Lissy, I love Island Park also. We go up there a couple times a year. I thing I need to start another thread to "expanding our horizons" and put our favorite vacation or close to home spots where we love to go.
Dancy, I think your porch "perch" is just great there. A nice place to relax from the work of the day. I would just like enough land to put a barn on..... I am getting to old for this type of thinking. My sweetheart would like a condo, I want land. So we are staying right where we are for now on my little 1/3 acre. I think it is beautiful though.
Marie
What's the view from your favorite perch? Show and tell...
Lin, I love your porch. That would keep me from getting any work done... Can't you just hear the rain on that roof! Don't we wish... pod
Boerne ~ now that I love. Do you see deer or other wildlife?
yep.. possums, armidillos, tree rats, birds, deer,
I hadn't checked this thread in quite a while, but looked it up again today when Mahnot mentioned it on a different thread. And all I can say is WOW! Such gorgeous gardens and views, absolutely breathtaking!
Steve, my apologies - I realize you asked me about the location of Greenbank. We're on Whidbey Island and you can indeed get there via Hood Canal, then take the Pt. Townsend Ferry. Or you can go north of Seattle to Mukilteo and take a different ferry from there. The third choice is to go waaay north and come across Deception Pass which is about as gorgeous a spot as you can find anywhere (unless you're terribly afraid of heights which someone in DG was and didn't enjoy it at all when she was visiting her son in Oak Harbor in the north end of the island!).
I'll have to watch this thread again - I was missing some lovely views!
We are going to lay the bricks in a 2 one way and 2 another way on a bed of white sand with more sand inbetween and wash it in with the hose. Will line the paths end to end. Lot of work, but will be worth it in the end.
Thank you Marie and Pod. We are loving our 'barn porch'. Pod if we ever get a really good rain you can bet I'll be out there sitting on the porch listening to it.
Lin
You know, we have lots of 'viewers' on this forum. I would like to invite them to join in. You don't need pictures. Please feel welcome to describe the view from your favorite perch! We'll listen and enjoy it too...
podster, this is just the coolest thread....thanks!
I've really enjoyed visiting everyone's favorite perches and hearing all about them. I also love all the "junk". I, too, am a garden junk fanatic.
I am in a funny situation right now, and can definately sympathize with X. I will be leaving my home of 15 years very soon. It's been such hard work transforming my property and home into it's current state and i'm so sad to leave it behind. Bittersweet though, as I am building a new home on much more acreage with amazing views. I'll just have to do it all over again.
Here are some pics of my favorite "perches".....I have a few.
I love to sit on the blue bench and watch my fish swim. It is such a relaxing spot.
And finally, here is a view at my new, soon-to-be home. That is my Dad cutting the tree that marked the very center of the new house. It was taken back in March. We have since built a garage and construction will start on the house any day now. We are doing it all ourselves. I've spent most of the summer moving plants over and putting them in temporary beds, but still have a long way to go. Of course i'm taking most of my plants and ALL of my fish. : )
Thanks again for this thread.....it's great fun to see everyones pictures.
~Dawn
Dawn, why don't you start a thread on the progress of your home? Someone else in DG did that and has had quite a following. Your "old" home is amazing - I can only imagine what the new one will be like!!!! You will have a greenhouse again, won't you? I left a small one behind when we moved four years ago and, sadly, don't have a spot for one at this house. And I sure do miss it!
You know, podster, you are quite right about the lookers.
I look every day - sometimes twice or more. Thank you all
for sharing your beautiful vistas. They are an inspiration and
it is a personal joy to me just to know that these places exist.
One of these days, I hope to post too. Not yet. Dying of shame
is not on my agenda :o)
marie ...great view!!!
Bird of a feather, we all perch together!
Mama Dawn, I love the rocks around your goldfish pond and the blue bench too. I am glad to hear you are relocating plants ~ at least taking cuttings. I walked into your greenhouse and wanted to touch and feel and smell. How neat!
Marie Your front yard just makes us feel welcome. It is beautiful, thank you so much!
Oh, my. Who would part with that? Lucky you.
his garden was great....but he said he was 'tired of it'.....oh brother, he has some other gorgeous statuary in the yard that i tryed to buy...but he said he was not sure about it yet....next week is part 2 of the sale so i am hoping i can find something else....
Got my fingers crossed for you, sticks !!!!
mary...yours is absolutely fabulous!!!! could i have the water??
Sns, I can't believe you got that at a garage sale! Nice!
Mary, what a pretty lake and garden!
Sticks, I thought we had the deal of the century. I just love your armillary! Why can't I find something like that at a yard sale? Hope he lets go of some more items. This was our yard sale find 2 weeks ago. There's a long story that goes with it that my husband loves to tell, but I'll just say the whole thing only cost $3.00! It's a fountain that came with a working pump and my DH just had to paint the wrought iron stand and clean up the terra cotta glazed pieces (they were covered with algae...yuck!) Next to gardening, we love cruising yard sales for more stuff to put in our garden. It' amazing what people will get rid of for next to nothing!
On a clear day, the view of Mt Baker and the Cascades from the deck at the cabin is pretty nice, so is sunrise over the Cascades. It is also enjoyable to look in the distance and see cars on I-5 bucking traffic while sitting on the deck with Bald Eagles, funny crows and on rare occasions, a whale passing by.
Thanx Sticks and Fly Girl! That's the Long Island Sound, which is on the North Shore of Long Island. Take it far enough and you'll get to the Atlantic Ocean. 20 miles across and you're in Connecticut. Fly Girl, I just saw your porch. I want that!

Balvenie - Now that's a view!
Mary, that fountain is beautiful, can't imagine someone selling that, especially for $3.00!
balvenie, how lucky you are. I get to watch funny crows and an occasional roadrunner, but eagles and whales would be fantastic!
I'm not talkin' to either one of you !!!!
Oh, sigh. Woe is me.
mary....that is a SUPER find.....but i wanna know the rest of the story....half the time that is the funnest part....here is my sundials 'rest of the story':
but i love your find!!!
well, the price was suppossed to be 75.....but thank god i didn't know that......anyway, handed them my 20 and asked about the history of the piece( as it is a very old estate that was selling the 'junk' this week and next week will be the 'good' stuff in the house including a 92000 dollar piece of crystal....;)...the man that took my money said he had it marked 75....and i told him it wasn't ......so he asked another person......this time the question was asked .....(you know that piece that the 'dealer' said to mark 75.00 .....did you??) i said, its not a prob.....if you don't want to sell at 20.....fine with me....cause i have allota this kinda stuff.....after discussing it with the other dealer....one said, well this nice lady sez she is willing to pay 20 for it and has a great place for it in her garden....(which is what i said in my excitement).....so they said alrighty.....THEN i was driving my 2 seater convertable and couldn't get the dang thing in my car....{{how embarassing}}.....so i call the hubby and tell him immediately to get over there and grab that thing b4 they change their minds.....OMG...i was sweating bullets.....but he finally got it .....and all was right in the world!!!!!
Balvenie ~ That is a beautiful vista! Marygarden~ your surrounds look positively elegant. Love the view of water in both.... Sns ~ Where, oh where are these garage sales when I need a fix! This was the best I did... a vintage bird bath in excellent shape for a $10 bill. Weighed two and a half tons and took two of us with a little red wagon to move it. The birds are grateful, the cat was free. Or was she?
BTW Convertibles are fun but always garage sale in a truck!
Love all 'your finds'. Beautiful!! Mary your gardens and scenery are to die for. Right now we are in severe drought conditions here. Water would be beautiful to look at right now. ;)
Dancey, we do agree. When I give the dogs fresh water, I use the old water to water plants. Hate to waste a drop. I keep two rain barrels and draw from them for plants when water is available.
Hate to wish for another hurricane but....
pod....how did you attach the top to the bottom of the bird bath?? i have a similar set up and the dang cats in my yard keep jumping on it and it falls off....(the top falls off)....how do you secure it??
by the way pod...i love the bird bath....
i am not driving the truck cause we are 45 miles from the garage sales and it is not cost effective....and it is sort of a curse....when i take the big car i find nothing...when i take the vertible.....well i score!!! then hubbie works in the big town and goes and pics it all up
