it. My mom and dad still live in Mantua. My sister also lives in BC.
I like to go fly fishing up on the Black Smith Fork, so I really miss it there. The closest stream that you can go to in Stansbury Park is the Provo river. There are too many people who fish it. Combat fishing at its finest! LOL
Your gardens are so beautiful. I especially like the pic of your back slate patio. What are those yellow flowers? Yellow is one of my favorite colors! I also like your wheel barrow. You really have an eye for designing beautiful gardens. Keep it up.
Lissy
This is one of my favorite garden spots in my yard. This section is right in front of my porch. I have a north facing house so my impatiens and fox glove do well. The tall red flowers are salvias. My hosta in the back is doing really well since I took all of the awful clay soil out.
Pod, this is a great topic.
Lissy
Lissy...what are the fox glove in the pic? I don't see them.
It is great fun to see the variety of tastes and interests. I appreciate y'all moving over and sharing your favorite spot with us... : ))))) pod
fly ....you were holding out....look at that great porch.....who needs another gate?? (grin)
Thanks sns ;)
Sticks...I like all the white garden accoutriments!!
connie...that a great word for rusted stuff!!!!:)
That white wrought iron is so pretty with the white shutters, where did you find it all?
i am an antique store owner....so it is my main love!!! i have loved rusted stuff b4 rusted stuff was in....so i buy when i can find it...
